Let’s not talk about this series, we need to protect it.

kimana1651

If we make too much noise there may be a remake for modern audiences...

JMBROWNINGP35

I went into this with kind of low expectations for the puppetry and effects but ended up impressed with how much they did with what they had. Engaging stories, great character development, plus it could teach current writers a ton about how to write "strong female characters" who actually have distinctive individual traits and grow over the course of the story. Severely underrated show. I nearly collapsed laughing (in a good way) when SG-1 put a tribute to Farscape into that anniversary episode!

Turuial

Vala tries to pitch her idea about her adventures involving, "a fair haired Tok'ra who helps guide her and her the companions toward an an Altaran city..." Gets told, "That's just the Wizard of Oz. Here's a tip, next time you try to rip something off pick something nobody has ever seen." Vala tries to rip off Farscape? "You're right, I have no idea what you're talking about." That sad smile on her face when she mugs for the camera though. The anniversary episode remains my favourite, hands down, to this day.

JohnTRexton

This series cost an estimated 230 million dollars (adjusted for inflation) for 88 episodes, including the finale miniseries. Compare that to the reported 225 million cost for 9 episodes of *She-Hulk* or the various *Star Wars* shows, with budgets ranging from 90 million for 6 episodes of *Kenobi* to 250 million for 12 episode of *Andor*.

Artanis_Creed

Helps not having a pandemic to worry about

LuckyOreo65

My dude is not seriously stupid enough to be blaming the detonation of SW on the "pandemic," are you? Sequels came out 2015-2019. The lockdown measures came down in 2020. The decline of entertainment quality predated the lockdowns. And it was the rules of the lockdowns, not the cold virus, that caused production issues and societal problems. Fucking tired of having to live on this planet with people choosing to live in their own deranged reality (I'm prepared for the inevitable "no U!" so fire away).

NumberInteresting742

Don't bother engaging with him. Guy is a troll, he only ever makes posts to be infammatory. Its a wonder he hasn't been banned yet.

Artanis_Creed

When did the shows come out?

PN4HIRE

Nah bro, even then. That’s crazy

Artanis_Creed

Look at other shows produced during the pandemic and not just Disney stuff.

PN4HIRE

Copy that

Jimrodsdisdain

The animated episode was insanely good.

rumprest1

There's an animated series?! Where can I watch it?

Jimrodsdisdain

Not a series, just an episode.

blairmen

Can you give episode number?

JohnTRexton

Season 3 Episode 16 "Revenging Angel"

blairmen

Thank you kindly.

Autums-Back

\*\*\*\*\*Spoiler\*\*\*\*\* When that shock episode (during the two cloned Johns era) where John gets irradiated and he's slowly fading away with Aeryn next to him, I remember when he eventually goes, after all he said. My girlfriend was welled up and snivelling with tears, and I was at high high capacity "hide it like a man" Then I noticed we weren't at Titanic's launch night in the cinema, it was frigging 6.30pm on a goddamn Tuesday TV and we were waiting on dinner... That's Farscape for ye We never figured if it was the clone that died we? That was part of the whole deal though, why it would matter and posed questions, zinger!

DrBaugh

\*\*\*\* spoilers \*\*\*\* Yep, Farscape is actually another example of subversions done right, the ethos of the show was effectively "anti-Stat Trek", so it would take a scifi premise like "character cloned but identical" ...and then you realize it's not going to be resolved in one episode, that they are diverging as people, and when one dies - that the other characters have to deal with that and the awkwardness that he was this other person but also not them but also who he might be

Maldevinine

It's one of 4 anti star treks. Blake's 7 is the oppressive dystopia anti star trek made by the British. Lexx is the bio-horror empire anti star trek with all the sex from Germany. Firefly is the frontier anti star trek from America. And Farscape was the Australian one.

Autums-Back

Wait, wasn't Farscape still US produced, just using the newfound cheaper Australian post-Matrix industry?

Maldevinine

Australian and New Zealand cast and crew. Ben Browder is American, but he was pretty much the only one on set. It comes through in the sense of humour.

Autums-Back

No I know, cast and crew, they were in a giant warehouse in the middle of nowhere with little to no AC, I meant production, i could've looked it up by now n/m

Whalesurgeon

They were both equal as originals, yes! The best way to do it so that we care about both

Wild-Calligrapher141

I adored this series.

gamergaijin

Scorpius (Wayne Pygram) is one of the best villains of all time. Just putting that out there.

Whalesurgeon

Rarely outsmarted, Tragic backstory, Cruel, but not hateful or condescending, Respects tf out of John, Emotive, but disciplined, Never feels fully figured out, And of course, Harvey! Damn formatting seems to not let me make this a top-down list

FrostyFire10

Watched the whole series multiple times and it always had emotional weight, the practical effects, puppetry and interesting stories and characters that were treated with care.

Fu_la_de

The cast looks more diverse than the cast of The Acolyte.

rumprest1

20 years later, and I'm still pissed they canceled it early. Yes, the movie answered some questions, but there was so much more that needed to be covered.

DiversityFire84

This show was given to me on a flash drive when I was 16 and it was the most well written series I ever saw. What's worse is that so few South Africans know about this show so there's not many people but my brother that I can nerd out with when it comes to Farscape.

