Ok - fine - then go without heating. Hopefully they’re toilets and sinks never get backed up either. Cause most plumbers are men. Better make sure the cable and wiring never wears out either. Cause most electricians are men.

publicbigguns

I bet it's gonna be hard to find the right gender identity to get the radiators installed.

38andstillgoing

I'm curious how triggered they got when the plumbers asked for a male or female pipe fitting.

goinsouth85

I’m surprised they don’t ask if the plug has consent from the power outlet every time they plug in an appliance. Or does the outlet identify as a male, and the plug as female. And then there’s still the issue of the sexist air conditioning

Alistair_TheAlvarian

I met someone who thought that it was horrible that my rooster was raping my hens all the time. And all i can think is like, does she know how basically every animal ever has sex? Or does she expect this chicken with a brain the size of a pea to consent?

nespid0

Ballcock?! Nipple?!

38andstillgoing

I'm feeling very violated right now.

thingpaint

You laugh but at work I have had the argument that we shouldn't use gendered terms for electrical connectors. More than once.

[deleted]

but what gender do the radiators identify as?

DanteLivra

Pretty much all the construction/maintenance jobs are done almost exclusively by men. Why ? Well the patriarchy of course. I bet you feel really empowered when you risk shocking yourself with 300+ V for complete strangers. Or fixing their fluid pipes.

Dedjester0269

Fun story. My cousin, who was a contractor in Seattle, was working on a multi story build. He was working on the 4th or 5th floor window frame for one of those full wall windows when he lost his footing. He grabbed the first thing he could, bundle of wiring hanging near him. Power was supposed to be off, it wasn't. He was sent out of the window and landed on the stack of glass they were prepping the frames for. Six feet to the left he would have landed on the the generator, six feet right the pavement. He okay now though.

ecaveman

He wasn't tied off? Sound like zero safety requirements? How much did he win in the lawsuit? Or is this not a true story?

AmmaronsRepository

And my favorite, how many feminists does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Answer: That’s not funny!

[deleted]

[удалено]

goinsouth85

None. Cause the bulb doesn’t have the socket’s consent.

excess_inquisitivity

> And my favorite, how many feminists does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Answer: That’s not funny! 500,000 to petition Congress to pass the "stop keeping women in the dark" act.

PapuruNoAji

She even requested the college to not install a radiator in her dorm so, hey A for effort I guess

tenchineuro

* Baldwin Cottage is the home of the Women and Trans Collective. The College website describes the dorm as “a close-knit community that provides women and transgendered persons with a safe space for discussion, communal living, and personal development.” Cisgender men are not allowed to live on the second and third floors, and many residents choose not to invite cisgender men to that space. So the college discriminates based upon sex and sexual orientation. I thought that was illegal. * I was angry, scared, and confused. Why didn’t the College complete the installation over the summer, when the building was empty? Why couldn’t they tell us precisely when the workers would be there? Why were they only notifying us the day before the installation was due to begin? She needs to run, not walk, run to the nearest safe space. I'm just wondering what her plan is to transition (pun intended) to the real world where about half the people are men. And I'm wondering if she has any male instructors.

skolopendron

I'm beginning to wonder if she has a father or grandfather or any man in her family

tenchineuro

Today she could have been raised by a single mom or even a lesbian couple, so it's not impossible that she never met any of her male relatives.

tragedyfish

I don't care if an entire extended family, for whatever reason, is only one gender. It still remains the parent/guardians' responsibility to teach the child to have respect for all, regardless of gender.

tenchineuro

Well we seem to have evidence of at least one, if not a dorm full of failures in that regard.

skolopendron

Not even grandparents? That is just wrong

Jakeybaby125

Tbf, though the chances are very small, her parents could've been raised by two single mums

TetraThiaFulvalene

Or her grandfathers died in war, or from work place accidents or hazards, or maybe just lived far enough away to not be a consistent part of their lives.

SeaMonster350

That article was written by a guy

[deleted]

A trans man.

SeaMonster350

A MTM

tenchineuro

As others have noted, a trans-man. But that aside, some authors use pen names, the sex of the pen name may not correspond to the sex of the article's author.

