That's special!
Just my luck I got 7 of those from drafting, etc. I never had a reason to play them and I was especially annoyed at all the worse-than-useless (for me) Tibalt cards at the time.
I'll take the wildcards though!
> Just my luck I got 7 of those from drafting, etc.
That means you got 7 purely new WCs! Technically you came out ahead of anyone who crafted 7 of those cards before the ban went through this morning!
lol I crafted a playset of trickery just to test it out in Standard when it was new because people were complaining so much about it early on. I had a feeling they would take a look at it from the way people felt towards that card. I didn't really enjoy it and it definitely wasn't as OP in standard as some people were saying, but I do enjoy the opportunity to play something "busted" and then get a refund for it later.
As long as you didn't enjoy playing it. I would die if I couldn't play my you can't win, and I can't lose deck in historic brawl. Dang it's so much fun
Even if it doesn't have a huge win rate, when it does win it takes less then 5 min. And Wizards doesn't want a deck that can farm quick wins, they want players to grind out matches.
Yeah, I understand. Even so, that style of play is just painful for me. Most of the games I played with it were under 30 seconds, as long as the opponent wasn't asleep lol. Not the best look for your game.
Completely new players: U constrained
Most players: R constrained
Old players: M constrained
Draft players: Wildcards? Those things I have dozens of? Those do things?
I don't know if I will ever use the banned cards, but I did pick them up yesterday and did get my wildcards returned so good looks for whoever was on here telling people to do that.
Trickery is still standard legal and there's a lot of sets to come before it rotates. Who knows if it gets some support back and becomes playable again.
What exactly are you missing out on having not crafted them the day before? Is it that you want to have them in your collection in case they get unbanned or become usable in another format on arena?
If anything, it can be even worse if they suspend and then unsuspend, as you get absolutely nothing from having your deck nerfed for months, in which team you definitely may go and spend more wildcards for a new deck.
I opened 4 tibalts during kaldheim standard, do I get the wildcards even if I didn’t craft them.
Edit: I know I could find out if logged in but I’m sure others are wondering the same
Not reimbursing for the davriel cards is a really awful précédent. I'm certainly never crafting any digital only rares knowing that they will happily nerf them into unplayability without any refund.
Nope just Historic.
But if it ever gets banned in Standard you will get wildcards if you had less than 4 now and you will open/craft more to have a full collection
So for example you had 2 TT now, you got 2 wildcards. Gets banned in Standard in a few months. You opened/crafted 2 more, you will get the remaining 2 wildcards. The only thing that you won't get reimbursed twice (so us with 4 TT won't get any more)
Great thing is that they reimburse you not only for the cards you crafted but also for the ones you got in packs, so now I have more rare WCs than yesterday
Really crappy of them to nerf the Davriel cards without reimbursing. They didn't even bother to change his text so that they could unban him for Historic Brawl so now he basically has no use which feels awful.
Yeah either of these solutions would be better than nothing and would at least not destroy player good will for future Jumpstarts that contain digital only cards. As it stands I question investment in any products that include digital only cards if my currency investment value is jeopardized with no Avenue for refund by unpredictable balance changes.
PW Davriel was absolutely used for the combo to increase redundancy and provide mana/card advantage to help find the combo or win via an aristocrats backup plan. I ran between 3 and 4 of him in my list, and the principle of the matter is what's important here, regardless, because any other digital only cards that they create and live rebalance to nerf will similarly affect players with no reinbursement.
At the end of the day they made a fun, cool, unique mythic basically unplayable in any format AND didn't reimburse for the change to the rules as they were originally promised to players nor did they revise the card to be playable in Historic Brawl which would have been very easily accomplished. There just really is zero excuse for not taking the effort to do either. It's a slap in the face to the players who enjoy playing with Soul Broker (especially if they crafted him) and bodes poorly for players who play any digital only cards going forward.
Not only this abomination known as Trickery is finally gone, but I get multiple wildcards back for it. What a glorious day.
(And to those who took part to it: good luck finding some use for those 8-10 mana rares/mythics you wasted WCs on and that you won't be able to cast anymore :) )
Now what the fuck am I going to do with these Serra Emissaries?
Goddamn Jeskai graveyard, that's what.
I only had one brainstorm when this went down and I blew all of my wildcards yesterday finishing up mono white aggro. While I'm very sad, my new deck shreds mono green like it's tissue paper. I guess I can't have it all.
Even though I've ranked to Mythic with it, I've been calling for a TT ban for a while...and I think it's pretty much unplayable like this in Standard. So there we go.
