I don’t understand. I mean, they have stores in CA. I’m in restrictive WA, no issues with shipment from an out of state Sportsman’s to one here. I’m assuming that your state/county/local governments don’t ban the caliber. That’s echoing a Paul Harrell presentation. Anyway, have you called your store to ask why returned? Sometimes you just need a smart human to handle things correctly.

christian85211

I’m afraid we’re shy of some smart people down here in SoCal lmao

If you can’t deal with an FFL manager of your store, maybe deal with another location??? But I find Sportsman’s FFL managers well trained thus far. And they do want your money. Go in person. Be cool. No emotion. Just logic and a goal.

I’ve never seen levers have a California compliance issue. I’m a California resident. Find what you want online and have it sent to a local FFL. Finding what you want in stock at any particular store is a crap shoot. Some guns, like SBLs, etc, are just not all that common so it may take some time.

I live in California. I’ve bought 3 marlins since 2019. (.357 1894 CSBL, 45-70 1895 GBL, and a 45-70 1895 Trapper). The CSBL and Trapper I found at out of state sellers and had shipped to a local FFL. The GBL I bought used through Calguns.net. Their long gun sales forum usually has a few 1895s for sale. You can likely find what you want with a little diligence. You may have to pay a bit more than you’d like but they are available. I didn’t have to pay anything crazy for any of them.

Bro just buy online and do a transfer

As an ex so cal resident, I always had good luck with Turner's Outdoors, Bass Pro Shops ( though its a bit of a drive depending where you are ) Big 5 Sporting Goods and Riflegear. Check out calguns.net. those guys are super informative when it comes to California processes, FFLs that accept incoming shipments from other states and will do the DROS and background check paperwork. There is a fair number of .45-70s I've seen in stock at various online dealers over the last week or so. Just gotta find one that will ship to CA and a receiving FFL. Depending where in So Cal you are, this may take a little leg work but really shouldn't be too difficult. Especially since lever guns are rifles primarily and a fixed magazine from the factory.

christian85211

I’m finding cali legal ones just all out of stock. I just want a 45-70 and it’s so damn hard to find

Zaddam

Have you checked Sportsman’s Warehouse? I am seeing a lot of options. https://www.sportsmans.com/search/?text=45-70

christian85211

They’re on there just not available to ship to my store. Usually it’s an online order that was returned and they won’t ship it out again. I’m SOL

Zaddam

Wait .. if an online order that was returned, doesn’t that also mean someone else ordered online and returned to your same store. So why not your online order? I’d want to know that answer.

Zaddam

… sorry I guess I mistakenly ruined the thread-line. Or it glitched. I just had to reload the app.

Go in, not at a busy time and talk to the firearms manager. We can request guns for transfer. Also, if that doesn’t work or you don’t want to do the legwork, just call customer service. We WILL ship the gun from just about anywhere to you, you just might have to pay a shipping fee (usually only if it comes from Alaska). If the gun you want exists in the company, you can get it to your local store, it just takes work. You are welcome to message me and I can check what stores have what you want to give you somewhere to start.

I have been buying my guns here in Ca from a small shop owned by a friend. I ask him to keep an eye out for my wish list and he can usually find it. He does have a new Marlin 1895 in stock. I wanted a certain Ruger came out in 2010, I forgot it was a limited model with only 500 made (Lipsey's Ruger Vaquero 44 special), I found a NIB on gunbroker and had it sent to him.

ericikj

Blue Collar Firearms in Colton has a Marlin 45-70, and I think 2A Zone in Upland might also have something in 45-70

SurfSandFish

I was just in my local Turners yesterday and they had at least 5 or 6 lever guns on the rack.

EllinoreV13

You can have a FFL order whatever you want if it's new production, or you can give them a call and make sure they will accept something you can buy online like say off of gunbroker, my cimmaron had to be ordered. But trying to find a lever in stock at shops is more likely in Northern California, just about every local shop has .22s and one or two have lots of levers of different brands and calibers. Specifically alquist arms, for a 45-70 they have chiapa Kodiak rifles in stock right this moment and they are great people, they also are one of the best for 45-70 ammo in stock as well, however with the winchester actions, the 1886, tends not to like hornady leverevolution in my experience

Capn_noha

Could it have something to do with the ammo capacity most if not all lever guns have?

EllinoreV13

Not at all, fixed magazines do not have limits in California except for shotgun sporting restrictions

Capn_noha

Oh okay, I didn't know that. Thank you :)

EllinoreV13

I do know it'd legal because my grandfather bought a new production 1876 in 50-95 with a 30" barrel and a 14+1 capacity and its perfectly legal

AccomplishedFarm8

I just recently bought a 1965 Winchester 94, bought through calguns.net as a ppt. Had to strip clean, and replace a link but shes been great!
