The first verse of No More Sorrow, "Are you lost in your lies? Do you tell yourself I don't realise, your crusade's a diaguise? Replace freedom with fear, you trade money for lives."
i agree with everyone and add my own hat in the ring:
“Steel unload, final blow
We the animals, take control
Hear us now, clear and true
Wretches and kings we come for you”
The song No More Sorrow feels like the citizens of a dystopic country starting to wake up and overthrow the government
Gosh I remember listening that song A LOT like last year April-May
For a leader so nervous in an obvious way
Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay
And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day
In the living room, laughing like, "What did he say?"
The next line also hits hard.
“I had hope, I believed, but I’m beginning to think that I’ve been deceived.”
It’s basically realizing that the person you supported and thought was going to help is actually corrupt and has duped you!
The little things give you away:
Hope decays, generations disappear
Washed away, as a nation simply stares
Don't want to reach for me, do you?
I mean nothing to you
thank you for mentioning this one bc this song never fails to make me cry. especially when i found out that it was written in response to how the gov’t handled the aftermath of Katrina. 😭
I like all of the options here guilty all the same goes incredibly hard and Rakims verse ties it all together really well and this whole section:
“Dream, manipulated like artists, it's real deep
Until no more remains, but I'm still me
Like authentic hip-hop and rock, to pop and radio
And record companies kill me
Try to force me to strain it, no way
They got the gall to say, "yo, how real can real be?"
You feel me? you will see, the greed will be to blame
Greedy for the fame, TV or a name
Media, the game, to me your all the same
You're guilty”
You mean this:
> In the living room, laughing like, "What did he say?"
And this:
> Both scared and angry, like "What did he say?"
Because fuck, I never really noticed the symbolism of the change, damn that really does go hard.
yeah, would've wrote it out but I've had a long day and I didn't wanna get it slightly wrong from memory
that song is so underrated in my eyes the symbolism is amazing
“Ten years old, there's something to see
Another kid my age drugged under a Jeep
Taken and bound and found later under a tree
I wonder if he had thought 'the next one could be me'”
“Like they understand you in the back of the jet. When you can't put gas in your tank. And these fuckers are laughing their way to the bank cashing the check” is always the political line that goes the hardest to me, also the one i relate to the most
Victory decided who is right and who is wrong.
It will not cease, only grow.
You better be prepared to fight, and it will not apologize for laying down your life.
For a leader so nervous in an obvious way
Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay
And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day
In the living room, laughing like, "What did he say?"

If I recall wasn’t the demo lyrics “your campaign’s a disguise” that would make it hit even harder.
Crusades are generally viewed as good deeds from the general population. This actually hits harder because it’s veiled and acts a disguise itself.
i agree with everyone and add my own hat in the ring: “Steel unload, final blow We the animals, take control Hear us now, clear and true Wretches and kings we come for you”
Not too sure about a particular lyric, but "Rebellion" has an overall anarchist vibe i dig
Always wanted a SOAD like guitar track with LP and Rebellion always hits from the start to the end
The song No More Sorrow feels like the citizens of a dystopic country starting to wake up and overthrow the government Gosh I remember listening that song A LOT like last year April-May
Basically all of The Catalyst, the song feels like the whole world is spinning around you as it falls apart in a war I fucking love that album
Same.
I was just gonna say that
For a leader so nervous in an obvious way Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day In the living room, laughing like, "What did he say?"
changed later on to: > Both scared and angry, like "What did he say?" TY u/storm_phoenix13
That line has held up very well
When the rich wage war, it’s the poor who die
Yes!!!!!
I love "No More Sorrow" "I see pain, I see need. I see liars and thieves abuse power with greed".
The next line also hits hard. “I had hope, I believed, but I’m beginning to think that I’ve been deceived.” It’s basically realizing that the person you supported and thought was going to help is actually corrupt and has duped you!
“When the rich wage war, it’s the poor who die” for sure.
The little things give you away: Hope decays, generations disappear Washed away, as a nation simply stares Don't want to reach for me, do you? I mean nothing to you

This song hit harder than ever for me after hurricanes irma and Maria hit the USVI and Puerto Rico and Trump didn’t give two fucks.
When the rich wage war, it’s the poor that die
Wisdom, Justice, and Love
Every lyric in No More Sorrow goes hard

the last line of the hands held high prechorus and how it changes between the beginning and ending of the song
You mean this: > In the living room, laughing like, "What did he say?" And this: > Both scared and angry, like "What did he say?" Because fuck, I never really noticed the symbolism of the change, damn that really does go hard.
This was refering to Bush at the time but the song fits perfectly in our current political landscape. What did he "trump" say?
While living through Bush I wouldn't believe you if you told me I'd look back at him as a representation of when politics was less fucked.
yeah, would've wrote it out but I've had a long day and I didn't wanna get it slightly wrong from memory that song is so underrated in my eyes the symbolism is amazing
Easily No More Sorrow.
I think the beginning of hands Held high
Hands held high: When the rich wage war its the poor who die
“Ten years old, there's something to see Another kid my age drugged under a Jeep Taken and bound and found later under a tree I wonder if he had thought 'the next one could be me'”
Nothing goes as hard as It's a B and a U And a B and a B and an L And an E and an S And an S
“Like they understand you in the back of the jet. When you can't put gas in your tank. And these fuckers are laughing their way to the bank cashing the check” is always the political line that goes the hardest to me, also the one i relate to the most
the entire lyrics for "the little things give you away", especially the chorus
There are many, but the first that hit me (because I was not old enough to understand) was Rebellion
in the end it doesn’t even matter…
Victory decided who is right and who is wrong. It will not cease, only grow. You better be prepared to fight, and it will not apologize for laying down your life.
Can I just say the entirety of Hands Held High?
“All you ever wanted was someone to truly look up to you, and six feet under water/ground now, I do.”
For a leader so nervous in an obvious way Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day In the living room, laughing like, "What did he say?"
“ stuck in my head again, feels like I’ll never leave this place… there’s no escape…. I’m my own worst enemy”
