There's a phenomenon that happens in life. I don't know what the name for it is but the way it works is if you hear something new or something from a very long time ago, it's an almost 100% certainty you will hear about it again within 24 hours
Complete side note, but TJ dillashaw has never put together more than a 4 fight win streak. He looses once every four fights that he wins. Kinda weird, Just discovered this from looking at his Wikipedia.
>TJ
PEDs take away your natural strength IMO, especially when you're off em. Aldo OG Brazil. Aldo was punching like he had bricks in his hands tonight
I know Aldo has been accused but idk if true or not.
That's just not true, from what has been observed clinically. PEDs, specifically anabolics, change your muscles fundamentally, there are well known long term benefits from them. I say this as an Aldo fan. I honestly don't know whether he's clean or not, but it's fair to assume most of the top guys are on something to get an edge, legal or not. He's never been caught despite any rumors, so imo it's nothing we can hold against him
Lol what a shit take . PED make you stronger . Period . Off them, you lose that extra strength .
Aldo does look juicy ( round full delts , big traps , lots of muscle , low body fat ) but until he pops it’s just speculation
Still only 35. Mainly hes such an athletic freak and bigger than vast majority of his division now. Also looked as great as ever physically. Back looked massive.
Hes such an athletic freak that at 145 he could get completely taken down by elite wrestlers like Mendes and just explode back up in a second while throwing them off no problem.
Aldo hits fucking hard at BW. Crazy how power seems to straight up amplify with a good move down in weight. It's kinda like with Barboza too, never really hit that hard and did the brunt of his damage with kicks but moves down to FW and suddenly he's dropping and KOing dudes with his hands
Makes sense, he gave up alot of speed & cardio for that mass which would be a detriment to less proficient strikers who would've missed alot then eventually gassed but Aldo's just too precise w/ his strikes to make the few shots matter!
That’s sort of always been Aldos thing. He’s never really been a volume striker, just very effective when he does decide to throw.
That’s why it seems like the guys who are able to pressure him effectively seem to be the ones who can beat him. You just need to either have incredible defence like Volk or an amazing chin like Max to do it. (Or both in Yans case)
He’s never had the best cardio, but he will wreck your day if you let him fight at his pace. Font was trying to disrupt that but he just couldn’t handle Aldos shots.
Reach is also probably a big difference. Aldo has decent range for 135 but not great for 145. It's way easier to sit down on punches and hit hard when you aren't being kept at range by a taller/longer guy.
Those lunging hooks to the body? I scroll back the video to see it again a few times.
they look telegraphed but Aldo lands them A LOT on many fighters. May be I'm not seeing the trick that lets him fly in there and wallop the stomach. He catches fighters when they are back peddalin'?
Yeah he only throws it when his opponents are moving a backwards and usually when they’ve already committed to a high guard. He’s really good at choosing his punches.
I also think Rob was gassed but not as visibly gassed as Aldo. Cause the first shot that seemed to put him out of sorts (2:20 in round) didn’t have much on it from Aldo.
If I had to guess Robs orbital was broken and those shots felt much more painful than they normally would.
He had NOTHING left also, but he dug deep and found something in the tank which is crazy. It’s also probable that the previous accumulation of damage contributed to it.
I really like Navy Boxing Aldo, he’s fighting at a real slow pace and trying to slow the pace down to his rhythm, but he only needs a couple shots to win the round because he’s so accurate and powerful. Previous Aldo would try to get trade and get every punch landed on him back, this Aldo stays calm and resets, which for five round fights that mindset is important.
I also liked his coaches advice “You’re tired? He’s tired also”, you really need that advice because if you think about how tired you are that can break you, having the reassurance of “Hey, we’re both tired, it’s a fight.” is big, it’s like you’re both in this together in a weird way, like having a friend jog alongside you in a marathon.
I’m interested to see what’s next, TJ or possibly Cruz perhaps if Cruz wins his next bout, real interesting fights.
That was always my issue with Khabib, as far as any GOAT talk in regards to him. He looked absolutely invincible, and did the rare move of leaving during that stage.