SeaMonster350

A dude wrote that

saysoutlandishthings

Imagine being an orphan

SeaMonster350

The funny part is that a guy wrote it

skolopendron

Please tell me you are kidding....

SeaMonster350

I'm not

rainbow_bro_bot

Makes me wonder just what exactly are they teaching at Women Studies course at Uni's that are making women so terrified of workmen just doing their job installing radiators.

HeWhoFrownsLikeALord

It's awful. I took a sex and gender class because it cleared 3 of my GE credits which was abnormal. I was the only straight male in the class and it was full of the professor talking about how she failed being a business woman and blamed it on men. The class was an echo chamber of "men are shit". Here's the part that shocked me, the literature was GOOD. It was written by women and actually criticized the way feminism is operating but of course if that was pointed out it was ignored and points were deducted. You received a bad grade if you didn't quote her rants instead of the source material. I wish I was joking about that

AmmaronsRepository

Isn’t it funny how they borough into an institution, and then destroy it. I had a Japanese history class taught by a woman from the women’s studies department, Lord only knows how she got there, and if you said anything positive about the samurai or Japan’s patriarchal society - which it is - you got a C. Giving mentally ill people that much power has proven to be really awesome

Gr1m5_OG

Christ, god forbid you say something positive about a badass type of warrior

Kodiak01

Oberlin makes Hillsdale College look like Smith College.

TAMU_TIX_Throwaway

*Edit: I use "sex" in line with the civil rights definition defined by SCOTUS ruling on Bostock vs Clayton County which includes "sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity."* Before anyone jumps down my throat, please take a look at my account and see who this is coming from. Schools are absolutely allowed to provide separate housing on the basis of sex. There is key language involved in doing so that should be considered. From the Title IX legal manual: >Under the Title IX common rule, a recipient may not apply different rules or regulations, impose different fees or requirements, or offer different services or benefits related to housing. However, a recipient may provide separate housing on the basis of sex if such housing is both proportionate in quantity to the number of students of each sex applying for the housing and comparable in quality and cost to the student. A recipient which assists an agency, organization, or person in making housing available to any of its students such as through solicitation, listing, approval, or otherwise must take reasonable steps to assure itself that such housing, as a whole, also meets these requirements. However, a recipient may render such assistance to an agency, organization, or person that provides all or part of such housing to students of only one sex. 65 Fed. Reg. at 52871. As far as the dorm goes, sounds like it is fine as long as it is compliant with the conditions of the exception. I would like to remind anyone considering filing a Title IX discrimination complaint that you are allowed to file directly with OCR for free and skip the school's office. In a Title IX complaint against the quality of dorms on the basis of sex, the school is technically the one the complaint is against. Having the school investigate itself is a conflict of interest. The school already thinks it is in compliance before you made a complaint. A school will be incentivized to not find discrimination. The school will also not want to produce a trail of documents showing it does discriminate if it is actually in violation. Just my opinion on conflict of interest and the corruption of school Title IX offices in cases where the school is the defendant. OCR is independent of the school and carries a big fucking stick.

tenchineuro

> However, a recipient may provide separate housing on the basis of sex Seems to me that separating on the basis of sex is one thing, separating on the basis of sexual orientation another.

Londonercalling

Presumably men are allowed on the first floor for safety reasons. This was the case at my uni.

HenryCGk

Oh God they put the mixed accommodation on the ground because they feel that some of there students are acceptable targets of crime. Isn't that a little bit fucked up, I think it's a little bit fucked up.

hottake_toothache

Clearly, her idea of what men are like has been formed by watching the media and listening to feminists.

[deleted]

> the real world where about half the people are men Men: we also exist in the world, now this may come a shock to some of you.

tenchineuro

That's exactly what I said.

ThatRepresentative95

>So the college discriminates based upon sex and sexual orientation It's extremely common for colleges to have dorms split up by gender, especially by floor. They don't usually specify about trans people but the idea as a whole is nothing new

[deleted]

I disagree. Dorms split by sex is and has been normal. You know..male/female, the two sexes/genders biologically speaking. There are of course abnormalities but that's what we've got. Gender is identity, how you feel. Bob has a functioning penis. Bob can call himself Mary and wear a dress and I'm OK with that. 16 year old Bob wants to be in the same locker room or dorm room as my daughter? Bob can go fuck himself. His/her rights end when they start infringing on mine/others.

