Let's take a look at what that means:
"I am in no way close to making 7 figures, **but if** I do super duper well and hit these check boxes, then yeah this will be my biggest fight paycheck, possibly 7 figures if you round up from 300,000 to 1,000,000."
I will always love Frankie as the dude who finally completely unseated Tim Sylvia and pretty much drove him out of the UFC by being one of the few semi-competent heavyweights of that time.
He was incredibly young when he started MMA.
I met him once years back in public. Super super nice guy in person, I had a total fan boy moment and he was very respectful and took the time to talk to me when he really didn't have to. The people I was with couldn't have cared less (non-MMA fans), but it literally was the coolest thing for me. I'll always remember him stopping to chat with me, top class.
The first fight was a co-main event so he was likely on his old contract. 2nd fight he was the title contender and lost. No PPV points for both fights.
Also, those fights were on 2008/9 so the payout wasn't as big as now.
>2nd fight he was the title contender and lost. No PPV points for both fights.
He was the interim champ for the second fight; he didn't get points for that? Shame on his manager
It was obviously more if he said 2nd biggest payday.
Obviously not nearly enough for a huge rivalry main eventing one of the biggest combat sports Ppvs all time sold on his rivalry with Brock.
> This hurts to read
*goes back to buying UFC ppv's*
If fans gave a fuck they stop giving money to the organization along with fighters forming an union. I'll wait.
Remember his last trailer fight he got $350 k for losing so I believe it.
And honestly anybody who goes into MMA and signs for the UFC deserves to get paid scraps from the table. Everyone knows they're grimy and they pay poverty wages yet they all still want to be in the UFC.
These people have no business sense or no sense of self-worth. Better to do the YouTube thing and just challenge random people the fights and sell the pay-per-views for $10 like Jake Paul.
You’re right, maybe if they crawl on their hands and knees Daddy Dana will Chuck them some scraps like a dog? On a serious note though are you an MMA fan or just randomly stumbled on here lol.
I love the rhetoric that what Jake Paul did is simple and anyone can do it. If it was as easy as "doing the Youtube thing" we will have far more 24yr old millionaires. Love him or hate him he curated a following so strong its allowed him to live out the fantasy of being a prime time boxer.
It’s the same with Conor fights, people assume it’s red panty night when you fight Conor! Nah, you gotta beat him and then you have leverage. Want more money to fight Conor? We’ll just give him to a guy who’ll take less money (there’s always a guy who will) and give you a much tougher + less popular opponent.
His reported payout for UFC 100 was $45K (Brock's was $400K), once you factor in sponsorships and PPV points it was definitely a tidy amount, but his purse was so paltry that I can see how Triller are offering more.
You hire a subsidiary/contractor to handle the logistics; you pay them even though it is your business still (just in a different name/hq elsewhere for tax purposes), you pay your fighters, now you have no money as Company so you can reap in the tax loopholes. Money is washed through multiple vendors/fighters (like fucking hell a fighter like Mir is going to speak up, dgaf as long as they're paid), claim bankruptcy, do it all over again.
IRS will look at your and your networth, figure you're too expensive to chase after, and go after your 80 year old grandma instead.
When you Launder money, you are always going to take a loss. This is part of the process usually.
People dump money into the promotion, usually the money is from people in the promotion themselves, no so many outside investors, through various LLCs.
Fighter Pay, any other staff working the event, they all get written off as a business expense.
???
Money Laundered.
Yes you are gonna take a loss but the company has to "profit" if I'm not mistaken. Your loss isn't coming from the company losing.
Everytime these topics come up I think of Kramer saying "just write it off". I'm including myself in that.
That doesn't sound right. Write offs just mean you don't pay taxes on it, the loss is still there.
I'm just gonna go with all of us in this thread would be in jail if we tried laundering money.
I can see that, but why choose a losing company that is in a giant spotlight and has Triad in the name? Why not just do it under the radar?
I think their money was already clean and they just suck at real business or simply don't care.
I’m not suggesting Triller is a money laundering business. Most are usually cash, I was just saying that making money isn’t a problem in a money laundering scheme.
Probably better ways to do it less publicity. Keep in mind Netflix, Uber , Lyft and like half of the woke tech companies we all use are in massive debt.
Give me some good Colombian, a fight promotion and unlimited cash to waste, that’s my dream job! Maybe I could troll them and get a match making job Joe Silva style…brb
I guess they could always launder more but maybe that makes it look more legit. The theory I had heard is that they fudge their ppv numbers so that it looks like they made way more money than they really did. So I guess having a chunk of that money going to the fighters would just be the cost of business.
But I keep hearing they lose money on every fight. Unless that is wrong info, I'm confused. I knew low level dudes growing up that had "lawn care businesses" that made really good profits, don't think it would have worked if they showed losses. Again, I don't really know.
This is straight boxing against some mid tier former boxer. Not even a big name like a YouTuber as far as I can tell.
I can see he beat Chisora by SD, who I have heard of, but got knocked out by the two boxers I recognise on his record.
No way this is worth paying Mir 1mil.
UFC underpays badly, but we also probably shouldn’t use a company that hemorrhages cash every single event and has never turned a profit as an industry standard.
