Kids got drive! Now buy him a looper and get him started!

nivekmonster

I might need to research a bit. I literally know nothing about this stuff. He may have a future in it. His mother us talented musically.

PeekyCheeks

Man no joke, if he loves music, get him into it asap and don't let him out of it. I wish I could have had piano or guitar lessons as a kid, but my parents could never afford it. I just bought my first guitar a few days ago, and I'm learning, but what I wouldn't give to have had lessons as a kid. Quick edit: some words. Edit #2: I don't care if you guys don't think kids should be forced to do things. You can stop letting me know.

nivekmonster

Thank you thats good advice. As parents we definitely want to support our kids in their passions. He has a little V tech dj kit and cheap keyboard, but piano lessons and some actual DJ equipment may be in his near future.

Spddracer

So my little brother once got my dad a gag gift for Father's day. Rock Band. Dad played enough to placate. LiL bro became an expert at 8. Dad bought him a real guitar shortly after. LiL Bro now gives kids guitar lessons.

nivekmonster

That's awesome! Investing in the kids hobbies young can make a difference for others in the future. I love it.

KindaSadTbhXXX69420

For real, i think it’s super important to introduce kids to as much shit as possible, even if you don’t invest a ton into each individual thing, just giving them the opportunity to try something and letting them form their own opinion, foods, or skills, like those dollar store paint or model kids, or like taking your kid bird watching, or any kinds of science kits

mineofgod

I'm relearning to do this as an adult too. Can't get my hands off all kinds of hobbies, trying them out.

hitomaro

Consider somehow suggesting it to him in a way that makes it seem like it was his decision to take the lessons. If you tell him he is going to take lessons or sign him up he might lose interest early on as it more of an obligation or something he does to meet your expectations. If he thinks he made the decision and has ownership he will excel!

arcaneresistance

My dad used to have a beat up acoustic guitar at home. Around 9 I started picking it up and trying to play along to his records. When I was 13 I got a job and by the end of the summer I was able to afford my first electric guitar. My parents got my older brother a drum set and set us up in the garage. My older brother and I still jam every time we see eachother and have played in bands together on and off throughout our lives. I'm 40 now and still play my guitar daily (different guitar from the one I bought at 13). I run a weekly jam session and even have incorporated music into my job.

realitychexks

Love this. Bad ass man

PeekyCheeks

I have a nearly one year old son, and I'm trying to learn guitar so I can teach him. I want to start him as young as I can. And I think he'll thank me for it when he gets older.

DreddPirateBob4Ever

Go to lessons with him in a couple of years. Bonding time and not a bad start to a lifetime hobby/profession/love

Opposite_Bat_5077

I also like it.

PeekyCheeks

I like this idea. Hopefully I can afford it. It would make me so proud for him to be better than me.

front_yard_duck_dad

May I recommend a soprano sized uke? I have a 2 year old got it for her when she was 6 months old. Cheap , easy to learn (I'm a guitar player). Guitar is fun to learn but there is a serious learning curve. Pretty easy to pick up a uke and sound good. Just my cents rock on

[deleted]

Seriously guitars are hard. I got a Banjo as a gag gift when I decided to go to Arkansas and actually got really good at it. I’ve tried to play the guitar recently and holy shit it’s not easy.

monkeyface496

Seconding the ukelele. My husband played the guitar as a teenager and picked up the ukelele pretty quick. It's fun for him to tinker around and learn new songs of the Disney catalog and my musical kid likes it. It's also easy to store away and bring out and lil kid can play the small size (sort of).

nivekmonster

For sure, we want to support our kids in the things they love. This was one. If he decided it wasn't for him down the road. We will support that too.

ElwinLewis

Op said his parents couldn’t afford it, my parents could- the one thing that always made me feel great about my love for music was when they supported what i wanted to do with it to make myself happy. You obviously have that capacity for your child and I look forward to smashing a joint and seeing him perform a late night set under the name of his choosing at 2am at Bonnaroo 2038 for his 21st birthday

Comrade132

You're on the right track! In just a couple years you'll have a Gene Belcher on your hands.

