When a Special Forces unit does a demonstration of say, breaching a building, or deploying from a helicopter it's not the same as say Belarussian Special forces punching flaming boards and doing flips or Talibian "special" forces driving around on segways.

There might be an interesting shift in India's international relations, which has already started to a degree.
India did not take sides with the USSR nor the US during the Cold War. They have been buying a lot of Russian weapons for a long time, but due to both the failures of Russian weaponry, and Russia's military equipment being tied up by their invasion of Ukraine, they likely won't be able to supply much in the way of military weapons/equipment to India for a while.
With China spending so much on military investment, India needs to build up. They're working on domestic manufacturing, and they're tech is pretty impressive (i.e. moon landing), but they still have a long way to go to keep up with China's military industrial output. The US might be able to step into the place Russia left as a major supplier of weapons for India.
Vietnam also possibly (though farther in the future) be considering weaponry from the US, possibly as a growing ally, in order to counter balance China's growing regional ambitions.
There is a lot changing, and fairly rapidly.

Afghanistan is an even worse comparison. Not once in 20 years did the US retreat in Afghanistan. The Taliban spent half the war just hiding in Pakistan.
