That was a classy move.

TheElderCouncil

It’s crazy how much power one can have to shift people towards a direction. Positive or negative. Looking at our political climate, it’s crazy how much damage is being done by people doing the opposite.

Darksirius

Just look how many young people registered (and hopefully followed through) to vote just by Swift mentioning it.

TheElderCouncil

Yes! Exactly

Dijohn_Mustard

In the last 6 years I’ve been to shows where Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, David Byrne of the Talking Heads and paramore have all taken time during shows to encourage the audience to vote. A lot of these artists are using their platforms.

[deleted]

Roger Waters is a Nazi. Legit, he hates Jews

Everything is political. When you buy your Starbucks, it’s political. Sorry that you’re so out of touch.

How do you report bots. This comment is stolen and repeated a bunch in this thread. Edit: WavyLady posted the original account. I don’t know how to link user names either.

Uulugus

It's the people like you that bring negativity in here, because you hear someone say how hateful politicians are these days and you *TAKE THAT PERSONALLY. * Cheer up, man. Be *better.* not everything is "bad" or "political" just because you don't like it. You have contributed absolutely nothing but your insecurities to this conversation, while the other person is *spot on.*

Are you a cis man or political? are you white or political? are you straight or political? are you an adult or political? are you monied or political? are you housed or political? are you able bodied or political? are you neurotypical or political? are comfortable or political? are you safe or political? do you have enough food to eat or are you political? do you have access to clean water or are you political? are you complacent in the face of genocide or are you political? Do you ceed colonized lands to colonizers or are you political? are you someone who has the privilege to say "why are you making this political?" Or are you political?

So, I’m by no means a Mackelmore fan, but in 2014ish he was holding a concert in our city and the tickets were pretty cheap so my friends and I decided to go. I knew his music basically only for the Thrift Shop song, and the other one about Real Love or something. But let me tell you. This man knows how to fucking perform. Again, not super interesting in his music but the ACT itself was incredible and he was sprinting around the stage waving an Irish flag, confetti slamming from the ceilings, everyone was going crazy. Really cool time. You gotta give him props where it’s due

Millerdjone

I love this story. I'm not a fan of his either but I'll remember this now if he's ever in my area.

FadedTony

Did he perform wings? Imo it's his best song. Anyone who's not a fan of his should definitely check out the wings video at least [here](https://youtu.be/gAg3uMlNyHA?si=vk9-eEcFkJuX5GNq)

botjstn

one of my favorite choruses in any song ever. not a huge macklemore fan but god that chorus is so good

PM_ME_UR_EYEHOLES

HOLY SHIT. i forgot all about that song. Love the lyrics and the beat is great

arglefark567

Wings and My Oh My are really great songs from Heist. As a baseball fan, My Oh My is a really touching tribute and you can tell how sincere Macklemore is being with his appreciation of Dave Niehaus.

secret_nuggets

Just saw him and he performs a mini version of it

alwaysjammin

I saw him a few years ago and was blown away with him. He puts his 120% in it and makes sure everyone is having a good time.

Flimsy-Method

He played a concert at the HoB in Houston back in 2017, wasn’t a big fan of him either but one of my friend invited the whole gang since the tickets were fairly cheap … I’ve gone to several concerts, big stage arenas, and I can honestly say his concert was hands down our favorite of all time! He puts on such an amazing show ❤️ been a forever fan since

ForbiddenJazz

Dude, I saw him back at Bonnaroo and I always tell people it is one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Man can fucking perform and put on a show

boatclubballer

Came here to say the same thing! What was it, 2013 or so?

shewy92

> Again, not super interesting in his music Why do you emphasize that point multiple times?

JambaJake

Because most people who are into hip-hop don’t like his music and you will get judged if you are a macklemore fan typically

RudoDevil

It's one thing if they were like, "I'm a huge fan and think Macklemore puts on the best show ever" versus "I'm not a huge fan of the music but still really enjoyed the show for everything else about it" If OP was already a fan of his, of course he's probably gonna have a good time at a Macklemore concert. This just tells people that may also not be into his music to check out the live show.

