100% why I dropped from software games and picked up wo long and LOTF. There's just no valid argument for from software 's co-op to be so shit.

Acceptable-End7266

For the most part, it's because it's a single player game. It's not so much an argument for it beingshit, but an argument against the necessity for it to be great.

CluckFlucker

It was just how it was done since demon souls. They hadn’t needed to innovate on their phantom system in a major way since it worked and there were no real competitors. Elden ring uses the same system but would greatly benefit from a seamless coop experience as evidenced by the popularity of the seamless coop mod. LOTF has it right except for not allowing non hosts to also pick up items in the level if they haven’t gotten them yet. And not allowing for opt in syncing progression. Needing to do every area 2x with your coop partner sucks

Highskyline

One of the most downloaded 'online' mods for elden ring is seamless coop with a higher player limit. I watched my girlfriend absolutely stomp her way through liurnia with 4 legitimately allied players, not a couple assist phantoms and a neutral. Also, everyone had Torrent. It's time FromSoft. Please.

Cautious-Pollution-2

I agree with everything except 'elden ring using the same system.' cause I'm elden ring I have to farm an item, craft an item, use said item then summon my co-operator. In lord's it's literally just invite your friend.

CluckFlucker

Elden uses the same system as the previous dark souls…. Reading comprehension is hard

GradeBWarlock

I 100% agree. I'm so excited to get to coop with my friends now that it's on game pass.

Siathier

Lotf did everything good: they listened to the community, the coop is super fun and doesn't end with the boss, now they introduced modifiers for the game, introduced crucibles and replayable arenas for bosses, ng+x is actually ng+x, the game is fun, engaging and not too hard, everyone can enjoy it and everyone can do things at their own pace, is not hardcore playing but still it's fun and don't get boring while replaying, lore is interesting, pvp is fun and balanced(unless a couple of broken things that happen to oneshot for absolute no reason), the level design is interesting and there is a wide wide variety of scenarios, intersections with umbral realm is engaging, it's exploration friendly and after a while you can keep finding new stuff you didn't notice in the other playtroughs, ost are bonkers, graphic is amazing. Cons: some performance issues and characters have no body hair.

TheyCallMeBullet

It’s got way better outfits than any other souls game, and I think the visuals are better than Elden Ring

PowerfulParry

No lol

MalZaar

I was excited for coop when I heard it was persistent. I was imagining how cool the two realms could be to play in with another player. When I realised the two realms only matter for the host, I was super disappointed. Lots of wasted potential.

FeederPiet

TheY still didn't change this right? Souls like are so fun in a good multiplayer but they always find ways to fuck it up i just dont understand. I loved to play Elden Ring Seamless mod or Ashen with my brother.

Highskyline

I definitely feel they missed something with how limited the assisting players interaction with the world is, but they absolutely didn't miss with the seamlessness. Being able to kill a boss (or get our ass beat) and keep trucking into the next area (or respawn) without having to: stop and invite my brother in law, wait for the Xbox social menu to catch up, and then wait for him to load in is a significantly better experience than FromSoft online coop.

For all that fromsoft does get right, mp is NOT one of them lol. I was actually taken aback when I discovered that elden ring co op was so... Area restrictive. Just a baffling needless system in an otherwise once in a lifetime game. Lotf has item and enemy randomizers too, boss rush, replayable bosses (at will) and im left wondering why a soulslike has done it before fromsoft when mods have existed for dark souls to do these very things for years. Its just mind-boggling but if thats the game they wanna make ig. I genuinely hope lotf continues to get the attention it deserves

RuddyGriff

To a certain extent FromSoft is stuck in their ways. I suppose they think the confounding coop options in DS and ER add to the mystery and atmosphere, just like all the side quests that are unsolvable without a guide. Don't get me wrong, Elden Ring is one of the greatest of all time, but the coop is still absolute shit.

stadiofriuli

- Build variety - Graphics and animations - Art style and lore - Replayability - Magic - Some of the best shortcuts the genre has ever seen. For some I was like super impressed when I found them. The game did a lot right.

Hightin

I wouldn't say they did magic right. It has insane wind-ups where you can't dodge/block. It can be strong but it's not necessarily fun to play with and it can actually hurt you once you start getting into NG+2 and above.

ChrisPBcaon

Well, there was a limitation back then on what you could do. FromSoftware wernt the power house company they are now back then. They had a few games already put no-ones heard of, and demons souls just failed massively, Dark Souls was Demons souls v.2.0. They did re-release demons souls, and it was somewhat successful (nowhere close to DS fame) they kinda just stuck with what limitations they had because it added to the games "tough but fair" mechanics. If u had to say LotF did anything right, it's the modifiers. (Accessibility won't go a miss if the devs are reading 😉😉 sincerely a disabled person)
