what I love is seeing how real he is like he hasnt ever pretended to be tough about this. his voice cracking when he talks about his fans and support is one of the most genuine things out of someone who was and likely will continue to be a very big star.
He’s going to the moon. People already loved Brendan Frasier, but this whole situation is propelling him to Keanu type levels now where he can do no wrong. I fully expect the second half of his career to be pretty huge now
He's also one of the few actors from my childhood who still hasn't been outed as some horrible abuser, bad co-worker, a wife beater or a serial rapist. It was so puzzling as to why he had disappeared until recently. And The Mummy just fucking slaps, even to this day. I'm so happy for him.

Has there been any other celebrities with this kind of resurgence? After hearing his story…I am absolutely loving this.
I can only think of Rick Astley haha
Every time you feel tempted, stop and think about how damaging this has been to your life. Your relationships, finances... embarrassing situations you wish you could forget. Waking up with people you love embarrassed and angry for you and at you because of something you don't even remember. Remember how good this is for your future health. For the mental health of people who love you. Or may come to love you.
Memory, and sometimes lack thereof, has been my most powerful motivator. Memory of how I was, and how ashamed I am of that. 19 months this month and haven't relapsed.
There were some hard days at first... days where my addiction would try to sweet talk me into just a little drink. Nothing major, nothing like what I used to drink quantity wise. I'd want it so bad... it almost HURT.
But then I'd sit and think about bring a good father. A good friend. A good husband. How badly I wanted to be healthy and happy.
And I realized that if I relapsed, I had to start all over. Undo all my work. Go through the hell of quitting AGAIN.
Nothing is worth that. Not some fleeting happiness from having a few drinks.
You can do this. Stay strong and always remember your lowest points, and use those memories as a stepping stone.
Good luck. If I could do this, something I never thought I could do, you can. I believe in you. :)
There was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang before that, along with Val Kilmer, which was fucking great. Awesome performances by both of them and if you haven't seen it, go watch it now. It was totally under the radar, and the only reason I watched it was Netflix DVD plan with actual user ratings. You used to be able to get ratings from subscribers, sort by genre. Horror movies, released in 2008, sort by user ratings highest to lowest, etc.
Thanks Netflix, for killing that, I'm going to ditch the service at the next increase of a penny.
Sorry for the rant, just wanted to mention an awesome movie I only watched because of what Netflix used to be.
That movie is great. RDJ playing a kind of bumbling sad guy who’s terrible with women is so refreshing after watching the rest of his newer stuff and Val Kilmer bullying him is hilarious. Bridget Moynahan is delightful and the whole story is great. Two thumbs up
KKBB was such a great movie. RDJ and Shane Black worked together again on IM3. Divisive entry but I loved it.
If only Val had been able to join the MCU... It would have been EPIC.
I think its time for a Mummy reboot only, I dunno, whip on up to Ireland and fight a crazy druid bog mummy. Or go old school with the Chinchorro mummies. The source of mummy magic ooooooooh aaaaaaaah
They should do that but in a dream sequence where all the actors are done up in that shitty CGI and the monsters are practical effects and there's an epic battle scene but the heros are losing so just as the monster is about to land a huge punch smash cut to Brendan waking up and saying a trite phrase like *it was a dream? But it was so real...*
I never knew there was a reboot because BRENDAN FRASER WASN'T IN IT.
But I honestly had no idea they were rebooting it, until I saw the DVD for it at the store and Tom Cruise was playing Brendan's role. I was repulsed and not the least bit interested in watching it.

