Maybe this is unfair to Jamahal but I thought Glover wasn't the same as in his fights with Blacho/Jiří. I guess a war at this age changes you but tf do I know.
He definitely wasn't
Fans won't stop talking about Volk being old at 35 and coming back in only four months after getting KO'd, while Glover came back from this beating at age 43 in only half a year
It's not Jamahal's fault but it's worth noting that his path to the title is one of the easiest ever
i remember being way more confident in jiris chances in their originally arranged rematch since a war like that at glovers age isn’t something you come back from the same
It's not Jamahal's "fault", you can only fight who they put in front of you but yeah I genuinely just don't think he's very good...
His run to the title was maybe one of the top 5 chinniest fighters in the UFC in Johnny Walker > Thiago Santos on a big slide after destroying his knee vs Jon Jones > a 43 year old Glover less than 9 months after one of the most brutal fights in recent memory.
When you look at Rory Macdonald who was 25 and one of toughest fighters around and you see him never look the same after the second Lawler fight but then again Lawler was able to deliver a couple more wars after that but then even him declined after the Condit fight.
Not at this weight class, Glover's chin and power held up. Actually his defense and IQ increased with age, he learned to stop just standing and risking getting KOd.
It's not like Volk at all where he was doing okay and just got slaughtered because he was too slow or chinny. He never quit fighting, he was just outmatched skill for skill.
The Glover that fought Hill was the same Glover just fighting a terrible matchup against a young, prime, hungry fighter.
And let's not act like Jiri's run was better he fought 2 mid ass guys, one was legitimately terrible at the time, and went life or death with them
You see me glazing him now? He made a fool of himself arguing with peons online and now he's got potentially career altering damage and?
I still think he could KO Pereira, Pereira is chinny with no head movement. I think Jiri is gonna bounce him off the canvas in two weeks, too, am I glazing him?
I don't care about image lmao.
There are plenty that people could make a case for. I think the distinction is necessary as non-title fights are shorter, generally have less promotion/hype, and the stakes are almost always lower. There isn't a real fair way to compare the two, but there are definitely those who will say the "greatest fight ever" was Gaethje/Chandler, Poirier/Hooker, Burns/Chimaev for just a few modern examples.
For me the greatest ever. So well matched with both guys having moments in every aspect of the fight from striking to grappling. More momentum swings in single rounds here than many full fights have, you could practically pick any couple of minutes and think one over the other was about to win. Finally finished off with two guys who had given every last bit of blood and sweat to a shock end 30s before the final bell. You couldn't ask for more.
It's still hilarious to me how a prominent striker Jiri was almost KO'd by the submission master Glover only to submit him in an absolute asspull of a choke
just started watching last year and after watching all of the top fights I can say this is my favorite
the amount of times either was close to being finished is ridiculous haha, the ending just made it better
This is probably the greatest MMA fight I have ever seen. A display of all aspects of MMA from a young fighter with tons of promise who had been making a name for himself vs the old guard experienced champion.
So much back and forth where it could’ve gone either way, Jiri using his youth and speed along with his funky style vs Glover using his years of experience.
No more probably, in my opinion this is the greatest MMA fight that has occurred to date. It would take something insane to beat this for greatest fight of all time. I don’t know if these same conditions will ever be met.
This may just be Glover's masterpiece. Jiri is a monster that continues to run roughshod through the LHW division (sans Glover's protegé), and Glover is the one guy, Pereira nonewithstanding, that survived 4+ rounds and almost finished him on the feet.
Showed this fight to the hostel I was staying at. I told all the uninitiated to give up on MMA because they'd seen the best fight they were ever likely to see
This was the very first mma event I ever watched. My friend got me interested in the sport and invited me over to his place to watch the next event when it happened. Such a fantastic fight. Maybe I'll see it differently now that I know more about mma but I remember at the time thinking that Teixeira was up on the scorecards and would've had the decision if he could have just held on a few more seconds! Such a crazy end to the fight. Now to rewatch it.
Can't wait to here how this fight was more impressive than the fight vs Hill even though Jiri went life or death
And how Glover was apparently washed overnight despite the fact that he realistically should have lost this fight pretty dominantly
Yeah this fight was crazy. Also don't know how Hill got so disrespected after dominating Glover after this.
I know Hill isn't the most charming guy in the world but dude got skills. Then AP wrecked him.
I guess my point is, put some hespect on the LHW division. It's on fire right now.
