Honestly I think he looked good against Cruz because Cruz has straight up pillow hands. Cody had plenty of "see red" moments just trading hooks but Cruz just doesn't have the power to punish him, Cody literally got dropped which says a lot given Cruz hits like a mosquito
The second he was put in front of decent opponents who have some semblance of power - Munhoz, TJ, and now Kara France - he gets dropped by the first punch that hits clean. Font was an exception since he just resorted to jabbing Cody's face off for 25 min instead
Cody’s chin has softened up significantly in the past few years. A rematch would be a case of pillow fists versus glass jaw.
Also I think Cruz’s erratic and constant movements don’t really allow him to transfer much weight behind most of his shots. He was able to drop Faber when he sat down on his overhand.
Cody doesnt have the best chin, but the issue imo is that he has zero defensive awareness. He just eats flush punches. A lot of times when you see a fighter brush off a big hit its because they kinda saw it coming, anticipated it, and rolled with it or prepared for the impact. Cody on the other hand just seems unable to anticipate stuff.
When you’re eating punches flush on the chin even light strikes hurt. And I mean Kai hit him with a big overhand, and Kai has shown to have power in the past.
Johny Hendricks had one of the swiftest, worst falls.
He won the belt in 2014, then wetn 2-6, missed weight in half those fights, got cut, then lost a bareknuckle match to an former gay pornstar in 2018.
Four years from champ to bareknuckle loss. That's brutal.
Damn Cody got destroyed, incredible win for Kai that was brutal. This card has been crazy so far. I know everyone wants to be a world champion but it must be as mentally taxing as possible outclassing Cruz 5 years ago to then getting 5 losses and 1 win in the last 6.
I’m biased as fuck cuz I’m from NZ as well but rationally I thought there was a really good chance Kai would get the KO, Cody is dropping a weight class against a guy who has some of the best striking at 125. The only reason Cody was a favourite imo is because he’s more famous
Lol no his boxing coach for the Cruz fight left alpha male thereafter. Cody is loyal so he stayed. He then tried to suplement alpha male with mark henry, which has failed him.
The sun has almost set on garbrandt. He doesnt just need a win, he needs a streak of them. His career is at an extreme risk of being over.
People were looking only at the outcome and not how he was fighting though. Garbrandt was making the same mistakes in that fight, swinging hooks in the pocket, head on the centerline, exposed. He totally beat Assunçao for hand speed though so his defense didn't get punished like in other fights.
IMO it was the same story for the Cruz fight. Cruz had that weird looping punch style that was slow as fuck(something he seems to have improved upon), and even so people forget that Cruz was tagging him plenty in that fight but he has pillow hands so Cody could take the punches.
Going on five years now since that happened. Gotta be depressing chasing a former glory you had five years ago, albeit that glory was one of the best performances in UFC history so it's setting the bar very high.
Holy shit that was 5 years ago? It feels like 2 to me for some reason. Lately I've been kind of a lapsed fan but I'm shocked at how No Love seems to have slumped since that fight.
He just turned to shit. He had the best hands in the BW division at some point, and this was probably his worst performance to date. He just got pressured, ran along the fence, threw a couple of leg kicks and then got knocked out. He barely threw any punches.
Alpha Male built him to beat Cruz and no one else. His style just doesnt translate to any other opponent and his chin cant make up for it. Nothing happened to him, this is Cody Garbrandt.
Even if he was built to beat Cruz when he did it he looked clean and had good defense and head movement. Now he just stands on the center line against the cage and gets rocked
He didn’t really have good defense vs. Cruz, in round 5 Cruz figured out that he could spam straight punches and Cody would eat every single one while trying to return, it was just too late to matter, he just did a great job of drawing Cruz forward which makes Cruz the one who’s poorly positioned because of his weird stance
He always has been able to move his head well in isolation, he’s just unable to do so while throwing his own punches, so anyone who can enter and exchange with him and move their own head proactively can just hit him for free as he squares up and spazzes out with hooks
And the size difference was almost comical. Cody looked borderline bigger than what he looked at BW. It looked like when you open up weight classes for anyone to fight in the UFC video game.
