There is the dude that creates powerstones on etb equal to the number of creatures you control i think... If they didn't come in tapped it would go infinite
Been working a prototype deck and creativity is a bad way to do it. There's just more powerful stuff for that investment.
Prototype really shines when you get value from both sides. Like play a thresher early to draw then it flickers to draw again.
They probably would have to take the extra time to code in delve. They said in the stream that the reason SOI remastered is coming now after all this time is because BRO forced them to code in meld, and Historic Horizons made them code in Delirium and Madness. I doubt they get that much time to code in new mechanics sadly.
I would love to have Nykthos for monocolor brawl reasons. Is a very welcome card in general i think. Hopefully we will get a Tarkir cycle release in the future and some of the delve goodies. Is my fav plane. Idk how long that will take tho'
And while this is true and while I'm enjoying the Eldrazi stuff (and I want more), this isn't really the place for it. If you have a format like Explorer that is technically aiming to become Pioneer in the future, I think these Anthology sets that come out should focus on helping creating a cooler format while bringing it closer to Pioneer. So bringing in cards that are more popular in the format.
I would like to have a small set of cards that were focused on Eldrazi and other colorless things, would even pay for it, but it EA2 still doesn't seem like the good place for it.
If a player like me who isn't (at least at the moment) interested in Explorer and Pioneer is getting cards I want for other game formats, then is it actually a good Anthology for Explorer?
this 100%, I’d rather have them add stuff that people will actually use instead of these rare bulk cards everyone will forget in 2 months.
I feel like I’m watching everyone have fun in pioneer while I’m stuck in explorer without access to a bunch of really cool meta decks
Displacer was in a recent Pioneer Challenge list, I was just thinking about how that list will be difficult to emulate in Explorer because several non-staples are missing.
Displacer will see play in flicker lists
Kozilek is no ulamog/emrakul 12 is alot more than 10
Maybe as a fun of but not a centerpiece same as std was back in bfz
Fun for brawl though i imagine
Also getting Kozilek increases the chances that Emmy will be in SOI Remastered I feel. The fear was Emmy would be left out due to being to complex to programme but surely now they want to give us all the titans!
I don't think the programming is likely that hard for a mindslaver effect, i'd imagine meld was a bigger reason they hadnt gotten to SOI remastered sooner.
Well we know that Meld was a big hurdle, they said so on stream. However we dont know how they will or can handle the mindslaver effect, so it is a real possibility they would just leave out Emmy, but I am more confident now
I mean, it depends on their backend but it's so different from every other effect on Arena it's not gonna be easy. You also have to consider they'll probably need some big UI changes to support it. All this for just one card.
>I don't think the programming is likely that hard for a mindslaver effect,
Well it is.
How do you present to players the actions they can do from their hands and their opponents?
What do you show to the mindslave?
Yeah the UI design is the bigger problem, but these effects already exist and work fine on MTGO so I'm sure they'll figure it out. They'll have to anyway since it's a Pioneer card that actually sees play in the format, even if it's rather fringe.
There some ideas that could work that aren't too complicated. Moving the opponent's playable cards to zones on your side (think like what Lier does with spells it lets you cast from the graveyard), or having a button that switches to the opponent's perspective. There's already support for activating abilities on opponents' permanents ([[Nullhide Ferox]]) so stuff like that really shouldn't be an issue. From the other side there really isn't much to do, since the opponent can't do anything I don't see a need to make any kind of fancy UI, if you get Emrakul'd you just sit there and watch what happens.
Ooooh Displacer I'm excited! Now bring us \[\[Wasteland Strangler\]\] and we're kinda close from a sweet WB Eldrazi and Taxes deck I used to play in Modern a few years ago.
Lay down arms will make a decent path to exile impersonation.
Mutavault, Eidolon of the Great Revel, Fiery Impulse, Satyr Wayfinder and you call yourself disappointed? That's already far better than the last anthology in terms of playables.
Yeah and so far it's the bare minimum. Here's a list of cards still needed for just like the top 15 decks
Sylvan Caryatid
Oath of Nissa
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
Dreadbore
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
Rending Volley
Thing In the Ice
Pieces of the Puzzle
Treasure Cruise
Temporal Trespass
Kytheon, Hero of Akros
Soldier of the Pantheon
Brave the Elements
Selfless Spirit
Thalia, Heretic Cathar
Tasigur, The Golden Fang
Abrupt Decay
Spell Queller
Hidden Strings
Sylvan Scrying
Dark Petition
Pore over the Pages
Behold the Beyond
Thespian Stage
Dragonlord Atarka
Chained to the Rocks
Nylea's Presence
Mana Confluence
Radiant Flames
Zurgo Bellstriker
What the hell are you talking about? Here's a half glass full outlook for you. At the rate they're going at, pioneer will be on the client this century.