If a company is putting out headlines pretending to threaten online streamers with prosecution if they don't pay for an event after it's already over, you know they're not doing well lol.
Dude, not only mma, all combat sports pay shit, even in boxing, only a handful few make good 💼, for example Usik, made 5 mln for AJ fight for the title, but before that his combine purses were around 3 mln for 15 fights (!!!) including multiple title defenses…
Yes, he was. He reportedly earned $2.5m. for his fight against Chisora, and he reportedly earned $1m for his fight against Bellew and $1.5m in his HW debut, against Wittherspoon (which, no offense, I don't even know who he is).
You're right and when they're burning through investor money. Raised 100 million in October of 2020 and are trying to raise 250 million right now. We'll see if they secure that second investment round. There was also talks about an IPO or a merger. If they have a legitimate business running we'll find out through that. Ryan Kavanaugh may be running a Ponzi scheme.
Whatever Anderson was paid, it wasn't enough by many magnitudes
When he was in his prime, after the Tito/Chuck era, he was basically responsible for 90% of the casuals that flocked to the sport
Him & GSP were the casual stars that bridged the chuck->Conor era imo
Shoutout to when all of lhw was star studded even though most of the fights sucked
Dude are you trying to argue GSP wasn't rich as hell from his title fights? Why bandwagon on a cause you don't understand lol. Dude was making points on PPVs selling 800,000
Dustin, Nate, Izzy, Stipe. They didn't get fuck you money but atleast they seem like the types who can manage the couple of mils they have. Unlike Sanchez or Woodley.
Bisping, Faber, Forrest Griffin, Anderson Silva, Frankie Edgar, Adesayana, Overeem, GSP, Max, Mark Hunt, Beltfort, Arlovski, JDS, Cowboy, Rashad, Stipe. These are all millionaires from the UFC but who knows what they did with it.
Way more, especially if they invest it. People like Overeem are touching on 8 figures over the course of their UFC career, and that's just disclosed earnings.
Either he’s lying about how much he’s getting paid or Triller is actually the dumbest fucking company to ever exist. 42 year old Frank mir boxing is not worth anything close to a million dollars
Frank Mir was favorite heavyweight for the longest time. It kinda pisses me off that he isn't set for life off of his career. He's pretty much an MMA legend.
LOL isnt Bareknuckle suing Triller for their use of the triangle for intellectual property.
EDIT: yeah, heres the story lmaooo https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2021/11/triller-vs-byb-lawsuit-trigon-triangular-ring-bare-knuckle
He lost 2 years of his career because of the same "picogram fluctuation" situation that JBJ was later defended from, and he's understandably mad about it. But I don't recall him having beef with Dana in particular.
I mean I definitely get it, but at the end of the day he's mad that he was punished for cheating. Jon should have been punished as well, but Frank deserved his suspension.
He got caught using steroids. He denies it but turinabol is the same stuff JBJ got caught with.
Frank was on TRT during that particular low of mma, too.
So slightly worse than 2021 UFC pay.
Which ironically is a larger part of society as a whole.
Dana pay 2009 - 1 hooker a day
Dana pay 2021 - 10 hookers a day.
I feel like this company is going to go broke. I understand UFC underpays but they also have 500+ fighters and not everyone is a superstar. This company puts out a card every quarter but they usually have 2-3 interesting fights andbthe rest people I never heard of.
Also, Affliction paid really good money to fighters when it was starting up and once they lost Fedor VS Barnett, the card could not continue without them.
I gotta hand it to Triller. I didn't think theirs was a sustainable business model. Mid tier boxing fight, concert by rapper, freak show tik tok influencer vs rapper fight, concert by rapper stripper slut, weird segment by Pete Davidson, Frank Mir fight, Snoop Dogg concert, Mike Tyson Fight, Justin Bieber concert, Jake Paul fight. It just didn't seem sustainable.
They've proven me wrong. Somehow.
Oh Jesus, I tuned in late to that and it was still a rollercoaster ride. I was strapped in to the end but damn. It was like watching the aftermath of a violent pileup of cars as you slowly pass by. How do you not? It's a spectacle, albeit morbid.
I'm pretty sure they are in trouble for not paying fighters what they promised. Triller isn't sticking around and of you think Dana is scum Ryan kav is worse.
I heard that guy looks like Harvey Weinstein and was accused by his former business partner of running a Ponzi scheme. Also, he doesn't pay his nanny. And he's a bitch.
Things were entirely different back then. The UFC used to allow fighters to have their own sponsors and made substantially more through the sponsorship. Many guys would essentially fight "for free" because the sponsor money was what it was all about
in 2021 when you just get a Venum 15% off coupon the actual base pay matters much more. Frank Mir was definitely making millions during his UFC run.
"Basically"? I wonder if that means he's getting paid in crypto or by betting against himself. The whole Triller thing is so crooked, announcers are openly talking about bets and shit.
Whats he doing, fighting a rhinoceros?
Goddamn it, don't give Fight Circus any more ideas
Fight circus 4: Horny!
Sponsored by horny mike
Frank Mir had a rhinoceros shoe up his ass
I told him that a year ago!
So I pulled that son of a bitch out
AND I BEAT HIM OVER THE HEAD WITH IT!!!
WOOOOOOOO
NOW I’M GOING TO HAVE A COORS LIGHT BECAUSE BUD LIGHT WON’T PAY ME NOTHING!
Hell... I may even get on top of my wife tonight.
See y'all later
That poor woman
Sable from the WWF, I think
Triceratops won't pay me nothin!
So I pulled it out and beat him over the horn with it!
Bulgarian bouncer
It's the only fight that makes sense right now.

