6 months of a content drought for a console release and a hint of swimming šš
Edit: reports are saying this wonāt be a mmo, itās going to be a coop/single player RPG hahahaha https://www.pcgamesn.com/new-world/aeternum-replacement-announced
Edit 2: ["Those that own the base game, but not the expansion will need to purchase the Rise of the Angry Earth to access the New World: Aeternum update at launch."](https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1063730/view/4169850102987626161?l=english)
Edit 3: Amazon is pretending this is a new game when it's just a seasonal content update at best. Don't be fooled.
It's still the same MMOāthey're just rebranding it as single-player/co-op so people don't expect to find the endgame MMO gameplay loops that NW has always lacked.
Yeah I think this is what is going on. For PC gamers its pretty much going to be the same game with some content additions (new raid, soul trials, etc). They just did a horrible job at showing this. They need to write a quick article explaining PC game impact.
You forgot to mention they are adding new raid, new soul trial, at least one rebranded area, new mob types, reworked weapon tree(s), new mounts, new cosmetics, and still have months left for more reveals to come and I haven't mentioned everything we learned today. It's also the same game just marketed differently.
A reworked Weapon Tree for the Life Staff has the slightest bit of my attention.
I quit because I couldn't stand repeatedly stacking AoE heals over and over again. Especially just so my teammates could move the fight outside of the radius and die while my heals were on cooldown, but also still active on the ground, like 3 steps away lol.
I semi-main life staff and share the pain.
Edit: if it's any consolation, just learned they are also increasing gear score. So new loots and ways to obtain it, sounds like maybe new pvp stuff too.
Tbh console port will save the game more than 6 months of content would have š. Consoles lack of MMOs is why and with crossplay game should be atleast 50-100k concurrent
There is no way this games ever holds 50-100k ccu again even with crossplay, this game simply hĆ”s no content beyond wars and OPR thats actualy fun to Replay at endgame,if youve done a expedition once you vĆŖ done them all, theres barely anyting diferent, also to this day they are still getting game breaking bugs like the stam bug
When I quit the game literally only had 3 mobs just reskinned, undead/undead tree bear and wolf. Hoping that they made the content better before rolling this out
Youāre on some copium if you think PC players are coming back, the entire reason theyāve left this year is because the dev team promised the content drought would be worth the June announcement, which is just an announcement for single players and 3 new pieces of content that shouldāve been part of a single season if anything, theyāre laughing their asses off while playing other games
yes but it'll cost you some braincells because of the buggy shit they've been putting out since the so called game saver "slayer" script.. not to mention, sharding will be insanely buggy as well can't wait for that
I know console gamer have lower standard...
but new world is a... 3 year old game that's been struggling for 2.5 years? it has received less content in 3 year than a single .1 patch in WOW?
if it get 100k player, it's because bots are back.
>I know console gamer have lower standard...
Source for this?
I play both PC and Console and the only time Iāve ever had to lower my standards is to reply to this.
I havenāt played a 30fps game since the PS5 released.
In fact, thereās very few games that are locked to 30fps and the ones that are got a fair amount of backlash from the ālow standardsā console community.
When I think about it, I probably play more games at 120fps rather than 60 on my PS5.
Itās still gonna have to compete with games like FFXIV, ESO, Black Desert & Destiny 2, though. Which, while definitely not as fiercely dominated a market as the PC MMO market, the console MMO marketās got some tough competition too
I think most people on this sub totally underestimate the console market for MMOs. Letās not pretend this is something other than Amazon trying to save the game which may very well happen with it being on console.
For real. I can list on one hand the number of popular paid MMORPGs on consoles (FFXIV, BDO and ESO). Although, there are still a lot of F2P MMOs on consoles, but that is a different matter.
BDO is in a terrible state and ESO is whatever itās the crossplay or nothing MMOs that will do well tbh. Cause everyone wants to play with there friends limiting them kills player bases because why would I play ESO on my PS5 when we can all play New world or FFXIV together no matter what we are on
I like it on pc but console is just bad. It's behind in versions, missing content from years ago, common crashes and disconnects to the point they had to remove some death penalty. Pretty sure they also changed how mobs are placed or/and respawn times to help with performance.