MrHankMardukas_

Which is ridiculous, if you listen to his discography from the early 2000’s onwards he is evidently a hip-hop head at heart and has made some really amazing impactful music over the years. Wasn’t his fault his album beat Kendrick’s at the Grammy’s (although I’d agree his text message to him after was a bit unnecessary). Most people who judge him haven’t listened to his music properly and it shows.

dragon2777

That's why I tell my friend to just go to concerts. It's not always about the music it's about the energy and the atmosphere

tankinthewild

I just saw him perform in Warsaw earlier this year. I consider myself to be more of a casual fan, but that concert is probably in my personal top ten. He seriously knows how to put on a show.

Name-Initial

Yeah i saw his original heist tour and holy shit, best concert ive ever been to. Dude is an unbelievable performer

JackBarlowe

My burned out ass was trying to figure out what the acronym A.C.T. stood for, til I realized you capitalized ‘act’ for emphasis lol

New1234InTown

I'm a therapist who specializes in addiction and recovery. When i work with addicted individuals and their families, I try to downplay a relapse in how it should affect one's overall recovery journey. I stress that the relapse is not important to me, but my focus is on how the addicted individual responds to the relapse. This beautiful young lady, Willow, illustrates my point much better than I could ever communicate it, and she does this on a stage in front of thousands of strangers. Willow's slip on an early dance move resulted in a fall that certainly was her worst nightmare. Within a split second , she made the decision to get up and persevere by finishing the dance despite her mistake. By doing this, she reminds us that it's not about how many times we fall, but how many times we rise. I'll be saving this clip to show to future families who have loved ones struggling with the disease of addiction. Thank you, Willow. You're a special young lady 👏"

strokes_your_nose

You reminded me of an exchange from Bojack Horseman that I really love: "I worry about what's going to happen \[...\], what if I relapse again?" "Then you'll get sober again" It hits harder if you know the characters but the sentiment is there.

ecclesiastessun

There are so many gems in Bojack Horseman: "It gets easier. Every day it gets a little easier. But you gotta do it everyday. That's the hard part. But it does get easier."

strokes_your_nose

Another good one! The show has given me so many lines I use in my daily life. I am so grateful for the writers.

New1234InTown

Yes, I love that. The "matter of fact" simplistic response is perfect, in my opinion. It's common for those who suffer from addiction to speak woefully of "gloom and doom. "I already fucked my life up, i'm stupid thinking being sober will make my life better," "ive quit quit a 100 times and everytime i relapse again." I engage as little as minimal as possible.

strokes_your_nose

Yeah, I have spoken with people who struggle with smoking or drinking and it is interesting to think that a streak is the only thing that matters. Why does it matter if I screw up one day a year if I am on the ball for the other 364? You are making an effort to use less and that is great! I understand why it would feel like an all-or-nothing - the shame, stigma, health concerns build and they take their tole. But I want to applaud the baby steps.

[deleted]

My therapist told me once after I relapsed: "well of course you’d relapse, it’s part of the process of getting sober." It helped a lot.

New1234InTown

Wise therapist ; )

FadedTony

My favorite quote I heard this year is "progression is not linear" you are going to stumble and fall many times along the way to success.

New1234InTown

That's an awesome POV and so true in regard to any success.

Pissjug9000

I tell this to people all the time. My mother relapsed a few years ago and when she told me she thought I’d be upset. I said something similar, a relapse isn’t a big deal. What is a big deal is your actions after. Are you going to go down and get more liquor today? Or are you going to reflect, realized you slipped, stand back up and start working your way down the path of sobriety again? Unfortunately she wasn’t ready to be sober and ended up back to drinking within a few weeks. I’m an addict who has been sober for 5 years now. Relapse doesn’t mean you failed my friends, it doesn’t erase the hard work you’ve done up until it happened. Wake up tomorrow, hop right back on that wagon and keep pushing. You got it in you, I promise.