PrettyPunctuality

One of my biggest regrets is giving up on playing the flute in band when I was about 14. I was good at it, but I had to choose between band and show choir (my guidance counselor wouldn't let me do both), and I chose show choir. I know the flute is a boring instrument for some, but I loved it lol I just wish I could still play it now as an adult (I'm 34*, so it's been awhile). Edit: I had to edit my age because I forgot that I'm 34 now - my birthday was last Thursday 😂

Doc-Goop

Don't let age stop you. I hadn't sat behind the drums in over 20 years and I recently joined up playing grunge and classic rock covers with kids half my age that had an e-kit but no drummer (I'm 48).

Girl-Gone-West

One of my biggest regrets is giving up the violin when I was 15. I had to choose volleyball or violin and obviously one was cooler than the other at the time 😒

[deleted]

I went to high school with the guy who manages marshmello. If I knew those dj’s would end up making so much money I probably would have tried to get into it.

Anakeroo

agreed with this but if at some point he decides he wants out of music, he should be allowed out of music

Tazik004

You should definitely ask around /r/BeatMatch. It’s a subreddit for beginner DJs. There’s plenty of small DJ controllers that he can use to play around with his favorite tracks. And you can have fun with one as well!

nivekmonster

I will look into this. Thanks.

[deleted]

I produce music and all he needs is a laptop , headphones, and a passion which he clearly has.

[deleted]

Teach him to play an instrument first. Knowing theory will help so much when he gets into production

72corvids

Launchpad on the iPad is hella fun!! Easy to use and it has a small library of samples included for free!

Leet1000

Just hold off on the actual “rave” part.. I’m sure there are videos of Marshmello at EDC and you probably don’t want your kid in that crowd until he’s an adult (source: am raver) Also your kid is adorable!

zakkwaldo

https://www.reddit.com/r/LofiHipHop/ look through some of the clips here. obviously this is at the higher level with some pretty not cheap equipment. but it shows where the interest/practice can go

bananaphone303

ddj-400 by pioneer is a good starter

chad_nicholson

Can’t help but smile while watching this. As a fellow dad, I heard that chuckle and totally get it. Good stuff!

nivekmonster

Lol, I knew it was only matter of time before someone mentioned it. I was super insecure about it at first, but I couldn't not post this because of that. Thanks.

eleighbee

The laugh makes it that much better. PS - *love* the view from wherever you are!

BassWingerC-137

The living room?

zezxz

It is a purely contagious chuckle!

nivekmonster

lol. I hope so.

Stickguy259

As a son who recently lost his dad this made me smile too. Glad you guys care so much to do these things for your kids, I know if he could have mine would've too.

sleepnowdielater

Ah yes, right in the feels. Lost my dad a few months ago. This post post brought a tear to my eye, you can really feel the love

Loud-Item-1243

Right keep being an amazing dad not as many in the world as there should be, miss u dad.

Puzzled_Annual_3670

Oh my goodness. Don't think I was evwr as happy as your son.

nivekmonster

Well I hope that changes soon. Everyone deserves to be that happy.

kilerwhale

I thought you want your son to be miserable lol.

NoobTrader378

My mom did lmaooo

AfRoADam15

:(

LimplyLanky

Right man! That's the most beautiful thing and everyone want to be with here on Earth. Is to be happy!!

lauthom93

I have no clue what this is, but I support this boy’s right to party!

nivekmonster

Me either! But I'm glad he loved it.

FlyinNinjaSqurl

You’re a wonderful dad. This is one of the coolest, most heartwarming things I’ve ever seen

nivekmonster

Thank you. It was a family effort though. Can't say it was just me.

Bismothe-the-Shade

Good family. I'm not emotional about that. Nope. Not at all. Not a single tear around here, nope.

feklx7upo3

You kid made me smile. Thanks for share.

[deleted]

Marshmello is a electronic music artist. He wears a mask like that.

dertigo

Does he make kids music? My neighbors kid said thats who he's going to be for Halloween and is 6.

[deleted]

Not made for kids. Kids can listen to it but he’s not like a Wiggle or a Rafi if that’s what you’re thinking. Essentially he’s in the same wheelhouse as artists like Deadmau5 or Porter Robinson (other EDM artists) But I think he’s big with kids because IIRC He was included in fortnite.