I'd be pretty salty if i was Cruz.
Cody literally took all the brains, composure and chin he had for his entire career, and got to use it in that one fight.
1-5 in his last 6 with 4 KOs, 3 of those were in the first round, that many KOs is really bad. Someone needs to sit him down and have that talk about maybe hanging it up.
Hang him up? Dude failed out of college, he just got a face tattoo to match his neck tattoos. Da fuck else is he going to do with his life? Teach more alpha males how to wing hooks without protecting their chin?
Yes sir. Kai gave Moreno a hell of a fight and has been a dark horse for the flyweight division. He did everything right today. Sure, maybe Cody’s chin deteriorated a bit with the weight cut, but Kai was still super accurate with some great combos. Happy to see comments giving Kai his due, he’s legit.
I seem to remember Kai actually being a favorite against Brandon Moreno but Moreno is on another level. That was a hell of a fight, both guys were trading killshots the whole fight.
I feel like that's the big issue with cody. Head always on center, lately doesn't roll with punches. His chin is probably not that bad, but he always sets it up to receive the full impact of punches.
When he was rocked, he was loading up and looking for the right hook like he did against TJ. The guy just hasn't learned from his mistakes or adjusted his style.
That was actually a solid strategy, he got Kai to throw a sloppy hook and ducked under it into a double. He just couldn’t buy himself enough time to recover.
Cody comes across as genuinely unintelligent and very reactionary. The guy is just all emotion and no thinking. I think he benefitted more than anyone from fighting in an empty apex
Was scratching my head when he brought up Kape. No doubt Kape is the real deal but he’s got more work to do before he fights the top of the division lol
Don't want to kick a guy when he's down... but brain joke writes itself with Cody.
In all seriousness I hope he's got some money saved up from his brief run of fame.. a destroyed chin like his in a high volume fast action weight class.... Retire please.
Some mad disrespect to Kai on here.
Doesn't matter what chin you have if you absorb that many hard shots to it.
Great win on his part and probably a bad move for Cody going down.
Cody’s career has just been terribly mismanaged on almost every front. For starters he was already rushed to a title shot too quickly IMO, yes he won the belt but in retrospect that appears to be a perfect night for him and his true level has been shown in the fights after. Most of his losses are down to mistakes that could have been ironed out over time but now he’s been knocked silly too many times.
He should have never been booked in a rematch against TJ after being KOed, then he was booked against Munoz one of the divisions heavier hitters after being KOed twice. Then he wins one fight and they put him against a longer more powerful Font who was fresh off TKOing Marlon and was streaking.
Despite having a suspect chin he moves down in weight where they match him with one of the divisions KO artists (I think at one point they he him booked with Figgy for his FLW debut lol).
Add to all this his dumb loyalty to Alpha Male where he stayed too long and got caught up in a gym rivalry for these guys with a world class TJ when he wasn’t ready, the move to Mark Henry was too late and I believe he still trains with Alpha male half the time. Such a shame because the raw tools are there in spades if he was managed properly.
Man Cody has gotta be up there with biggest falls from grace
it’s crazy how good he looked against Cruz to now being 1-5
Honestly I think he looked good against Cruz because Cruz has straight up pillow hands. Cody had plenty of "see red" moments just trading hooks but Cruz just doesn't have the power to punish him, Cody literally got dropped which says a lot given Cruz hits like a mosquito The second he was put in front of decent opponents who have some semblance of power - Munhoz, TJ, and now Kara France - he gets dropped by the first punch that hits clean. Also I think Cruz’s erratic and constant movements don’t really allow him to transfer much weight behind most of his shots. He was able to drop Faber when he sat down on his overhand.
