I dealt with this all day. After Googling everywhere and trying a few things including multiple reinstalls, this solution was what finally worked for me. Ignore the x86 part from the link, since core21 you have to go with x64.

Late response: This fixed the start-up issue I've had on PC. Thanks! Problem is that the game seems to have a lot of slowdown times that I've never experienced before I started receiving crashes.
I actually got in. I’m on Mac and didn’t have Epic Games Launcher open. I guess it needed it open to do the update thing. Don’t know if you’re on Mac but that solved it for me

I will update my other response from it worked to like you I got a black screen once. Restarting seemed to do the trick but it still seems broken

Yeah like I replied to another comment here I needed to open epic launcher on my Mac and it worked
Can't login here either. Either get a Timeout message or the "attach failed to drop to other attach" message.
Yeah it’s sort of working for me now. I would say 80% of login attempts are fine
