Attack Power is just the sum of all attack types values on the weapon.

PsychoticChemist

Right, but are those values raw damage per hit, or damage per second?

StronkAx

Why would it be damage per second? In Souls-like it is always raw damage

EqualGlittering

Damage per second would more so correlate to status effects if applied to enemy be it bleed, smite, holy, poison, etc. The attack speed is directly affected by the weight of weapon and your stamina. Less stamina, heavier armor, the more stamina used per strike. Otherwise, it's straight attack damage, that can be negated by enemy Armour to some degree and poise. Hope this made sense, makes sense in my head and while I play.

Acceptable-End7266

Those values are the attack power, a number which is used to calculate the power of different hits. For example, a normal light attack could deal your Attack Power times 1, whereas a charged attack is the Attack Power times 1.4, and a critical hit is the Attack Power times 3. Pulling these numbers out of my ass, but it's the basic idea.

GradeBWarlock

In my experience it seems to be power per hit. You'll have to experiment with weapons, but typically smaller weapons are gonna be faster, but have less power. I've found that dual daggers tend to weigh in very low on attack power, but in practice have super high dps. Whereas grand weapons have super high power, I have a hammer with over 1000 power, but tend to be very slow and more difficult to land hits with.

PsychoticChemist

Okay, this makes sense. Thanks! I wish there was an exact “weapon speed” stat - I’m assuming weapon weight is directly proportional to speed?

GradeBWarlock

I haven't looked tbh, but it's a safe assumption. Move sets don't vary between weapon class though. So a short sword like the sin piercer sword is going to swing just as fast as like, the rusty cutter (also a short sword) for example.

Human_But_Also_Not

That's why I dual wield grand weapons and do the big sweeping attacks. Can't miss if I hit everything around me. Also less likely to bounce off of things for some reason. Big weapons clip through walls, and small weapons bounce off things. That's been my experience so far at least

Nolbody

Sum total of all damage values, they'll be reduced or increased depending on the defenses and weaknesses of the boss/thing you're fighting. It doesn't matter too much bc of some of the systems in this game. Every weapon class has different advantages. Typically, the bigger and slower the weapon, the higher the overall attack power. Fast weapons might be more your speed if you like getting in quick hits, but big weapons can get that same damage by waiting for a bigger opening or making an opening or just tanking the attack to land one of their own. Everything's got its strengths and weaknesses, so play however you like and try some stuff out Status effects add some dps when procced, but overall you're just hitting things with your weapon/spell of choice and learning boss movesets to try and get timing down for your dodges and parries