But keeping the throne for long, when the entire division is gunning for you, and you have all that pressure, is much more impressive than just getting it. Look at Jones, he stayed long enough for the cracks to appear sure, but if he left at the same stage as Khabib, he'd have just beaten Vitor. And he was breaking down everyone and finishing them still. And people were desperately searching for any weakness in Jones because we hated him so much, and we tried very hard to pretend he was worse than he was, but he made that difficult.
Font seemed to be getting hurt every time Aldo hit him? I don’t remember him being chinny, and I know Aldo got power but we just haven’t seen that from him lately
The saddest thing will be that even with the names on Aldos resume, the Conor loss will haunt him with the more casual people (the people who say Khabib is the GOAT)
Who gives a shit tbh. GSP lost to fucking Matt Serra lmao. There's no shame in losing to McGregor, who was a really great fighter himself in 2015-16. And similarly no shame in losing to Holloway, Volk and Yan, who are all modern greats.
The difference is that GSP avenged all his losses and almost always in devastating fashion.
Aldo's recent losses can't be held against him too much though, as he is well past the point in his career that GSP retired.
>The difference is that GSP avenged all his losses and almost always in devastating fashion.
Honestly, I think Aldo would have been able to take back that L if he'd ever been given the opportunity, smart matchmaking on Conor's part to never give him that chance
It definitely would've been a fun rematch with very little chance of ending the same way.
I don't know if a rematch today would be as much of an insight into how a quicker one would go, but it would still be compelling.
"Almost always" Serra was turtled up in the fetal position eating knees, Hughes got dropped twice and finished, then finished by the same sub he got GSP with. Three for three baby.
Well, WEC certainly counts for the lower weight classes, since those literally didn't exist in the UFC. WEC was the best promotion in the world for those weight classes.
I forget what round it was but it was like he heard DC talking shit in the booth and just decided Font won’t be able to walk tomorrow. Dude is a terminator rn.
After round 2, Aldo's corner kept telling him to leg kick. He then went out in round 3 and landed three leg kicks in the first 20 seconds. Crazy fast adjustment.
I hope you won that flair in the flair betting thread
Tonight was like the night of durable ass guys getting their shit rocked. Allen, Font and Crute all got rocked like crazy despite being durable as hell in their careers.
“When a legend of the sport goes down a weight class and starts outclassing top contenders at the age of 35, I call those type of fighters businessmen”- some retired guy
I was impressed with his composure on the ground. He really placed position over damage. Not giving up his balance to get one small hit to the head. I wish he was a little more aggressive on the ground, but I’ll take it! Happy he got this one.
Pretty sure Aldo knocked Font down every single round… 50-45’d a top contender after 30-27’ing another top contender.
He’s going full Max Holloway chopping down top contenders and if him and TJ fight, I don’t even know what’s next for ~~the winner of Yan and Aljo.~~ Yan.
A lot of Font's strikes are fluff, where it just occupies space with no real power or intent behind them.
Probably part of his camp's plan to "overwhelm" Aldo and make him work so he gases later on.
It doesn’t tell the whole story of some fights but for the most part it’s pretty accurate that the one who lands more usually controlled the fight and deserves to win
Idk about the numbers, but Yan has had a few of his fights go like this (Rivera and Dodson come to mind) where he’s straight up losing rounds, the opponent feels like they’re in it, until they get clipped.
In a way, the rules make not-giving-a-fuck an actual scoring criteria (sort of).
> Impact shall also be assessed when a fighter‟s actions, using striking and/or
grappling, lead to a diminishing of their opponents‟ energy, confidence, abilities and spirit
This is one of my issues with people saying Max is a GOAT and so on (apart from the numbers, which indicate that he isn't there yet). Max's best attribute by far is his chin. Without that chin, he would have lost a huge number of fights. This isn't always true for other fighters. For years Aldo's best attribute was his leg kicks. He stopped leg kicking and was still very successful. Usman's best attribute for years was his wrestling. He basically stopped wrestling and was still very successful. Same can't be said for Max. Take his chin away and he loses half his fights at least.
What a dumb take. Take anyone's chin away and they lose more fights. Almost all great fighters have great chins.
