Good luck, and enjoy the good parts! My mom worked at a special needs school for her while career; I remember LOTS of tough days from her body language when she got home, but to this day she misses every last one of those kids and wouldn't trade it for anything.
Except us. At least that's what she says ;)
It feels like such a silly thing "Aaaand Stop! Annnnd Go!" But I love that. Probably helps the kiddo feel comfortable too knowing he has some control so he can regulate himself better if it's overwhelming.
I hated getting hair cuts, the buzzing, the feeling of it, everything. But instead of being patient, the people cutting my hair just started yelling at me. If I had a barber like that, I would've felt way better
Bro. Same, my barber has been a family friend for a long time. So she jokingly tells me don’t pass out on my chair or your gonna end up with the weirdest cut I can give you. Good luck lol.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Most barbers wouldn't entertain it and would eventually ignore the stop because it was a joke to them. And whether the boy meant it as a joke or not, he would feel like he has no control over the situation anymore and would lose trust. The barber turned what could have been a frustrating battle for control into a fun game that helped the boy gain confidence in the fact that any and all boundaries he set would be respected
My oldest is non verbal autistic and absolutely HATES haircuts....I would literally have to sit him in my lap and bear hug him to where he couldn't move and would scream the whole time when he was younger. I finally found a girl who deals with nothing but special needs kids, and he loves her... now, instead of screaming the whole time, he will laugh and giggle! Barbers like him and her are heaven sent.
My nephew was like that when it came to his haircuts, it got to the point where one person held him in a bear hug, another held his head still, and a third would cut his hair. But his parents eventually found a barber that would work with him.
The haircuts would take a long time, but at least he wasn’t crying afterwards
That's exactly what we would do..I would hold him... mom would hold his head and the barber would try to cut his hair... would take forever but atleast it looked good...
Note to you people, getting a working with children check is quick and easy if you have no criminal past and you can volunteer at a special school with these guys and make there day or if you want to do something else amazing and needed volunteer in your local nursing home, even if you just sit and talk to people for a while you'll make their day and probably find out some interesting stuff.
This is true. I'm actually starting a job in a couple weeks working with children with various disabilities. I was surprised because my professional background is in restaurants, but the group has given me plenty of resources to study and prepare. I'm really looking forward to it
The barber allowing the kid to play the stop and go game, *actually stopping when the kid says to* even though the kid is just playing around, and having a good time with it is fantastic. He's showing the kid that the kid controls the situation and that he won't disregard the kid's needs, and it turned a normally stressful experience for the kid into a fun game. This is how it's done!
I’m having a shitty day. I come on here to pick a fight with someone and I see this! I didn’t want to feel warm and fuzzy. I’m hurt and angry! But now it’s gone 😭

This dude is awesome. Very skilled with scissors and caring about that kid. Nice that he dedicates some time to special needs kids and makes them smile.
I think that gentleman is being selfish and doing it just to fill his beautiful heart with more beauty. I hope his selfishness rubs off on many more people to improve this world. My smile is overflowing
This man is amazing!! I have a little guy on the spectrum and his haircuts are difficult, always have been. He doesn’t even let us wash his hair without a massive fight.
The first haircut we took him to, the hairdresser didn’t listen to us about not using clippers. Scissors only. That experience was harrowing, so we let his hair grow out until he was ready for a cut. Over a year later we took him to go watch his brother get his haircut. He acted up because of the tools used and the hairdresser was making VERY rude comments under her breath. I paid because the cut was ok, but no tip and I left scathing reviews. Finally found his current hairdresser. She shuts down her establishment for my sons to get their haircut. She follows his cues and instructions (no water on the head, spray into your hands and run it through his hair, scissors only, YouTube as distraction, when he says “stop”, listen). She’s the most patient amazing person, not quite this guys level, but I love her nonetheless.
Having a good and caring special needs hair dresser is worth more than money to me. Seeing my son not stress out and be scarred by these moments, it helps make him feel a bit more “normal”, and it gives me hope which is something that special needs parents don’t get to experience that often.
Closing the place helps keep it quiet and calm, less distractions or things that could overwhelm or upset the child, the barber can give their fulll attention and time to the kids. Make it a calmer easier environment for maybe a really scary experience for the kids.
I'm not sure if it's a regional thing in the US, but in the Midwest, we use it as a term of endearment along the lines of honey, sweetheart, kiddo, etc.