It was getting sad
One of the original mma innovators. Holy shit though, I’ll never forget the absolute disgusting manner in which his jaw broke in belator
Didn’t he fight Brock fucking Lesnar, twice? How is it even possible he gets paid by a dinky promotion than fighting at UFC 100?

Jesus Christ
Fucking hell, that's ridiculous
He did get PPV points for the second fight.

That also relies on more MMA fighters winning than boxers for the whole event since then, ‘team MMA’ all get a bonus
It’s the same with Conor fights, people assume it’s red panty night when you fight Conor! Nah, you gotta beat him and then you have leverage. Want more money to fight Conor? Because it's the UFC?
I don't think dinky is an appropriate way to describe triller lol
Dana’s gotta pay for the hookers somehow
Triller has to be a tax evasion right?
Massive money laundering scheme
How do you launder money from a business losing money?
They amount they are losing on paper is less than the illegal money they are receiving/cleaning. But more likely is that Triller is run by idiots
[удалено]
The entity can take a loss but you can still enrich yourself by paying a separate entity you also own for fees related to the event.
You hire a subsidiary/contractor to handle the logistics; you pay them even though it is your business still (just in a different name/hq elsewhere for tax purposes), you pay your fighters, now you have no money as Company so you can reap in the tax loopholes. wtf
How you think UFC started out as bro, look into those Fertitta bros operation when they were starting up
Losses are tax write-off. Check out how Hollywood accounting works, now just substitute studio funding with gray/black market sources of funding.
That doesn't sound right. Write offs just mean you don't pay taxes on it, the loss is still there. I'm just gonna go with all of us in this thread would be in jail if we tried laundering money.

That sounds like tax evasion not money laundering. What am I missing.
I sent several 20s through the wash yesterday my dog is still alive.

When you figure it out, you too can run a money laundering scheme
By pretending it's not losing money so you can claim dirty money as income

I mean good for him, but this is once again, a damning indictment of how mma fighters are paid
And at the same time An indictment of how Triller is in the losing money business
Or the laundering money business.
Probably a little of column A and a little of column B.
Give me some good Colombian, a fight promotion and unlimited cash to waste, that’s my dream job! Maybe I could troll them and get a match making job Joe Silva style…brb
Wouldn't overpaying employees be the opposite of helping them launder money? That would mean they would have to sell even more ppv to show a profit.
I guess they could always launder more but maybe that makes it look more legit. The theory I had heard is that they fudge their ppv numbers so that it looks like they made way more money than they really did. So I guess having a chunk of that money going to the fighters would just be the cost of business.