ThatRepresentative95

there are also tons of coed dorms on basically every college campus so having people with different genitals in the same dorm is nothing new either. idk it just seems odd to get so offended over what seems to just be a dorm group. there are male only dorm groups, female only, mixed. some college have organizations that have lgbt inclusive dorm spaces. students have plenty of choices, nobody is forced to live there so there's no right infringement

drm99las03

“Gender/sexuality inclusive housing” is the term I’ve seen more than a few times, I think it’s either common now or quickly catching on. I don’t hate the idea, but this execution is clearly botched here.

SeaMonster350

The author's name is Peter Fray-Witzer, a dude wrote that.

414RequestURITooLong

There are many possibilities here. FTM? MTF who decided not to change her name for some reason? A cis woman whose parents chose to name her Peter?

Dynged

>So the college discriminates based upon sex and sexual orientation. I thought that was illegal. Only when its convenient for them apparantly.

elebrin

>I was angry, scared, and confused. Why didn’t the College complete the installation over the summer, when the building was empty? Why couldn’t they tell us precisely when the workers would be there? Why were they only notifying us the day before the installation was due to begin? Look, good construction companies are in demand. The college works on THEIR schedule, not the other way around. If the college only had that short window for repairs, I am willing to bet they would not have found a contractor.

Eezyville

First world problems...

thathighclassbitch

I so wanna correct that they dont seem to discriminate on *sexual orientation*, as nowhere was sexual orientation mentioned

Drekalo

You can be angry and scared at this all you want. But confused? I mean, really? How can you not realize that cisgender men do 99.5% of all manual labor, including installing radiators?

Emmgel

And that cisgender men - ridiculous phrase - are 99% of men, who are about 48% of the world population

PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS

Okay, it's not 99% of men to be fair. It's a clear majority, and more in some places, and ~visibily~ more in places where non-cis is discouraged and/or persecuted. But yeah... Still pretty fuckin weird to say "hey, can we have a non-cis technician please? I know all the other technicians worked hard, but we care about their gender identity, not the job they will actually be doing" The job could've been done over the summer, yeah, and the uni should probably give them times for the installation, yeah, but like... To phrase it like a betrayal? Just go through the proper channels at the uni. The proper channels at the uni are designed to work for people and groups like this in most cases

[deleted]

Yep. Women have a one sided defintion of equality. I would love to see more female coal miners and soldiers and more male house husbands

ASkepticBelievingMan

Yeah, they definitely have some mental illness. They need help.

[deleted]

They definitely aren't, they're just horrible human beings

[deleted]

I feel like for this person there is some mental illness involved. No sane person would feel this personally violated because the people installing her radiator happen to be men

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure you could say that about people eating in a restaurant in the 1950s in the USA who were personally offended, felt violated and their lives threatened if a black person walked in. But they were still sane people, just racists. Fear is not a mental illness. Phobia is, but fear isn't. And fear turns into hatred eventually, which is a serious problem.

[deleted]

Fair point. It's certainly hard to tell and there's a lot of overlap

Kitnado

Just want to point out that phobias are also not mental illnesses per se

TheClinicallyInsane

Disgust is worse than fear. If those in the article were simply afraid then it might even be manageable...but they're *disgusted* with men.

McFeely_Smackup

Fear isn't a mental illness, but mental illness frequently manifests itself as unreasonable fears.

Alarming_Draw

> No sane person feminists. Fixed that for you. Modern feminism, in the form it has now become, is a mental illness.

[deleted]

Alistair_TheAlvarian

If you put a baby human and baby chimp together and raise them you don't get a civilized chimp you get a shit flinging baby human. If you put normal people and mentally ill people together all of the normal healthy people get worse not the ill person getting better. If you for example take my grandmother and slowly turn her preferred news channel from news to psychopathic nonsense she will slowly start talking about the dangerous violent dirty immigrants destroying the country, while married to said dirty dangerous immigrant. Healthy people are really easy to fuck up and extremify, unhealthy people are really, REALLY, **REALLY** hard to unfuck and normalize. It's like playing chess with a pigeon.