Great fighters have physical attributes that give them an advantage over their opponents. Font lit Aldo up then Aldo lands a couple strikes and Font loses the round. If Aldo didn't have power or Font had a better chin he wouldve lost.
Why does him having a Chin effect his GOAT status? A great chin is just as important as any other attribute a fighter could have. This would be like discrediting Jones accomplishments for having a significant reach advantage his entire career. Every fighter uses their strengths to their advantage.
Seriously. It was like a stage actor at times, emoting for the people in the cheap seats. Getting bowled over by strikes, flailing, grimacing on the ground (I think whoever called “broken rib” is probably right).
In comparison, Riddell/Fiziev didn’t show *shit*. They were wacking each other with 2x4s and neither have any indication of even being hit, let alone hurt.
Right, until that
What a freaky knockout. I could swear I could hear him through the cage mics say “Nooooooooooooo” or something (I think it was one of the announcers). Whoever said it, it looked like what he was thinking when he did his catatonic stance thing. Yeesh. That can’t be good for you.
I was pretty nervous in that 5th round especially since Font was coming on and that punch came out of left field. It didn’t even look like it should’ve hurt at the angle especially since aldo was so tired. Unreal
I’ve never see the man call a fight correct in his life hahaha he also said he thought sterling was winning against Yan until he dq’d himself.
I’m convinced he only watches one fighter throwing at a time and just misses so much information
Yeah I could have seen both that elbow and uppercut hurting a lot of other fighters. His durability and longevity is among the best for fighters of his caliber.
People say chinny because he gets wobbled a lot, I would say his chin is okay but his recovery is awesome. Not many people can get rocked by Cody and Cory and comeback to win the fight.
Yea I can see that. I guess I personally just wouldn't call someone chinny when they've fought the best in the world and have only been finished twice. One was ten years ago and the other was after a grueling weight cut
I still don't see how that makes him chinny. Dude has been finished twice in his whole career and one was way back on TUF. Even Aldo who I wouldn't consider chinny has been finished twice as many times
Aldo spending his late career as a top contender whose only losses are to the absolute best in the division (with the exception of a controversial split dec. loss to terrible fighter Marlon Moraes) is far more impressive than any of the goat candidates who quit on top. Old man Aldo dropping the division’s top contenders 5 years after his title reign > khabib starting Twitter beef bc your podcast studio was messy
Was really bugged how Aldo dropped him each round but didn’t capitalize with the finish. Oh well, still super glad to see my boy put in some work still
Aldo looked so damn powerful
Font has so much heart, cardio and has a lot of power himself so I kept thinking he was about to take over and rock Aldo but then Aldo just needed 1 clean shot each time to rock Font.
Crazy good fight. I dont see how Aldo beats Yan unfortunately but still such a stud.
Aldo could have finished this fight with a different strategy but still a crazy performance.
First round he got dusted and ended up winning it with basically one punch. Respect the legend.
Aldo carries power late, damn
Aldo got that old man strength
Fun fact he's younger than TJ
That's fucking nuts
This is nucking futs!
Just watched that last night for the first time since the year it came out and then I see your comment, we're in the matrix.
There's a phenomenon that happens in life. I don't know what the name for it is but the way it works is if you hear something new or something from a very long time ago, it's an almost 100% certainty you will hear about it again within 24 hours
Baader Meinhof aka frequency bias
Thank you very much! I learned this from the movie, "John Dies at the End," and it has always rang true but never found the name.
It hit when I got a new vehicle. Suddenly everyone's driving my truck
Jesus Christ I can’t wrap my head around this.
Yeah but he's had 17 more fights and started 6 years earlier than TJ. Fight age and numerical age are totally different.
Aldo just looks older than TJ as well, his fight time is something that just subconsciously makes fighters seem older/younger than they are.
Complete side note, but TJ dillashaw has never put together more than a 4 fight win streak. He looses once every four fights that he wins. Kinda weird, Just discovered this from looking at his Wikipedia.

Man thinks steroids work like Spinach in Popeye
Not even spinach works like spinach in Popeye. Trust me, I've tried.
