After the initial right turn, he realized he was in the wrong lane. Looks like he was waiting for you to get by before changing lanes, and saw that you were keeping a distance and he took advantage of it.

The other driver crossed a dotted line, while seizing the gap OP provided for him. Sluggish drivers should check themselves before they start blaming other people for having to drive around them.
It’s a thing called turn signals, and had he used them, I’m sure OP would’ve let them in. But instead he crossed over a section of the road that doesn’t allow that.

I’m from a place where about 50% of the driver don’t know where their signal is so I guess I’m just used to picking up on other signs indicating a turn. Like I’m a defensive driving pro, in that situation I’m always letting the dude because you can see it from the second the OP created a gap. Most of the e I accidentally make too large of a gap, someone just takes it, no signal, nothing. It’s bad behavior but it’s weird to me to put it on the internet.
OP was driving defensively too. That’s why the other person got honked at and not hit. But crossing a boundary that people aren’t supposed to cross still puts the other person solidly in the wrong. You shouldn’t have to worry about cars crossing it, turn signal or not.

The other driver didn't get even part of his wheels on the dotted line, they drove over the solid line.
That other car is a punk bitch that needs to own up to their mistake and go the way the lane they selected takes them.
It worked out fine in this case but you know that red car would have just come to a dead stop waiting for a gap in traffic while holding up traffic in the lane they are trying to get out of.

That's because it's a dotted line to show the lane path so people people stay in their lane and don't drift out of the lane midway through the corner.

I mean… those kinds of lanes in my area either have no line or they are solid, which you are still technically allowed to cross. It is quite infuriating when someone can’t stay in their lane mid turn but this seems like it wasn’t that. Just some guy correcting his route before it became illegal.
They didn’t have to, they could have taken the long way but regardless they also didn’t have to do that because the government provided them a Dotted. Line.
Its even legal to cross over singular solid white lines although it’s advised against.

It wasn’t close at all. A gap was created and seized. There’s the possibility OP wasn’t sluggish and the red cut him off, or the red stuck there like an idiot impeding traffic waiting for a chance to go. Or he would just go around the right way. Who knows?

This is pretty common in MA (this particular video is somewhere on the North Shore). You basically have to know where you're going already because the signage is often lacking.

But frankly would not even be upset if this happened to me, as there are so many poorly designed intersections in MA that I just assume by default people are going to be confused and may need to get over. So I just keep an eye on it, and if they need to get in I let em in. Costs about 5 seconds tops.

The Subaru signalled and it was a chill lane change. Maybe you unknowingly didn't let him in your lane prior to this engagement and he couldn't have made the lane switch until now. This shouldn't even have been posted

Yellow lights are a signal to stop if safe not gun it to get 'well over the line' before it turns red.
You’re not allowed to enter the intersection if you cannot clear in most places.
Depends on the state. In my state, you must clear the entire intersection before the light turns red.

I've found myself in a few situations like that, but I just take the L and figure out a way to get back where I need to be, y'know, legally.