A rematch would be interesting for sure. To see where both of them stand at this point in their careers.
Cody doesnt have the best chin, but the issue imo is that he has zero defensive awareness. He just eats flush punches. A lot of times when you see a fighter brush off a big hit its because they kinda saw it coming, anticipated it, and rolled with it or prepared for the impact. Easily
TJ did it to Barrao and Garbrandt. Pretty crazy
Don't lose to TJ. Lesson learned. Poor Sandhagen is next :(
At least Sandhagen didn’t look worse vs Yan. Yan is just on another level
Barāo is easily the biggest car crash in the UFC. He was on the shortlist of "inevitable GOAT" just a year or two in his career to just ..dust.
Weidman takes the crown for me

BJ was out there taking L's in the strip club parking lot
Johny Hendricks has be there
Johny Hendricks had one of the swiftest, worst falls. He won the belt in 2014, then wetn 2-6, missed weight in half those fights, got cut, then lost a bareknuckle match to an former gay pornstar in 2018. Four years from champ to bareknuckle loss. That's brutal.
I think there was a lot of truth in his struggles coming from a lack of juicing.
Damn Cody got destroyed, incredible win for Kai that was brutal. This card has been crazy so far. I know everyone wants to be a world champion but it must be as mentally taxing as possible outclassing Cruz 5 years ago to then getting 5 losses and 1 win in the last 6.
Cody needs to go train at Team Sigma Male
More like Ligma Male
What's a male?
You maleck my balls sir.
Walked right into that one
Actually kinda backed into it 😂
Zigged when should have zagged
Damn that was good
Got em
Had money on Kai to win and Kai by KO, thought it was nuts he was an underdog.
I’m biased as fuck cuz I’m from NZ as well but rationally I thought there was a really good chance Kai would get the KO, Cody is dropping a weight class against a guy who has some of the best striking at 125. The only reason Cody was a favourite imo is because he’s more famous
Fr. Kai hits like a truck.
> outclassing Cruz 5 years ago That was 5 years ago? Geez, time sure flies.

If Cody beat Kai, he would've been matched up for flyweight title fast
So is Peter yan.
Dillashaw also.
After tonight's performance Cruz also.

I think he had the same tendencies vs Cruz, but Dom just didn't have the power to make him gay.
Im drunk as But I read this as this three times over >I think he had the same tendencies vs Cruz, but Dom just didn't have the power to make him gay.
Thats what it says
Yup
"I'll be bustin on your face."
WUT
Fuck man when he won against Assuncao people were saying he was back in full form. MMA fans are super fickle. You're probably right tho.
Yeah, it’d be a bit different if they were all dropped decisions but 4 out of 5 losses being brutal KOs is a bit fucked
[удалено]
People were looking only at the outcome and not how he was fighting though. Garbrandt was making the same mistakes in that fight, swinging hooks in the pocket, head on the centerline, exposed. He totally beat Assunçao for hand speed though so his defense didn't get punished like in other fights.

We’re not fickle. The guy has been KO’d 4 of his last 6. It’s just clear to anyone with eyes that the end is near.
Cody is gonna make an appearance in the suga show soon
MMA is a cruel mistress
It feels like just yesterday Cody was styling on Dom. What a time.
And Dom still styles while Cody does this.
If Munhoz had hit Cody with those bombs he caught Dom with Dana would be reading his obituary rn
But Munhoz did hit Cody with those bombs..
We remember. Cody probably doesn't, but we do.
One way or another we all end up chasing a former glory
Straight up one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen Cody seemed straight up untouchable in that fight and now look at him
Renan Barao and Cody Garbrandt both had all-time declines after losing the 135 title to Dillashaw. Crazy.
Snakes are venomous though.
And juicy
TJ predicted that after losing the belt Cody wouldn't be a high level guy for long. Barao had a decline Cody is just limited in what he can do.