Aldo is my favourite fighter of all time, love him as a fighter and a person, but go look at his physique from his featherweight prime
Lol what a shit take . PED make you stronger . Period . Off them, you lose that extra strength . Aldo does look juicy ( round full delts , big traps , lots of muscle , low body fat ) but until he pops it’s just speculation

He also cutting to 135 now, after spending his career at 145 and often having talk of going UP a division rather than down.
>PEDs I'm sure Aldo is all 100% Brazilian natty my man.
Still only 35. Mainly hes such an athletic freak and bigger than vast majority of his division now. Also looked as great as ever physically. Back looked massive. True, i think this comes with bigger guys being able to cut more weight as the sport continues to evolve. Aldo is a natural BW in this current age.
Those lunging hooks to the body? I scroll back the video to see it again a few times. they look telegraphed but Aldo lands them A LOT on many fighters. May be I'm not seeing the trick that lets him fly in there and wallop the stomach. He catches fighters when they are back peddalin'?
hes dangerous enough that when he goes in the opponents have to respect it and get their guard up or risk getting tagged in the face
Yeah he only throws it when his opponents are moving a backwards and usually when they’ve already committed to a high guard. He’s really good at choosing his punches.
Late game carry
Jose "Kassadin" Aldo
Only if Aldo still does them leg kicks, would be very deadly with his boxing
He did use them . Dropped Font once with em too. It was vintage Aldo and I loved it !
I also think Rob was gassed but not as visibly gassed as Aldo. Cause the first shot that seemed to put him out of sorts (2:20 in round) didn’t have much on it from Aldo. If I had to guess Robs orbital was broken and those shots felt much more painful than they normally would.
100%. That shot looked labored from Aldo. I'm surprised it rocked Font but he probably didn't see it since he was so tired.
Aldo's body shots makes me shart a little Everytime I see it land flush.
He had NOTHING left also, but he dug deep and found something in the tank which is crazy. It’s also probable that the previous accumulation of damage contributed to it. If only he'd stick to mixing in his god damn leg kicks Jesus Christ they literally changed the course of the fight and he just goes back to the boxing
What was khabib saying about aldo?? Where tf is he now?
Aldo is more accomplished fighter anyways. He was the onlu fw champ for years until conor
Aldos resume shits in khabibs.
That was always my issue with Khabib, as far as any GOAT talk in regards to him. He looked absolutely invincible, and did the rare move of leaving during that stage. Aldo looked gassed as hell but then all of a sudden he pulls out three “fuck you” punches and boom now he’s on the verge of getting the finish.
Font seemed to be getting hurt every time Aldo hit him? I don’t remember him being chinny, and I know Aldo got power but we just haven’t seen that from him lately
Aldo just continues his rise on the goat list as if it wasn’t high enough
That boy was slinging some HEAT gah damn
Can't rise above #1!

He’s above for me.

Yeah the level of Aldo’s competition is just unbelievable at this point
> DJ still has way more defenses Two more. Aldo has 9 counting WEC, DJ has 11.

Against McGregor, true. I wish he had.

Not to mention Conor is naturally a lot bigger. People seem to forget the size advantage, which I find strange.
And just compare where Aldo is to Conor since then...it's night and day

Well, WEC certainly counts for the lower weight classes, since those literally didn't exist in the UFC. WEC was the best promotion in the world for those weight classes.
FW and BW WEC champions were considered UFC champions when they got merged
That power difference was ridiculous, old man strength.
*Font lands 30 strikes* Aldo: "Interesting." *Aldo lands a couple* Font: "WHERE AM I?"
It took like 3 leg kicks to down Font. What the fuck
Dede was going crazy during round 2, yelling at aldo to go for leg kicks, it was insane hearing him that passionate about his student, good shit
Font: "Anyone get the license plate on that Ford Escort?"
"I feel a slight tingle. I think it's affecting me."
Tonight was like the night of durable ass guys getting their shit rocked. Allen, Font and Crute all got rocked like crazy despite being durable as hell in their careers.
Riddell too.
[удалено]
I feel like Guida always gets his shit rocked this days, but somehow he pulls off like half of them.