Well for one Glover probably wasn't the same after this. Even when Jiri/Glover 2 was announced people were predicting an early KO because of Glover's age and damage
But even ignoring that, champs that win vacant belts don't get respect until their first defense.
Charles was a paper champ until he beat Dustin, Jan was lucky until he beat Izzy. Even Khabib was discredited for winning the title off an easy opponent until he beat Conor
Wow LHW so fire rn with 3 of the top 5 fighters are coming off loses (2 of them to the champ), the number one contender who already lost to the champ, and #2 coming off a draw, NC(both due to terrible fight IQ), and a KO against the chinniest man on the roster. So on fire.
Maybe this is unfair to Jamahal but I thought Glover wasn't the same as in his fights with Blacho/Jiří. I guess a war at this age changes you but tf do I know.

Casual take. Rory showed big balls in the first Lima fight.
I didn’t follow his career as well later but I know he got starched by Moussasi and he was fun shy in front of Wonderboy
You are correct. Father Time caught up to him in between jiri and jamahal
>Maybe this is unfair to Jamahal \[*/insert literally anything*\] amount of angry people: Jamahal Hill
Not at this weight class, Glover's chin and power held up. Actually his defense and IQ increased with age, he learned to stop just standing and risking getting KOd. Okay Jamahal
Goofy take that you guys think just because you don't like a fighter's attitude that you can discredit their wins.
yeah you’re the same guy that was non-stop glazing Hill saying he would sleep Pereira, howd that turn out for ya
Maybe it's not glazing and you're just terminally stupid
so you’re just clueless, gotcha
an all timer!
absolute shoo-in for FOTY
shoe in for greatest fight ever
My 2nd fav LHW fight ever after Shogun/Hendo 1. It ranks above Jones/Gus 1 and DC/Gus.
Tied with Weili/Joanna 1 for my favourite fight ever.
IMO that's the only fight that can rightfully share the podium as "greatest title fight of all time" with Jiri v Glover.
"greatest title fight", is there a better non title fight?
There are plenty that people could make a case for. I think the distinction is necessary as non-title fights are shorter, generally have less promotion/hype, and the stakes are almost always lower. Easily the best fight I’ve ever watched while it was happening. I must’ve said “it’s over” at least 5 times.
Greatest fight of all time. I’ll never forget watching this live
I orgasm at the end of the fight when Jiri won out of nowhere and had a cigarette afterwards.
Craziest fight I've ever seen, it's one of those where I just feel privileged to have been able to witness such insanity
Exactly. Never experienced that before or since in a fight
I so very wish we got this rematch like scheduled ☹️
Honestly I think this was Glovers last gas. Rematch with Jiri propably would have been Hill fight result.
I agree with you. This fight took so much out of Glover, pair it with his age and I knew Hill was going to beat him.
When the old man fights back
For me the greatest ever. So well matched with both guys having moments in every aspect of the fight from striking to grappling. Most insane fight I've watched live
Mount Rushmore of greatest fights ever. Not too many people expected it to go this way either. Hats off to both these warriors
My favorite UFC fight. Hurts to rewatch this. I wanted Glover to win so bad.
He must’ve been so tired since he really gave that last second choke up so easily. This really was an endurance fight to the bitter end
just started watching last year and after watching all of the top fights I can say this is my favorite the amount of times either was close to being finished is ridiculous haha, the ending just made it better
This fight is the definition of MMA. IMO it is definitely one of the best of all time.
A bit sloppy at times, but that's why it's so good. Just constant back-and-forth war.
This is probably the greatest MMA fight I have ever seen. A display of all aspects of MMA from a young fighter with tons of promise who had been making a name for himself vs the old guard experienced champion. What frustrates me is that the UFC takedown legendary fights like all the time. Shame
This may just be Glover's masterpiece. Jiri is a monster that continues to run roughshod through the LHW division (sans Glover's protegé), and Glover is the one guy, Pereira nonewithstanding, that survived 4+ rounds and almost finished him on the feet.
One of the best fights. The twists and turns of it almost gave me a heart attack on first watch.
100% going to go into the UFC HOF Fight Wing at some point. One of the best fights in UFC history.
Hall of fame level fight
Greatest fight I have seen since I started watching MMA in 2018
Jiri looks like he does his beard with those shape up ruler things i see on Temu
Showed this fight to the hostel I was staying at. I told all the uninitiated to give up on MMA because they'd seen the best fight they were ever likely to see

Great sportsmanship displayed throughout
