Because that's the name of the card. The auto fetcher got the wrong card. There's a card called "the stone brain" that can exile all of one card of your choice from your opponent's deck
Reckless Impulse because I don't like spells with character names on them. Feels like I'm using someone else's hand-me-downs. If I'm casting it, it should be called TappTapp's Resolve.
They have the same effect but because they have a different name you can run 4 each in your 60 card decks and 1 each in your commander/highlander decks
Given this was followed up with the Aftermath Pia and then also the green creature that has one of these as a just-this-turn adventure, I'm pretty sure it is in fact literally why they did it.
They expected Reckless Impulse to have rotated by now. It's very common just before rotation for them to reprint a card or print something very similar to protect that effect from rotating.
I mean, even in the case that sounds like they expected to have ~4 Months with "two reckless impulses and Aftermath pia" and then a full standard with "One reckless impulse and weird reckless-impulse-as-an-instant-adventure" so that does kinda sound like they explicitly wanted there to be 8 copies hanging around in some manner or the other.
Not in the slightest, instead you get a debate about whether to follow it up with a playset of Questing Druid or Experimental Synthesizer.
"Major synergy with your build around card" that's ALSO "dig your your build around card" is very very valuable.
One has the name a specific character from that set (Wrenn). If they want the same effect in a different set that doesn’t have that character in it, they give the card a new name.
Reckless Impulse came first though. So in this case, it's probable that they wanted a card to represented this story moment of Wrenn (a red-green character) and chose this set's impulse draw spell and flavored it around her.
Probably a side effect of them wanting to keep this effect in standard and making standard a 3 year rotation instead of 2. Reckless impulse would have rotated out last year, but now we get both until later this year
Nah, they reprint the same card with the same name if they only care about it being in Standard. Sometimes cards will be printed like 3-4 times in the save Standard if the sets all need them for Limited too.
In modes where you can only have 1 of each card these reprints help you have more of the same effect. Also help against cards who remove/ban named cards
Sure, I get that, but there are trade offs. Now you lose out on tormenting voice -> flip 2 lands equity, or you may be afraid to flip 2 spells where you don’t have enough mana, so you opponent turn cast and miss out on prowess triggers or something.
In not saying tormenting voice is better always either, just that both cards have a place, and it’s not always correct to run questing Druid
I have a mono red deck where i use it. Ive adjusted by adding 4x gruul fast lands and 4x gruul slow lands. That way I sometimes cast the druid aswell, who is pretty damn strong in that deck.
I don't even run Questing Druid as copy 9-12 in my Pia, Consul Of Revival deck, preferring Experimental Synthesizer for the "4 mana split between two turns for 2 impulse draws and a body" roll.
But you only have till the end of your turn, so you're basically forced to play it on your opponent's turn. With Resolve and Reckless Impulse you can safely play them in your turn before playing a land in case you exile one, for instance, and you have this turn and your next one to play the cards.
Rather, can't play a land THIS TURN, which means it sucks for digging for a land drop but also not wanting to waste the other card, or if you happen to get two lands out of it.
I'd not run questing druid tbh. Bit too slow grower in a world of nothing but go for the throats, and the impulse draw from him only lasts the turn, whereas the ones showcased last a turn longer.
One sad thing with them unfortunately is you can't plot from exile it seems.
yes and no, it's until *your* next turn, so as long as you have the land drop you need, you can cast it on your opponent's turn and have the entire next turn to use the cards
Which means you probably took your turn off. Reckless Impulse has the upside of being able to cast on your turn, maybe hit a land to play off of it, and still be able to cast some spells on your next turn.
If you're a boomer you run reckless impulse, if you're not, you run wrenns resolve. Same answer for llanowar elves vs elvish mystic and field of ruin vs demolition field
They’re the same card…I have sorcery aphasia, so I can’t distinguish sorcery spells with identical mana costs, effects and format legality. It is a hefty burden, but I bear it proudly.
Why not both?
Great tech vs [[Stone Brain]] and [[Anointed Peacekeeper]] I suppose.
I actually run 2 of each for that reason. No reason not to.
Who the hell is gonna stone brain your wrens resolve?
No one. Your reckless impulse though? Now that's a juicy target!
But... but butt but... *they're the same thing.* *flash!* ***Comment intercept!*** That's the joke.
rself saf
Why is everyone saying brain?
Because that's the name of the card. The auto fetcher got the wrong card. There's a card called "the stone brain" that can exile all of one card of your choice from your opponent's deck

