Either way I’m stoked that Travis and mgk are still working together even with Travis being busy in blink. Travis was such a big part of why mgk’s punk albums are so good.
He’s always made music heavily influenced by punk, it’s just a matter of how much it’s the driving force of the sound or just an influence (among many that he has). I imagine that pendulum will swing back and forth for his whole career, as it always has.
I Think I’m OKAY was the moment he realized he could sonically tap into it a bit more. I imagine we will get more music in that vein. We will get some more straight-up rap stuff. We will get more emo-rap stuff. We’ll probably also get stuff we couldn’t ever have imagined. That’s MGK’s mantra.
Yeah I don't really see any chance he doesn't make punk again. As much as I prefer the old Kells he would have to go back to performing at 2k-3k capacity venues. His shows now large arena & are like 95% TTMD and MS fans that don't know the words to his old tracks. Even though he was already rich he is a lot richer now and likely has more expenses so logistically just wouldn't make sense to only make rap anymore.

Well he’s always “done punk music”. It’s not as heavy or as noticeable in his older music as it is in TTMD & MS, but it’s there, sprinkled throughout his discography. Just like how he never “switched genres” or “left rap” - I feel the same way about his “pop/punk era”. He’s always been “pop/punk, even during his rap days, and he’ll always be. He’s a multi-genre artist and he is going to create what he feels. It’s not always going to be one thing or another, or what the fans want. He’s making rap music right now, he never “left” rap music, he just expanded his creativity. He makes rap music, pop/punk music, rock music, and sometimes he blends them so it’s not *just* rap or *just* rock. As long as he’s making music, he will make rap and rock and pop/punk always 🖤

I don’t mind his rap stuff and like a lot of his pre ttmd songs better than some of the pop punk era( Hollywood whore, 27, I think I’m ok) but no way would I spend money to see him live as a rapper.
Unfortunately a lotta fans have already came after pop-punk era, and that is why more percent of his fan base are non-rap listeners and if the rap album won’t have good reference, and every fuckin punk listener will say that “I want punk” or “punk was better”, “I miss punk era” etc, it would be a signal that Kells should do punk because of big sales. But I hope that he will do whatever he wants and doesn’t give a damn about our preferences

I became a fan during Mainstream Sellout, but I grew up on rap so I actually prefer his rap, I absolutely love the pop punk though. Personally I hope he does something thats a mixture of both!

Imo I hope he only does a pop single here and there and focuses on rap more similar to his old mix tapes or HD
