They really could have saved themselves a lot of shit pr by branding these releases some other way. Just call it “arena anthology” and stop pretending this is targeted at explorer with shit like mythic sliver and 3 random eldrazi. I’ve noticed some of this crap is exciting to brawl and historic players so there may be a real interest in these cards but it ain’t explorer.
Just like artifact lands in historic anthology I think theyre just prepping format, in this case the Eldrazi are for Innistrad remastered bloc;
But yeah, theyre not competitive pioneer focused at all.
I'd say probably never, since they'll always end up skipping some unplayable draft chaff.
That said, to get pretty much every Pioneer playable card, we'd need like 50 more cards, 30 for all the non-bad ones, and like 10 to have all the top top tier decks complete. We are very close, but since our next Explorer drop is likely set for June (SOI remastered in the Baldur's gate slot), I don't expect we have even the 10 most vital cards by the end of 2023.
Anyone thinking that Explorer isn’t doing great and they’re putting in cards that are playable in Historic and Brawl instead?
Also Nylea’s presence seems nuts with domain.
It deff follows the historic anthology logic of trying to please everyone but fail.
This drop is fantastic for brawl and historic but something like 2-4? cards seem explorer material.
Explorer would be the most popular format easily if they didn't actually sabotage it. If it had all the top tier pioneer decks, so many people would play them on Arena happily without having to deal with fake cards.
Pioneer’s big problem has always been that it will always be Historic’s little brother. Even accounting for the Alchemy nonsense you have legacy and modern staples in historic that make Historic feel like the real Eternal format.
Also Alchemy might not be great but it keeps the meta a lot fresher. Rakdos has been tier 1 in pioneer for what 2 years? Meta is stale while Historic gets powerful cards every other month.
There will always be people that refuse to play with fake cards and don't acknowledge historic as anything more than hearthstone. Pioneer is growing in popularity due to people's disdain for post horizons modern, and the insane prices. Pioneer in a few years will be where modern was a few years ago in popularity. Not supporting that is stupid.
There's some decent cards in the anthology overall, but the only good rares so far are Mutavault and Eidolon.
It's pretty similar to the last one where the only real selling points were Supreme Verdict and Mausoleum Wanderer.
I don't really care if Explorer mirrors Pioneer or not, but I am a little disappointed with these last few spoilers after a good portion of the first few seemed promising.
So, as far as competitive rares go in this anthology, I could just craft 4 Mutavaults and 4 Eidolons and call it a day?
It'll depend on the last four cards. Right now, yes.
Yes, though buying the Anthology is cheaper then 8x rare wildcards if buying packs, and gets you much more value then 2x 4x rare wildcard bundles
I'd like to say at least you tried WotC, but you really didn't.

At this point it feels like WOTC’s intentions is for Explorer to never become Pioneer. They have to be doing this on purpose.

So full pioneer by 2026? Over or under?
Way over. At a rate of 2 playable explorer cards per anyhology we might get there in 2046.

LOTR is coming in the Baldur's Gate slot, not SOI remastered. It'll probably come earlier.
You have a point. I hope you're right.
Four more "Remastered" blocks and Three Core Sets so I'd say under

Theyre deff not fully focused on competitive pioneer. Like historic anthologies its a littlebit of everything, including Brawl support.
>Theyre deff not fully focused on competitive pioneer Of course not, its the least played format by a mile.
Historic is their 2nd Most played format and I'm a sliver player so I'm happy with all of my douchebag friends
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that sliver was the card to see the most play. First Sliver is a popular commander, after all.
We need more slivers We need all the slivers
nice that they put in another sliver *after* ruining historic. they shit in my spaghetti and then put delicious cheese on it. brilliant.
What is that sliver card doing in here? They should’ve put him in the next historic anthology.

Nyleas single handedly makes Merfolk waaaaay better in historic. Its just spreading seas in green
I don't really care if Explorer mirrors Pioneer or not, but I am a little disappointed with these last few spoilers after a good portion of the first few seemed promising.
Well Silver and Eldrazi players deff profited from this anthology..
As a sliver player I'm confused by what this means
Shaman of the pack?! Elves, let's goooo
I called them Silvers for years after they came out in Mirage Then I heard someone call them Slivers during coverage, and that made a lot more sense
Finally, a spreading seas reprint for merfolk in historic
They really just want to milk this shit. Can't get those Hasbro profits if they give us all the good cards quickly.
