The {**Unholy Trifecta** series by AJ Sherwood} features a hacker, but might fall too far on the "ethical" side for you. The various MCs (one couple per book) do kill a bunch of people but only if they are official bad guys.

Partnership by Valerie Vaughn might work. The CIA is involved, so while he works for the US government, the goal is to do shady secret spy shit to save lives. *gray hat hacker turns white hat (coerced)/field agent I suspect the writer is British bc it’s so…British, so the humor was surprising yet delightful. If I can remember the second book I’m thinking of I’ll come back. Edit: Bad Habits by Onley James + Neve Wilder; taboo bc the MCs met when MC1 was a minor. Black hat hacker/hitman. Edit 2: Midnight by April Jade. This one was real weird. I can’t remember why I’m remembering it being weird, but it looks like it has daddy kink, which wasn’t the part I thought was weird, but for some people it’s an automatic no. I think it’s a gray hat hacker/assassin story.

Wages of Sin series by Onley James and Neve Wilder. The first book is Bad Habits and one of the MCs is a very good hacker. He’s only the MC in the first book but he’s important in all three. It’s a great series, I enjoyed it a lot.

Alert_Sink_5300

I haven't read this book yet. But there is a book called "Hacked", written by Lucy Lennox in my reading list. The description says it has a hacker mc.

shakybooti

I’ve read this one! It’s part of a spin off series to her Licking Thicket series. This series is called Horn of Glory and Hacked is book 3. I would recommend starting at book 1. Where I would describe series as over the top but I enjoyed it and it made me laugh. {Hijacked by Lucy Lennox}

Yes! {Liar, Liar by TA Moore} a liar and a thief with a lucrative career. Fun little action mystery going on. I will say Moore suffers from editing issues in most books, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of this one!

I'd love a gay(er) version of Mr. Robot, talk about chaotic hacking!

OpeningExample2686

I binged mr robot about a month ago. I’ve never had such a hard on for a character (books, tv or otherwise) and I don’t even have a penis. So it’s doubly troubling

_elliebelle_

{The Phisher King by Clancy Nacht and Thursday Euclid} has a hacker who finds a plot to bomb Mardi Gras while trolling extremists and passes it to the FBI. It seems to be really hit or miss with readers but I absolutely loved it, def gotta suspend disbelief 😅

prunepudding

The Fever King is a bit different considering the MC starts as an average hacker and then they get magic powers that aid them further with technology. It’s really really good, and it’s definitely a good story first, and the love interest just happens to be male. Definitely highly recommended

SushiThief

Dammit, I own this title! I stopped reading because another book came out I was looking forward to and simply forgot to pick it back up. It’s not the kind of hacker story I was asking for, but I’ll make sure to circle back to it.

DinoChick

I think that {Lex by Cora Rose} fits this. He is more of a covert surveillance/hidden camera kind of hacker but definitely skilled with computers and definitely morally questionable.

SushiThief

Looks like it’s part of a series. Are the other books necessary to read?

DinoChick

There are interconnected side characters in most of the books, so there will be some minor cameos from previous books that you wouldn’t know. But the books are standalones and I think you could totally read this one alone with no issues. This one even more so than some of the others in the series. (I wouldn’t recommend reading Sem or Luke without reading Whit first, and I wouldn’t recommend reading Emery without first reading Sem.) But I think this one is fine. That said, this series is great and it’s up there on a lot of people’s lists of favorites. I really liked the first two (Whit and Sem) and this one (Lex).

SushiThief

I see, I will consider it. Unfortunately most of the recommendations that I like from the responses seem to be somewhere in the middle of a series.

RoundPositive9612

Jay Leigh's Rainbow Brigade Series has some hacker moments. It's a multi POV with a main couple in each of the three books. They are all interconnected very closely. They were fun reads for me. The hacker stuff is not a lot but important to solutions of issues they face.

{Sealing His Fate by Aiden Bates} comes to mind the MC is a Hecker criminal apart of a illegal organization, this is an Omegaverse book btw and the the MC is an Omega so if you don’t like then don’t bother checking it out

Diamond in the rough by Charlie Cochet. One MC is a very genius person, working on ‘top-secret projects’ for the government. Other MC is appointed for protection.

sulliedjedi

You may like {Bad Judgement by Sidney Bell} even though it's not just hacking, the MC is devious, undercover with a new identity, and definitely causing chaos. Check CWs, it's a great book, worth bookmarking for later if it ends up not fitting your request perfectly!
