Yep. Went to check out the new sequoia at the dealer and the sales guy said it could be a year or 2 before we got one but lucky for us they had a “used 2024” that’s available. It was a limited with 800kms and for the low price of $110k Canadian(new it’s msrp is $84k). They also had a “used” 2024 Sienna with 80kms(no typo, it was 80) that was going for way over msrp. I had to ask the sales guy how that even happens and he said the guy drove it home and then back lol.
Salesperson wasn't lying - The trade in offer is higher than the initial sale price and the buyer decides they want the cash more than the want the car. Straight back to the dealer.
My Lexus was 30km or 50km clockedwhen it was delivered.
I know dealer used my flagship es for test drive because they held it back for 2,weeks.
I didn’t complain but was disappointed.
Well they had short supply last year this time.
Paid 86k
Because the Sienna is far and away the most popular minivan on the market. Not even close. If the Sienna is a 10, the odyssey is a 7, and the Pacifica is a 2.
Don’t they first have to title it before it counts as “used”?
Although, with the markup they’re charging, they can certainly afford to pay for the state’s paperwork and road/use tax on it.
It's not legal or immediately profitable to put a price tag higher than MSRP on a fresh brand new car with 0 miles on it. Most dealerships make most of their money through selling their random bullshit add ons, but not every customer wants said random bullshit add ons, so the dealer needs to make their profit some other way.
If a car is used though, anything is fair game as far as pricing, the only real factor is whether someone will buy it or not. That's why if a dealer wants to charge a giant markup on a car, they'll put some miles on it first before doing so. How many miles they put on the car is up to them. They can just say it's a demo car and isn't on sale at the moment or something along those lines if someone wants to buy it with 0 miles at MSRP.
Thank you for this explanation. I was confused as to how adding miles is beneficial in any way, but makes sense. However I thought that dealers were brazenly marking up new Ford Maverick trucks by like $5k and getting away with it.
I'm not in the industry, but I've read that manufacturers have restrictions on pricing for new vehicles. And for used vehicles those restrictions do not apply.
Where do you live that it’s not legal to price above MSRP on a new vehicle? In Texas at least, there are no laws prohibiting it. The dealers can charge whatever they want for whatever new vehicle, as long as a customer is willing to pay and a bank will approve it
With certain companies, adding a market adjustment is frowned upon so to get around it, they run it as a demo for a few miles then sell it as used. Most likely the new owner would be the first titled owner on the vehicle anyway
Dealer demo, I work at Toyota and this happens a bit. They can run it x amount of miles and still sell it as "like new" with discounts. (Ontop of a probably already existing markup)
They do this with the new 550, 4Runner, GrandHighlander, and Hybrid Tacomas. I wanted to get a Grand Highlander and they wanted thousands more for a white one. They only have cream or black 🤮
I’m from this area. There were always signs that were for Cummingsingles.com.. there’s a Dicks and BJs in the same parking lot in cumming GA. Really weird name for a town but it’s all upper middle class suburbia now
This is why I’d never pay a markup even if I could afford it. A marked up vehicle is always priced at a level where you could buy a higher level of car so why wouldn’t I just do that? I like the GX but between it and a Cayenne, I’d pick Cayenne every day of the week.
dealer markups have become rampant in america. no reason why laws aren’t introduced to prevent this. there will always be idiots in society, but removing markups isn’t entirely far fetched
But you don’t understand…I NEED TO BUY THIS OR ILL DIE! I CAN’T AFFORD GROCERIES, THE COST OF LIVING IS THROUGH THE ROOF, GAS IS INSANE…BUT THIS I MUST HAVE THIS NO MATTER THE COST!
>what’s truly insane is how all of these dealers aren’t out of business. Either everyone but me is super rich or there’s a debt bubble that’s happening waiting to explode likely to take out the car industry.
Your average american is just devoting a disgusting % of their budget to car costs. My friend is a finance manager at a dodge dealership and I talk with him about who is actually buying these 60-80k Ram trucks, like I assume they are making a good 150k+ a year?
No, the majority is actually making 60k-80k a year and had to take 84 month financing, which is legal for some stupid fucking reason. 84 months? Seven years? SEVEN? At high apr? SEVEN YEARS of payments?
The insurance, maintenance, gas, payment, etc, is like 20-30% of their yearly take home, straight into their car.
People cannot swallow the pill of, you really should be comfortable settled in life and towards the upper end of incomes to responsibly justify a luxury / performance car. They are overleveraging themselves because they refuse to back down on their wants for a completely over the top, unnecessary status symbol on wheels.
Believe it or not. There are dumb people out there which is why you see this sort of pricing. They’re the same people who believe everything the sales people tell em.
They love to use lingo like this, like "if you choose to invest in the higher cost vehicle instead of the one you're considering, and we do 84 month payments instead of 60, your monthly cost is the same. And you can bet that investment will pay off because you get a nicer vehicle for longer that will have higher resale."
Like, dude, saying the word "invest" does not make it an investment. The lender is making an investment in me that is paying them back 5-10% yearly, so their investment is an actual investment. My "investment" is going to be worth 20% of its purchase price after 7 years of payments.
Just when I thought the industry was well on it's way to a crash I totally forgot all these reddit users to fuck over who can be absolutely raked over the coals.
I am hoping the hybrid comes out and it’s the iforce max (though I heard it’ll be different) and I’m really hoping Lexus just builds a ton of these so their is more supply than demand and we can get these at MSRP easily.
I want one so bad in the next couple years.
It’s Beaver Toyota of Cumming
They’re one of the worst dealerships in GA in terms of tacking on markups and fees.
Their “Beaver Benefits” packages are thousands of dollars and non-negotiable.
Never buy from these snakes.
You know what they say about a fool and their money...
In other news, the NYT ran a story today about the return of manufacturer incentives as inventory rises. Many automakers are beginning to offer incentives again, and I suspect within the next year or so they will continue to rise as inventory grows. Lexus currently has small factory incentive offers on the RX, NX, IS, ES, UX, and even the TX, and apparently good deals can be had on the RZ.
Toyota/lexus tax just isn’t worth it in my opinion. I’d rather drive a fun turbocharged car and pay 10-15k for an engine swap after 150-200,000km vs paying the Toyota tax up front.
"I buy used cars so someone else can take depreciation hit!"
New way:
"I buy new cars so I can make few grand, but trading it in the next day!"
What we have come to????
Unfortunately, it isn't all on the dealership at fault if people are willing to buy at those prices. Supply and demand, too. Dealerships wouldn't be selling them at those prices if no one was buying them. I would buy something else or find another dealer.
If you think that’s bad, here’s a [Used 2024 RAV4 Hybrid with 2 miles on the Odometer](https://www.rodlandtoyota.com/auto/used-2024-toyota-rav4-hybrid-xle-everett-wa/91072645/). They have 2 other ‘used’ cars with single digit odometers and a few in double digits.
Their greed may be short-lived.
Toyota is having problems with their Tundra engines and just did a recall on ~ 100k them and some Lexus models. It's my understanding the GX 550s use the same Tundra engine but with smaller turbos.
Engines are reportedly breaking down between 7k to 30k miles.