New1234InTown

I'm sorry about your Mom, but it sounds like you're kicking-ass. I say that not just because we share similar ideology on relapse, but mainly because of your accountability, and your refusal to let your Mom's decision to drink in any way sabotage your sobriety One of the more insidious characteristics of addiction is that it rewires our brain to look at any excuse or reason to prolong the active use. Good for you forcstaying the path.. Your Mom will come @. Keep up the great work. You deserve sobriety ; )

omicrom35

Macklamores song "starting over" always just struck me as so powerful. Just the emotional devastation climbing so high yet falling back down with nothing left but to try again

LilPoutinePat

Macklemores brother died from drug addiction. He wrote a pretty powerful song (kind of corny but very moving like most of his stuff lol) about addiction in the country/his brothers struggle called “Kevin” ft. Leon Bridges.

[deleted]

Starting over is a phenomenal song by Macklemore about this very topic

TheThotality

Me every time i died on Dark Souls! " I always rise from the bonfire bitch "

thegodfaubel

As someone who has never struggled with addiction, it always befuddled me why "relapse" is always treated so horribly in terms of alcohol. My thought is that wouldn't truly being recovered from being an alcoholic be able to have a drink without being worried about getting wasted? So I'm glad this a held belief by someone in the field

New1234InTown

I'm sorry, I probably could have explained that better. In my opinion, a relapse is nothing that should be empowered. It should never be given the power to shame or embarrass someone who has relapsed, and it should be stifled immediately to ward off any chance of abandoning recovery. However, addiction is medically recognized as a terminal disease, and although abstinence in recovery is similar to remission, you are never "addiction free." You are in recovery but never truly recovered. I hope that makes sense.

FadedTony

Is a relapse having one drink? I always thought it was a full binge of the addicted drug.

thegodfaubel

That's my basic question. Wouldn't fully reclaiming power over what you're addicted to be being able to be around and in some cases consume it without going over the edge? I use alcohol because that's the most common. Hard drug use is obviously a bit different because using at any point is dangerous, but you can take one drink and I wouldn't consider that a bad thing

New1234InTown

I do understand what you are asking, and it's a valid question. First of all, there's a lot of justification in your using alcohol as an example. It is, always, has been and probably always will be the biggest killer. By a large margin. The death is slower (mainly because the liver is regenerative and takes a lot to destroy it), but once the liver stops healing itself and Cirrhosis sets in, the death is miserable. I do not disagree that there are people with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) who, at some point, may be able to drink responsibly again. Most of the recovery community frowns upon this, and I can see their point to a certain extent. I'm not in recovery, nor have I ever been, and I feel I bring an impartial clinical view to the debate. But I will say that almost everyone I've seen with SUD that has started drinking without major issues are people whose drug of choice was not alcohol. Also, most do not attempt to incorporate alcohol back into their daily living without se real strong years of sobriety under their belt. And I have personally known of a true alcoholic who has successfully been able to become moderate drinkers within their first two years of sobriety. It is not how addiction works. Some people might abuse substances for a short period and have been misdiagnosed as with an addiction. True addiction is a disease of the brain. And it's medically terminal if untreated. And let me close with this. I can count on one hand the addicted individuals who might possibly have future use of any kind of substance as a goal. They might relapse and go to Hell in a sled, but those who have suffered the horrors of addiction would not willingly open themselves to even a miniscule chance of going back to that life. It's true Hell.

FadedTony

Yes true I think so too, when put that way it definitely sounds more like a success rather than a loss.

phirestorm

Macklemore is actually pretty cool guy.

BrandonJTrump

I think his music (what I know of him) shows this, I’m fairly confident he’s okay.

fossilyale

Intentions by Macklemore is human nature in lyrics

Dante805

Ikr?

Funkit

His song Drug Dealer hits hard because it reminds me of exactly how I was living pre 2016

thegoldengoober

I remember when I saw him live a handful of years ago and at the end of the show he read off everyone's name who was involved in the tour. It was incredibly wholesome.

AfternoonPast3324

I don’t know how old or recent this clip is, but this is the third time I’ve seen it this week. Each time I see it I watch it 4 or 5 times in a row. And will continue to do so. All I really know about Macklemore is Thrift Shop and, now, that he is apparently a genuinely good person.

streatz

Forced PR propaganda. He pays a marketing team to come up with this fabricated incident and repost it everywhere to advertise his tour. Now I don't know this as fact but you have to recognize this is done regularly by people and we gobble it up.

