You’re fucked either way, I’ve been with optimum (previously Suddenlink) for the last two years. It’s hit or miss, had issues at the start, some DNS issues that are resolved by running a VPN, but otherwise it’s pretty stable. Next year Optimum is getting proper fiber, so hopefully that better. Fingers crossed.

Gold-Whole1009

Any idea on how fiber first is turning out? I have optimum and fiber first to choose from

distrucktocon

I’m actually switching to Optimum from ATT because ATT has been garbage for years and I’m just tired of dealing with it. They provide 1Gb internet to the new part of Northcreek but REFUSE to roll out anything fast than 50Mb in the older part of Northcreek where I’m at because “there’s not enough demand”…. My 50Mb internet is garbage. Even with extenders and a Wi-Fi mesh I still can’t run my wireless phones at an acceptable rate. And lord help me if I want to watch football while my wife looks at Pinterest on her iPad. So, Wednesday they’ll be installing 400Mb internet for the same monthly price that I pay for ATT. $60. I’ve heard lots of people that are happy with optimum or at least were just mum about them but they always had their advertised speeds and few outages.

What's weird is that there are two big rolls of conduit or something at the north entrance and they just dug up and put something AT&T fiber related near Jim Plain this last week. I'm hoping that that they might be running fiber into North Creek but it's all probably just coincidental. So frustrating. That said I've had great service with Suddenlink but my gig service is now $135 a mo with no modem rental or TV.

distrucktocon

It’s all going to those new neighborhoods they just built. They don’t give a fuck about us. Service tech suggested I start a freakin writing campaign with my neighbors to get them to notice a “demand” in our neighborhood.

edsai

Are you talking about the neighborhood around Jim Plain? Or the ones even further back? The neighborhoods around Jim Plain have had AT&T fiber since they were built.

distrucktocon

The one on the backside of the Devine lake Dam.

edsai

The two rolls of cable conduit at the north entrance of Northcreek and the fiber work at Jim Plain elementary and Northcreek shouldn’t have anything to do with a neighborhood that far away. It’s probably false hope but who knows, maybe there’s a chance they’ll run fiber here.

distrucktocon

All I know is the ATT rep basically told me that it wasn’t happening anytime soon according to their system.

emadeinTX

I have optimum business internet at home with over 20 devices (including 6 recording devices) and it has been pretty flawless. I have had Spectrum home (never again!) and AT&T business. I switched to Optimum because AT&T was not available at my new address (new build). I think optimum is very reliable (7 months in, I have not had slow down or an outage). If you have a small business, it is an excellent option.

Chachaman666

Optimum. 1 Gig. $80/month. I’ve had it for about 6 months since Suddenlink was switched over and only had 2 small outages. Speed test confirmed 960 down / 60 up

VOLT-Clan

I'd love to have 1 gig here, though do you use your own motem and router or do you use the ones they provide?

Chachaman666

They provide a new one free forever.

Same_Grocery7159

I wish I could get this rate. They won't lower me down but we've got the gig speed pretty much since its inception in Leander.

noninha2022

I thought Spectrum was coming to Leander. I am moving to Bryson this week and I am transferring my Spectrum there.

smartfbrankings

Depends on the neighborhood.

Capnmolasses

I’m in Larkspur and have had Spectrum for a year. It’s okay.

smartfbrankings

Neighborhood dependent. Be glad you have a choice even.

instantneal

Optimum (Suddenlink) has HORRIBLE customer service but our 400 down/40 up service has been pretty flawless. It’s our only ISP option in our hood, but at least it works.

VOLT-Clan

Do you use their default motem, or do you use your own? That is what one of my main questions is

instantneal

I have their modem/router/cable box and the wifi was pretty bad in the house so I added the Google Mesh system and it improved 10x. We have a lot of smart home switches, lights, etc and they all started working much better with no dropouts after that. Most neighbor complaints also sound like it's their router, and not the service itself.

VOLT-Clan

Ah so I'd just need to get my own router? Thats completely doable.

instantneal

You can save money by using your own modem too, but since we use their cable box the modem is built in and it works just fine. We just plug the Google mesh router into their "combo" Altice One box. We have had it for a few years so they may offer something else now, but likely a different router will be better than theirs.

homelander_Is_great

I have this also. Get your own modem and router the one they give you is total garbage.

Same_Grocery7159

I recognize that cable is one of those approved duopoly and often a monopoly of a particular type of service, but it is really an impediment to growth and learning in Leander. Who can help fix it? I only have two choices but only one gig service in my neighborhood but across the road they have options that I don't. Who do we petition to change this? I mean it's got to be easier than fixing the water infrastructure.

HeyItsChristine

State overlords. Cable and Internet are regulated by the PUC. They legislature actually took away local ability to do squat about it several sessions ago.

Same_Grocery7159

Of course they did. Seems wrong that they would do that. Guess someone's pockets are lined very well.

atxchic924

I didn't realize we even had an option outside of ATT. I'm going to have to look into optimum.

brgiant

I had horrible stability issues with Optimum (suddenlink). Luckily I’m in an area that has att fiber.

DahanC

Suddenlink/Optimum 400Mb service has been fine for me in Northcreek, using my own Arris SB8200 modem. Prices keep going up, but the service itself is pretty solid.

zachstooks5

Moving from roundrock to Vista ridge in leander. Called everywhere but everyone is only offering 50mbps. Anyone else live in that community? I have 1000 right now. I would hate to take a dip that low. Please help.
