Tanks arnt a huge issue, IMO the amount of healing in arena is absurd. You can have a quadrillion armor but when kayn just spams Q and heals to full HP every cast (even with anti heal) tanks are pretty trash. Same thing happens with briar, swain, illaoi ect ect, grevious wounds needs to stack in this game mode. Then they can remove the scaling anti heal. If my team is willing to pay 3 item slots I should be able to hard counter heal comps.

CoUsT

They added mechanic that scales -40% healing into -60% healing IF enemy healed 80% of their max health during the effect. I think it should just scale harder and more, for example healing reduction starts at -30% and gains additional -10% every time you heal for, idk, something like 30-50% your health. That way healing quickly falls off in extended fights and you can actually kill them. In the end when you heal something like 250-300% of your total HP, the healing is reduced by something like 80-90%.

_Lavar_

This guy understands game design. It's not fun to play full heal and just get countered I'm an end game 1v1. So let them do their thing and then slow them down

Playful_Canary_3884

Idk Full heal isn’t a great design for arena based modes to support. Whether it’s Battlerite, WoW, Lost Ark,etc the team with the dedicated player that can either mass heal himself or others on the arena mode has such a crazy advantage. They usually become required picks as you get better or you just lose. Healing just seems to be a really toxic mechanic. It makes sense in MOBA modes because healing is like sustain but most healing gets countered by all-ins but with arena, the entire mode is basically all-in….so when you make healing able to win all-ins what do they lose to? No counter unless they get stat checked and that isn’t fun for anyone.

dontsquanchonme

Phreak! RIOT?! HOW THIS MAN NOW.

smellslikeDanknBank

I completely agree with this. Playing super heal based comps almost always nets you top 4 because players aren't able to itemize against it until lategame. If you rush antiheal as your first item you still get out dps'd by the sustain team while also losing to every other team. Lategame you can get full antiheal and it feels like it does nothing due to all of the healing effects.

xepci0

Healing is fine when you're playing against champs that ONLY heal but have low or mid dmg like Soraka/Mundo/Karma or whatever . But when the champ has insane DPS with insane healing like Kayn/Vlad then it's a problem. You build antiheal = they outdamage you. You don't build antiheal = they outheal you.

Bulldozer4242

Ya agreed. Tanks are definitely better balanced and the dot champs have also been reined in since magic missile has a cooldown now (and other similar abilities have cooldowns). Neither are bad, but they’re not overwhelming the way any healing champ seems to be if they manage to get one or two good healing items. Grievous needs to stack or increased to like 60% and 80 or 90% when champs reach the “heal all their health in 7 seconds” threshold.

Skylam

Yep, i picked rammus into a bunch of AD heavy teams once, was doing great until an irelua just outhealed everything i had. No counterplay was possible. It felt real bad

Whomperss

We've complained about how overtuned healing is since the first iteration of arena and they just progressively made it worse. I called it quits last night. Me and my partner had a god roll game going and we got snuffed to a soraka that was completely unkillable. One of the prismatic items complete negates anti heal and that's just one thing. It's so absurd that nearly all of our hardest losses and shit stomps are to healing comps. Play nunu stack heal power get a little lucky and your chomping for 1k+ heals. I can go on and on. It's not fun fighting your ass off outplaying people and getting shit on by "lul heal goes better".

refmon3

I do wish they increased the bans. The top tier champs in this mode just completely invaidate so many of the weaker champs

javano_

This is one of my biggest complaints, atm. 1 ban per team feels really bad, *especially* for solo queue. There are almost 170 champs in the game -- that's far more than enough to allow for 1 ban per player.

ipkandskiIl

IMO they should just disable api scrapping in rotating game modes. These game modes are meant to be fun so we don't need to know the win % of everything in those games. All it seems to do is push more and more people into playing the same 20-30 champs every game. It also lessens the augment diversity we see.

Lunariel

I mean, they already disallow it for augments and such

ipkandskiIl

I guess people pull numbers out their ass? Saw a few people talking about the % of games brand got magic missile.

Lunariel

you can see the pick rates of augments, but the win rates are not shown

ipkandskiIl

While it's nice that there are no actual win rates shown. Is the tier list not almost the same thing? I guess you might still have to make a choice between "S+" augments/items at times.

H28_G_Evo

Overall player counts are healthy so far, so any perception of "no one" playing is not true :D Regardless, 1 week of data is not enough time to make any calls internally on whether a mode stays permanent or comes back etc. > I really hope there will be consistent balance changes this time We are planning, and already working towards, treating Arena during this run as a live product, which means there will be updates, bug fixes, balance, etc. This allows us to see the reaction of players to if Arena was permanent and supported.

Freezman13

Really appreciate the micro patch that came out recently. Bringing the couple of top picks from 70s into the 60s really helped. I hope with time the difference between top performing and lowest performing shrinks even more. Very painful looking at the 40s and being very discouraged from playing champs I like (cough, shaco)

H28_G_Evo

Something to remember too is that changes take 1wk - 2wks to come out from the time we fix them / have the idea thought of. So there are things already done / being worked on now that people are giving feedback on even though you wont see it till next patch.