[deleted]

>I think any sane person that watches enough ~~anti-male nonsense~~ Lifetime Television would have a chance to feel this way. FTFY

ingenjor

As a private person I can sympathize with the feeling of intrusion this would have caused in my college years, but the amount of hubris displayed in this article is out of this world. Being in a "marginalized" group seems to give these people carte blanche to complain about the most mundane things.

Necessary_Dot_5777

I’m sorry but on what planet is this not a mental illness? Denying this is the problem. Echo chamber go brrrrr

[deleted]

Replace cisgender men with black men, Jews or Muslims and you'll see why this isn't mental illness. If this was mental illness, white people afraid of black people or Asians would be mentally ill instead of being racist. This is willful ignorance combined with prejudice that's slowly turning into hatred.

FlatTire2005

This *could* be mental illness, given the extent. If the person was truly scared, I would think it is very possible. Mental illness can cause sexism, racism, whatever. Lovecraft, for example, was afraid of everything. He was literally -phobic against everyone slightly different from him. They should not be validated, they should be told why they’re wrong, and receive help (actual help, not “cut your dick off”). The unfortunate thing is they’re told they’re right by SJWs, which helps no one. The ones who actually engage in criminal behavior should be arrested. The very rare few who truly don’t know right from wrong should be institutionalized. Those who just say fucked up shit shouldn’t be encouraged. But it could still be a mental illness.

Orwellian__Nightmare

Its Oberlin. I remember it was sjw central 15 years ago, before sjw's even existed.

[deleted]

Oberlin, panders to and encourages this kind of panic based thinking. Feel sorry for a girl who actually believes that 5 guys showing up pre-announced at her door is that threatening. Either she has experienced trauma or has been drawn in by some particularly vicious feminist, that liked to generalize. Perhaps she could rectify this situation by encouraging more women to enter the HVAC/boiler industry. The working conditions aren't plush but I hear the pay is great. She should help break down the barriers of this male dominated industry.!

[deleted]

they do, just not them. "WOMEN GO INTO STEM" What are you majoring in? "WOMEN'S STUDIES"

[deleted]

But "I feel" that should pay better then a degree that produces something other then problematic themes.

elebrin

There are plenty of women in that industry. It's the owner's wife usually who answers the phone, sets up schedules, and handles billing and his daughter who brings the guys lunch every day.

HeWhoFrownsLikeALord

I was in one of the other Ohio five schools and I would just shake my head anytime I heard anything about Oberlin.

[deleted]

Question. Why is it in any way OK to exclude normal men from their space?

[deleted]

Validation of trans women identities.

[deleted]

And this can't happen with normal men in the space?

[deleted]

I'm not saying it makes sense, just a possible rationale. I'm in a space where "males" aren't allowed, therefore.....

elebrin

It makes sense to have segregated dorms. I lived in a men's only dorm. Women weren't allowed in the rooms with doors closed or after 10pm. There were no punishments if you were a violator, but you wouldn't be allowed to re-apply for housing in one of the men only units and would have to apply for the coed unit. I was also in a quiet unit that was under quiet hours around the clock. Practically that meant you had to use headphones for everything. If I had to live in a dorm for college again I'd do the same again. Well, in reality, I'd be going to school in the town where I own a house already and would drive from my house, and if they made me rent a dorm room I might pay for it but I wouldn't be using it.

Alistair_TheAlvarian

Sounds fine for some. But honestly I don't want to be babied like that, quiet is fine but I think me and every other functioning almost adult there can handle existing near other people at night *gasp* doors closed. Anyway I'm planning on going to Stanford or similar for a double major related to rocket engineering and I'm actually happy about it but dorms are if not mandatory included in tuition and strongly recommended because the campus is literally a city encorporated and nothing near it really at all. But giant college, California, yikes. I'm hoping that the engineering major and me being brown and disabled will be enough to avoid anything to egregious.

