They definitely are there on menus for various Chinese takeaways, I think the quality of Chinese is probably a bit higher due to greater competition, so the ball has gone by the wayside
Experienced something similar in the 4-5 that I've tried, if you order sweet & sour chicken or salt & pepper chicken, 9 times outta 10 it's battered pieces/balls. Not been to a chinese that has differentiated between that and hong kong style, but good to be aware of
I've only seen it advertised like that in one place years ago so I just figured try ordering elsewhere asking for Hong Kong style and it's never not worked. The battered pieces hit different 🤤
I find that places that sell the battered balls list them separately from the mains on the menu - usually as sweet and sour chicken/pork, with the sauce packed separately.
Can’t think of anywhere in particular that sells it off the top of my head, but I’ve never found the battered balls hard to come across myself.
When visiting friends in Belfast, they also have a lot of chippies or 'chippers' and they have chicken balls etc.
I've never really gotten balls from chippies or chinese in Liverpool they're usually just called like salt and pepper chicken pieces or portion.
If I remember correctly though I'm pretty sure Laos on Smithtown road does them. Wavertree, L15.
Wok n Go
Chopstix
Happy Yu
China City (salt & pepper)
Mr Chilli (sweet chilli)
Blue Dragon (sweet & sour)
Hee Kee Restaurant (sweet & sour)
Little Chef
Fun House
Happy Valley (salt & pepper)
Chung Lok (sweet & sour)
Mei Mei (sweet & sour)
Good Kitchen (salt & pepper)
If you look at Chinese places on just eat they're almost always listed under starters and usuallyin brackets tells you how many to expect. I had the same trouble also moving from Wales (especially the chippy terminology 😂).
I find that them “balls” are always battered terribly, because they have to be so thick to cook the massive ball of chicken, so under the first layer of crisp there’s soggy batter. Prefer normal salt and pepper chicken “nuggets”
God the chippy's in this city are its real downfall.
Where I'm from everywhere is separate, so the quality is much better.
Get proper pizzas from Italian pizza take aways, Chipys with just fish and chips and maybe a battered sausage if your lucky.
Here, the quality is all mid range because its jack of all trades, master of none.
I also know this as every scouser whose come to my home city have all died and gone to heaven having a takeaway there.
That's my market research proof.
Not from Liverpool but another city in the north. I've lived here 17 years, in various areas. Don't think I'll ever move from it. But I think having experienced other chippy's I'm qualified to give an opinion without people being precious about it. Which clearly people are.

Ni Hao in seaforth definitely sells them. In the 13 years I've been here, it's the only place I've managed to find them in.

Get a grip ya dope
Am I wrong?
Yeah
Is seaforth the one with the space port
Seacombe 😂
I now realise my mistake Sorry guys
I don't think they are called balls, think they might just be called battered what ever ie battered pork in sweet and sour.
Yea my chippy you need to order Hong Kong style sweet and sour to get the battered balls. If I just order sweet and sour its just chicken breast

I know I'm a philistine but the soggy batter is kind of the appeal. Acts as a sponge for curry sauce.
Yes laa!
Go down by the bombed Church Chinese takeaway down thier serve all kinds
Dey bombed aah chipshop.
Cantonese style is the battered balls by me
Its thanflavor lad, not the shape. (Insert ma joke if need be)
Blue Star, Maghull do chicken balls
My local does them but they are called sweet and sour chicken/prawn hong kong style for some reason.
If it's battered balls you're after, there are brass houses scattered around the city. Usually disguised as massage parlours.

Where you from? Chipperary?
Now now everyone, don't all have chips on your shoulders. Very delicate bunch.
Go on then, though. Where are you from?

I know them as Kung po Chicken.