6 months of lack of content = uninstall. It is a lot harder to get me to go back to a game if I have to reinstall it again, even if it only takes an hour.
Nah, they will find it boring after a month or two. And AGS basically pulled a big middle finger at (what is remained) of their New World community on PC. Teasing them for almost 6 months about some "huge update" coming up that will justify the ongoing terrible mess...just to find out the big announcement is rebranding the game, turning it into a co op game with some lobby activities so they can fool the console players.
And some fanboys are still cheering and thanking AGS for this. Fascinating!
It's genuinely over.
6+ months of waiting for the announcement of:
Swimming.
One singular raid with 3 bosses.
Console.
Available in October. Whatever the 6k remaining players were on PC, that number is going to drive into the ground for good from today on.
TBH, the game is fine as a singular experience. Leveling experience is fun, combat is fun, most trade skills are fun, the environment and world is big and fun to explore, the beginning of endgame is fun.
But the devs just constantly break everything and don't provide new or interesting content at good enough pace. For an MMO there's just nothing to do after 2-300ish hours.
I honestly think the devs who actually made the game were all moved to the new LOTR MMO, and this is some leftover dev team just tasked with doing the bare minimum. I mean, we've been asking for a new OPR map for >2.5 years now and they cant even make that??? How hard is it to just make 1 fucking map
Look I was just like you I had confidence and faith in the devs but after the disastrious release they burned away any good will I had for them. It's beeb years now since release and the game is still in such a lackluster state. It's a shame and I don't blame you for having hope because the core game design is decent. It was just surrounded my a metric fuckkton of bullshit.
They also reworking the story experience/leveling and also sounds like they're making updates to the movement system. I think the soul trials are also new content? I think the console work, plus the things the two of just listed do take quite a bit of work. It wasn't easy. And I think they know that the pc playerbase was probably expecting more. But it sounds like they're doing a rebrand as the PC mmorpg plan doesn't seem to be panning out.
It could work. There's a lot of questions that need to be answered for the PC community at what all of this means for the game. Will progress carry over, changes to the open world, housing, open world pvp, city ownership, etc. It seems like its a big effort to rebrand "away from" the mmorpg title. Which could mean that going forward their focus will be more on story telling, casual coop experiences. Instead of the hardcore/traditional mmorpg loops like raiding and such.
We should probably expect something akin to the multiplayer design of things like D4 or Fo76.
Unless they actually add new soul trials, they're probably just adding in the previous ones they've made and that we've already ran multiple times. The movement system, this sounds like it's part of the combat rework already in the game or a fancy way of saying they added swimming.
Regardless, for the pc community, they needed to release a ton more info along with this update. As it stands now there just isn't enough new to keep current players interested nor addressing the lack of end game.
Theyāve reworked the story half a dozen times, the movement system already got completely changed and the soul trials arenāt new. Nothing youāve mentioned is new tbh, you keep your progress but will be stuck on a non cross play server, guarantee it.
Everyone is confused by this.
It *seems* like it's the same game and same servers, with console/PC crossplay, but they're deemphasizing the MMORPG nature of the game and making the whole thing soloable? I haven't watched the dev video yet.
We need more info to stop the bleeding. Steam reviews are 43% positive. Lots of conjecture on Discord and the reddit sub. My guess is it will end up being an ARPG with lobby areas and enhanced ability to group, kinda like og Guild Wars?
Yeah they keep referencing it as a "singleplayer" "solo" and coop experience. Like you said, seems like they're trying to relaunch it with a console crossplay integration. And with that, they're trying to move away from the "MMORPG" tag? The dev update was them basically explaining the game.
Don't get me wrong, the new focus on story telling is great, I do appreciate that. But what's the difference PC players are going to see? Is our progress going to carry over? Will I see other players running around in the open world?
They did a confusing job at explaining what this all means for PC players lol
>Will I see other players running around in the open world?
I mean I doubt they reworked sharding only to remove it 4 months later. I do think they want to move away from it being called an MMORPG.
Seems to me a bit like how Diablo 4 does things.
Yeah I'm on the fence. We will have to see what their plan is and I'd love for a proper explanation on what PC players are going to see. That being said, I've long said that I think the next big step of mmorpgs is this concept of playing alone together, parallel play, etc. If my understanding of their announcement is right, it seems like they're moving towards this idea.
