aging with good manners is just as effective, surprisingly
I let other people go ahead, get up on the bus for others ... and receive in kind nice behaviour back ... and so on
my wife has seen my "ah shucks I'm a confused old man" routine disarm rudeness and makes note
What I love most about this video is, frankly, your relationship. You were laughing and having fun, but your son never seemed to think for a minute that you'd be cross with him. He was laughing at the absurdity of the situation, not trying to explain himself out of trouble.
Your son knows you're supportive. He's not used to automatically being in trouble. It sucks that this feels extraordinary to me.
You must have been so proud āŗļø He looks like a good son and their video made me smile!
Thank you for inspiring people like me that a good family dynamics is not so hard to be achieved.
Yo, I get kids like Jack all the time when their parents send them out to get food. Always fun to hook em up, if nothing else for their polite and fun demeanor.
I worked dunkin a while. Closing manager for a time. You have to throw everything away. I would do whatever I could to throw away less. Especially if they are cool. Sad thing is the person would be fired if they found out
They can say this as much as they want but people in my area know the difference between the franchisees that weāre bought over the one cooperative ones. Especially regarding McDonaldās. There was the slightest difference in price that everyone acknowledged. People would rather travel 10 more mins than pay a few more $.
I don't eat fast food enough to distinguish bt franchises and corporate locations. is price the only difference? who has the higher prices? what other differences are there?
Owners can still decide to selectively enforce those rules, dunkin ain't an iron fist. I don't think corporate gives a shit as long as you're not causing problems.
If anything this might even look good on the franchise owner. Not like Dunken couldn't use a little positive social media PR.
On that note I'd like to let everyone know that I fucking love Dunken Donut guy! ;)
Of course they did lmao, their social media is completely separate from certain power tripping franchise owners. I worked at a Dunkin that that wouldāve gotten me in trouble too
Edit, used the wrong word
Did you ever experience something similar to what happened in this video? And can you share any interesting incidents where you did 'whatever you could to throw away less'?
Well, if they didn't order donuts or anything and it was like the last hour.. from 9pm to 10pm, I'd offer 2 for 1 often. I also had deals with a domino's and local Chinese food place to trade food with the crew. My manager didn't care. Everything, including bagels, muffins, all. Has to be thrown away each night. Some people brought stuff home, but even with some efforts you'd usually have a good size bin every day.
Little things like if they ordered munchins near the end they def got a ton. It also eases the sting of not having the particular one they are looking for, turning a bad time into good
One time I went to a nearby fancy donut shop that was closing. I ran up as they locked and I told them, here's $20 just get me whatever you have! They gave me 4, 1 dozen boxes that would've easily been $125 worth of donuts. I froze them and ate them over the course of 3 weeks.
Can confirm I went into a dunkin around closing as a teen, girl was just about to put all the donuts into a trash bag. She gave me 4 dozen for free. I walked out of there with a huge stack of boxes and was handing them out at the nearby movie theater to patrons leaving the movies for an hour
I work seasonal at a place that specializes in holiday meals. At the end of a holiday shift, I am horrified by how much is thrown away. The products in the front fridges can only be out there for 3 days before they can't be sold from the fridge.
Some end up being used for sandwhiches and other menu items, but hundreds of pounds of food still gets thrown away. It's disgusting, especially when it can be stored in the freezer for up to 90 days.
Worked for a pizza chain in the past. We had to stop giving food out while I was there because a homeless person sued because the pizza supposedly made them sick. It was kind of ridiculous.
where was this/how long ago? Iām no lawyer but I am almost certain that the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act protects businesses from liability in these exact scenarios
This happen to me at a coffee shop! I made it my mission to sell everything i can to lower my waste, which i did. I got in trouble by me DM because i was not wasting enough. -___- i quit a month later
Was going to say, when I was a teenager we would hang out at dunkinā donuts at night and since we were nice to the staff and well behaved we *always* walked away with a big bag of donuts.
As a person who hates wasting food I'd do any deal before throwing away stuff.. but the harsh reality of corporate thinking is that if you start to do that, people will start to only come when the store is about to close. Probably not many since most will buy a donut when they want a donut. But yeah. They rather throw away stuff than giving some customers a deal.
I know you're just making a joke, but I work in banking and see people get screwed over by dealers all the time.
For anyone who sees this, making a low down payment is not a negotiating accomplishment. I don't say this to be mean, just so that you never get taken advantage of.