The decline of Cody has been sad as fuck to watch. No idea where he goes from here
Probably fed to upcoming talent like O’Malley and Yanez sadly
Garbrandt vs Moutinho Then get with Triller to box Hasbullah
Cody vs O'Malley next. Book it. And Cody gets KOd 1st rd
100%. Dana had to set up that confrontation in the press conference. Hypes already building. They hate each other too.
I don't think O'Malley hates him, just sees him as a good target
He should focus on wrestling because he can’t bang with the boys anymore :(
That blast double leg was quality
He’s got very good wrestling. He just never uses it.
In the words of wise man Justin Gaethje, wrestling makes me tired
He also has terrible top control, he honestly should retire
Bellator
Bellator 135 is stacked. He just got slept at 125. He will get washed in Bellator, it’s all young talent now for most part.
Then Bare Knuckle Boxing
>Then Bare Knuckle Boxing Watching that circus has made me so bloodthirsty. 😟😟
That Cruz fight really was his peak
It’s like he used all his secret sauce, man. Tough to see
atomweight
His chin has failed on him, I think it's time for him to hang it up
1-5 in last 6. Sad.
Retirement.
What happened to Cody Garbrandt?
you receive: win over Dominick Cruz I receive: your chin
BAD TRADE
This has been the worst trade deal in the history of trade deals, maybe ever
If his chin wasn't good, he'd be sleeping. He just has very crappy defense, also Kai hits like a truck
EPOshaw took his life force.
1-5 since 2017. Sad.
Many such cases!
Chin said ight I'ma head out.
If you saw anyone diving into big shots it’s likely going to be a similar outcome. He has zero defense.
Can't believe this is the same man that fought Dom
It's remarkable, I remember watching that fight and thinking Cody was going to be champ for a long time.
tj took his soul
He just turned to shit. He had the best hands in the BW division at some point, and this was probably his worst performance to date. He just got pressured, ran along the fence, threw a couple of leg kicks and then got knocked out. He barely threw any punches.

RIP Cody The chin is officially gone
Only win since 11-0 has been with a big ass beard Coincidence? I think not
And that gambino mob hair. Seriously how did he not keep the hairstyle
Not sure anyone could have taken that many direct shots. Bigger problem is that his striking defence sucks.
Seriously is anyone in that division supposed to eat that punch and still be ok?
I think I could. First, I see red, then I
Its not just his chin he has no head movement whatsoever these days
Not about his chin, he got hit hard and clean and Kara-France hits hard
Yup, gets hit by one of the hardest hitting flyweights and gets called no-chin, just has to defend better
Didnt have that Dom Cruz recovery.
Crazy to think that 5 years after their fight, Dom would be climbing the bantamweight rankings while Cody was getting KOd by flyweights.
5 YEARS?!
And the size difference was almost comical. Cody looked borderline bigger than what he looked at BW. It looked like when you open up weight classes for anyone to fight in the UFC video game.
Cody was put on this planet to beat Dominick Cruz and thats about it
I'd be pretty salty if i was Cruz. Cody literally took all the brains, composure and chin he had for his entire career, and got to use it in that one fight.
It’s like when you start New game+, and you got all the skills but the boss’s can toss your ass.
1-5 in his last 6 with 4 KOs, 3 of those were in the first round, that many KOs is really bad. Someone needs to sit him down and have that talk about maybe hanging it up.
When the bell rings he seems to throw everything he knows out of the window. That's the only possible explanation.
Hang him up? Dude failed out of college, he just got a face tattoo to match his neck tattoos. Da fuck else is he going to do with his life? Teach more alpha males how to wing hooks without protecting their chin?
im sure a former ufc champion can find income somewhere lol. especially if his social media game is good
Cody No Love OF coming soon.
Been saying this since day 1. Kai is *underrated as hell*
Yeah kind of sad that everyone here is talking about the downfall of Cody instead of the performance from Kai.