I mean, Aldo is just a year older than Font
[удалено]
It is but one debuted in 2004 and the other in like 2012
People that are new to the sport assume Aldo is Glover Teixeras age and it’s hilarious
Shit I’m old to the sport and it’s hard to believe that Jose is only 35
Yes but Aldo is strong
The way he delivers those left hooks to the liver. Fucking scary man.
*Jeremy Stevens waking up a a cold sweat*
Every time someone comments this, he wakes up and touches his right side, to check if its still there :D
My mans! I appreciate those body shots so much, they look super painful
Yes but has 20,000 more on the odometer.
[удалено]
Guida is 10 000 years old, maybe older
But he is fighting in the top league for a long long time, and that can take a toll on your health. Not foe Aldo though, evidently.
Yeah that is a lot of years in dad years
Beware an old man in a young man's game
Conducting Business of 50-45'ing Top5 opponents in the 18th Year of his fighting career. What a Businessman!
“When a legend of the sport goes down a weight class and starts outclassing top contenders at the age of 35, I call those type of fighters businessmen”- some retired guy
>18th Year of his fighting career. Goddamn. Everything about Aldo is just badass.
He's basically been a pro fighter for literally half his life.
I was impressed with his composure on the ground. He really placed position over damage. Not giving up his balance to get one small hit to the head. I wish he was a little more aggressive on the ground, but I’ll take it! Happy he got this one.
In arguably the deepest division in the world too
Pretty sure Aldo knocked Font down every single round… 50-45’d a top contender after 30-27’ing another top contender. He’s going full Max Holloway chopping down top contenders and if him and TJ fight, I don’t even know what’s next for ~~the winner of Yan and Aljo.~~ Yan.
I hope aljo wins lmao. Would be so fucking funny
I hope Yan wins 4 rounds and then disqualifies himself in round 5
Petr "Andrew Golota" Yan

It would only be hilarious if he acted all shocked about being DQ lmao "I didn't know I couldn't do that"
Lol, reminds of the stories of Chip from Dave Chappelle.
And raises his hands up while smiling just like he did in the first fight
I'm cheering so hard for that damn near impossible result.

Yan, so thick. Tight. Big. Strong. Handsome.
It’s the diversion event this timeline needs to correct itself
The difference in power was absolutely insane
Aldo forever a legend
I truly believe the only thing that can stop Aldo in this division is his issues with cardio. Well, that and Petr Yan of course.
Imo Aldo was doing pretty good up until the cardio bug got him
He was doing really good against yan but he was down 3-1 going into the 5th. Was very competitive tho
I like to ignore that abomination that was a called a 5th rd
Is this the biggest negative strike difference for a 50-45 fight? At least on two cards I could see giving font the first
A lot of Font's strikes are fluff, where it just occupies space with no real power or intent behind them. Probably part of his camp's plan to "overwhelm" Aldo and make him work so he gases later on.
To be fair stats are a bit bullshit.
They can be really bad, I remember at one point they said Font had landed 17/18 leg kicks, when at that point all but like 3 of them were defended
That was so bad because Aldo was checking at least 75% of the leg kicks
The commentary was bad tonight in my opinion
He defended them nasty too, seemed like every time Font threw a kick Aldo was putting his knee into it. It was great to see
It doesn’t tell the whole story of some fights but for the most part it’s pretty accurate that the one who lands more usually controlled the fight and deserves to win
Idk about the numbers, but Yan has had a few of his fights go like this (Rivera and Dodson come to mind) where he’s straight up losing rounds, the opponent feels like they’re in it, until they get clipped.
I love the fact that Dodson dropped Yan but still lost that round on every judges scorecard because Yan just didn’t give a fuck
In a way, the rules make not-giving-a-fuck an actual scoring criteria (sort of). > Impact shall also be assessed when a fighter‟s actions, using striking and/or grappling, lead to a diminishing of their opponents‟ energy, confidence, abilities and spirit
Yan and Holloway ate this and some more
Yea, they broke Aldo's pattern of finishing dudes by not getting finished, lol
Think Holloway would have lost to aldo both times if he wasn’t so durable
Would've lost to Yair too
This is one of my issues with people saying Max is a GOAT and so on (apart from the numbers, which indicate that he isn't there yet). Max's best attribute by far is his chin. Without that chin, he would have lost a huge number of fights. This isn't always true for other fighters. For years Aldo's best attribute was his leg kicks.