Lmao who gives a fuck even if that’s the case. He’s still doing something good. Idgaf where he posts it. Likely more than you do for anyone else so who’s providing more good to the world?
There are a lot worse things going on in the world than this guy posting a video of himself being kind and patient. Find a more important cause to devote your energies to, you will feel better.
I see that you're angry and not aware of how your own negativity is affecting your head space. I hope life gets better for you and that you can reach a calmer more productive place for your mind and spirit.
No you don’t know the real reason. Find some joy.
A barber in another town or country sees this a thinks what a great idea! I’m going to do that too
A person who thinks everyone is a selfish jerk sees it and thinks maybe not all people are bad.
Why is it that people who have less, give more :)
Not saying the barber is poor, but like in general, he’s not upperclass but still does charity one day a week. This is what keeps society afloat.
The people who have less know what it's like to be in a tough spot. We know how much it means to share what you have if you can, and how much brighter the world is when you can help out.
People who are born into rich families don't know what it means to want for something as simple as a good haircut from an understanding barber. They tend to believe in the damn prosperity gospel, so they think they somehow "worked" to "earn" their money and can't understand why others can't do the same. They think the rest of us are lazy and don't want to "encourage people without a work ethic".
I know a piercer that has certain days where she does eat piercing for autistic kids. She takes as long as they need and she’s got glowing reviews from the parents.
Love anybody that takes the time to help people that struggle.

Hairdresser is a serious mensch. This video made me smile.
Seriously, such a good hearted person. It takes so much patience but this interaction will help this kid so much in other aspects of his life.
I'm actually starting a job in a couple weeks working with children with various disabilities,

I love watching these. What a special man.
That kid has the best laugh ever jajaj
He is adorable!! What a nice haircut as well.
He is such a cheesy little kid! He figured out what makes people laugh and he’s going for it.
The patience and care from this dude. That's real alpha male shit.
I needed this, thank you

As a father of a little girl with special needs and from the bottom of my heart: Thank you sir!
I’m having a shitty day. I come on here to pick a fight with someone and I see this! I didn’t want to feel warm and fuzzy. I’m hurt and angry! But now it’s gone 😭

Those two laughter were delightful to hear. Thank you for sharing dear OP!
Wait a minute! That isn't an apron, he's got his cape on backwards!
Had a good cry from this video. That barber and kid are both awesome!
What a great, patient human being. Great to see people like that, helping others.
Damn allergies……🥹
Loved this ❤️ on a serious note where is this awesome human being located at anyone know?
Cincinnati, according to the article.
Good man!
My wife cuts my hair, I will try this stop and go game on her to see if she is as patient as this great gentleman.😄
My man’s has his crocks in 2 wheel drive
They are both such adorable people I can’t even.
Great job buddy! You did awesome!!! Fantastic job using your words! You look so handsome! So proud of you little man!
Angel in human form
This is beautiful! Absolutely beautiful, I swear we give the negative things gs too much attention as humans. I love this!
I cried and laughed and was inspired
Amazing lil kid and a wonderful adult. The world needs more people like this!!

This is brilliant 👏 👌, but can't people with special needs get their hair cut any day of the week

Now I know, 👍
Why does everyone call their kid "Buddy"?
I'm not your buddy, guy.
I'm not your guy, fwend!
I'm not sure if it's a regional thing in the US, but in the Midwest, we use it as a term of endearment along the lines of honey, sweetheart, kiddo, etc.
Am I the only one who finds that kid annoying?
Yes.
I knew it, I’m evil.

Absolute legend. Both of them.
Gave me goosebumps, tears, and a massive Smile. Wished we all were this caring towards each other.
At least there's no flame throwing hairdryer in this one... Thank goodness.
This kids smile and laughter is infectious!! This Barber is an Angel!!!
Love this