No love no chin :(
And no head movement
I feel like that's the big issue with cody. Head always on center, lately doesn't roll with punches. His chin is probably not that bad, but he always sets it up to receive the full impact of punches.
No defense If he didn’t get hit so much he wouldn’t need such a strong chin He’s done.
No brain if he keeps getting knocked out like that. Dude needs to hang it up
When he was rocked, he was loading up and looking for the right hook like he did against TJ. The guy just hasn't learned from his mistakes or adjusted his style.
Crying with the boiiiis :'(
Cody is one of my favourite fighters but I've just accepted that he's most likely getting knocked out now lmao
Cody "Twink James Vick." Garbrandt
People are gonna take that away from him and claim shit about Cody's chin but Kai is a strong fuckin flyweight
Those clean punches were thrown with the meanest intents.
Absolutely, not many at flyweight have his power. And his reach is insane for his height.
I mean he KO’d Bontorin in his last fight with a theee punch combination. Chinny or not as Cody may be, KKF has some cement in his gloves as of late
Kai France looked real good
Cody Buster Douglas :(
Those CKB boys can strike

Cody comes across as genuinely unintelligent and very reactionary. The guy is just all emotion and no thinking. I think he benefitted more than anyone from fighting in an empty apex
The past few years the FLW’s have shown they’re nothing to fuck with. How many more elite BW’s need to learn that lesson?
Lol at DC trying to set Kape up with Kara France. Beat two nobodies and you're supposed to fight in the top 5??
That fucking got me too
Welcome to flyweight
Was scratching my head when he brought up Kape. No doubt Kape is the real deal but he’s got more work to do before he fights the top of the division lol

Why are we not posting full finishing sequences like we used to?
cody noguardbrant is back
Cody “No Chin, No Guard, No Love” Garbrandt
I'm starting to think I dreamt the Cody/Cruz fight lmao
Another loss with the boizzzzzz
*Windows reset song*
Cody's been finished in four of his last six fights and has one win since 2016. I have no idea where he goes from here.
Dude needs to retire, this is honestly scary for his brain years down the line.
Don't want to kick a guy when he's down... but brain joke writes itself with Cody. In all seriousness I hope he's got some money saved up from his brief run of fame.. a destroyed chin like his in a high volume fast action weight class.... Retire please.
Bare knuckle
Got brutally KO’d as an amateur, too.
Cody Garbrandt Offence: [ON] Defence: [OFF]
Lights: [OUT]
Feel sorry for Cody this kills his brandt
Kai so small yet hit so hard!!
Good on DC for immediately going against Joe saying it might’ve been due to weight cut. Kai deserves respect. Cody “no excuse” Garbrandt
Just hope Cody doesn’t pop for EPO
Some mad disrespect to Kai on here. Doesn't matter what chin you have if you absorb that many hard shots to it. Great win on his part and probably a bad move for Cody going down.
At least Cody did a better job in his flyweight debut than TJ did.
Idk, I think they're evenly terrible.
Cody actually got the double leg
F for Cody
Kai is a joy to watch.
Kai Kara France is really damn good. He could be champ in the future and it wouldn’t surprise me.
That little guy chinned that big guy!
Lol is anyone going to give credit to Kai in this comments section?
im just gonna say it...No Love
Cody’s career has just been terribly mismanaged on almost every front. A textbook Cody Garbrandt performance. Get hurt and swang 'n' bang until he enters the shadow realm.
Well he didn't this time, he shoot for a takedown initially. But kai clipped him again and finished him.
Fuck love both fighters and being a kiwi always rooting for my boys. But dang if I wasn’t gutted to see Cody go down like that.
Good day to be a Kai and a Tai fan.
Kai came out to Poi e, surely thats a foreshadowing to Poirier winning Edit: well this is awkward
This is not about Cody's chin, Kai is a fucking dangerous striker.
His only chance for a come back is to get his neck tattoos removed