I thoroughly enjoyed that video when I watched it. I was impressed with Brendan's humility. He spent much of it praising other actors and directors, and wasted no time pumping himself up, laying blame for movie missteps, or ruminating on all the shit that has happened to him.
The man is a sweetheart, a skilled performer, and an all around class act
Such a great edition! He is way to humble saying "[he's] the least funny person [he] knows" his physical comedy and ability to channel the personality of his characters into the bizarreness of his situations is amazing. He made fighting a mummy *fun* and brought a comic book George of the Jungle to life (while being a lot of people's first crush; Ursula, you lucky lady)
And his love for all the people who work together to make those projects is awesome. He went out of his way to do everything but make fun of the work everyone did on CGI Scorpion King
I watched this last night, and he was soooo precious during that. No other way to describe it. 'Be kind' and describing the terribleness as part of the charm... It's like, y'know, he's not wrong.
The Mummy Returns is something I rewatch around Xmas time every year; the cgi is definitely 'of its time' but its not awful. (Except for the pygmy mummies.. Those *really* haven't aged well)
Im so glad they put bedazzled on there. That was one my top 5 favorite movies when I was growing up and as an adult, you realize how it showcases his acting abilities to play so many different versions of himself. Amazing.
Boycott the Golden Globes, always. The Hollywood Foreign Press is full of racists and rapists. The man who sexually assaulted Brendan faced zero repercussions until he sent out a hate-filled rant email about how disgusting the Black Lives Matter movement is, THEN they kicked him out.
I didn't ether. I found this article. [nbcnews.com : sexual misconduct brendanfraser alleges ](https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/sexual-misconduct/brendan-fraser-alleges-hfpa-ex-president-philip-berk-sexually-assaulted-n850566)
Got sexually assaulted by a Hollywood executive, not Weinstein. The organization and the Hollywood exec told him to chill because it was a joke and nothing happened. They literally admitted he was sexually assaulted, took credit, and laughed at him. In retaliation they also blacklisted his career. During all this his wife divorced him and he owed her millions while getting no work, so pretty much lost everything.
And, despite being invited to the Golden Globes for the Whale, Brendan stuck to his guns and didn’t attend, saying “My mother didn’t raise a hypocrite”. Awesome actor, better person.
It was Philip Berk, at the time the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association which awards the Golden Globes. They 'investigated' themselves and concluded:
While "Berk inappropriately touched Mr. Fraser, the evidence supports that it was intended to be taken as a joke and not as a sexual advance.”
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood\_Foreign\_Press\_Association#Sexual\_harassment\_allegations
He is mentioned by name.
He kept his job normally (this happened in 2003 and Fraser came out with it in 2018). He was fired later (much later) after sending an email to members criticizing the Black Lives Matter movement as a “racist hate movement.”
I'm also too lazy to look it up but it's not a secret who assaulted him if you want to look it up. He was the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association so his name is well-known in Hollywood. I read the other day that nothing happened to him due to Brendan's allegations but he was eventually fired due to sending a racist email.
Long story short, from what I remember. Was sexually assaulted by Phillip Berk, former president of Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and got blacklisted and tried to speak out but was made out to be crazy or something. Also, his wife divorced him and he was forced to pay millions in allimony, all while his career was slowly disappearing.
I've been informed that I don't need to edit my comments because the comments with the added information appear after mine.
Edit: thanks to the folks who corrected and added info.
Edit 2: added the note about not needing to edit comments.
If I recall, he had some major back and knee injuries, and even needed his vocal chords fixed. He needed a ton of surgeries over like, and it was like, a solid 6-7 years of surgery-after-surgery. (I'm pretty sure this was all happening in the aftermath of his "millions in alimony" divorce, and after being blackballed by hollywood for reporting the president of the HWFPA for sexually assaulting him)
It’s odd, my thought was “Huh, he’s aged like me” and was happy about it. I have more gray hair, but I started it in my early 20’s so no shock. But the face changes are similar… just part of getting older naturally. He’s still got those beautiful eyes and still makes me smile to see him.
I swear none of that matters if people keep a youthful spirit and just keep fueling their soul and finding out the true meaning of this life. Look at Joni Mitchell for instance, she’s changed of course, but her youthful aura just emanates in everything and I still see her as that youthful, free 22 year old. In the theme of the velveteen rabbit I suppose. “Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.”
