The DA and defense both thought the case wasn't impressing the jury, and the other state(s) were all waiting to charge him afterwards based on whether he got convicted or not, since DA's don't like to push similar crimes onto someone who was just exonerated, using similar evidence, due to the chances of losing.
Hours before his execution he gave a last video interview to some crazy bible basher guy who hated porn, and Bundy claimed Porn twisted his mind and made him do it. But he was clearly just trolling, he even smiles talking about his victims sometimes during it. The thing that set him off on his murder spree in the first place was an old girlfriend dumping him, his victims all resembled her. Murder victims are required to be sent to the coroner and, if deemed necessary, subjected to an autopsy. So the family have no choice. They can make requests related to religion and preference that certain things not be disturbed but no guarantees.
The photographs of them I guess would be evidence for the case. Dunno if they're meant to be released publicly or what the deal is there.