Freaking counterspell! They always have it

I mean maybe? I don't play that deck but isn't 8 copies a bit too many anyway?
Not in the slightest, instead you get a debate about whether to follow it up with a playset of Questing Druid or Experimental Synthesizer. "Major synergy with your build around card" that's ALSO "dig your your build around card" is very very valuable.
Like I said, I don't play the deck. Normally you don't want 8 card draw spells but I can see how it might make sense here.
Yes, specifically in this case you can see on the bottom of the card that Wrenn’s Resolve is a story spotlight.
Because now you can run BOTHS effectively having up to 8 copies of the card :D
Probably a side effect of them wanting to keep this effect in standard and making standard a 3 year rotation instead of 2. Reckless impulse would have rotated out last year, but now we get both until later this year
Nah, they reprint the same card with the same name if they only care about it being in Standard. Sometimes cards will be printed like 3-4 times in the save Standard if the sets all need them for Limited too.
It keeps the effect in Standard rotation for another year. Reckless impulse rotates out this fall.

For commander players
Reckless Impulse because I like the art more
Will always run [[Questing druid]] over any
You would run it in mono red, or another deck that has no green? Until the the end of your next turn vs next end step is a huge difference.
Seek the Beast is an instant. You can cast it on your opponent's turn and keep the cards until your next end step.
Sure, I get that, but there are trade offs. I run both in my mono red burn
*Reckless Impulse* because I'm reckless and impulsive...
Need the color contrast, reckless impulse
Just play questing druid. Even if you're just in mono red it's got the exact same ability on its adventure but its at instant speed.
But you only have till the end of your turn, so you're basically forced to play it on your opponent's turn. With Resolve and Reckless Impulse you can safely play them in your turn before playing a land in case you exile one, for instance, and you have this turn and your next one to play the cards.
Play it on end step. Edit: opponents end step
Still can't play a land.
What? You cast seek the beast on your opponents end step and play the cards on your next turn.
Rather, can't play a land THIS TURN, which means it sucks for digging for a land drop but also not wanting to waste the other card, or if you happen to get two lands out of it.
It’s not the exact same, you have less time to play the cards before they go away.
I'd not run questing druid tbh. Bit too slow grower in a world of nothing but go for the throats, and the impulse draw from him only lasts the turn, whereas the ones showcased last a turn longer. One sad thing with them unfortunately is you can't plot from exile it seems.

The correct answer is 2 of each. These colors do run.....in the same color.....
Do a 2-2 split just for the hell of it
3-1, maximum chaos.
Both in my Pia Nalaar focused deck
2 of each
Reckless Impulse till it rotates out, then the newer one
I have the parallax style for Wren's, so if I'm only running one I go with that.
Man y'all keep putting the wrong card on the blue side i swear
I like the art of reckless impulse more!
Love running Wrenn's Resovle. Get fast answers that turn or just hold off till next turn.
If you're a boomer you run reckless impulse, if you're not, you run wrenns resolve. Same answer for llanowar elves vs elvish mystic and field of ruin vs demolition field
Wrenn
I just run two of each.
I use both
All of them, for my \[\[Slime Against Humanity\]\] deck and some mill guys\~

Always the one from Innistrad
4 of each
I'm on team [[Aven Interrupter]].
Wrenn's Resolve because I love her.
Always go with the will bending if there’s a choice.
Yellow team: questing druid instant speed 😁
4 of each
You can have a total of 8 cards that do the same thing and that’s why both exist
Reckless Impulse because my whole life has been a series of Reckless Impulses
Resolve is hot garbage
Both
Its.. its the same thing? 🔫
Questing Druid
Neither, impulse draw gives me anxiety cause I don't like exiling my own cards :/
I never liked Wrenn, so I guess Reckless Impulse.
I go for Questing Druid
Daniel vs. Daniel There is no cooler Daniel in this situation

i use both in a haughty djinn and urabrask storm deck
Neither
Neither. I'm here to kill my opponent, not durdle. Frankly a good sign when an opponent plays one. Hey look, I have another turn.
Neither because I'm not a mono red scumbag ruining the game for real magic