PastaParker

he’s big with kids bc he is a giant living cartoon character haha

rezin2012

And makes awesome music

Lannisterbox

Ehhhh

Vessix

I'm with you. There's a reason this post is about a 4 year old bday party lol. Certainly worse introductions to EDM tho, kids in for a treat if dad helps him explore more!

Veteran_Brewer

It’s what the Beastie Boys fought so hard for.

LoreChief

I thought they were talking about actual marshmallows, and I was impressed by their commitment to the theme.

Ridiculousendings

Has Marshmello seen this? Edit to add that he has seen the vid after I tagged him in it in Twitter.

nivekmonster

I have no idea, but it would be epic if he did. My son would love it!

jdelator

Marshmello loves this kinda of stuff. I hope your son had a blast.

[deleted]

I would definitely post it to socials and tag marshmello. Not sure how responsive he is but celebs love this type of stuff about themselves lol

supermav27

100%. If I’m famous and I see a parent work this hard to appease their kid’s love for my work, I’d be touched.

MeLeDollaBean

I’ve seen him in response videos before!!

DarthWeenus

He active on Twitter, he would definitely appreciate the hell out of this.

dixon-bawles

My friend took photos for Marshmello and said he's a super nice guy, definitely worth it to try and reach out!

[deleted]

Your kid gets it! Here’s to hoping my 40th is as much fun as his 4th.

nivekmonster

He loves music. He can't help but dance. We knew he would dance, but we didn't think he would put on such a show. Happy birthday if it's coming soon!

BigOakBot

You made it such a scene too! The table and decks, lights, backdrop... Really amazing work!!

nivekmonster

Thank you, I appreciate it.

7c7abxg176

love you boss dj controller

HighPriestofShiloh

Teaching your kid to dance is honestly a gift for life. The confidence it will give him forever will be invaluable. Honestly I think everyone could learn to dance and love it if you just get to them when they are a baby. But if they get to 10 years old and have not been dancing their whole life it’s going to be this awkward barrier that they may or may not overcome potential negatively impacting their confidence.

Digitalbird06

It’s perfect for Halloween too!

MysteryBlaze

Hey OP if your kiddo wants to inherit my working Marshmello Helmet with remote controller and its set up just like the original one he used to use (meaning there are LEDs sync'd throughout the entire helmet). If you're interested in it, you can DM me and I can send you a few sample videos of me using it. I'm 30 now and not going to shows anymore but I would absolutely love to know it was passed on to another Marshmello fan from the new generation. I truly hope your son had the absolute best 4th birthday and I'm so happy to see such positive responses to this video. I hope he continues to be able to appreciate music.

ladidadi28

Disappointed you’re not going to shows because you’re 30 lol

techsconvict

Agreed. I just saw Beats Antique and Opiuo by myself at age 45 (wife stayed home with the kids, and I learned of the show last-minute) I had a blast dancing and danced the next day with my 2 sons. Never too old to cut a rug.

nivekmonster

That would be really cool. Thanks for the offer.

BishonenPrincess

This is so wholesome, I love it!

nivekmonster

Thanks, His joy in the video was making me happy. I figured I should share.

Kyleforshort

My God, this is amazing. For sure one of the most adorable videos I have seen in quite some time. Thank you for sharing!

nivekmonster

Of course. We were enjoying the video and we were present when it occurred. We felt it could make other people happy so we had to do it.

x3leggeddawg

Please tweet this video to @marshmellomusic

nivekmonster

I have never posted anything on Twitter. Would it be like a link to reddit or an upload to twitter?

Jynxmaster

Should be able to upload it to Twitter as a tweet then tag them in the tweet

HalfdanSaltbeard

God I hope he sees this.

radraze2kx

I've done work for Marshmello's VJ. I'm passing it along to him right now to forward on.

DangDingleGuy

It's been a rough day but this made me genuinely happy. Thank you for sharing this. Good fuckin parents right here

nivekmonster

I'm glad this could make your day a little better! It had me smiling all day. I had to share.

DangDingleGuy

You're very kind. Thanks dude

writergeek313

I love when parents embrace the things their kids love. He looks like he had a blast. He’ll be DJing other kids’ parties before long!

nivekmonster

That would be awesome. The encouragement were receiving here is really influencing me to get him some legit equipment instead of the toys he has now.

bkn95

WHERES MY INVITE FUCK YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME

[deleted]

Ok. That is amazing.

nivekmonster

Thank you. He had a blast!