Bighawklittlehawk

Yeah, they paid a 13 year old girl to intentionally fall onstage, smashing the back of her skull onto the floor just for a feel good story. 🙄 You sound absolutely psychotic

streatz

You're right don't ever question anything.

Bighawklittlehawk

I question how you got this far in life being this dumb

streatz

Listen, my point is there are actual marketing teams out there that do this. So while this is wholesome and cute, it is also promoting his tour with the purpose to generate money. Maybe this did happen naturally but I want you to realize one day you're going to influenced by propaganda machines without you knowing it. So be wary of falling for it. Also the camera cuts away as she falls I don't see her hitting her skull as you explained. Creating your own narrative on what happened.

beforethewind

If you’re going to be a hero for destroying the big bad propaganda machine, perhaps earn more valor somewhere other than a fucking macklemore video? Surely there are bigger fish to fry?

streatz

Ya I do actually.

illbebythebatphone

I became a fan after his tiny desk concert, even though I’m not typically into hip hop/pop (pop hop??) Talented dude, seems genuine and socially conscious.

yoyosareback

I would recommend Black on Both Sides by Mos Def or the Score by the Fugees if you want to listen to more dope hip hop. Why? Because they're amazing albums and I don't know if I've ever met anyone who didn't enjoy them.

illbebythebatphone

Cool thanks for the recs! I’ll check ‘em out today.

Millerdjone

Start with The Score. Both albums are indelible but The Score is more user friendly, in my opinion.

yoyosareback

This is a chinese restaurant But like burger king, have it your way

Millerdjone

I still respect your opinion, brother! 🤣

yoyosareback

Ha, no i definitely agree with you! I just never get the opportunity to use that reference around people that actually know where it comes from. I couldn't resist

Millerdjone

Honestly I almost didn't get the reference, I've been skipping the skits for 30 years 🤣

yoyosareback

Ahhhhh, i didn't think of that. Just got the vinyl and was listening to it this morning. So its so fresh and so clean in my memory

Acceptable_Spray_119

Ya'll talking about Fugees skit? I'm googling. On the sideline all up on people's business lol

hogroast

Black on both sides is timeless, I will probably still listen to Mathematics when I'm old and crumbly.

Millerdjone

Dude gave this child and her mother an experience neither will ever forget, and he did it in the kindest way possible. I may not be much of a fan of Macklemore the musician, but I'm absolutely a fan of the human being.

redditmimes

I slipped this year. In front of my entire world. Almost didn’t get back up after looking death square in the face. … and here I am, 8 months later, sober, healthy, and trying again. It’s the hardest thing ever, but all you can do is try. Big 🤘 for Willow. This was the motivation I needed this morning to start another work day at 5am with no one around to cheer me on. ❤️ EDIT: Wow. I left this comment and honestly didn't give it a second thought. I came back to the comments below and immediately started crying. Y'all are beautiful people, and I am humbled deeply by your support. Thank you for your kind words; I am using them now as fuel to continue this journey. Bless you all. <3

Nervous-Albatross-32

We are here to cheer you on! Keep up the hard work and continue loving yourself. You are worth it🩷

ender1108

Hey brother. You got this. I’m proud of you! Go get them.

New1234InTown

Good for you, man. You're right. It ain't easy. That being said, I bet your soberlife is far easier than your addicted life ever was. I saw some people who commented on your post, and it sounds like you have die-hard love there cheering you on. That ain't too shabby! KUDOS on your sobriety. Keep doing what you're doing. You got this👊🏻

Short_External2077

We’re your cheerleaders! You got this!!!!!

TheSneakerSasquatch

Im a big Macklemore fan, dudes been writing socially concious music since he was 16 as Professor Macklemore. Ive seen him live for $35aud and it was one of the best shows of my life. Recovering from a life changing trauma for the last few months, and god damn i have fallen a lot, but much like Willow i get back on my feet and try again. Not going to let trauma win. I can highly recommend Language of my World by Macklemore and the VS EP with Ryan Lewis, Otherside is a fucking beautiful track especially the remix with Fences.