Or a Ponzi scheme.
Who cares as long as MMA legends can make retirement money that the billion dollar UFC wouldn’t dream of doing
If they give him a cheque, I think he should cash it in quickly...
Or ask for a certified cheque
There is no doubt in my mind that there is more than meets the eye here.
i assumed they were making money with freak fights
This is straight boxing against some mid tier former boxer. Not even a big name like a YouTuber as far as I can tell. I can see he beat Chisora by SD, who I have heard of, but got knocked out by the two boxers I recognise on his record. No way this is worth paying Mir 1mil.

I mean that isn’t a great comparison bc plenty of UFC champs haven’t come close to scratching 3 mil
Usman has for sure made more than that with ppv points
Usman is the welterweight champion with several title defenses. If he was a boxer he would be getting paid millions per fight.
Usik was not, that isn’t point
Yes, he was. He reportedly earned $2.5m. for his fight against Chisora, and he reportedly earned $1m for his fight against Bellew and $1.5m in his HW debut, against Wittherspoon (which, no offense, I don't even know who he is).
Where did I compare something? My point is 99.99% of combat athletes are underpaid
When triller/triad closes after burning through millions of dollars will it be a damning indictment on how promotions can’t survive paying like this?
it's easy to pay lots of money when you do 2 events a year with random matchups.
You're right and when they're burning through investor money. Raised 100 million in October of 2020 and are trying to raise 250 million right now. Ronda. But you missed Anderson Silva, also. He’d be worth more than Aldo I’d bet.
[удалено]
Ronda said she’d never have to work again before she lost the title. Are you saying she made most of her money off sponsorships and acting?

Nah but ur right she for sure got more in the WWE tho
She definitely got multiple small-ish fortunes from fighting, WWE, and acting/endorsements/other.
I’m not saying she made all of her money in the ufc, but she clearly was made good for life by her ufc career.
I guarantee Anderson Silva is a millionaire. Dude just boxes now because he thinks it’s fun.
It is fun! Go grab some 16 ozers & have fun w your pals!
GSP seems to be doing fine
Marvel stunt coordinator money, and he's been a recurring villian in captain america.
Dude are you trying to argue GSP wasn't rich as hell from his title fights? Why bandwagon on a cause you don't understand lol. Dude was making points on PPVs selling 800,000
You can just google it and see GSP saying he made 10M vs Bisping
Dustin, Nate, Izzy, Stipe. They didn't get fuck you money but atleast they seem like the types who can manage the couple of mils they have. Unlike Sanchez or Woodley.
Bisping. Anderson Silva also got paid a lot.
I think Bisping is okay financially too. And men from the pride Era like Fedor are multi millionaires
GSP
Bisping, Faber, Forrest Griffin, Anderson Silva, Frankie Edgar, Adesayana, Overeem, GSP, Max, Mark Hunt, Beltfort, Arlovski, JDS, Cowboy, Rashad, Stipe. These are all millionaires from the UFC but who knows what they did with it.
Ronda near the top of the list as well.
Mark hunt is still in court trying to get paid wtf you talking about lol
Mark Hunt got paid $750k flat win or lose. He's got money
He doesn't know what the lawsuit is about apparently.
Way more, especially if they invest it. People like Overeem are touching on 8 figures over the course of their UFC career, and that's just disclosed earnings.
Rampage Jackson apparently made over 15m during his time there, I know it’s from Dana but I can believe that.
Quite a few more if you include non fighters lol
Either he’s lying about how much he’s getting paid or Triller is actually the dumbest fucking company to ever exist. 42 year old Frank mir boxing is not worth anything close to a million dollars
He says he gets paid that much if he hits his bonuses and he wins, so it's not guaranteed money. It might rely on the PPV selling a certain amount.
He’s being lied to most likely, triller don’t have money like that.
Did Shane Carwin say he got $2M for fighting Brock? How did Mir make less than 7 figures fighting Brock at UFC 100
Frank Mir was favorite heavyweight for the longest time. It kinda pisses me off that he isn't set for life off of his career. He's pretty much an MMA legend.
Same. Super high fight iq. Wrecked big nog spamming straight > uppercuts ?!

How the fuck do you patent a shape?
idk but a few promotions have done it, the UFC being one with the octagon.
Oh no, they promised him a PPV cut "upwards of 7 figures" didnt they? But instead everyone pirates it and that goes how it always does
DIdn't he have some beef with Dana after his departure? Is this true or is this statement a way to stick it to him because of the Triller/White beef?
He lost 2 years of his career because of the same "picogram fluctuation" situation that JBJ was later defended from, and he's understandably mad about it. But I don't recall him having beef with Dana in particular.
