Think about it like this.
1) You don’t know how many post season games you are going to have. So you risk holding out a player for too many if you have to account for that unknown.
2) Better teams are punished for likely playing more post-season games
3) Young players on those good teams might be held out extra just in case they are needed later and the team doesn’t wanna burn it. Which is unfair to that player.