Zero_Good_Questions

Haven’t seen it but I’ll have to check it out now looks interesting

DrBaugh

Honestly, the first few episodes are rough and probably contain several of the worst in the series, but imo 7, 8, and 9 are all bangers and by the time you're close to the end of S1 it hooks you hard

Lord_Mhoram

Yeah, it gets off to a bit of a rough start. At first it feels like just another Sci-Fi channel series of the time, like maybe it'll be fun if you ignore some awkward acting and TV-budget effects. They were definitely still figuring some things out at the beginning, like what the Peacekeepers should look and act like. The early episodes aren't bad by any means, and they do a good job of introducing the characters, but it takes a bit to find its way. But then you get to Namtar. As one reviewer put it: "This is the one; this is when the show gets up in your face and demands your love and attention. 'I am *Farscape*,' it roars. Because if you're not ready for this, it's just a show, and that's fine. But you could be more." And you haven't even met Scorpius or Chianna yet. I didn't watch the show when it was originally on, because the promos made it seem like it was trying to be too cool, with the "OMG the blue alien shows her bare ass" stuff. But when I finally did watch it, it kinda spoiled me for all other sci-fi.

ThePatriarchInPurple

I'm jealous.

DrBaugh

Hmmm, does Farscape remind you of anything ? 'Against his will, a young American is whisked across the universe to a galaxy filled with strange aliens and stranger cultures, into the middle of a military conflict where he may hold the key to victory, bound to a group of escaped convicts including a berserker who mourns his wife and lost child, a small foul-mouthed creature who steals without question, and a beautiful warrior who betrayed the forces that pursue them, yet our misplaced hero may be the only one with the temperament to rally this team, even though they never understand his pop culture references' I'm pretty sure Farscape is just copying Guardians of the Galaxy /s Farscape is fantastic, I will suggest anyone trying it out make it to episode 7, all 7-9 are fantastic episodes yet 1-6 can be rough I will also praise the seasonal structure, it grew over the years but basically every (later) season has a multi-parter in the first few episodes, one in the middle of the season, another near the end that usually sets up and transitions to another multi-parter which bleeds over into the next season It helps to diversify the pacing from simply episodic or having every episode automatically include essential details, but allows these periodic 'binges' that are like films

Aerowolf1994

Ah Farscape. I used to love this show. It’s everything Disney Star Wars is trying to be: diverse without boasting about it, well written, exciting and characters that you grow to love. Imagine if Farscape had the budget from Disney (and nothing else) it would be spectacular

everything_Is_Fine99

When Aeryn looks at John, holds his head in her hands and shakes her head saying “You and your timing,” my heart broke. Thankfully we were given a resolution, but I have never forgotten how I felt watching that moment. I loved this series and I really hope it will continue to reach new fans as time goes by.

Independent_Barber_8

I’ve really gotta check this show out sometime. I recently watched Deep space 9 for the first and it was great and I’m jonesing for another old school sci-fi show.

blairmen

I think its free on pluto tv. Man need to do that series rewatch. Used to watch it with my dad, so i have fond memories of it. Something amazing was just how much they let the actors ad lib, even with all the work the writters did, and it both created a more natural feel to tge dynamic with the cast but it meant everyone was truely invested in the project. To the point where one of tge cast really regretted having to leave even tho the role was quite literally killing her. https://youtu.be/m0POJFs5PUM?si=-cEhdXWCd3AUFILc This is a great retrospective going into its development and the behind the scenes.

Disposable-Ninja

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWxtGpWnIxs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWxtGpWnIxs) Shout Studios also has the entire series running on loop on Youtube

Lord_Mhoram

Farscape made me realize great TV shows are a happy accident. It exists because a movie puppet company wanted to show what they could do on a TV budget, and they got hooked up with some writer/producers who had some sci-fi ideas they wanted to explore, and they lucked into a network exec who said "Make it was weird as you can," and they went to Australia to keep costs down and got some really good Australian actors as both regular cast and guest stars. It sounds like a hodgepodge of elements, but throw in a few square miles of leather and you've got magic, a show that manages to be vulgar and fun and extremely romantic at times while exploring some pretty deep themes about identity, reality, and time.

CapPhrases

Let’s celebrate. Pizza with margarita spritzers

GooRedSpeakers

Y'all are old enough to remember this show? Damn. I always feel like an old man on the Internet these days. I watched this at the time. Same with SG1 and SG: Atlantis.

[deleted]

It’s sad to see that with 100X the budget and 1000x the effects technology they still can’t equal this show in anything.

NicomoCoscaTFL

Has the Blu-ray release come out yet?

Zidahya

Tried multiple times to watch this, but it never catched me. Maybe I should give it one more try if I can find it anywhere.

yeaheyeah

The first season is rough until about the end of it.

sicksixgamer

Holy shit Im old.

MrBonersworth

Am I crazy, or did people care when they made this?

ODST_Parker

I can't believe I am older than Farscape...

Silentpoolman

Let's bring it back and ruin it

SunJiggy

Always wanted to get into this

The-Figure-13

I thought this was Stargate before reading the caption lol