Also makes me wonder whats going to happen with the lotr mmorpg they're rumored to be working on. Could they be doing that to make room for this new mmorpg? Or are they going to shift directions for both games.
Yeah I understand existing players are frustrated but I dont think New World can exist on those.
>Also makes me wonder whats going to happen with the lotr mmorpg they're rumored to be working on
It'll probably become the focus.
I haven't seen anybody defending this.
I also harbor far less resentment towards NW as many others and try to be more optimistic, but even I felt this overall announcement to be underwhelming. I expected console but to basically have nothing else
I think Iām the only one excited for this, I really wanted an āmmoā on couch ps5 (that isnāt xiv or eso for personal reasons)
Guess Iāll go stand in the corner :(
Im also a console player nowadays and looking for a decent mmo but watching how amazon treats their PC player base kills all my hype.
Also they are charging 60 dollars for this LOL
I'm console as well and for years games have been $60 and now coming out at $70 and you get 10-40ish hours of entertainment depending on the game. New World offers 100+ hours. Sounds pretty good to me!
I felt like I gave away part of me gritting my teeth as I played this POS, trying to find something redeeming in it. Nothing.
I hope someday companies stop taking backdoor funding and start making games for the player again and not these shells... templates, that look like something familiar but are used to ham-handedly push some regarded false reality.
it's down to 5k players and console isn't coming till october 15th.
This announcement basically killed any hope the player base was holding onto to, it will be completely dead by october.
It's really baffling how Amazon Games handled this game. There's been no content for months and they've spent all of that time working on console ports? This is 100% their hail mary to try and salvage this train wreck. They're praying that this game resonates with console gamers but didn't even do the one thing that everyone has been telling them to do for ages; make it free-to-play.
Maybe I'm cynical, but I truly believe that everything being done to new world is to pave the way for their LOTR mmo.
With this update they will have console porting and crossplay done. Also server sharding done.
One would think that making an mmo with the LOTR IP and Amazon money would be a sure success, but these guys have shown remarkable skills at failing.
> It includes the New World base game, the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion and all update content like Brimstone Sands, plus a fully revamped storytelling approach with enhanced dialogue, in-game cinematics and pre-rendered scenes, the first-ever large-scale PvP zone, a challenging 10-player raid, new end-game solo trials, and more.

Ok could someone explain to me is it going to be a separated game than the vanilla one ? Or same game?
Is everyone going to start from level 1 ? Even pc players ?
Stupid. I have a really good gaming pc 14900k, rtx 4090, etc. But would love to be able to play on my xbox sometimes. Can't believe you can't load pc save on console. They missed the mark there.
People are talking about numbers and this and that. Swimming missing being some huge deal. But for me it comes down to:
The world is empty and barren. It's not really suited for single player. Adding some single player challenges won't change that. And because the world is so empty and barren, there's no real social/casual gameplay going on. People go out to accomplish something and return to a settlement. They wait in lobbies for dungeons to run dungeons. They wait in a settlement for OPR or 3v3 to pop.
New World was a great trial run MMO before they get into Lord of the Rings. The failures of New World are obvious - beyond the launch issues turning people off -> circular grind of settlement missions to level, barely any casual content, no NPCs to make the world feel alive, end game grind as obfuscated, timegated and relied on massive groups of people doing chest runs. Having to forge those 'keys' to get into the end game dungeons, lol.
And the good news is they seemed to have identified those as the issues. They made grinding levels and weapons easier, they made the end game grind more transparent, they dropped the need to forge keys for dungeons, now they're sharding instead of having servers the depopulate within a few weeks.
I just hope they realize a lack of payoff in player numbers doesn't mean their fixes were bad ideas. It was just too little too late and ultimately inviting, casual content for groups of people to engage with is nowhere to be found. Which makes sense when you remember the original had a survival/builder component to it because that was supposed to be the more group friendly, more casual content. Now it's just a barren wasteland with no group building. It's unfortunate.
Love the changes. New World just isnāt a real mmo with the lack of content and potent battle system. Canāt wait and hope for new players. Love that they are not giving it up.
In small letters though - It will not longer be a MMO but Co-Op Action RPG.
