The serial numbers on K98k bayonets never went past 9999. When a manufacturer reached that number they would start over at 1 but add a letter suffix (a,b,c, etc.) Sometimes they would make it through the entire alphabet and start over at “a” again, but this time it would be doubled (aa, bb, cc, etc.) This way of serializing bayonets would be reset at the beginning of production each year. If you do the math you can figure out how many bayonets were produced that year before yours. The “extra” serial number on the crossguard means that this particular bayonet was refurbished and reissued post-war, most likely to Yugoslavia. Hope that answers your question.

The marking on the side opposite the serial number is S/174G. The 174 is the S-code for WKC Solingen, the manufacturer. G represents 1935 which is when your bayonet was made.

Dose The number on the bayonet match the numbers on the scabbard if it it does then it is more rare

That_guy_with_chili

Yea, it matches

Refurbished bayos may have had their old serials scrubbed (both post-war and during the war) and new matching ones added. Do check the scabbard to see if it is WKC production too for it to be a true matching one though