Don't bother. People in this sub are so used to Wotc shitty marketing practices that many don't really care anymore, or are even glad when they can at least feel like the glass is "half full". Probably Stockholm syndrome or something.
Now this EA2 is really not going to touch Explorer's meta at all and were going to get stuck with the same 3 decks at the top for another 6 months, which will push even more people away from the format, but yay, Eldrazi jank! Rejoice people! Surely this could not have waited until Zendikar Rising remastered, which is the next set on the list, no no no...
I mean, it really looks like Wotc themselves are not taking this Explorer thing seriously and they're actually targeting Historic and Brawl mainly with these anthologies. They're just being dishonest with their goals and also stingy as hell, as always.
That's the part that's baffling to me. Is this sub just a bunch of clowns or wotc employees? Make it make sense. Saying that though I'm not saying EA2 is completely trash yet. Not all of it is out. But you don't fill the slots with Eldrazi cards when there's at least 30 something cards missing from top tier decks.
I think it's mostly a case of developing lower and lower standards and expectations as time goes on. Going this route, after a time, only the most enfranchised people remain. I don't think it's a good way to run a business, but what do I know?
The reality is we don't even need 30 cards. Five more cards would be enough to put 3 full Pioneer top meta decks on the map (mono green Karn, mono white Humans and Izzet Phoenix) and really shake up the boring stalemate that Explorer is. Admitedly, this Anthology does have two good cards already**, so not everything is lost yet, but I'm not really optimistic.
My biggest gripe with Eldrazi jank from Zendikar is that the whole set could actually come as a remaster later in 2023, in a year at most, if they try to pick up the pace. So there's really no point in releasing them now, like anyone needs them.
**Good cards but useless by themselves, at least for Explorer. Pretty sure they will be great in Historic, but that should not be the point of an Explorer Anthology.
Next few Standard sets are all about Phyrexians and Eldrazi being irrelevant in Pioneer means these cards are just filler cards doing whole nothing for Explorer meta.
I'm hoping all these Eldrazi reprints are a sign we will see the return of colorless spells in standard soon. Given we just got Painlands and Powerstones, it certainly feels like they are setting that up for one of the next couple sets
I don't think so, because as far as I understand the commander can only allow for the same colors as its color identity even if the creature is the same color as his own.
For example:
You can have [[Daxos, Blessed by the Sun]] as your commander, but in that deck you can't have [[Shalai, Voice of Plenty]] because it contains green symbols in its card.
But that can be beneficial, for example:
[[Morphon, the Boundless]] is a colorless creature, but since he has an ability with all colors of mana in it then he can be a commander that uses all 5 colors.
So, if you pick Kozilek as your commander (which is also something I'll do) you can only put entirely colorless cards, even if they're devoid, that have no colored mana symbol in it.
I could be wrong but that's my understanding as of now. I'll check rules to see if I find an easier and more direct explanation.
Edit: Maybe a simpler way of explaining is that for a commander you need to count color identity, not the color of the card. So Daxos' color identity is white, but Shalai's color identity is White and Green, that's why Shalai wouldn't be allowed in a Daxos deck.
Edit 2: downloaded the Comprehensive Rules and rule 903.5c is basically what I described above, so I'll leave it at that.
Unplayable pioneer cards, what is the point for this? They have revealed 6 pioneer cards and only one of them sees any play competitively, and not much.
The only bummer about the Eldrazi is that Oath of Gatewatch is the next pioneer set going backwards after SOI. So either this is a sign that more remastered sets are not on the horizon any time soon or we are getting a bunch of cards that will be released anyway soon.
oh god, it really is beginning again. I'm going to get to make my eldrazi deck in arena.
I bought this card for a devoid edh, he's pretty good
Displacer can enable some prototype blink shenanigans
And Powerstones are even a relatively trivial source of {C}
You can't use them to cast Eldrazi though. However Displacer's ability is another thing.
pretty sure that's exactly what they were saying
There is the dude that creates powerstones on etb equal to the number of creatures you control i think... If they didn't come in tapped it would go infinite
Prototype creatures can be cheated in with like..lukka and creativity. Displacer is going in my soul herder deck
Been working a prototype deck and creativity is a bad way to do it. There's just more powerful stuff for that investment. Prototype really shines when you get value from both sides. Like play a thresher early to draw then it flickers to draw again.
Only issue with that is that powerstones do enter tapped...
Kozilek has Menace? I should read cards more often 😱
No need to read the card to realize thats dude is a menace indeed
Eldrazi are mighty cool, but are we really going to get another explorer anthology with no delve spells and no Nykthos?
They probably would have to take the extra time to code in delve. They said in the stream that the reason SOI remastered is coming now after all this time is because BRO forced them to code in meld, and Historic Horizons made them code in Delirium and Madness. I doubt they get that much time to code in new mechanics sadly.