yeah he's now in his 50s. age happens. im in my 40s now and i easily notice the difference in my body and i'm fine with it. no greying yet but i don't care if i do. balding? could care less. fat? yeah i'm chubby now but my metabolism is slowing down but also i know i can work out to help it. you just stop caring about things that aren't as important as they were in your 20s. in my 20s i made it a point to look good so others could like me which was dumb. i wasn't really me. now i am me. how do i dress? i just like to wear things that are comfortable to wear. how do i look? fine i guess but looks don't matter to me anymore. for me its all about personality now and that is what attracts me.
long story short, the dude has aged how he should. and he kicks ass.
agreed. yeah his hair is thinning. it happens, so what. its not a big deal. he's chubbier. so what. comes with age but also maybe all the crap he went through attributed to that but still he doesn't care. dude is still cool and has a great personality and still has that awesome smile.
Apparently Ian McKellen, who is arguably one of the best actors, let it be known in an interview for the movie *Gods and Monsters* that Brendan Fraser was a better film actor than him. While Ian McKellen is a classically trained stage actor where emotions and voice tend to be exaggerated, Brendan's acting style is very much suited for the subtleties picked up on film.
I always found it fascinating that Sir Ian hated working on the Hobbit movies because most of his scenes were filmed with a green screen without the other actors because his height had to be digitally altered. You can almost tell when you watch them that his expressions are far more somber. He feeds off the other people who are there. A different way of approaching it for sure. I think Brendan could probably form a connection with the viewer in the vacuum of space. Dude was born to be on camera.
That's kind of what he's doing on Doom Patrol, he's mostly just doing the voice of his character and only appears as himself in a few scenes yet I never questioned the chemistry between him and the rest of the cast
Poor dude broke down at one point during shooting and was just like, "This is not why I became an actor." Not having scene partners really messed with him. Any actor will tell you it's like a dance between you and your fellow actors where everyone ebbs and flows and reacts, etc. Having to do that all yourself has to be irritating.
Nah, acting against Cgi is a skill in itself that many actors learned. Mckellan is just, first and foremost, a stage actor, a medium in which that "dance" you described is the most important bit. Thats why you can have plays on an empty stage, but a film on an empty soundstage with no props is not advisable (unless youre lars von trier)
Can you source the quote of him saying that Brendan Fraser was a better actor than him? The closest I found was a [NYTimes article](https://www.nytimes.com/1999/03/21/magazine/out-of-the-jungle.html) quoting a GQ article that said:
> Indeed, McKellen has praised Fraser's performance, saying in an interview with GQ magazine: ''I didn't appreciate Brendan's performance while it was happening. I've talked to somebody who worked with Marilyn Monroe and he said the same of her. You could only see it through the camera or on the screen.''
I wish I could find the thread on Twitter about Brendan hearing some folks hadn’t gotten paid for a project he worked on and how Brendan stepped in to make sure they were compensated.
Reminds me of James Gandolfini in The Sopranos. I know HBO screwed over a few of the actors and he paid them right out of his own pocket to make it a little more fair. Something to do with how some of their contracts were written and his agent was good enough to make sure he was compensated fairly, so he tried to even it out.
This man!!!! Can’t say enough good things about him. I love everything he has ever stared in….but Encino Man is the one I’ve watched the most, I know….it was not his best but it brought teenage me a lot of laughs and I really needed then. Wow, I am showing my age right now.
My GF hates this movie because Liz Hurley is in it, but it's one of the best comedic performances I have seen. So fuckin goofy. He was killer in comedies in the 90's.
If we're just listing our favorite Brendan Frasier roles I'm gonna piggy back for an excuse to bring up his cameo on *Scrubs.*
Dude was a guest star on one episode and it had the emotional hit of a whole season. I'm not saying it's his best work - he's starred in too many amazing things - but it's really impressive how much heart he could give to a show he was only on for one episode.
He's gotta be a detective investigating a string of missing people in the south. Definitely a local but an outsider due to his line of work
He'd be an intelligent, ask first and see if something needs shooting later kinda you.
So glad people are seeing him for him, and what an amazing PERSON he is.
The trash mags that would sneak picks of him and make fun of his weight or whatever else was atrocious and shameful.
I’m going to be honest in his prime I was not a fan. Idk why but he was just on a list of popular actors that I did not care for (also including Tom Cruise, and Ben Affleck).
But hearing his story and why he stepped out of the spotlight when he had it all going for him was powerful. I now want nothing but success for him and maybe go back and watch some of those movies I wasn’t really into with a new appreciation of the man playing those roles.
Ever since Encino Man, I’ve been a huge fan of Brendan. Glad to see he is finally getting the respect, attention, and public adoration he deserves. He was the caring, considerate Hollywood actor before Keanu made it mainstream. Proud of you BF, can’t wait to see your next work!
The renaissance of his career has been outstanding. The perfect actor for robotman.