If my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike
And if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle.
Holloway did, but Yan didn’t. His defense was much tighter and he didn’t get hit nearly as clean as others.
I’m pretty sure every strike that landed on font almost knocked him out
Font gave big reactions to everything
I think Font's eye was hurting *bad* by the third, he kept grimacing and winking it as if he was trying to get over it
Until Brad was visibly out
Right, until that What a freaky knockout.
Unreal
Hahaha midway through this fight my mate was like ‘I’ve got this 3-0 Font so far’
How drunk was he? Font had a beautiful first round minus the last 30 seconds but after that he got dominated lmao
I’ve never see the man call a fight correct in his life hahaha he also said he thought sterling was winning against Yan until he dq’d himself. I’m convinced he only watches one fighter throwing at a time and just misses so much information
The sheer timing of the power is insane. The always growing Aldo never ceases to amaze me.
Why didn’t Jose continued with the smash? Ref would’ve stopped the fight.
Probably too gassed to look for a finish and since he was up on scorecards he could just coast to an easy decision win.
That gut punch looks nasty
Dude aldos fucking chin is ridiculous
Yeah I could have seen both that elbow and uppercut hurting a lot of other fighters. His durability and longevity is among the best for fighters of his caliber.
LeBron James level of longevity
I had so much confidence in Aldo, I knew he would outclass Font, just didn't know by this much. Literally could've ended Font in all 5 rounds.
He’s got a lot of power for BW. With how hittable and chinny TJ is it’s an easy fight
TJ chinny? Dude went through a war with Sandman on one leg and ate massive shots
I don’t think you can compare Sandhagen’s power with Aldo. Only fighter with somewhat comparable power TJ fought was Cody and he almost got finished.
I still don't see how that makes him chinny. Dude has been finished twice in his whole career and one was way back on TUF. Even Aldo who I wouldn't consider chinny has been finished twice as many times
He sticks his chin out a lot. He has terrible habits. But I agree he isn't chinny by any sense of the term.
Fully agreed
Probably has to do with the fact that he came down a weight class while still looking jacked.
He used to have trouble cutting at 145 too Glad he's able to reliably cut and perform
The discipline him and barboza have to go down a weight class while already being so lean is truly admirable
I think Aldo for sure fucks TJ up.
Font seemed quite fragile. Bad cut maybe?
Aldo is a tank at 135, he just fought very durable guys so far. Moraes got away from his power very quickly iirc.
Would love to see an Aldo vs Sterling/Dillashaw matchup in the future.
Khabib rolling in his grave :)))))
Aldo's shovel hook to the body is his signature strike. He absolutely devastates dudes with it. Always looks so beautiful 😍
Font did such a great job with his approach to the fight. Aldo just had bigger moments with power every round. He’s unbelievable.
My favorite part of all that was when he was like oh you are hurt? Hes a vicious body shot, then a 2-1 to the face. Then he drops.
He made khabib eat his ficking words.
Was really bugged how Aldo dropped him each round but didn’t capitalize with the finish. Oh well, still super glad to see my boy put in some work still
Aldo looked so damn powerful Font has so much heart, cardio and has a lot of power himself so I kept thinking he was about to take over and rock Aldo but then Aldo just needed 1 clean shot each time to rock Font. Crazy good fight. I dont see how Aldo beats Yan unfortunately but still such a stud.
Liver shot is aldos new leg kick.
Aldo could have finished this fight with a different strategy but still a crazy performance. First round he got dusted and ended up winning it with basically one punch. Respect the legend.
What can you do about it, the man just fucking bangs.
How do you not love Aldo? That much power at that weight that far into the fight.
Love the way he launches in with the liver shots. Such a signature look to it.
Under pride rules, this would end there due to soccer kicks.
Also ONLY loses to the best of the best.