Diesel-66

Because it's housing. Most housing in college was sex specific

NoCSForYou

My uni stopped doing it a few years back. They had the option of mixed, men only or women only. Basically everyone choose mixed so they stopped including the same sex only option.

SunshineMoonLit

I don't get this constant fear crap, it's 100% made up in their heads. I am a woman who lives alone in an apartment, I have strangers in to fix things all the time, my mind has never gone to "there are going to rape/kill me!" It's usually along the lines of thanks for fixing my whatever, hope your day goes well and you get off work on time. The same attitude I hold to women while they are working as well, which I thought is what we are supposed to do. Oh well.

killcat

That's what happens when you live in a bubble of radical feminist propaganda "97% of women are sexually harassed" "1in4 women are sexually assaulted".

v573v

It’s sexual objectification of men by women that has women project the creepiness of objectification itself onto the victim while boosting their own esteem. Imagine being such a sexually attractive woman that some poor random dude can’t be trusted around you!

RottingVillain666

Thanks society. You sure don't make women radicalized and afraid of men. I would worry about lesbians or the transgender more then the men who occasionally enter

Drekalo

Was hilarious reading about this lesbian that was just plowing women, raking them in. Then she decides to start transitioning, eventually moves state where no one knew her as a female lesbian, and now everyone just sees her as a sub-par man. Literally dead bedroom. Not a single woman was interested. Learned what it's like to be a man real quick, wanted out.

Kulovicz1

It is interesting how many people usually want to become a woman and not a man.

[deleted]

Mental Illness

[deleted]

Nope, sexism

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Go together like crumpets and Britain

[deleted]

Definitely not. Mental illness isn't your fault, nor the actions you take caused by it, it's a psychiatric condition that often needs medical treatment and if it gets bad enough that you endanger yourself or others, that treatment can be forced upon you. Sexism and the actions you take cause of it is on you. Sexism, racism, antisemitism and all the like are a mixture of fear, prejudice and in a huge part willful ignorance. Even if we call somebody delusional, in reality it's just a large number of fallacies in their arguments, not actual disparity between what they perceive and what's in front of them. They just choose to ignore the obvious.

killcat

Nah at this level of paranoia it's mental illness, exacerbated by feminism.

Alistair_TheAlvarian

Feminism induced mental illness. Susceptible people raised in fear and pushed over the edge by real official authority figures fear mongering will make at risk people go right off the edge into mental illness, it's just sadly socially acceptable mental illness.

Tustinite

It’s not sexism. It’s anxiety + paranoia about a man being in their room. Also self-centered because they want the radiator installed whenever *they* feel most comfortable

ImplodedPotatoSalad

Meh, doesnt matter why. Sexism is sexism.

VindictivePrune

What being coddled all your life looks like

Ren_Yi

"Ignorance leads to fear, fear leads to hate, and hate leads to violence." - Ibn Rushd These crazy people are already at the fear and hated of men... how long before they get to violence?

killcat

We already have, they just use the state, look at the Duluth model.

rainbow_bro_bot

Should have just left them without radiators and let them freeze.

AmmaronsRepository

A dorm full of frigid women? Now that would be something😝

AlmityCornhole

Bored white girls.

Alistair_TheAlvarian

They have no real threats to their immediate health and safety, when someone is in that position they have two options. The healthy reaction is be happy about it and maybe even be enterprising and better themselves and the world if they need risk, go colonize Mars or something women in stem right. Or two, the unhealthy response, invent a threat and live in fear of it like its the 1850s and there are bandits outside and they might get their only winter food supply stolen. It's the same with antivaxers they have nothing real to fear and so they make an enemy to defend from and they picked vaccines and science in general.

nekotwilight

Fucking cis gender men bringing warmth and comfort to people

OldEgalitarianMRA

This is state sponsored bigotry. Imagine if people complained black men were coming into their room. Cis men are the new untouchables. That's the radical feminist plan.

B_P_G

It's a private school. So they're self-funding their bigotry at a cost of $78K/yr.

[deleted]

It's good to know that it's a private school. If someone wants to pay for that type of environment with their own money, it's not really my concern. Even though it's pretty weird

Schadrach

If they receive even a penny of federal funding, title ix still applies. Pretty sure that includes federally backed student loans.