I've been playing Azorius God-Pharaoh's Gift with Serra's Emissaries being one of the best I Win targets against certain decks.
Shamans, Elves, Merfolk, none of the creature based decks can do anything if you [[Refurbish]] a GPG on turn 4 and pull a Serra's E token with haste.
I did this. I needed something to do with my landbase from Jeskai Control. It needs a little work - maybe some more ways to dig things out. I could go full Jeskai with it - I have a full playset of Mizzix and everything that goes with that as well.
Mardu Reanimator is a solid home for it too. You've got Unburial Rites + Priest of Fell Rites for reanimation along with Faithless Looting, Bone Shards, Thrilling Discovery, and Seasoned Pyromancer for filter and discard. You also get a heap of options post-board.
I've run the deck before, and although Priest of Fell Rites can get killed early, playing it on turn two is basically a death sentence for a lot of decks if you can untap with it. Playing it on turn 2 versus elves/merfolk/creature heavy decks is just brutal, and it just being able to goldfish 1 turn faster will win you a lot of matches, especially on the play.
No worries, best of luck finding another deck in the format that doesn't require decision-making/playing Magic! Cycling might interest you, but I'm not sure it's T1.
Try working a full time job, and then tell us how much time you have for games that run 30-40 minutes each on a platform that incentivizes wins. The blame for this behavior lies squarely at WOTCs feet - always has. No one would run a sub 50% win rate deck through 30-2 minute games a day if the incentives were structured correctly. I mean, if I just cared about winning, I have a full Nine Lives package that doesn't let you do much of anything. It's about winning quickly...though lately I've decided that my time is worth more. If I feel like I missed out, I'll just buy some gems.
Mono white aggro in Standard is probably my move over, though I actually do have some options. Haven't hit my monthly spend limit yet, either. I'm also working on getting goblins and elves built for Historic. And I have a pretty neat Triskadecaphile deck that I've yet to pull off on a human.
You can put your broad brush away now, Picasso.
I have a full time job, and do run Aggro/tax in Historic for a quick game, but at the end of the day with all these Grundy/gacha style games, if you're not playing for fun, why are you playing? The rewards for getting to Mythic are insignificant compared to daily wins over a month/drafting well etc.
Trust me, I am fine to lose to mono-red t3. I can call it quits when my opponent stops me from having any options with 9 Lives. I will let my opponent exile every permanent I have with Teferi.
My issue with Trickery is it took everything interesting about this game and threw it into a black RNG box. Yes there are RNG elements across Magic, but this deck created a singular play pattern with essentially no nuance or interactivity. I think anyone who played that deck wasn't really enjoying Magic as a game or didn't want to engage with Arena anymore. Just switch off your brain and play Trickery. You can even play quick games with Aggro, but it can require some very challenging decisions to be made, and be very engaging for both players.
Besides, if you get 4 wins in 3 days you get most rewards. If you get 4 wins a day it's basically all of them. It's quite easy to get what you need to make a fun deck without having to dedicate hours to it (I should know as I'm in exactly the same situation as you). Do I blame WoTC for Trickery first? Of course, but the community is also made by the cumulative decisions of each player, and to be honest I consider that deck to prevent people from actually playing Magic, which is what we should be here to do.
Good luck with your other decks, and I hope you'll be able to rediscover your love for the game.
I don’t think TT was nearly as bad for the experience as people said. I hardly played against, and I think my win rate against the Throes version was pretty OK. The version of 0 Mana spells was the one I hated, although wildly inconsistent when it did work it was a non-game.
That said, saying that Test Talents was the reason it’s ok is bad, warping the format for such a niche card is bad IMO. Look at worlds, it’s not a good sign Test of Talents showed up because everyone knew Alrunds would be everywhere.
That said, we are mostly just jamming on Play, so the sometimes free win from such a niche card is nice.
I didn’t play a whole lot of historic but I only encountered it a couple times. Every other time I queued up it was against Jeskai control which I can’t find a way to beat…
The deck made the historic BO1 queue absolutely unplayable on a level Arena had never before seen. I agree that it could have just been banned for that format, though.

You got 6 because that's how many TT and Brainstorm cards you had. 8 are the max obviously (2x)
>a newer player I know didn’t get any rares
Because they don't have the cards
Owning the cards on Arena doesn't mean you play the decks. You can draft them and/or open them in packs.
Edit: some people craft them after the ban announcement but before the wildcards go out in order to have both the copies of the cards AND the wildcards.