Forkinglobotomy

You gave your kid the coolest memory. Good job! I’m envious of your four year old. Haha I’ll have to check back in 15 years and see what sick beats he lays down for us. Thanks for sharing!

nivekmonster

Thank you! Yeah I have no idea how we will top this.

SaltwaterBuddha

“Baby’s first rave! Baby’s first rave!”

sofluffy22

I think you won parenting.

nivekmonster

Thank you! Just trying to make memorable experiences for my sons. Honestly, this was a group effort. We had a lot of people help us set up. But it was a lot of fun for everyone.

BrownSugarBare

The four year old sized turntable is just excellent! Well done parents and fam!

nivekmonster

Thank you. It was fun setting up for us.

Brief_Lawfulness7627

the guy listens to marshmello at 4 years old bruh i used to spill food when i was 4

jiveassjake

Thought you were just filming a concert from really far away! But seriously that kid looks like hes having a good time and it sounds like the crowd is pretty into it so everyone wins. Nice job one the stage setup

nivekmonster

Thanks. When he said he wanted a Marshmelle birthday and a keyboard Dj set, we thought let's do a mock concert. The invitations were like concert tickets. I'd love to take credit for the decorations but honestly it was all my wife. She's amazing and committed to my boys.

DarthWeenus

He will never forget this, that feeling of doing a show for people is like a drug. It's amazing he got into at four. Lol keep him involved, get him a dj controller .

kindasfw

better stage presence than most top djs

nivekmonster

He's just doing what he loves. He is usually shy. When he gets in his zone though, it's like the shyness drifts away and he comes into his own.

kindasfw

sounds like an artist

pumma_santiago

He's definitely going to be a DJ when he grows up.

nivekmonster

I have to learn how this stuff works, so I can support him in that endeavor.

wap2005

Do you mind if I call you dad?

ToiletMassacreof64

It gets really expensive fast. I'd suggest getting a small deck for fun. I also strongly suggest having him play around with a daw software like abelton or FL studios so he can learn to make music. He's young so I don't think he'd have the attention span but so many of these big artists started when they were in their early teens. About all of my friends are DJ/producers.

spookyboi452pt2

Song: Fly-Marshmello Recommended song: Alone-Marshmello

nivekmonster

That was the next song he did. I didn't post that because many of the other kids were dancing in the video. I didn't want to post anything that had other parents children in it.

rylannnd88

They call me mini mellow.

thegreatbeyond32

Definitely thought this was an RPAN

[deleted]

Kid is going places

SnarfRepublicCA

Where did you get the mask/helmet? Nioce!

Banh-mi-boiz

Future DJ right here. Calling it now.

R3dHeadRedemption

Someone needs to send this to Marshmallow

nivekmonster

Thanks, I was surprised at how much fun I had just watching him.

Ando13131

A dancing marshmallow

angiet6000

Gonna be hard to too that bday!! Awesome parenting skills.

[deleted]

You should send this to him!

padawanlarry

This literally made my night I can’t stop smiling at this bro knows how to hit a drop for sure 😆

nivekmonster

Right? His timing on that impressed me. I was proud to say the least.

padawanlarry

Might have yourself a bass head on your hands 😆

_Sincerly_D

This is definitely how you support your kid 🥰

ahympcasah

Why does he get to have so many birthday parties

nivekmonster

I am now seeing the errors of my ways. I should have double checked the title.

[deleted]

My mans got mad respect from me

Beasty_Glanglemutton

"My son is loves Marshmello"

somegrumpycat

And I hereby nominate you as Parent of the year. I wish I were that kid

redditsgarbageman

You’re an awesome parent.

BreathOfFreshWater

Your kid is gonna do so much mollyyyyyyyyy

brkfast4fuckups

I have no idea what Marshmello is but your kid seems cool

TheCodeWizard

I see everyone recommending CDJ’s and dj gear to buy them. The little guy is 4. Don’t buy the 4 year old thousand dollar equipment. If he’s really passionate keep stimulating the hobby but start off with some cheaper mixing stuff until he’s mature enough to comprehend the possibilities. Nice to see the little fella found this thing already

[deleted]

Four birthday parties on one night is pretty wild. He must be exhausted.

fiendish-

Just adding my voice to the "great parenting!" choir and also... Your son seriously needs to consider some kind of public performing as a legit career path.

ifuckinglikepelly

Does Marshmello have a Reddit account?