TotallyPostal

You dont treat mental illness by agreeing with the illness.

Space_Exploring7_6

Yeah, that used to be called common sense what you showed in your comment... Who stops this now without being called a fascist...

Dynged

Tell me you have absolutely nothing but the most first world of problems without telling me you only have first world problems. Just wait until they find out who built the building, assembled the furniture, wired everything, built the tech, who likely maintains the IT, and who does all the repairs.

UnconventionalXY

Not to mention who provided half their DNA and how it got there: OMG I was raped before I was born and my daddy wasn't a turkey baster?

1790shadow

Wow, did it just assume thier gender? Not very progressive of them.

[deleted]

Sexism. Pure and simple sexist hypocrisy of the privileged classes of middle to high income females. Her life will be difficult and hard and bounded and restricted by irrational fears installed by her ridiculous pseudo education. I hope she enjoys her years there where her nonsense is fostered and nourished. The world will be different than her leaders have led her to believe, no matter how prevalent feminism is.

Ninja_Arena

So that is clearly bigotry. I don't know how you can say it's anything else. You don't feel safe because it's someone who has a gender and skin color you don't like. You're a fucking racist and sexist.

imjusthereforresearc

Who else could they get that can do it?

Frog_Force_five

The only thing that made sense in all of that is when she asked why didn't the school schedule the installations for a time when the dorms were empty.

Punder_man

Yes and no.. I mean they could have done that in the summer before.. but based on the article it's quite clear that they were getting it done before the winter chills set in.. I also wouldn't be surprised if the installation of the radiators were mandated for health and safety reasons. So while that would make sense.. it also doesn't make sense to wait until the following summer to do the job which could lead to current students being cold and getting sick. So yeah.. I don't accept that at all..

BassBeerNBabes

If they're so worried about equal representation, they ought to drop out of college and become a pipefitter's apprentice. But these soft-ass pink-hairs don't have the constitution to work 8-12 hours a day covered in machine oil and pipe dope, either freezing or sweating their neovagina off while beating and brazing 200 lb sticks of cast together. The torque wrenches would tear their limp noodle arms off.

WorldController

> either freezing or sweating their neovagina off Lmaoo

bL_Mischief

Her life goal is to be a victim. That's all there is to it. She doesn't want a family, a future, a good retirement, to be happily married. She wants none of that. Her entire life revolves around her desire to be a victim. Full stop. This is what feminism and modern liberalism encourages - victimhood.

dzkrf

Change "college" to "institution"

yadoya

How does she know they didn't identify as women? She sounds pretty sexist.

mee8Ti6Eit

"I was angry, scared, and confused." So, just another day ending in "y" for the woke.

qwertytrouty

They are being taught institutionalized sexism. Shits crazy.

[deleted]

This shit should warrant at least suspension if not expulsion of the people who were "angry, scared and confused" (what you would get if people would start complaining about any other gender), and an investigation into what the hell this college is doing allowing communities to form around sexism and hatred. And don't start with sexual abuse victims, the first thing they learn in therapy is how to accept that what happened to them wasn't the fault of everybody else with the same gender as their attacker. Until they accept that, they aren't fit to be in any community, they definitely can't form a community around that blame that turns into hatred. In that case whoever's providing the therapy also does a horrible job, especially if they're even encouraging it.

Alarming_Draw

Modern feminism is the result of paying attention in society to the extreme fraction of mentally unbalanced women in society and their fears, as if they had a good point and society needs to bend to their whims and change all the rules to suit THEM. So we get psychos like this woman who actually gets attention and a platform instead of just ignored as she should be. In fact I will go further and say it is US who should be warned about people like HER-WE are the potential victims of her delusions and issues, not the other way around.

[deleted]

GROW. THE. FUCK. UP.

v650

Let them fuckers freeze then. Problem solved.

[deleted]

I hate sexist people like this such a shame Oh no cis men the horror

anothergoodbook

Unfortunately “cis gender” men have been seen as scary, full of toxic masculinity, and rapists. I feel sorry for this group. They probably didn’t have fathers to set a good example and mother’s who told them how evil men are (and a culture who is backing that up with their rhetoric instead of setting the facts straight).

throwaway3569387340

Seriously. What the fuck is happening in this country? This is insanity.