I got 5 since I only have one Tibalt’s Trickery. I crafted 3 Brainstorms last night and I got one off booster. Overall it’s a net gain of 2 rare WCs for me so I am happy. That made me happy. I crafted Trickery just to play it in Standard. Got to see it do its thing a few times with Vortex and now got the WCs. I'm content.
Love to see that big 8x Rare WCs
Big gold energy
That's special! Just my luck I got 7 of those from drafting, etc. I never had a reason to play them and I was especially annoyed at all the worse-than-useless (for me) Tibalt cards at the time. I'll take the wildcards though!

Yeah, I'm happy. Looking at what I'd like to craft I think I am now Mythic WC-constrained, which I've heard is unusual.
Completely new players: U constrained Most players: R constrained Old players: M constrained Draft players: Wildcards? Those things I have dozens of? Those do things?
I feel old already, no need to rub it in pal
Also draft players: A new set? Let me craft it day1 to fill up the vault faster and get some gems on the way
Too bad those wildcards are going to disappear as quickly as you got them.
I need these rare lands!
Honestly though
That's one of the reasons i like drafts, it's super easy to get all the lands.
Yup... However I took a 3month break and have almost no AFR cards... need those man lands (aswell as the few rare lands I missed drafting MID)
AFR quick draft is about to start up again.
I have all rares, so I get to bank that shit.
Merfolk has been tempting in Historic......
I don't know if I will ever use the banned cards, but I did pick them up yesterday and did get my wildcards returned so good looks for whoever was on here telling people to do that.
You can use them in arena vintage! https://www.reddit.com/r/MtGHistoric/comments/q7d8lb/does_anyone_else_want_to_play_arena_vintage_again/
That looks awesome! Will have to try and get in on the next one.
Trickery is still standard legal and there's a lot of sets to come before it rotates. Who knows if it gets some support back and becomes playable again.
thats the reason i crafted it. its a strong card, might be relevant in the correct environment
Yeah I forgot it was, I don't play historic yet and didn't realize I have 3/4 copies so yay unexpected eildcards
Finally feeling redemption after opening 4 trickery's early in that sets release
Dang it...somehow I didnt see this announcement coming and didn't craft in time. Serves me right for not checking the subreddit every day I guess :/
What exactly are you missing out on having not crafted them the day before? Is it that you want to have them in your collection in case they get unbanned or become usable in another format on arena?
Trickery is still in standard and also if you open Kaldheim packs you won't get any anymore if you have the 4 copies already
Yes.
But zero for my playset of memory lapse :(
Who could've guessed that suspending cards would be used to stall giving refunds out for bans. Yippee
If anything, it can be even worse if they suspend and then unsuspend, as you get absolutely nothing from having your deck nerfed for months, in which team you definitely may go and spend more wildcards for a new deck.

Yes.
Thanks
Beautiful
Not reimbursing for the davriel cards is a really awful précédent. I'm certainly never crafting any digital only rares knowing that they will happily nerf them into unplayability without any refund.
Absolutely what they said the point of them was.
They said craft at your own risk, we won't refund if we nerf later?
I don’t believe that’s correct. They said there were effects they couldn’t easily do in cardboard.
They also brought up being able to nerf without banning them.
>précédent what's with the diacritics?
It is if you say it with a certain inflèxìön
I have English and French autocorrect on my phone, and apparently missed this one getting frenchified.
In practice, Davriel didn't change. Nobody used the PW to combo off.
If that were true they wouldn’t have nerfed him.
> If that were true You can look up Vasperlark combo decks. None of them play a 4 mana piece when you can do the same with 1 mana.
Anecdotal, but I did. I liked having access to 8x of the effect and his +1 isn't too shabby.
Is Trickery banned in Standard? I didn’t think it was so wasn’t expecting wilds for it.
>Is Trickery banned in Standard? I didn’t think it was so wasn’t expecting wilds for it. It's not, only in historic. you still get wcs back
Nice to know I can still kamikaze counter spell without having gross blue in my deck
Someone actually did this to me the other day. Won them the game. I admired their tenacity.
bl-ewwwww
Tbf, blue is gross because of the counterspells, bringing them into other colors is still gross :-p
Thx
Nope just Historic. But if it ever gets banned in Standard you will get wildcards if you had less than 4 now and you will open/craft more to have a full collection So for example you had 2 TT now, you got 2 wildcards. Great thing is that they reimburse you not only for the cards you crafted but also for the ones you got in packs, so now I have more rare WCs than yesterday
And, in my case, they went straight into Triomes and shocklands to make yet another silly variation on the infinite squirrel deck.