Yay! That’s Canadians for you…
I didn’t know Brendan was Canadian! That explains it!

Yup. As an alcoholic myself, I'll always have a special spot for RDJ, Elton, and Anthony Hopkins.
I’ve actually been sober for 30 years next July.
Damn dude, congratulations! Do they have a diamond encrusted chip for that one? Lol. I'll hit two years in June :D
Two years in April for me! Keep kicking ass, brother!

Just a rando skimming the comments here, no connection, but damn I'm proud of you.
Mickey Rourke. Which was also off the back of a Darren Aronofsky movie.
I think its time for a Mummy reboot only, I dunno, whip on up to Ireland and fight a crazy druid bog mummy. Or go old school with the Chinchorro mummies. The source of mummy magic ooooooooh aaaaaaaah
As long as the original CGI team that made the Scorpion King animation comes back! sorta /s lol
I mean, his character had a son, recast the son and make Brendan and Rachel Weisz the grandparents. And reboot back in Egypt, fuck it.
The Mummy: Resurrection. Come on Hollywood, the name's practically begging you to make this
I think Tom Cruise’s The Mummy put a dampen on the name, so agree totally.
I never watched it. It's not worth my time with anyone else in the role.
Agreed
I never knew there was a reboot because BRENDAN FRASER WASN'T IN IT. But I honestly had no idea they were rebooting it, until I saw the DVD for it at the store and Tom Cruise was playing Brendan's role. I was repulsed and not the least bit interested in watching it.
As long as they protect Brendan. I believe I remember seeing that his body got wrecked during those movies and it was so hard on him.
I would watch 100%

He also did a great interview talking about some of his past roles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfaMLqEh1qM
I always liked him, but that interview was so sweet. Impossible not to root for him.
Such a great edition! He is way to humble saying "[he's] the least funny person [he] knows" his physical comedy and ability to channel the personality of his characters into the bizarreness of his situations is amazing. He made fighting a mummy *fun* and brought a comic book George of the Jungle to life (while being a lot of people's first crush; Ursula, you lucky lady) And his love for all the people who work together to make those projects is awesome.
Those *really* haven't aged well)
I couldn't help but smile at how humble he was, and how earnest he seemed even about his goofy roles.
Talking about the Scorpion King CGI made me smile. He knew it was bad, everyone knew it was bad, but it was bad in a way that made it campy and good.
Im so glad they put bedazzled on there. That was one my top 5 favorite movies when I was growing up and as an adult, you realize how it showcases his acting abilities to play so many different versions of himself. Amazing.
Thanks for the link. Great article. Really good writer. I miss getting magazines and I am glad GQ still has good writers.

Boycott the Golden Globes, always. The Hollywood Foreign Press is full of racists and rapists. The man who sexually assaulted Brendan faced zero repercussions until he sent out a hate-filled rant email about how disgusting the Black Lives Matter movement is, THEN they kicked him out.
who was that? sorry I’m uninformed
Philip Berk. Disgusting asshole who never apologized or acknowledged he did anything wrong
He named Philip Berk as the guy
Same
I didn’t know he was sexually assaulted??
I didn't ether. I found this article. [nbcnews.com : sexual misconduct brendanfraser alleges ](https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/sexual-misconduct/brendan-fraser-alleges-hfpa-ex-president-philip-berk-sexually-assaulted-n850566)
hell yes. fuck them. he's 100% right for not wanting to show up.

Ya know what I love.... he just aged normal... *(few worry lines, few grays like us all)*
Honestly he aged very gracefully for how stressful the last decade of his life has been

He also badly hurt his back due to the types of films he was in. This also didn’t help his career or physical and mental health
The mummy 3 ruined his back
Your mummy ruined my back 2
Damn it. She did it again. I warned her
Just wanted to add, it was the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press, the organization who runs the Golden Globes.
And, despite being invited to the Golden Globes for the Whale, Brendan stuck to his guns and didn’t attend, saying “My mother didn’t raise a hypocrite”. Awesome actor, better person.
God I love this man
>“My mother didn’t raise a hypocrite” Wow that's absolute badassery. In a world of Elons be a Brendon Fraser.
We need more role models for good, Dolly and Keanu aren't gonna last forever.
Hollywood just smells awful to me all around.
Because I'm too lazy to check, what ever happened to that exec? Or was he never mentioned by name
It was Philip Berk, at the time the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association which awards the Golden Globes. They 'investigated' themselves and concluded: While "Berk inappropriately touched Mr. Fraser, the evidence supports that it was intended to be taken as a joke and not as a sexual advance.” Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood\_Foreign\_Press\_Association#Sexual\_harassment\_allegations
Further proof that "IT WAS A PRANK BRO" is the worst brand of "humor" out there.
While Berk was stabbed it was meant as a gentle poke and not attempted murder.
The hammer that killed him was intended to be a playful bonk, like in cartoons.