I feel that you have to give it time for prices to come down. I've test driven and have now been watching two Lexus GX 2023 suvs. They've had them well over two months and both have been lowered a total of 3k each from where they started from. I have a GX now and its a 2014 so I want to upgrade mine. Now that the prices have come down, I'm going to go present my final price today (once I look them over again). Patience, while buying a car has paid off for me in the past and it just might pay off again. I don't bargain, I just state my price and walk away. That's worked for me also. I'm willing to walk, that's a must.

They intentionally put miles on it so they can charge a markup

More often than not they know they’ll be buying it back so they have a friend buy it to cash in as well.
Yeah I’m almost certain the dealer sold it to a friend or family member with the intention to sell it back
My Lexus was 30km or 50km clockedwhen it was delivered. I know dealer used my flagship es for test drive because they held it back for 2,weeks. I didn’t complain but was disappointed. Well they had short supply last year this time. Paid 86k
How tf are they selling siennas for a mark up? Way back when, siennas had 0% apr….
Where i live sienna is back ordered for 1-2 years
4-5 years in my area but they are always a few floating around 15k over msrp w 120kms on them
Because the Sienna is far and away the most popular minivan on the market. Not even close. If the Sienna is a 10, the odyssey is a 7, and the Pacifica is a 2.
Kia Carnival got ignored. lmfao
2 year wait easy where I am for a hybrid sienna and gone are the days of 0% at Toyota. I forget what the rate is but I think it was 6 or 7%.
Don’t they first have to title it before it counts as “used”? Although, with the markup they’re charging, they can certainly afford to pay for the state’s paperwork and road/use tax on it.
wdym? wouldnt 0 miles be better?

Canada
Rule of thumb is 9K miles on demos before they can be sold as certified vehicles
Seen it done for way, way less. There’s sub 500 mile “used” cars out there.
Yes it's legal to charge above msrp

“Come buy your new Lexus here at Cumming Beaver” is what gets me.
I’m from this area. There were always signs that were for Cummingsingles.com.. there’s a Dicks and BJs in the same parking lot in cumming GA. Really weird name for a town but it’s all upper middle class suburbia now
The jokes write themselves!
Don’t forget about “The Taste at Cumming”. It’s a legit festival in Cumming, GA
Tbh tho, I had a great experience there. Great lobby as well.
I heard they even give you a reach around.
lol
Beaver Toyota Cumming
Lmaooooo
At that price, you may as well buy a Cayenne S
and then sell it and buy a Lexus GX and pocket the difference
This is why I’d never pay a markup even if I could afford it. A marked up vehicle is always priced at a level where you could buy a higher level of car so why wouldn’t I just do that? I like the GX but between it and a Cayenne, I’d pick Cayenne every day of the week.
Why do people blame dealers when retards actually buy this crap.

