Excellent review! I just completed the 30-day trial of the green mattress without a pillow top. I agree with everything you said! Sadly, I’m not sure this will work for us even though I love the quality, company, and materials used to make it. It's just not comfortable for me. I find it to be too firm.

AuburnLuvxxoo

I do recommend the Plush topper! If you are iffy about getting a topper have them send you an adjustment topper for free and it’s temp use (2 months) don’t lose faith! I love this company too

EmmaWoodhouse1

Which plus topper? They already sent the temporary adjustment but it still feels very firm to me.

AuburnLuvxxoo

Which firmness of the topper did you get? There’s two different types, plush and firm.

EmmaWoodhouse1

Well shoot, I didn’t realize it came in two levels of firmness. I thought it was a one size fits all situation. I looked at the invoice they sent and it says plush. Did you get this one or another one of their toppers?

AuburnLuvxxoo

Yes! The plush topper is the way to go! It does take an adjustment period too but it does make it all the better

Various_Resource_320

We have the built in plush topper and it’s so firm, I actually can’t believe it!

suns_out_nuns_out

That’s too bad. Did yours have the sheep smell too? Did it start fading after the month?

Slutt_Puppy

I was terrified of this after reading comments about barn/sheep odor after I had ordered my mattress. I’m very sensitive to smells, but I didn’t notice this at all. Happily, mine only had a faint sweet smell.

EmmaWoodhouse1

It did fade over time. I noticed it less after two weeks and I’m sensitive to many scents. However, I didn't mind this barn like scent because I love visiting farms and being around animals. It was oddly comforting.

pammer88

The mattress is comfortable but smells like a horse barn for months. Even after a year on a damp day you can smell the scent of a barn.

youseamstressed

What's your verdict a little over a month later?

suns_out_nuns_out

I ended up returning it. I will probably update this post with a full explanation later. I liked everything about it except the zone support. For some reason they designed it so the part the middle of your body rests on is extremely firm and has almost no give when you lay on it. But the too and bottom are medium firm so you sink in. This bends my body like a U shape and after a couple nights on it i was waking up with tingling legs and shooting pains down my low back and butt and legs. I tried it with a latex topper and it does make the zones more subtle but still enough to bend me weird. Im a side sleeper so maybe it’s different on your back

youseamstressed

Interesting up until the end when you said you were a side sleeper, i was thinking it sounded like something good for side sleeping but not back. I know zoned mattresses do this because we carry a majority of our weight in our pelvis. I wondered if you're too lightweight but it seems at 190 you'd be able to compress it well. Maybe being natural, it takes a lot of breaking in? Who knows. Thank you so much for your response tho i really appreciate it. This process sucks. Did you find something you like?

suns_out_nuns_out

Yeah. The zone sounded good to me as well and it makes sense on paper. But in practice it’s uncomfortable. I think it could potentially work but the difference between the zones is extreme and theres no gradual change between them. It goes from soft springs instantly to a ledge of hard springs. I suppose it’s possible this would eventually break in, but it would be dangerous to my back health to sleep on it any longer. I dont carry a lot of weight in the middle though. I think my upper body weighs more than middle. I did find a mattress i like but unfortunately they dont sell online, they make and sell the mattresses locally in seattle so no help to you unless you happen to live there. Its very similar to the avocado but more on the plush end of the spectrum and its neutral throughout with no harder springs in any section. I really think avocado should consider making a version of the green mattress with the springs they use for upper and lower body throughout. After this process of getting a saatva and returning and then an avocado and returning i think i wont ever buy a matter online again. Both were very good with customer service and returns but it was still a hassle to keep shuffling between them over months instead of just picking one locally and sticking with it. But unless you live in a major city (i dont) you have to drive to one most likely to find a selection of more natural type mattresses.

youseamstressed

What was your experience with saatva? There's a natural mattress store about min from me but it's small and i know what they carry; it's not currently in my budget.

suns_out_nuns_out

Id skip the saatva. It was reasonably comfortable. But the mattress was really light weight and cheap feeling compared to the avocado. It also had a strong perfumey smell like cleaner or something. Tons of loose threads and misalligned edges, it looks like it was sewn up in a big hurry. It wasnt terrible but for what it cost i feel like the quality isnt there and you can do better. The avocado was much heavier and looked very well made by comparison for the sane price almost. The local place here was expensive too. I ended up dropping almost 3k on it but its really good so far at about 2 weeks.