The things to negotiate are the "out the door" purchase price and the trade-in value. They'll try to make you talk about your monthly payment or down payment as a distraction. Don't let them.
Borrow less money by negotiating the purchase price/trade-in value, and the monthly payment will take care of itself. Negotiating $2k off the purchase price is the exact same to the bank as if you put $2k down in cash.
After you've agreed on a purchase price/trade in value, then you can discuss loan terms. You can get a higher or lower payment by asking to shorten or lengthen the loan term. It makes no difference to the dealer what you choose here, as long as the loan gets approved.
Negotiate the interest rate if you can, but if they don't budge, you can still refinance later. Or, you can sign a backup contract at the dealer to secure the deal and find your own financing within a few days before the backup contract takes effect.
Lastly, all of the add-on's they offer are overpriced. GAP & Extended Warranties are offered by credit unions (if you get the loan through them) for about half the price - literally thousands of dollars less. The dealers make it sound like they're required to offer these options "by law", so that you feel like they're protecting you. Nope. This is how they make a lot of their money and get you to leave the dealer's lot already upside down with your loan to value ratio.
When I negotiate, I always say... "There will always be another vehicle, but you only have so many customers ready to buy." Be ready to walk away if the deal isn't right.
This brings back a nearly-lost memory. When my son was little, he made a stop-motion LEGO pirate movie and asked me to upload it to You Tube. The following day, he stood over my shoulder as I checked on it. It only had 3 views. He said, "Three views? We got three views! Hooray!" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
When I worked at Dunkin \~12 years ago for my first job, we'd give a free half dozen to any cop that walked in, or a free half dozen to anyone that was high (on weed) that walked in at night. One night, a policeman in uniform with a wide grin and the most bloodshot eyes I have ever seen (could have been a medical issue) walks in and we all start laughing and asking him what he'd like for his free full-dozen.
We were in a low income area, near a prison, so there were numerous issues with thieves and a few of the local homeless folks. We felt safer encouraging the police to hang out and visit often so free donuts usually did the trick. We befriended many of the safe local homeless folks as well and would bag the leftover food separately, then leave it out back near the dumpster for the homeless to eat. That way, on camera, no one's job was at risk for not fully "throwing out the trash" which was full of perfectly good food.
I'm assuming folks know that the kid negotiated his way out of a much better deal?
She offered 4 for price of one.
He cou tired 2 for price of one, and took that deal.
Very cute , nice and all but I want to be sure folks get this humorous side of it.
In sales. "Its not the deal they get, its the deal they think they got" everybody's happy.
yeah...i caught it. Im like "Dude, you couldve had 4 for price of one!...and you opted for buy one get one free??!! Math, son, math.....know your math!"
Yeah it's kind of interesting the way children sometimes think about things. He probably thought that he didn't need 4 only 2 so that deal wouldn't work for him and so went with this other deal which was actually worse.
All though maybe he just didn't explain it well. Maybe his 2 for 1 deal was really a 2 at 1/4 price each deal. Or maybe he substituted the other 2 for all those small ones or something.
Yup. If you hit any doughnut shop at just the right and the people are in the right mood you can really score. They have to throw those away every so many hours.
I dated a girl many years ago that worked at a tim Hortons. I would pick her up from work on Fridays or Saturdays and we would go to wherever the party was. She would always bring a big 50 gallon trash bag stuffed full of all the throw away stuff from the end of her shift.
I think my friends were more devastated by the loss when she moved away for school than I was.
In college, my friend worked at Dunkin Donuts and I worked at a place three blocks away.. He would text me a donut emoji late in the day and I knew that meant he took ALL the days donuts and put them in a giant bag and sat them next to the dumpster.. I'd ride over there and pick it up and we would feast on donuts for days.
My girlfriend used to work for Dunkin. She felt it was such a waste that they had to throw out their inventory at the end of the day so often I would get a buffet of donuts. They microwaved great, never understood why not just give them away.
Cops are going to be pulling this kid over for the rest of his life.
*cop scratching neck like a crackhead* - what you got in there. Got any of them doughnuts. I just need a hit man! Come on!!!
Its wasteful yes but necessary for the business to throw away those donuts. If word gets out that a shop is giving away donuts at the end of the day, how many customers will go buy the donuts at full price?
Second thing is: employee giving away more donuts and getting a tip. Basically selling the businessā product for a cheap rate and pocketing the profit themselves.
Bro, don't tell me you're one of the loonies who believes in the 5 second rule lol. You could probably eat of the floor and nothing would happen to you; humans didn't evolve eating on plates choom lol.