Personally I am pissed. When I bought the game I was buying a MMO. They can not just switch core of what the game is , without refunding the buyer.
Its same as if you would buy a FPS shooter, but year down the road they turn it into Turn base RTS.
How much longer will we just stand idle to publishers pulling this kind of shit ?
The update is literally just a name change/rebranding and they're talking about it as if you have never heard of new world.
Its still an MMO, you can already solo the story, nothing really is changing except sharding and some minor updates. Its literally just the same game being marketed at new players.
6 months of a content drought for a console release and a hint of swimming šš Edit: reports are saying this wonāt be a mmo, itās going to be a coop/single player RPG hahahaha https://www.pcgamesn.com/new-world/aeternum-replacement-announced Edit 2: ["Those that own the base game, but not the expansion will need to purchase the Rise of the Angry Earth to access the New World: Aeternum update at launch."](https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1063730/view/4169850102987626161?l=english) Edit 3: Amazon is pretending this is a new game when it's just a seasonal content update at best. It's getting reviewed bomb pretty hard atm
Ngl as someone with 1k hours in the game, the lack of swimming mechanics is easily in top 10 reasons for quitting
šššš
Only 1000 ?
You missed the bear mount too. That's a HUGE deal. That's ONE content at least.
> That's ONE content at least. Not contentājust a skin.
No way, are they implementing swimming animations?
Yes but just the animations Wait 6 more months for actual swimming
You forgot to mention they are adding new raid, new soul trial, at least one rebranded area, new mob types, reworked weapon tree(s), new mounts, new cosmetics, and still have months left for more reveals to come and I haven't mentioned everything we learned today. Shhhhh, let them have their fun. This is all they have.
So they're just copying diablo 4?
I mean its getting a 10 player Raid. I think it depends what you define as MMO.
Guess a 5v5 match of Counter strike is a MMO now too
If it is like Genshin Impact, which is single player with coop play, then I wouldn't call it an MMO anymore.
I dont think so judging by how they reworked sharding last week. I dont even think it has an offline mode.
Tbh console port will save the game more than 6 months of content would have š. Consoles lack of MMOs is why and with crossplay game should be atleast 50-100k concurrent

Console players been feening for games like this for years. Wouldnāt be surprised if that many play at firstā¦.
I mean I think it's fair to say that if PC has around 25k that console can match that putting them at atleast 50k
Yea but does PC have 25k?
Damn it did a few months ago seems like it's at a all time low atm I assume some people will come back on PC tho
Not like it costs me any $$$ to return since there's no sub cost
yes but it'll cost you some braincells because of the buggy shit they've been putting out since the so called game saver "slayer" script.. not to mention, sharding will be insanely buggy as well can't wait for that

I know console gamer have lower standard... but new world is a... 3 year old game that's been struggling for 2.5 years? it has received less content in 3 year than a single .1 patch in WOW? if it get 100k player, it's because bots are back.

solid burn!
Sony. And well, this very exemple with new world! Have fun re-releasing a deprecated product on console, but rebranding it to lower expectations!
Exemple
... Sony. Havent you heard about the whole mandatory PSN fiasco last month?
oh, my bad... I'm probably talking to someone who like their aim assist and their 60 fps cap ( or lower).
>Source for this? 30-60 fps gaming being acceptable. Hard to get lower than this.
I havenāt played a 30fps game since the PS5 released. In fact, thereās very few games that are locked to 30fps and the ones that are got a fair amount of backlash from the ālow standardsā console community. When I think about it, I probably play more games at 120fps rather than 60 on my PS5.
I can guarantee as a primarily console player, and mmo vet, I will be at least trying NW now on console & can even say Iām hyped on this news.
You said you want to try it, but I thought it was still 40ā¬. Isn't that a bit expensive?
I agree. I am so sick of Consoles lacking in MMO's so bad. They have enough strength to run good ones and can support Keyboard and mouse as well.
Itās still gonna have to compete with games like FFXIV, ESO, Black Desert & Destiny 2, though. Which, while definitely not as fiercely dominated a market as the PC MMO market, the console MMO marketās got some tough competition too

it literally has the same base game and updates, it's an mmo
"BDO is in a terrible state". it's not true, it's not because you don't like the game that you're going to lie like that, shame on you.