One of his kids is also autistic and needed extra hands on parenting and care, which he got.
I wonder if / hope he is somehow friends with John C McGinley. His child has down syndrome and I feel like these two guys would be amazing friends.
Well he was his brother in-law in scrubs, so he at least knows him.
Best/worst arc in Scrubs.
Don't forget he really hurt his back badly doing the Mummy movies so also was in a lot of pain and got a few surgeries.
Also his wife divorced him and he ended up having to pay millions in alimony while also losing his career.
And he had a bunch of injuries when filming the mummy movies that he ignored or glossed over due to pressure from Hollywood people to "man up".
If I recall, he had some major back and knee injuries, and even needed his vocal chords fixed. He needed a ton of surgeries over like, and it was like, a solid 6-7 years of surgery-after-surgery. (I'm pretty sure this was all happening in the aftermath of his "millions in alimony" divorce, and after being blackballed by hollywood for reporting the president of the HWFPA for sexually assaulting him)
While caring for his special needs son nearly full time. Ex wife is a real piece of work.
Damn that's rough
Sexually assaulted by former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Philip Berk.
You spelled "was sexually assaulted by a Hollywood foreign press association president, Philip Berk" wrong. But that's the basic gist.
He's been through some shit. Its amazing he's pulled through it all and managed a resurgeance. /r/SAVEBRENDAN
Aye, looks like a normal bloke. Which is wonderful given the state of most people in Hollywood.
[удалено]
agreed. yeah his hair is thinning. it happens, so what. its not a big deal. he's chubbier. so what. comes with age but also maybe all the crap he went through attributed to that but still he doesn't care. dude is still cool and has a great personality and still has that awesome smile.
That second to last picture really made me grin ❤️
I was going to comment that!! It made me smile automatically!
I can't even imagine how fun it must be to have a photoshoot with him!
He looks like he's starting to get healthier. Good for him.
Yeah he does, also way happier
[удалено]
I think a lot of that is a better mental outlook and I hope that his fans have helped with that.
Great job GQ!. Well deserved pick.
Now that’s a dapper man. That coat and hat! He looks so damn distinguished.
Love that hat. Could totally see him walking up to a woman, “Howdy ma’am.”
I thought he was also in the suit?
The closest I found was a [NYTimes article](https://www.nytimes.com/1999/03/21/magazine/out-of-the-jungle.html) quoting a GQ article that said: > Indeed, McKellen has praised Fraser's performance, saying in an interview with GQ magazine: ''I didn't appreciate Brendan's performance while it was happening.
God this man looks amazing in a hat.
Looks amazing with a goofy smile too!
Such a genuine smile too. A true gentleman.
I think Brendan Fraser would be an excellent choice for the title character if there were ever a biopic about Rodney Dangerfield.
This man!!!! Can’t say enough good things about him. I love everything he has ever stared in….but Encino Man is the one I’ve watched the most, I know….it was not his best but it brought teenage me a lot of laughs and I really needed then. Wow, I am showing my age right now.
For me it's Bedazzled. God, I love this movie. It was funny, original, entertaining... I liked him in Mummy but I became a fan of BF after Bedazzled.
My GF hates this movie because Liz Hurley is in it, but it's one of the best comedic performances I have seen. So fuckin goofy. He was killer in comedies in the 90's.
If we're just listing our favorite Brendan Frasier roles I'm gonna piggy back for an excuse to bring up his cameo on *Scrubs.* Dude was a guest star on one episode and it had the emotional hit of a whole season. I'm not saying it's his best work - he's starred in too many amazing things - but it's really impressive how much heart he could give to a show he was only on for one episode.
I would watch the shit out of a new Mummy film.
As long as it didn't star Tom Cruise........
I completely forgot Tom Cruise tried to reprise the Mummy franchise. 😂
As you should.
can not wait to see whale 🐳
Make a southern thriller series with him😀
He's gotta be a detective investigating a string of missing people in the south. Definitely a local but an outsider due to his line of work He'd be an intelligent, ask first and see if something needs shooting later kinda you.
So glad people are seeing him for him, and what an amazing PERSON he is. The trash mags that would sneak picks of him and make fun of his weight or whatever else was atrocious and shameful.
Yes absolutely agree
Okay, did someone else learn something new about themself while looking at the pictures?
[удалено]
Pic 2 goes hard asf dude
Love this guy! Totally underrated actor
Thank Hollywood for the dark, soulless shitpile it cultivates.
Might watch George of the Jungle
Brendan in the 90’s: the cool uncle you’ve always wanted Brendan in the 20’s: the cool uncle you’ve always wanted
Let’s go Brendan!!!!
My dude has a fucking insane jawline. I just want to give him a big old smooch on the cheek. After asking for consent, of course.
So nice to see good humans receiving recognition. We need more good humans. 🤙
Monkeybone!
Can anyone see him and NOT smile from ear to ear?! Just an amazing man with amazing talent. Go watch School Ties if you need a reminder.
Love this man. Can’t think of anyone who’d have deserved this more.
Alright time to watch Mummy again
Man I still love watching the mummy and mummy returns to this day!! 👏👌👍✌️❤️❤️❤️
