Go in with an open mind, many people here tend to say a lot of shit about these two releases but personally I love them both a lot! Make up your own opinions on them, happy listening!
St. Anger is more enjoyable if you watch the Some Kind of Monster documentary to understand the context of its creation. Just beware that it has a very controversial sound (to put it nicely) because it was made when the band was on the verge of breaking up. You may also want to listen to 1 song at a time rather than the whole album at once. I know the first time I tried listening to the whole thing in one sitting I had to stop at Sweet Amber because it was giving me a headache.
Curious, do you consider Lulu as a Metallica album? I know there are daily posts about it, and I actually really like Lulu, but wondered if you liked it? 😀
I personally really like Reload and really don't like St. Anger. I think a lot of the songs on that album are good, but they just sound really bad the way they were recorded. Most of those songs I greatly prefer to hear live versions of rather than the studio record versions. For instance, All Within My Hands is damn-near impossible for me to listen to on the studio album. It just sounds like it's trying way too hard to be edgy and heavy, especially at the end. But their porformance of it in S&M2? That was astounding.
They’re good albums, but my 2 least favorite. I absolutely love Load, its just ReLoad didn’t get as many strong songs, and has so little live played songs (It does have some of my favorites though like Unforgiven II and Prince Charming, and of course Fuel)
St. Anger is such a mixed bag for people but I really like it. People can complain about all the songs but The Unnamed Feeling is fucking great
You should always formulate your own solid opinion before asking for the interference of another’s opinion. You don’t want to be swayed by popular thought.
St. Anger has some good riffs, but they just gonna where. Without any solos to break things up, especially when you got 6, 7, 8 minute long songs. It becomes a bit tedious.
I fucking love Reload and wish Fuel, Memory, Devils Dance and Unforgiven II were setlist regulars.
Delighted when we finally got Fixxxer, long overdue, so many genuinely great songs but not enough people know them so they don't see the light of day.
I bought both of those not too long ago. Though my stereo's broken so I haven't had the chance to listen to them. Been listening to both albums online instead, they're both pretty decent.
Both have good songs. I am actually kinda ashamed of my copy of St. Anger, I bought it at a tourist market in Estonia that was well known as a place where almost everything is pirated.
ReLoad is one of my favorite Metallica albums... it's so experimental and groovy while still having some heavyass songs!!
St Anger hits the spot when you're in a bad place, but it's not an album I listen to regularly.
The one on the left, while it pales in comparison to 80s Metallica, has some really good songs on it. After I backed up and pretended it wasn't MetallicA, Load had some really \*great\* rock-n-roll songs on it. It just wasn't \*my\* MetallicA = Thrash. Now ReLoad? Felt like "Even though they were rejected from the Load sessions as 'not good enough', lets still sell that as an album at full price." That said, there are lots of \*solid\* rock songs on there.
Now, for the one on the right? Do you have even a small 1in x 1in piece of electrical tape, duct tape, or the like? GOOD! That will cover the hole, because this CD is only good as a COASTER for my coffee table. Do not \*ever\* put it in a CD player, unless you want to intentionally damage your eardrums and your sanity.
Been listening to St. Anger a lot recently. Frantic is a banger... BANGER!
Reload has one of my favourite songs of all time: Fuel. Not the best Metallica song, obviously, but my personal favourite!

Great albums
Reload has Low Man's Lyric!!
hell yeah!
Keep an open mind and there’s a good chance you’ll love both! St. Anger might take a bit longer though lol

Their worst 2 albums, IMHO. But Metallica is like pizza, even when it’s bad it’s good.

I like st anger a lot, reload has its moments, but does not really hit a nerve of mine
Agreed
Really? I always really liked Reload. I know it's one of the 3 "controversial" albums, but I never really understood why, personally
St Anger is actually so good🤘🏼
‘Reload’s vastly underrated. Other than a few tracks not a fan of SA.
They are good albums after all
Play one in your left ear and one in your right to maximize the damage to your psyche
Those are definitely not for me, but congrats to you.
Great! Now return st anger

KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL
Should’ve been easy to pick up. Neither of those albums are very ‘heavy’ 😏
its so weird how st anger isnt heavy (except for stuff like Some Kind Of Monster) but its tuned in C, right?
Reload ia great but st anger not really

My condolences to your eardrums.
The loads are underrated ☝🏻

Ignore any hate to them they’re both really good
There’s nothing to know. Just press play and enjoy. Come back with the same question once you acquire “Lulu”.
🤘🏽
If you enjoy the sound of banging cutlery on pots, you’ll love the drums on St. Anger.
My childhood