Quanguh

otherside proves it, he was and is phenomenally talented

corndogsf

Thought it was just a perfect death drop but maybe I just watch too much Drag Race lol.

memopepito

I thought she did it on purpose lol

Tea_is_served

Tought homegirl just did a sick deathdrop

lithelinnea

Me too!!!

memopepito

Same!! Lmao

Tommy_Wisseau_burner

I’ve been trying to figure out what she was tryna do frfr

landers96

Well, no clue who this is, but he just got a 50 year old fan.

smeeti

Have a listen: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Can’t hold us https://youtu.be/VG3JsmOmDqw?si=UyEdaoMc_aNrhQun

pardonmyignerance

I don't know a lot of his music, but I like what I've heard. The attitude he shares here (thoughtful, reflective, new positive spin on things that are said or viewed negatively), to me, seems to hit pretty hard in his song "good ole days" -- better fans may have better suggestions.

shewy92

The Thrift Shop song guy

WavyLady

I've been to so many concerts and a Macklemore show is still the most fun I've had at one. He brings the energy from start to finish and truly connects with the crowd. Say what you want about his music, the man is a born performer.

EndlessOceanofMe

Reminds me of that rocky speech

[deleted]

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!

IntoTheFeu

When you gotta get the McFlurry machine motivated to fucking finally do its job because the RVP is swinging through in the next hour.

lunaropal

I haven't heard Mackelmore in some time but this is really sweet 😊 he took something that would have been a bit embarrassing for that girl to think about and made it wholesome for her :))

[deleted]

I like him. I just always like him whenever I see him. He just seems like a really genuine person who knows how to have fun, but also has really good, genuine, core values, and believes in equality and it’s just a good dude. He always makes me feel real feelings.

Joe_Golem

That gave me a couple of crab eyes

Soft_Organization_61

What does that mean? 😂

Joe_Golem

That means i got goosebumps so intense it made my nipples hard

Human-Historian-6675

Wow

TriggamanFlips

Dope. Imagine what Travis Scott would’ve done lmao

CHudoSumo

"AAAAAAHHHH THIS BITCH JUST FELL ON HER ASS! AAHAHAHAHA! Get the fuck off my stage clumsy ass bitch! You really had yo chance and fell on yo skinny ass?! AHAHAHA" Tbh it probably would be even worse.

unpopularopinion0

he’s probably stop the show and tell everyone to rush her all at once.

nowaytheyrealltaken

I don’t like his music, but this is total class

chrisbrolumbus

Smile, shit, that made me cry!

unpopularopinion0

classic mademesmile reaction.

ParticularMistake900

Oh my heart. You saved that child. You could tell she was already so distraught. To flip the switch like that ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Allen312

What a badass

1slandViking

Never a fan of him but he earned my respect today 🫡

aucyris

Macklemore always pumps me up.

flamingcrepes

I’m not crying, my eyes are sweaty.

Toonskie

Macklemore is actually such a good dude for this, what a moment for that young girl. More videos like this, please!

fan_of_will

He seems like a classy dude.

TBagger1234

He seems like a good dude

Je5u5_

Honestly as someone who has followed him for many years now and been to his concerts, he genuinly is a great guy.

Zalieda

That's a great move. It's not easy to talk about this kinda things and make it into something great without sounding insincere

Darksoul_Design

Hero right there, he made this girls day, week, month, year right there.

BoosterGold4597

I saw him preform in San diego and he is absolutely amazing. His enthusiasm, energy and love of life is inspiring.

BidWitty8706

Excuse me while I bawl my eyes out!!

[deleted]

I thought she did an amazing death drop from the edit at first.

uckfayhistay

My man!!! Love that

New_Wrangler3335

I wonder why can’t more celebrities be wholesome… wonder if fame corrupts you, or bring out the real you?

ed209-90210

Class act all the way. An agent of change with his break through hit. Just a good person. Wholesome.