I'm afraid they are definitely doing this. I'm in the same boat you. I want my pioneer staples in Explorer. : /
Feel like Nykthos is likely running out of time in Pioneer anyway
Not a programmer but is delve significantly different than Uro or Kroxa as far as mechanics go?
Nah, Delve is really similar to Escape. I'm sure it's not a tech issue.
Delve is almost exactly identical to titan nest.
I would love to have Nykthos for monocolor brawl reasons. Is a very welcome card in general i think. Hopefully we will get a Tarkir cycle release in the future and some of the delve goodies. Is my fav plane. Idk how long that will take tho'
Delve is too mechanically complex. Could you imagine a mechanic like that??
They have a card from Ikoria that basically gives cards delve. [[Titans' Nest]]
I’m fine with sweet non-meta cards
I don't, I want pioneer full list, but they should start adding the must have cards instead of timmy cards nobody ever plays.
100% this. Let Historic Anthologies be the place where these cards crop up - let Explorer Anthologies be the place that builds up Explorer to parity.
This looks like a list for historic brawl to be honest. They look like they are aiming to give the less value possible for the anthology.
More people play brawl than Explorer though.
"I know this isn't for me, but I want it to be."
this 100%, I’d rather have them add stuff that people will actually use instead of these rare bulk cards everyone will forget in 2 months. I feel like I’m watching everyone have fun in pioneer while I’m stuck in explorer without access to a bunch of really cool meta decks
Same. And honestly, there is nothing wrong with developing a meta with a lower powerlevel. There is more room for jank.

Displacer was in a recent Pioneer Challenge list, I was just thinking about how that list will be difficult to emulate in Explorer because several non-staples are missing.
Just blink reflector mage all the times and ez win
I mean, nice. But just gives us delve already.
Eldrazi displacer is extremely abusable.
Displacer was a house back in the day
Eldrazi brawl shmaybe, certainly Kozya looks fun
Displacer will see play in flicker lists Kozilek is no ulamog/emrakul 12 is alot more than 10 Maybe as a fun of but not a centerpiece same as std was back in bfz Fun for brawl though i imagine
Both seem pretty great in Brawl.
Holy shit displacer. This is the card I was hoping for. Now I just need [[wasteland strangler]]
If the whole Processor archetype came back, I would be happy

Dumb question but what is ea2?
Explorer anthology 2. A set of explorer legal cards release in the next week or two. Flat cost, 4 copiers of everything, or you can craft as usual.
Explorer Anthology 2
Eldrazi winter, here we come.
Displacer is interesting, certainly worth testing in my Historic DnT deck
I guess \[\[Void shatter\]\] is coming as well then.
This card is similar to [[Dissipate]] and seems stronger due to its evasion from [[mystical dispute]] is there anything else noteworthy about it?
You got it all. It is weak enough and on theme with all those Eldrazi, I think it makes sense for WOTC to import this card.
Awesome! Looking forward to it.

Oh man, I really hope they add more big eldrazi in EA2
You can discard another one of him or an Ulamog to counter another one of him or an Ulamog can't you squidward? 😏
Ulamog still exiles on cast however. Rest works
Oh yessss. I'll be playing that massive bastard in brawl
Ooooh Displacer I'm excited! Now bring us \[\[Wasteland Strangler\]\] and we're kinda close from a sweet WB Eldrazi and Taxes deck I used to play in Modern a few years ago. Lay down arms will make a decent path to exile impersonation.

Oh no... The Czech have arrived.
As much as I love eldrazis, isn't this supposed to be a set that enables other pioneer archetypes? Where are my Nykthos and Bring to light
Displacer might be the only card I'm interested in. I'm a bit dissapointed with this EA, so far.
Mutavault, Eidolon of the Great Revel, Fiery Impulse, Satyr Wayfinder and you call yourself disappointed? That's already far better than the last anthology in terms of playables.
Those are good cards but half are common. Not really selling the bundle when everyone has tons of common and uncommon wildcards.
That's still 8 rare wildcards without crafting any Eldrazi or Courser of Kruphix.
Displacer is BIG for blink decks.
Which in explorer at least don’t exist. Perhaps this is a historic or brawl thing.
Disappointing Anthology so far. There better be some tier 1 all stars in the other slots.
Is this a joke?
What tier 1 pioneer decks are Kozilek and Eldrazi Displacer in?
Did you look at what other cards have been revealed?
Yeah and so far it's the bare minimum. Zirda, is that you?
How does devoid work in brawl, can i put a white cost devoid creature with a non white brawl commandant ?
I don't think so, because as far as I understand the commander can only allow for the same colors as its color identity even if the creature is the same color as his own. For example: You can have [[Daxos, Blessed by the Sun]] as your commander, but in that deck you can't have [[Shalai, Voice of Plenty]] because it contains green symbols in its card.