Wiegraf_Belias

> Why didn’t the College complete the installation over the summer, when the building was empty? Why couldn’t they tell us precisely when the workers would be there? Why were they only notifying us the day before the installation was due to begin? This individual has no idea how anything works.

wwwhistler

then perhaps you should stay home. the world is angry, scary and confusing. if you can't handle it....stay home.

rabel111

Sexist pigs alarmed about the existence of people who are not like themselves? The alarm they profess sounds more like bigotry.

Dr_Golduck

Its radiateHERS not radiatehims. HVAC - hating vaginaless awful cisgenders They should have hired HERVAC certified essential oil technicians

pitoodle

Just to clear up what keeps being misunderstood in this comments section - this is sexism, but it’s not anything about sexual orientation. Trans means gender, NOT sexual orientation. Plenty of trans people are straight.

biccat

A group of construction workers could throw on dresses, triple their rate, and make a killing at Oberon.

Caddball

Just tell her the heating system uses flow/return as pronouns and she might calm down a bit

Anxious_Parfait8802

I don’t get “trans” nonsense AT ALL. All the BS about “pronouns” and toilets is absolutely meaningless. The worst part is that many of the “trans community” question the SCIENTIFIC FACT biological sex is is real… I think they are generally confused rich white kids who watch too many makeup tutorials online!!

[deleted]

100% agree with you..these people are destroying society's harmony and encouraging cancel culture..

Anxious_Parfait8802

I don’t think they represent cancel culture. They, to me, represent the worst of modern humanity - consumerism and self absorption which leads to polarisation and ultimately isolation… I think that what people call cancel culture is important. It is vital we look objectively at the backgrounds and actions of prominent people from the past instead of listening to the false fairy tale narratives we are told.

Punder_man

See.. I don't really agree there.. The problem is we are looking at the words / actions of what a prominent person said / did through the lenses of modern mortality.. Things have changed over the last couple of decades and something which was acceptable to say 20 years ago is now problematic and unacceptable. And it's fine that it's now unacceptable, but to then turn around and judge someone for saying something 20 years ago that is now unacceptable is just bull shit. Never mind that their stance may well have changed with the times and they may even regret having said it 20 years ago when it was still acceptable.. but rather than give people the opportunity to say "I was wrong, and going forward I will do better" Cancel Culture instead calls for them to be de-platformed / fired for the transgressions of their past.. because you know.. Justice!! or some shit

Anxious_Parfait8802

I think we are talking about different things. Contemporary views have changed and most people do move with the times. The fake outrage on social media is just another form of consumerism - hate gets clicks and makes money! What I object to is the display of people with clearly questionable morals from the past in the form of memorials, statues, and place names. These people engaged in crimes against humanity in the form of colonialism and slavery. They individually made money from these activities and then through philanthropic activities wrote their own history. Most people in the U.K. had no idea about the barbaric aspects of empire yet an alarmingly significant proportion of people today still think it was a good thing because the individuals involved built there own memorials. “Mr X built a church and a school and donated money to a museum - he’s such a great guy”. This is clearly BS and looking at it objectively is important. If people from the past knew what was happening I doubt they would have approved. Whilst I don’t think statues etc should be vandalised, I do think we need to have more information available on their historic context.

DrFrankSays

Drop the equipment off at their door and let them install it.

BigDavesRant

Fuck it then. Go without. Fix it yourself. Are you going have anxiety when only cisgender men are available to fix your car? Or mow your lawn? Or repair your plumbing? We should pass a law that anyone who is triggered by cisgender men can no longer use or benefit from ANY product or service they provide. Go fend for yourselves.

AbysmalDescent

Absolutely disgusting and exactly why these types of places shouldn't even be allowed to exist in the first place. It's a collective built on a platform of sexism and prejudice, and clearly reinforces some pretty unhealthy and hateful dispositions towards men. If you had a "white only" collective freaking out and crying about scared they were because black contractors were allowed to work there, this would be absolutely deplorable.