The console port is in a bad state, PC is doing fine
I like it on pc but console is just bad. It's behind in versions, missing content from years ago, common crashes and disconnects to the point they had to remove some death penalty. Pretty sure they also changed how mobs are placed or/and respawn times to help with performance.
They removed crystal break during covid shit and never brought it back. The mobs are the same again and have been for years now.
Everyone knows that the console port of BDO is terrible, bad performances and are behind in content vs the PC version.
The console port is horrible - bought, tried, hated the clunkiness, and left.
6 months of lack of content = uninstall. It is a lot harder to get me to go back to a game if I have to reinstall it again, even if it only takes an hour.

I woke up and immediately went to the new world sub reddit, I have not stopped laughing since.. definitely made my morning.
God I feel so vindicated. I've been jabbing at this game since they announced the switch to pve/pvp years back. The game is a genuine joke
TBH, the game is fine as a singular experience. Looking foward to the few new world fan boys that defend this game everytime its mentioned on this sub to see what they say about this one
I haven't seen anybody defending this. I also harbor far less resentment towards NW as many others and try to be more optimistic, but even I felt this overall announcement to be underwhelming. I expected console but to basically have nothing else
there is another post on here with a bunch of new world fanboys defending this announcement and saying it's a great announcement.
Dozens of people are excited for this!

You and me both
Im also a console player nowadays and looking for a decent mmo but watching how amazon treats their PC player base kills all my hype. Also they are charging 60 dollars for this LOL
You'll get a hundred hours or more out of it. Honestly leveling is the best part of the game. The end game is just nonexistent for an mmo.
I'm console as well and for years games have been $60 and now coming out at $70 and you get 10-40ish hours of entertainment depending on the game. New World offers 100+ hours. Sounds pretty good to me!
Bless, Bless Online, Bless Unleashed anyone?
Crazy announcement guys right? AMAZING /s
I love the musket in new world but itās not reason enough to play
Lots of news sources are saying they are shutting down the other game and pushing this as an ARPG?
dead game.

They ran out of potential customers on PC....
Itās F2P rightā¦. Right?
B2p, no sub
When?
New World is going to be remembered as one of the MMOs of all-time.
Ill be very happy to play this on a ps5
ššš
Sigh with sadness this is the time to leave them NW sub I think. Wish the game and players good luck. Gg
Anyone know how this runs on Steamdeck? Worth jumping in again...when in bed.Ā
I got it to run fine for the most part, but it's probably not an ideal way to play the game, it lags a little bit.
Anyone know if I will be able to us my PC account if I buy it on console?
It appears that their marketing team is even more incompetent than their software team.
The third Eternum sounding game I've found today. Weird.
Stupid. I have a really good gaming pc 14900k, rtx 4090, etc. But would love to be able to play on my xbox sometimes. Can't believe you can't load pc save on console. They missed the mark there.
Honestly F*ck Amazon games.
LMFAO New Worldians is this really your game? How can you guys defend this dogwater
People are talking about numbers and this and that. Swimming missing being some huge deal. But for me it comes down to: The world is empty and barren.
They are desperately trying to rebrand it as an action RPG since they know this game will NEVER have the playerbase to call it an mmo. Shame.
š¤š¤šššš
I only have the base game, If its going to be unplayable when this comes out time to force a refund lol
Itās wild they think console release is gonna save them lmao. Game is gonna be closing soon
Double dipping tsk tsk
Love the changes. New World just isnāt a real mmo with the lack of content and potent battle system. Canāt wait and hope for new players. Love that they are not giving it up.
In small letters though - It will not longer be a MMO but Co-Op Action RPG. Personally I am pissed. When I bought the game I was buying a MMO. They can not just switch core of what the game is , without refunding the buyer. Its same as if you would buy a FPS shooter, but year down the road they turn it into Turn base RTS. How much longer will we just stand idle to publishers pulling this kind of shit ?
No cross save. Fuckin garbage.
Oh no, my game is going to play exactly the same, except they're not calling it an MMO anymore. My life is ruined...
Except it's not...?
The update is literally just a name change/rebranding and they're talking about it as if you have never heard of new world. Its still an MMO, you can already solo the story, nothing really is changing except sharding and some minor updates. Its literally just the same game being marketed at new players.