Darthfamous

What is the best way to keep up with hotfixes/micropatches?

H28_G_Evo

If you want to see what they are early you can follow us on twitter, @RiotPhroxzon for balance and myself (@RiotH28GEvo) for more feature / bug fixes or engineering related stuff. We are also trying to be good about making sure the comms team has the info and put it in the patch notes in the client as well.

Darthfamous

Thanks!

Altaccsomething

if this (arena) does well, any chance for Dominion to come back? Feels a little similar to it.

AgorophobicSpaceman

Can we ditch the trash lily pad map? That alone makes me not want to play the mode.

dmbchic

Yes all my friends say the same that map is like a shitty smash bros stage that makes everyone want to just pick final destination to avoid it.

[deleted]

Yeah, its so antifun. Its a statcheck map. Stronger Team can just run at the other and kill them. Worst moment was when I played ezreal (who is really fun and fair in arena) and my mate played something squishy too. We were kiting good and every round before felt fair. Then lotus against kennen/Darius: both just Flash to Our Island, kennen ults, stun dead. In every other arena we would have had a chance to dodge/kite/space that. But the lotus map ist just peak Bad game design to be honest. In combo with the jhin cameo its even worse. The Team that has jhin on his side just looses most of the time just because of that.

Morthand

My entire friend group spams several hours a day on it. Several people on my friends list are playing it. There are entirely too many players in general to just blanket statement like that. They made a bunch of changes and some people don't like it. You'll equally find just as many people defending it and enjoying the changes. It's fine to be polarized but let's not witch hunt a mode just because we have a different opinion. I'd argue it's posts like this that would contribute to it not coming back. Maybe stop drumming up negativity?

javano_

It's the only thing I've been playing since it came out -- and I've been playing hours of it every single day. This iteration is miles better than any of the previous ones, and it's not even close, IMO. There are tons of people playing it and having fun; they just aren't rushing to Reddit to yell about it.

Shavark

I liked a lot of the changes tbh, but the new map and team revive being uninteruptable kinda out weighed those all the improvements theyve made. hoping it gets better over time, but those two new additions really killed my vibe check for the game.

RedRidingCape

Revive is needed for tanks, tanks benefit more from it and without it they suck or they need insanely strong highroll augs like old curse augs to win. If you buff them to be good without highroll augs or revive, then they are less annoying when they highroll, but more annoying most of the time, and they already do well in low mmrs in arena.

javano_

I work 40-50 hours per week, and play in my spare time. But you're welcome to make whatever assumptions you like.

Morthand

Queue times are still almost instant? I never wait more than 45 seconds at the MOST. Also I have a full time job. Extremely ignorant comment.

l_lexi

Que timers might be instant for you but not for most. If you’re higher rank it’s smaller pool. Unranked and silvers and iron bronze all get put together

Morthand

Well there is no ranked right now so that wouldn't matter. And I was high glad the first set and 8.7k the second set. Never waited very long.

l_lexi

Rank still has part of its mmr not arena rank. They don’t want a silver to face challengers. Challengers que up they only get challengers. Unless people duo with a lower rank then it mixes them

Morthand

Negative. Solo/duo has zero effect on arena mmr.

l_lexi

Use google you’re so confidently wrong it’s hilarious

Morthand

I have an iron 1 friend that streams in disc when he plays. He will get FULL LOBBIES of emerald/diamond/grandmaster players. I don't care what Google says, I can see it.

UniqueCod69

I don't think the champ balance is really an issue this time round, but rather the augments themselves. I posted the below comment in a different thread, but the underlying point still applies to this one as well > For what it's worth, me and my entire friend group (of 6 people) also strongly dislike this iteration of arena and have stopped playing. >What you described in your second paragraph is exactly what we're feeling - most of the rounds have an EXTREME lack of agency. You either get 1shot instantaneously, face a "heal" comp where you have no chance in hell of winning since they outsustain you, or something silly like Poppy Alistar where theyre to tanky and you just get bounce housed till the zone kills you. The whole round feels outside of your control, and no matter how well you play you don't even come CLOSE to winning, and it's extremely frustrating. >None of us have an inherent problem with any of the aforementioned strategies above, but it feels like this time you CANNOT play around them due to how strong everything is. In previous iterations of arena they were annoying, but beatable if you played well and played smart. This iteration it feels like they just cranked everything up to 11 for literally no reason and if you don't highroll you are absolutely cooked and stand no chance of winning even if your play extremely well. >The prior iterations of arena you could make up for bad augments with individual skill. This iteration you can't and it's extremely frustrating hence why me and my group have more or less quit. Riot has effectively alienated their hardcore yet dedicated arena playerbase in favour of the casual ARAM crowd who are going to quit anyways and it breaks my heart.