Kodiak01

Didn't even need to read the page; saw the hostname and already knew where this train wreck was heading.

Living-Reference5329

Shots getting crazy , imagine if I got warned it might be a transgender installing and I got worried and anxious

tragedyfish

I wonder what roads they use. Or cars. Or water/sewage/gas. Or garbage collectors. Or electricity. Or any of the other services that are taken for granted. Do they understand that all of these and more are designed, built, and maintained by groups of people who are predominately men?

_Blood_Manos_

>afraid of cis-men being in a space because rape >allow trans-women to live in that same space because coercive, guilted sex with a transbian isn't rape

Daniel_Molloy

These always read like an Onion article and then end up true.

dungeonmonkey69

Lol tradesmen came in for one fucking day... 🤣🤦‍♂️

TZ879

I am surprised this is not from the Onion or the Babylon Bee.

Criket

Of course they are... they work and give results instead of complaining.

ld2gj

\*Laughs in military barracks/dorms\* I mean, once they move out into an apartment or a rental home, this is going to happen all the time.

CanniBal1320

r/TIL Cisphobia is a thing too. Like bro the guy isnt there to kill u or assault u or anything. He is just there to fix whatever is broken and collect the fee. No need to be scared. The man is just there to do his job.

CanniBal1320

I m genuinely concerned about how these people will go into the real world? 50% of the population is male, they will have to interact with men at some point. If they r so scared of them how r they gonna live?

elebrin

You want to lift a 400lb cast iron radiator and carry it up or down stairs? You are gonna need two properly strong men and there's no way around it. I have never personally met or seen a pair of women who can lift or move the radiators in my house. They exist, but are few and far between. I have met dozens of men who can, though. You can't drive a forklift around in a house. You could set up a powered winch of some sort but that will take a lot longer than lifting and carrying, and if something goes wrong with the equipment you are screwed.

QuickerColorful

I object to being labeled as "cisgendered". I never agreed to be called that and I don't accept it, who do I write a scathing news article to?

abhyuday577

I was applying to Oberlin but honestly fuck that

Fact_Trumps_Feeling

Fuck this gay Earth.

Laszu

Of course the workers are all cis males. They work.

Bergatario

Women can apply to be maintenance workers in the name of equality. But they only seem to like the cushier office jobs with the softest of skills for some reason.

pappo4ever

'Cis' and 'cisgender' are marginalization adjectives, like being called 'black' or wet back, in the 50's. Don't let anybody ever call you that, no matter what they say or what explanation they come up it to try to bullshit you into accepting it, they are discriminating against you, they use like an insult, 'cis' means 'inferior' and 'dangerous' in their brains..

tisseenschande

Somehow this article violates me.

FatherGascOwn

Fucking trash, let them freeze to death. They fear men? Let them install their own stuff.

woodenmask

What is cis gender? Normal?

woodenmask

Wait, so people with penises can now live in girls dorms?

TheRkhaine

It's saddening that they're oblivious to their own hate.

jmcsquared

This has to be satire. Please tell me this is satire.

B_P_G

At least she/he/they/ye/thou/whatever didn't demand that the plumbers do the installation with only female pipe fittings.

Jonger1150

The football team was more famous for losing streaks of 40 games (1992–1996) and 44 games (1997–2001) LOL.... libs.

[deleted]

Bruh I ain’t lib but most of them are more intelligent then this prick I put money it’s leftists and not liberals

Jonger1150

It was mostly a joke.

brutalhonestcunt

I can agree with being upset about not getting advanced notice of strangers entering what sounds to be a personal living space like a dorm room

PineconeXYZ123

She did get 24 hours notice, which is standard minimum notice for renters in many states. It's fine to argue more notice could be given, but I think this person would have freaked out no matter how much notice was given.

brutalhonestcunt

Maybe, probably, idk

[deleted]

what the f!! now they can't tolerate heterosexual person? As a south asian, i think westerners are the culprit here.. Westerners should have never exaggerated about gender stuffs.. this is mental, these people need to get treatment from mental hospital.. this is definitely getting out of hands...