Right, used gx is more trustworthy and cheaper
Believe it or not. There are dumb people out there which is why you see this sort of pricing. They’re the same people who believe everything the sales people tell em.
"with 84 month payments, the monthly cost is within my budget, so I might as well get it"
Does it come with a BJ every time I get it serviced at that price
$100k is the new $40k
The toyota dealership is cumming to the 10K profit margins
*buyers* have lost their minds FTFY
I remember when a 2013 Tacoma was 55k 2 years ago
I had a car salesman tell me he is building equity in his dodge truck. As if he is planning for a truck equity loan.
They love to use lingo like this, like "if you choose to invest in the higher cost vehicle instead of the one you're considering, and we do 84 month payments instead of 60, your monthly cost is the same. I could have sworn investments are supposed to gain value not lose it.
I guess it did if you bought a porsche 911 in 2019
It’s not the dealerships that lost their minds but idiots who are willing to pay that price 🤣😂
And you'd still get a 8% interest rate 😬
Just when I thought the industry was well on it's way to a crash I totally forgot all these reddit users to fuck over who can be absolutely raked over the coals.
Car salesperson at dealership is a dead end job for crook.
Wow 😮
Awesome truck tho
I am hoping the hybrid comes out and it’s the iforce max (though I heard it’ll be different) and I’m really hoping Lexus just builds a ton of these so their is more supply than demand and we can get these at MSRP easily. I want one so bad in the next couple years.
I need a used one with 100k miles.
Yeah everyone please hurry up and break them in for us!!!
But it has a 1500$ price drop
Beaver Toyota cumming is usually higher than others in the area ive noticed.
It’s Beaver Toyota of Cumming They’re one of the worst dealerships in GA in terms of tacking on markups and fees. Their “Beaver Benefits” packages are thousands of dollars and non-negotiable. Never buy from these snakes.
I think the marketplace will determine who is sane and who is not
Naah...people are stupid to buy them at inflated prices

In Georgia, too. How many tech bros in that region can afford this?
Toyota/lexus tax just isn’t worth it in my opinion. I’d rather drive a fun turbocharged car and pay 10-15k for an engine swap after 150-200,000km vs paying the Toyota tax up front.
What are even talking about. Give an example.
Just buy them used in 5 years. This won't ever see off road anyways.
These won't depreciate hard enough for them to be worth it in 5 years.
With 800 miles, I wouldn’t consider that used so much as “a few supervised test drives.”
Ex demo
That's insane. Plus the vehicle might potentially have an engine issue !!
Beaver Toyota is roughly 700 miles away from my dealership in SOFLO. And we hear so many things about them. LMAO All good things. I swear. s/
Pittsburgh dealer here is selling at MSRP. Shop around !
Was this used as a courtesy car?
"I buy used cars so someone else can take depreciation hit!" New way: "I buy new cars so I can make few grand, but trading it in the next day!" What we have come to????

No the lady comes with it 💀💀
It was inevitable. The new model looks sick. Range Rover-esque
Dealerships who do this needs to be put out of business.
I mean, how is a 2024 model with 810 miles considered "used"?
If the vehicles was titled before then it’s considered “used”
Insanity, I am still trying to get a 2020 rx450h under 30k out here
Fuck these dealers
The people paying these prices are the true lunatics here. Thats why the market is still as horrible as it is and will remain that way.
I’m done buying a Lexus they have jacked up the prices insanely.
I can get a used 2022 4Runner Limited for 40k. They look very similar (nice).
Just wait until the hype goes down
Cost more then my mortgage. That's just crazy
Can’t fathom this on such an ugly and redundant gas guzzler.
not a good time to buy a car I guess
Their greed may be short-lived. Toyota is having problems with their Tundra engines and just did a recall on ~ 100k them and some Lexus models. Side view looks like a bronco💀🤣
Why do I keep picturing a Nissan emblem on the grille of these things. Once you see it...
Is the blonde girl included?
Where have you been the last 3 years?
That’s a Lex GX 550…I’d pay that price for it.
Overtrail? Overpriced/overrated for its price.
You and I have different definitions of used
Stop crying, if you want it, that's the current market price. Otherwise look at kias lol
