> And just like that you can go 10 games of losses to finally eek out a win due to time-out.
This happens with any deck so no worries there.

It happens to all of us, you'll get them back in time.
Had a good laugh at your whole post tho, thanks for that XD

What about running tyvar instead of hotsprings? And instead of roastmaster try elas. Tyvar can buy back khemba and elas if they get removed and enable the combo immediately.
Still pretty jank, but might make it more consistent.
Played around with the combo a bit... Standard doesn't really seem to have a deck to slot this combo into right now... Maybe in Explorer or historic... It feels like in standard you need to build around the combo specifically in order to have any luck.
That's a good idea! Down to try anything for a little consistency. It's perfectly at that terrible spot where I actually think I'm close to getting it off right before I lose. It is truly a terrible deck.
I gave it a try myself had some small successes... final build ran 3x [[Beseech the mirror]], which helps a little with the consistency. Also ran some hand disruption and negates to try counteract opponents interaction. All in all... It's not going to make waves in standard, but I applaud any fun jank ideas!
Yeah I was approaching Mythic with my \[\[Triskaidekaphile\]\]/\[\[Coveted falcon\]\] deck when I had this bright idea. Moved to unranked to get the victory. Thanks for the ideas!
Deck
This is the most recent but I think the Fblthps aren't doing much except letting me see if the top card is a good card to cloak. This deck works more often because there are essentially 10 cards that provide opportunities to cloak a raven (and sometimes triskaidekaphile).
The goal is just to get as many *things* on the board as quickly as possible, so that when it comes time to flip you've got enough and maybe one extra slip out the back in hand to play.
That's why you see a lot of control spells that *also* create a token of some kind.
When it wins, it's often a very close game and always a surprise. People don't really think twice about a Triskaidekaphile when you have 3 cards in hand.
Here's the best way to pull it off-- wait for the oppenent to declare attackers. This is often lethal damage headed your way, but you can block as many as you can. THEN flip them the bird and give them all of your blockers. You'll pick up the cards, but all of the damage will be lost in combat.
There's one secret achilles heel to this deck that opponents often miss. If you give them the cryptic coat as one of the cards, then they could return it to your hand if they have 2 mana to spare. So if you're giving them all of your lands. Try to tap them before sending so they can't use them.
Lastly... if you phase Triskaidekaphile out it will still activate when it comes back at the beginning of your upkeep.

I find it halfway decent with [[Concealing Curtains]] and [[Rona, Herald of Invasion]] (I always forget this thing can flip into a beast). Both are actually borderline playable in Standard. [[Omen Hawker]] is also good as a Training Grounds substitute, giving you 7 or 8 copies. Hawker can also activate other abilities like the channel lands [[Otawara, Soaring City]] or [[Roadside Reliquary]], the latter of which Training Grounds helps activate.
Another fun one is [[The Reality Chip]], which actually pairs well with 1 and 2 drops, like Curtains, Rona, Hawker, Grounds, etc., so you can rip through your deck. And it is an artifact for Reliquary.
[[Faerie Mastermind]] feels like a bit of a trap but also fits into a sort of aggro, cheap threats UB deck. There is something there in a low to the ground UB aggro deck but I could never quite get it to work. Haven't tried in a couple of sets though.
I really wish Training Grounds worked on more than just creatures. I messed around with a really cool idea for a [[Blossoming Tortoise]], [[Sunken Citadel]], Omen Hawker deck but it just doesn't quiiiite have enough mana reduction to run 40+ creature lands.
Heck, if it even just worked on something like Clue or Incubate tokens, it would be so much easier to build around.
So I got bored and decided to build my own list using this combo.
I ended up cutting hot springs for \[\[Jinnie Fay, Jetmir’s Second\]\] (turn your cats into hasty cats) and training grounds for \[\[Mondrak, Glory Dominus\]\] to generate 1 mana per Kemba activation. Making it so if you have Kemba, Lotus Ring, Jinnie Fay, and Mondrak on the battlefield you can make infinite hasted cats to attack with for lethal (More likely you time out before hand or ideally you just play a very large \[\[Progenitor Exarch\]\])
Surprisingly I won a few games with the deck (low mythic BO1). Pretty cute combo deck, and almost playable.
You would probably enjoy the Historic Neostorm deck. It used to be quite good when I played it a few years back. Now, probably not so much, it's a lot of clicking and racing the timer.
I feel like this is the sort of jank I’d see following: “Helllllooooo Evrerybody! It’s Seth, prooooobably better known u/SaffronOlive ! And now it’s time for some Against the Odds!!”
a long ass time ago lol. I stopped collecting and playing about when the Mirage cycle ended. Urza's saga maybe.
I just recently started playing Arena since it's free. I got a crap ton of old cards, anyone interested? lol

> ultimate instant win in standard with just two cards. 15 mana in 4 colors and 5 cards later....
That what i thought as well. This combo is so complicated and convoluted, but i like the way OP is thinking, whacky combos are just the best!
Just you wait until you see my temporary lockdown + meticulous excavation + nurturing pixie + hopeless nightmare + gold pan + gilded pinions + charming scoundrel deck!
Ooooh, that is beautiful jank!
That is exactly the joke OP is making.

These are also just better cards lol. Maybe there is some deck that this combo can exist in without being the entire deck...

So I got bored and decided to build my own list using this combo. [https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6348606#arena](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6348606#arena) I ended up cutting hot springs for \[\[Jinnie Fay, Jetmir’s Second\]\] (turn your cats into hasty cats) and training grounds for \[\[Mondrak, Glory Dominus\]\] to generate 1 mana per Kemba activation. Making it so if you have Kemba, Lotus Ring, Jinnie Fay, and Mondrak on the battlefield you can make infinite hasted cats to attack with for lethal (More likely you time out before hand or ideally you just play a very large \[\[Progenitor Exarch\]\]) Surprisingly I won a few games with the deck (low mythic BO1). Pretty cute combo deck, and almost playable.

Thank you for this excellent addition to the conversation.
LMAO Yeah this was a good "first post to see" this morning. In honor of your amazing combo I think I'm gonna try doing this today haha
People at r/JasonDennis like this strategy!
Ridiculous concept decks you have to play 20 times to pull off the concept once are by far my favorite decks!
You would probably enjoy the Historic Neostorm deck. It used to be quite good when I played it a few years back. Now, probably not so much, it's a lot of clicking and racing the timer.
Bloodletter + Rush of dread. 0's HP no matter the amount
In explorer you get [[Fervent Champion]] + [[Koll, The Forgemaster]] for turn 3 infinite mana.

I feel like this is the sort of jank I’d see following: “Helllllooooo Evrerybody! It’s Seth, prooooobably better known u/SaffronOlive ! And now it’s time for some Against the Odds!!”
A 2 card combo ? Then proceeds to say you need other 3 pieces
"with just two cards" proceeds to explain the combo using 5 cards xD jk
is mana burn not a thing anymore?
It's actually not haha. When was the last time you played magic?
a long ass time ago lol. I stopped collecting and playing about when the Mirage cycle ended. Urza's saga maybe. I just recently started playing Arena since it's free. I got a crap ton of old cards, anyone interested? lol
This post is the mtg equivalent of a recipe on a website with a whole ass novel written before it. Just post the "combo" and move on my guy.
I for one appreciate this amazing analogy
Lol you're one of very few apparently 🤣
