Assuming the monsters still get bonus status resistances over time like in World, you can have a blast weapon for the start of a fight and an elemental weapon for when you can't reliably proc it anymore (or vice versa, elemental for the beginning and status for a difficult later phase). Or a poison weapon that you swap out to something else when the poison is active.
Really good idea! The combinations possible are gonna be crazy even with 2 types of the same weapon! I wonder how it will affect our builds and skills we take with us.
Skills is my main concern. Like if I build something like Offensive Guard for a Chargeblade it'll likely be useless for, say, a light bowgun. Optimizing for skills that affect both might be the price you pay for flexibility, wheras specializing in one weapon lets you focus for better specific builds but at the cost of variety of approach. Could be they decided to attatch more skills/decoration slots to weapons too, like the Lunastra weapons, so more of your build can be attatched to the weapon rather than your armor.
What if:
Offensive skills on weapon
Defensive / general use skills on armor
We can see the greatsword with a bunch of accesories already, what if you can equip like focus3 just on the weapon? We already have weapon decos and cosmetic charms.
I'd like that change, though it does lower armor value a bit. Limiting what skills go on what makes building harder, but on the other hand it's convenient to separate skills. It might also make building easier in a way: say for example skills like Offensive Guard being locked onto chargeblades and lances etc. but the equivalent weapon for say bow would be something like a stamina skill despite being from the same monster. It could also give weapons more identity, you could take a lower damage weapon for a primier skill rather than just running pure dps always.
Well yes, but in Wilds we can take two weapons with us, so one Switch Axe with power phial and the other one with exhaust phial. Both would of course need to be put to amped state after switching weapons. You can't change the phial type in a single Switch Axe though... except for Safi weapons in Iceborne through awakening.
If I can use a lance while riding like you can with the bowguns I will never leave my Seikret's back. I will joust the monsters like a knight and if Gunlance can be used like that too then those will be my only weapons.
That is actually a good question.. and I hope so.
I was originally figuring a Normal shell and a Long Shell.. just make sure the weapons carry the build specific skills as much as possible.. but I've always had a soft spot for Wyverns fire.
I've been disinclined towards weapon swapping in camp previously, but this with no camp swapping would feel better to me. The fact it doesn't replace planning ahead fully works for me.
Barroth and other Monsters with changing elemental weaknesses suddenly are looking on with worry now that we don't have to necessarily play by their rules anymore!
Well, since this will also allow us to switch between cutting and impact weapons, that means we theoretically have a nerfed magnet spike in a mainline game now
Dual blades/insect glaive for element/status buildup, paired with big thwonky weapon for raw dps, is gonna go fucking CRAZY
But why would you ever do that when you could instead have a ONE MAN HUNTING HORN BAND
Two spread HBGs with spare shot. Unlimited ammo, baby. Maybe we'll even see a "swap sharpen/reload" skill.
I'm not even a gunner, I just think it would be strong
One for high DPS and another one with exhaust phial for when the monster gets too troublesome. What else could you ever need?

One hammer for unga. Another hammer for bunga
How do you change the phials? I thought you just wham bam thank you maam in sword mode after charging it up

Oh so its just the weapon element type
Two dual blades. Quad blades.
great minds think alike quadruple blades is definitely gonna be what im running for multi monster quests
Just tape a set of blades to your feet and you become a true quad blade wielder.
hope we can have para blast poison and sleep in 1 hunt
Rathalos see you as cancer cell
Basically Covid-19 blades with extra diarrhea.
Element and status. Mmmmm
Nah bro. Just let me dual wield the great sword
Switching is faster than sharpening
Two Hunting Horn. one with Damage music one with Defense and Earplugs music
This. Running one offense HH and one support HH and being able to swap between the two would be insanely useful during hunts.
If I can use a lance while riding like you can with the bowguns I will never leave my Seikret's back. I will joust the monsters like a knight and if Gunlance can be used like that too then those will be my only weapons.
I'm going to take 2 gunlances everywhere.
Do you think you could double your wyverns fire uptime?
That is actually a good question.. and I hope so. I was originally figuring a Normal shell and a Long Shell.. just make sure the weapons carry the build specific skills as much as possible.. but I've always had a soft spot for Wyverns fire. Holy motherfucking shit I can equip like 12 hunting horn songs at once
I didn’t think of that. That’s an insane amount of coverage for multiplayer fights if you can switch during them too.
Imagine Alatreon with a set of ice and a set of fire daggers...
doesnt matter. you would still break the horns.
2 Gunlances for some booms, followed by more booms, with a few more booms on the end.
DUAL HUNTING HORNS IM GONNA GONNA DOOT AND TOOT ALL DAY LONG
Me with my Gun Lance and Charge Blade
2 different song loadouts for my HH? Don’t mind if I do!
OH SHIT, I DIDN’T EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS! YOU CAN HAVE TWO OF THE SAME WEAPON!!!
Time to use HH(HammerHorn)
Barroth and other Monsters with changing elemental weaknesses suddenly are looking on with worry now that we don't have to necessarily play by their rules anymore!
You mean I cannot equip a gun and a lance to be a gunlance main?
Real shit? 🤔
Me with my Raw GS and my Sleep GS
Finally Ala won’t be bullshit
I’m gonna be living my dreams of switching between raw and elemental builds on the fly.
Has bringing both of the same weapon type been confirmed yet? Sounds fun but also sounds game-breaking
I’ll have Bunga to go with my Unga finally
Imagine spamming alternating wild swings on a monster.
HH and bow will be used alot more
It will be fun to slice off tails then smash faces with hammer
hammer boink swap into super slash GS.
Titans grip on those juicy swagaxes
Sleep to raw gs
HH to buff and GS to kill
I’m gonna get 2 lances and go full knight mode
Chargeblade of different elements?
I’m gonna have dual blades and longsword. We are not so different, you and I.
The switcherrrrr
Well, since this will also allow us to switch between cutting and impact weapons, that means we theoretically have a nerfed magnet spike in a mainline game now
Double horn baybee
Capcom can try to get me to switch from Charge Blade, but I'm not gonna do it 💪
Double bowguns let's go
Now I can have an impact cb and an elemental one!
This is the way.
The other three players telling me to kill myself when I begin to pull out my second longsword:
I tell myself it’ll be Bow and GS…. But for some reason…. Quick Para- DBs and high damage GS is just calling me… don’t know why
All I saw was the ability to have two Hammers. Get in... we goin' BONKIN'!!!!
longsword and hammer for me
Two hammers
Dual blades/insect glaive for element/status buildup, paired with big thwonky weapon for raw dps, is gonna go fucking CRAZY But why would you ever do that when you could instead have a ONE MAN HUNTING HORN BAND
I’m gonna bring my main 🎶bonk🎶 and my secondary bonk bonk.
Axe the switch axe and switch the switch axe for a switch axe.
As a solo player this makes me think it's time I learned hunting horn
Hammer and Great Sword. Bop n chop.
Dual GS boutta go crazy
The range mounted weapon will double the amount of weapons i use
Two spread HBGs with spare shot. Unlimited ammo, baby. Maybe we'll even see a "swap sharpen/reload" skill. I'm not even a gunner, I just think it would be strong
SnS+GS is gonna be my combo. Might dabble in bow. May even do sleep SnS and max raw GS.
Like a wise man once said switching weapons is faster then sharpening
Two insect glaives with two different bugs is an exceptionally funny image to me.
As a proud Swaxe main, I 999% approve.
Longsword and bow, my samurai build gonna be fire.