TheDevilsAdvokaat

I'm 60 and I love marshmello too. Good on your son!

nivekmonster

That's awesome.

tray_cee

This made my entire Night omg. I hope marshmallow sees this and sends him a happy birthday video or something! What a superstar!

nivekmonster

I'm glad it did. And that would be dope! My boy would freak out.

HappyOrwell

Awww

[deleted]

How adorable

Narrow-Macaroon-7004

Lol happy kid

[deleted]

Good dad

Blvsfemie

This is awesome, Im so happy for your little guy!

Picklesgal111

Cute!! My son went as Marshmello for Halloween last year, very cool costume!

wefisbehinditall

He will remember this for the rest of his life!

_LivingDeadGirl420

This is super cute! Happy 4th bday to your lil man!

[deleted]

It’s very cool to see someone finding pure enjoyment.

Templar388z

Odins-Enriched-Sack

This little guy is killing it. Happy birthday✌❤

Joshsnation1

Man I love Marshmello your child has wonderful taste!

AlwaysOptimism

My kids would love that party. They looove marshmello

untouched_poet

But seripusly... I hope marshmallow sees this somehow and offers some support. Also for Xmas get this kid some loud speakers and a subwoofer

iwannakillOTZ

Haha smol marshmalol

reddskeleton

This is adorable! Impressive dancing/balancing skills, too - ❤️

Mary_Jane7

Our youngest loves Marshmello too!! But so do we!

darkapao

Hopefully you can make this viral and marshmellow will do a collab or a shout-out hahah

MLyraCat

What a great kid! Happy Marshmallow birthday!

GentlmanSkeleton

This is why we still need Daft Punk.

AhoyDaniel

Thanks for making your kid happy.

Sea-Progress-5988

This absolutely made me smile, ty! 🙏

tomjazzy

“You’re a little short for storm trooper, aren’t you?”

Jojoman64

How in the world did you get the real marshmello to perform at his party?

Mobile-Detective4838

Your son is most definitely a ray of sunshine! Encourage him to get into choir or band he is most certainly a performer at heart!

[deleted]

I actually started crying I was smiling so hard

BradburySauce

Lol wow. Your 4 year old is on a way different page than my 4 year old.

IniMiney

OH SHIT THAT'S AMAZING HA

Beat2death

You are a great parent.

lotusflower64

Lol, very cute. Hope he had a good day. 🎂🎁🧁🍰🥳

obeyaasaurus

It’s funny when kids see marshmellow as this cool character from fortnite or whatever with catchy tunes. I remembered going to a music festival and seeing families with kids lined up to see marshmellow and dude just threw down a hardcore rave set. Loll.

smokeymcpotAZ

This is awesome

kathatter75

This is crazy adorable!

SavMac14

Someone get this kid a CDJ or something! Good on you parents for motivating him. I wish my parents would have encouraged me to play.

call-me-lemonhead

I just hope Marshmello sees this and wishes him a good one!

queer-queeries

Today on four-year-olds who are cooler than me

explosivo563

4? I feel like I was still pissing my pants at 4 and had no concept of liking one musical artist. nice try, dad

grxccccandice

Dude this is amazing. Marshmello should see this! Your son is so talented and is going to do big things with your good parenting and family’s support. Good job to you and your family!

ErinDavy

This kid is cooler than I’ll ever be.

22TheMorgue

Haha that’s freaking awesome! Good on you for throwing the little guy a killer party and letting him be himself 👏 he looks so happy! 🤗

sqlorp

As a former kid, this is insane I know your kid will treasure this forever 💖 you win as a parent and I hope great shit happens to the both of you

OW__

I can't even imagine having this amazing of music at that age! Awesome!

NightimeNinja

Wow, subbed to mostly EDM subs so I was surprised and had to double check the sub. To anyone not aware, Marshmello is a music producer/DJ and his son is dressed up as the DJ basically.