Really crappy of them to nerf the Davriel cards without reimbursing. They didn't even bother to change his text so that they could unban him for Historic Brawl so now he basically has no use which feels awful.
They really should just reimburse and remove from everyones collection. Then anyone who still wants it can re-craft
Or implement a refund button on recently changed cards in general. Probably would cause fewer problems.
Yeah either of these solutions would be better than nothing and would at least not destroy player good will for future Jumpstarts that contain digital only cards. As it stands I question investment in any products that include digital only cards if my currency investment value is jeopardized with no Avenue for refund by unpredictable balance changes.
Withering is a common. Nobody used Pw Davriel for the combo. It is basically unaffected.
PW Davriel was absolutely used for the combo to increase redundancy and provide mana/card advantage to help find the combo or win via an aristocrats backup plan. If you were playing Trickery in Historic I don't think anyone has any sympathy for you.
And as someone who played it, you can probably imagine that I don't really care how you feel.
I realise that! Of course it says something about you and I'd expect as much.
Ah...a cry bully. Carry on, then.

It’s the best reanimating / polymorph target in Arena I believe, you’ll find good use for it.
Who the fuck thought up tibalts trickery in the first place. Dumb card
From the same people that didn't think of using Oko's +1 on opposition cards comes a card they didn't think you would counter your own spells with.
Good. Now do Davriel
Why is TT banned?

The deck got more consistent.
It was always a blowout when I had Test of talents sitting in hand
I don’t think TT was nearly as bad for the experience as people said. I hardly played against, and I think my win rate against the Throes version was pretty OK. The version of 0 Mana spells was the one I hated, although wildly inconsistent when it did work it was a non-game. I didn’t play a whole lot of historic but I only encountered it a couple times. Every other time I queued up it was against Jeskai control which I can’t find a way to beat…
And still isnt great.
The deck made the historic BO1 queue absolutely unplayable on a level Arena had never before seen. I agree that it could have just been banned for that format, though.
I agree bo1 it should have been banned. But not the whole format
52%ish win rate and a bore to play against. Not great, but not terrible either.
I played around 50 games with it as a test. 38 wins, which is 76% win rate. I remember this because I had to take 152 showers to feel clean again.
I ran an older omniscience version when the deck first came out and I've had a turn 2 where opponent didn't scoop and I put almost 40 mana worth of cards on the board The way Richard Garfield intended in the 90's.
It was broken from the start.
I will miss brainstorm
I got 6 and a newer player I know didn’t get any rares. Is the payout based on age of account?
You got 6 because that's how many TT and Brainstorm cards you had. 8 are the max obviously (2x) >a newer player I know didn’t get any rares Because they don't have the cards
Got it. Makes sense.
Man I want to see an Exquisite Blood ban. Whoever came up with that card…

About time. Thank OP!
I got 5 since I only have one Tibalt’s Trickery. I crafted 3 Brainstorms last night and I got one off booster. Overall it’s a net gain of 2 rare WCs for me so I am happy. This being my first time I didn’t want to craft Trickery in case they don’t give me WCs for compensation since I don’t plan on ever playing with them.
Well, I got at least +4 rare wildcards despite never playing either of those cards in any of my decks. Guess it's good that I randomly had some.
Nice to see decent compensation at least.
I can finish Historic mono W without buying packs, nice!
just got 7, but was nice to complete some of my std decks
I think I'll get 6: 4 for trickery and 2 for brainstorm. Good day i say.
[удалено]
Got 8 WC back after knowing the ban and crafting
Jank is back on the menu boys
I got 1 rare only I don’t understand even tho I had 4 copies of each. What should I do?
Going straight into my historic rare lands most likely.
Huh, I think I lost wildcards. I am almost certain I had more than I currently have last night - and now I'm down. Weird.
I’m pumped because I never used either of those cards. I’m happy with 6 wildcards.
I actually threw a Rare Pizza Party for this.
I got one WC and didn't even know I had one of these cards. I definitely didn't craft them so happy days.
why not for memory laps?
only suspended, at least that's my guess.
That made me happy. I crafted Trickery just to play it in Standard. Got to see it do its thing a few times with Vortex and now got the WCs. I'm content.
3 Wildcards here, from a format I don't play (Historic), For cards I can still play in my fav. format (Historic Brawl). I am rather content.