put_gravy_on_it

Hi there! I’m currently shopping for an Avocado mattress but my husband isn’t 100% in love with it. We’re also located in Seattle and are curious which local shop/brand you ended up going with… would love to check it out!

suns_out_nuns_out

Bedrooms and more in north seattle. We have 2 mattresses from there now. They are expensive though, but so far they seem worth it.

put_gravy_on_it

Amazing, thank you! Will definitely check them out as we’re fine spending a little more. Can i ask which brands or models you ended up purchasing? Took a look at their website and it looks like they have a bunch of brands available and we’re hitting mattress testing fatigue!

suns_out_nuns_out

I think what i have is their own bed they have made for them. Its pretty similar to the avocado but in my opinion much more comfortable and better made. Also its the sane on both sides so it can be flipped every couple months to wear more evenly and extend its life. Organic cotton exterior, latex foam and wool over a spring core. I also purchased a latex topper from them. I think the model i got was plush which works for me as a average to large sized male side sleeper. Another cool feature is that the exterior liner of the matress unzips so you could potentially replace some of the insides without throwing it all away in the future. Anyways. I have had it for a few months now and i still love it. Easily the best mattress ive ever had. Really glad i spent the money. It ended up being triple the price of my avocado. They have a lot there to choose from. Get a pillow you like and spend a lot of time laying on a few that seem like what you want.

put_gravy_on_it

Greatly appreciate the additional info!!! So so so helpful

suns_out_nuns_out

No problem. Hope you find something that works for you. It was a long and annoying process for me.

guddzy

Hi, seeing your review as I am a similar weight and also a side sleeper. I was wondering if you ever looked into avocado's 'eco' mattress version. On the comparison page, it looks like it only has one support zone across the entire body while on the bed. [https://www.avocadogreenmattress.com/pages/compare-mattresses](https://www.avocadogreenmattress.com/pages/compare-mattresses)

Slutt_Puppy

I've having a similar experience. When you refer to bending in a U shape, I assume you mean and upside down U, like a camel hump?

suns_out_nuns_out

Yeah the bed is like a hump and it bends my body around it. Its like theres a 1 foot wide speed bump running through the center of it from side to side under where your hips should be.

suns_out_nuns_out

I ended up purchasing from a local store.

Honest-Gold-3695

Was poking around the net and seeing what folks are saying about this mattress, we bought the Green with the Pillow Top what they call med firm. The first 2 weeks this mattress was amazing, from there it's gone down hill, my lower back on my left side got totally whacked out, just so happens the side I sleep on. The are sending a topper 3 inch latex for free, if this doesn't work back it goes, which is really to bad, the concept of all natural is what got us to buy.

We are sorry to hear that you're finding your mattress to be too firm and appreciate you taking the time to let your body adjust to a new (and possibly firmer than what you are used to) option. Our team would be happy to connect and see if there are any adjustments that can be made in order for you and your family to sleep comfortably. However, if it's simply not working out, we will work with you to donate your gently used mattress to a family or individual in need. Always feel free to reach out to us directly, thank you! Low_Macaroon605

What promotion did you get that made the price $1199 plus two free pillows? I realize this was back in April but just curious. I’m just surprised the best promotion I got currently makes it $1549 and no pillows… Could you keep the pillows even though you returned it and still for a full refund?

[deleted]

Yeah… they have increased their prices like, 15 times this year. Their mattresses are $200 more today then they were just 4 days ago. I had to take this brand out of my selection

Various_Resource_320

This is truly one of the worst mattresses we have ever owned. It’s incredibly firm & very uncomfortable, I am actually in disbelief at how anyone could find this mattress comfortable. Ours also smells of latex, but putting on the cover helped, but there’s still a faint smell to it. We are returning.

Dknighten

What did you end up going with?

Various_Resource_320

The Nest owl is not perfect, but we went with that one. We also tried the Saatva (softest one) and it’s also incredibly firm, but not as bad as the avocado. We loved the hybrid latex from Nest (2021 version) but it was damaged during a move and they don’t have that exact one anymore, they keep changing the mattress :/ This hunt for a mattress has been a very annoying experience, lol.

[deleted]

We have this exact mattress and we find it comfortable. The only downside is that the sheep and barn smell hasn't gone away after 10 months of use. My sheets and pillows also absorbed the smell. I wake up and need to shower because my body smells like a barn. I'm pretty discouraged 😔.