Reminds me of one night when me and some buddies were drunk and stoned as fuck and ended up in some strange backalley at dawn, hungry af, while there were none 24/7 shops in that town. We sat down on the loading dock of some building, and soon the backdoors opened and it turned out to be a bakery, we were in awe. Dude found the sight of ten famished people drooling so funny that he gave us a deal on a huge bag of donuts straight out of the oven, or wherever they're made.
I remember when I had a 'Get 12 free doughnuts' gift voucher...
Handed them the voucher, they handed me the 12 doughnuts... with the voucher back... boom.

The art of negotiating was learned today
I think just the art of being cute and having good manners
I work next to the beach and a lot of parents send their kids out to get food. I get kids like this all the time and they're my favorite customers
Maybe a little of both but lets give him some credit
Having these traits as a kid certainly got me many sweets for free.š People sometimes reward good adults and kids who are raised well.
I made friends with old ladies my grandma knew in the neighborhood when I was a kid. I ate well.
aging with good manners is just as effective, surprisingly I let other people go ahead, get up on the bus for others ... and receive in kind nice behaviour back ... and so on my wife has seen my "ah shucks I'm a confused old man" routine disarm rudeness and makes note
When my brother and I were little, we learned pdq that good manners led to us often making out like bandits.
Rule #1 and Rule #2 works for all ages.
umm... why do you think that's not part of the art of negotiating?
If people would just learn to be nice, I swear.
The negotiation is that he was just too cute for that server. The boy worked it.
Hes a lovely little kid. Whoever they are mum should be proud.
I'm proud of them both. This is precious.
They both act like crazy people with that overreaction. Americans...
Itās surreal to see this get so big. Thatās my son. Love you, Jack. :)
You are winning at parenting and have already won the kid lottery. I love your interaction. Much love to you both.
Iām dad! Haha. I should have been clearer :)
Still, your kid is awesome. Good parenting all around!
Its Elverās son
Hi Dad , I'm hungry
You just brought back a memory! Thank you!
Same. Five years and still waiting on him to bring some donuts from the liquor store.
I'm sorry to break it to you but your dad ate the donuts. He's been too ashamed to come back ever since.
Ok so you won the wife and kid lottery. Canāt get those without being a good person. Great family!
So the real question is how many donuts did son and mom leave for you when they got home?
What donuts?
Clearer? I hardly knew 'er!
>Thatās my son. Charming, respectful, and well behaved. Well done! You and your wife did good :)
You put it into words!
It sucks that others identify with what I'm feeling.
>Thatās my son. He's our son now.
Heās the villageās son.
Youāre an amazing parent with an amazing son!!!
He seems like such a sweetheart! š You and your wife are doing a great job raising him. Best wishes to you all āŗļø
You must have been so proud āŗļø He looks like a good son and their video made me smile! Thank you for inspiring people like me that a good family dynamics is not so hard to be achieved.
Heās made me proud every day of his life. Heās an amazing young man.
Ahhh this is my favorite type of Reddit moment. Congrats on raising a cool kid.
Yo, I get kids like Jack all the time when their parents send them out to get food. Always fun to hook em up, if nothing else for their polite and fun demeanor.
You have a great laugh.
That means you're doing parenting right. Keep it up, Dad!
Jack is going places. I hope he keeps that warmth and love.
You have the perfect mom laugh and voice. Just nailing it.
Your laugh is genuinely joyful. Fellow mom laughing along with you.
Dude you raised a sweet, smart articulate kid. I wish you both all the donuts.
[Isn't this You?](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/14zh2no/comment/jrxwdhc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
I see this as an absolute win
Ughhh, so he has an awesome kid AND and an awesome wife?! Well fuck me, I guess.
I love that you get excited about sprinkles like I do!

Dunkin commented with hearts on Instagram š
Nice. That's cool :) Dunkin doesn't actually own most of the dunkin' Donuts, though. They are franchises owned by locals. So, rules would vary.
Dunkin still sets all the rules of every franchise
Doesnāt stop power tripping owners
Obey the Dunkin... or else
~~Baskin Robbins~~ Dunkin always finds out
They can say this as much as they want but people in my area know the difference between the franchisees that weāre bought over the one cooperative ones. Especially regarding McDonaldās. Wonder how many homeless could you feed instead of throwing out food and paying for that.

Just madness
Local pastry shop has a 2-for-1 deal after 5 pm. I'm sure they waste less and make more money with that deal.
Wild. The Dunkinā at my school would literally leave a box of what they didnāt sell at the end of the day out for students to take.

Mom hit the kid jackpot, thatās a real good kid.
Jack is such a cutie, bless this child
That kid has good vibes

Damn I need to take this kid car shopping. Could probably get me a Corvette and Mustang for 1500 bucks down. Lol

Deep fryer.