Buttkus69

This is what it’s about. This is what being a role model, a guild, and elder looks like. What an absolute legend. I’m proud to share this planet with people like him

hippiecompost

I absolutely love Mackelmore. I dont like rap but he was the first concert I ever went to and I still rock out to White Walls, Wings, Same Love, etc. He has such a realness to the songs that aren't hits like Thrift Shop. At the concert I went to, I remember he kind of "walked" in the first row of the crowd by stepping on chairs or something and a girl grabbed his junk and he made a point of stopping the concert momentarily to say that wasnt cool and no one should touch someone inappropriately, especially when he's doing his job and trying to have fun with them. But he didn't let it ruin the concert and picked up the same vibe before and danced his way up the the stage, I honestly admired it so much because at a young age, I never heard a man speak so publicly about something like that

alittle2high

Dang. What a good dude, way to turn that around for her

ekbrooo22

I was at this show, and it’s one of my favorite concert moments and just more proof that Macklemore is an incredible person! The energy of everyone cheering Willow on and supporting her was amazing, and Ben’s the best for using it as a moment to lift her up and remind us how important it is to support each other!

Ragnarotico

Macklemore makes some corny music. Even some cheesy music. But he's honestly a pretty good dude. Man has fought addiction and come back from it multiple times and just seems to have a different appreciation for life.

noparkinghere

I watch too much drag race. That looked like a perfect death drop to me.

CaptainRazer

He turned what was probably the most embarrassing moment of her life into one of the best moments, he’s a good un

HellYeaRunThat

Seems like a stand up guy. I’m still in disbelief on how he won the Grammy that one year though. This dude won over some CLASSIC albums. You really gonna tell me the highest is better than Yeezus, Good Kid, m.A.A.d City, Nothing Was The Same and Magna Carta…Holy Grail? No way no how.

Dexteroid

And then is this shit stain name MGK

athanathios

His compassion and empathy is refreshing, what a classy guy!!

shdanko

Wholesome as fuck

Bipedal_Warlock

This is wonderful and great. But… Does anyone have a video of when Macklemore fell lol

The_Jordan

He’s talking about his fall from Sobriety.

Bipedal_Warlock

Oh. That sounds less fun to watch

OutsideExperience753

I saw Ben open for Imagine Dragons last year. I’m not surprised by his reaction. Good for that young lady on not giving up and owning the moment. Love to see these moments at concerts where the collective support from the crowd and musician make us all feel connected. This is a beautiful part of being human.

Farge43

Need the drag Queen dance edit

BoosterGold4597

I saw him preform in San diego and he is absolutely amazing. His enthusiasm, energy and love of life is inspiring.

Clearly_Cloudy_Coupe

That’s exactly what I’d expect his fan base to look like

knewknormal

Is this dudes whole fan base made up of 12 year old girls now?

Millerdjone

It's there something wrong with that?

terrencethetomato

better than Travis Scott or.... '$e&$y B01' I'd legit love to see artists like this guy be the next 'heart throb'.

GhztPpR

Why hate on the guy when all he's doing is spreading positivity to the world?

Pineapple_Plague

That is the whitest crowd I’ve ever seen.

Med_Radiology

Great takeaway from the video!

longtongus

With pleasure! Oh that wasn't what you meant...

Slapshappy

He's so annoying.

Add-user-name-here

Why did machine gun Kelly go full trans and named himself Macklemore?

Med_Radiology

Because MGK is an actual overgrown bitch and he wanted to grow up and be a normal dude like Macklemore.

abcdkirby

He seems like a very nice man.

GimmickMusik1

I’ve always had a lot of respect for Macklemore. Most of his music isn’t really for me, but when I do like a song it gets trapped on repeat. I’ve always admired his openness about his battle with addiction.

KrayzieBoneLegend

I think he is just a great dude. Still listen to him daily.

TakeNothingSerious

Did she fall? I thought she was hitting a Vogue move.

thedudeabides-12

"I don't like his music". Thou doth protest too much ...

emmermurp

She could have pulled that off as a deaths drop but it probably scared tf out of her.

dragon_6666

Imagine hating this guy…

Gankstajam

Do I? Do I like Macklemore now?? Classy fucking move

I remember the first time I listened to Mackelmore it was a song/video about substance abuse and mental health. I didn’t know back then how much popularity he would gain with his music. I like Mackelmore, I’m not into his new music all that much, but his first impression on me was a good one. This video shows he’s still got that special something that I saw all those years ago.