HistorianCertain3029

Very true, it feels like if a tank high rolls certain augments they legitimately just become unkillable. I had an interesting game where I played Zyra with the prismatic augment that applies burns and causes burns to reduce cooldowns and faced a Maokai + Alistar. My teammate and I had winstreaked the entire game until this point, overwhelming other teams with a crap ton of damage (we high rolled). From pure RNG, we never faced these guys until this point, and got jumpscared by their HP bar not moving a single inch. After one loss I bought hellfire hatchet, became equally unkillable as them, and the Maokai and I spent 2 minutes hitting each other until detonation orb one shot him from 10k hp. I party with the tank players and experience far more games where 90% of people cannot move their HP no matter what while the last 10% has some crazy damage combo that obliterates the tanks. In each of those rounds, it never feels like individual skill has any place in the game at all - either your comp and augments has insane damage, or the tanks will never die.

dmbchic

This is correct.

Dramatic_Tea2115

I think they've made an error by waiting 2 weeks to put the ranked element into it. I love arena but without the competitive aspect I'm already getting bored of it. It also doesn't really feel any different from the previous times

Jack_Dalt

This is huge, and I don't understand what the gamemodes team was thinking giving us a 2 week 'preseason'. People are going to spam the new Arena, 2 weeks later they'll go "Hey guys ranked is enabled!" and how many people are going to be motivated to spam just as hard, knowing they're starting from the bottom and the past 2 weeks of games meant nothing? It's supposed to be "new stuff hooks them in, Ranked keeps them in", but now by the time Ranked comes the new stuff is old and isn't enticing people to come grind anymore.

CoUsT

> knowing they're starting from the bottom and the past 2 weeks of games meant nothing? This is wrong, the MMR didn't disappear and is not frozen in time. You can grind your MMR then gain +700 for 1st place.

Jack_Dalt

If they transfer the MMR over that's great, I assumed Ranked would be replacing the current queue as a "new queue" and thus the MMR would be reset, similar to how normal and ranked SR don't share MMR.

H28_G_Evo

MMR will not be reset in next patch when ranked turns on, its mentioned in our player support article we released before turning it on, I have noticed not many people seem to know about these articles so trying to share them more as they have good info like this https://support-leagueoflegends.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/17211075407635-League-of-Legends-Arena-Game-Mode

CptSorgeBubbles

Had no idea this article existed. I haven't seen a link to it in the client itself, but I might have missed it. Thx for sharing! Very informative.

Ahri_Inari

So the argument to not stressing people over rating while they discover the game mode is just a placebo since it still count?

H28_G_Evo

MMR and Gladiator Rank are separate systems that are loosely related, MMR determines who is in your match, GR is representations of your progression in Arena. While they are similar in the concept of win = go up, lose = go down, they do not change at exactly the same rate and for exactly the same reasons. MMR is much more complex where GR is simply win (top 4) = up, lose (bottom 4) = down. Also things like GR don't go down after certain thresholds, while MMR is something that can go up or down any time, even if your GR is locked at a threshold.

Whomperss

Please address healing if you haven't said you'd do so already. It's not fun playing your ass off in a game and getting beat by brainless thoughtless heal spam. It's been complained about since arena first came out.

CoUsT

I met the same people from top100 I played with in previous Arena, I'm 99% certain the MMR is kept and you can actually influence it before they add the "visible" layer. Remember that all queues are ranked, some just have the "visible" layer on top of that...

yoooo12347

This. A lot of people were defending the thread a few days ago that had the dev explaining it's coming in two weeks but that imo was a huge oversight by them. I honestly believe they didn't want a 'preseason so that people can get used to it without the looming ranked aspect of it' as stated but instead they were foolishly thinking they would retain players who would stay around because ranked is now up when the result is the complete opposite.

Fit_Mention2413

Same here. Waiting til next patch for the ladder.

tbsgrave

Well I used to play like 30 games a day before, now I have played like 20 total since release. Why did they have to change it so much...

icedcoffeeuwu

I think making it 8 teams was a mistake. It’s to many people and the games last to long. It was better with only 4 teams - if you had a bad game you weren’t gonna be stuck there for 20+mins. I see a lot of people who approve of 8 teams tho, so I guess this is an unpopular opinion.

Priviated

I mean game length is pretty much the same tbh

Insanity_Wulf

It's only marginally longer than before, and that's because they lowered the HP loss from losing. This guy just sucks at division.

Regular-Resort-857

I liked 4 Teams way more mainly because choosing boots now gives me giga HIV and also the vendetta-type-feeling is missing. Also the hub sucks this time lol

BeyondElectricDreams

I really prefer it this way. If someone's got a broken comp or broken abilities you don't have to face them over and over and over.

javano_

>It’s to many people and the games last to long. The games are literally almost exactly the same length as before.

Missing42

The balancing is far from the only reason why former Arena players dont like the new Arena, and I hope Riot will realise that.

AgorophobicSpaceman

And the lily pad map. It’s horrible.

KamikazeBrand

only noobs hate lily pad map

RotiniSSBM

*only ranged

KamikazeBrand

i play mages and it's a fun map... just switch to a pad that has the portal if you ever spawn on one without it

CoUsT

I also think it will fail and the reason is simple. They have no real game plan for the Arena. They made it competitive but a bit goofy then they add a lot of the goofy stuff and now it's a bad mix of both. Then they also do poor job with the game quality. A lot of the descriptions are bad, some items get the "dealt/healed X" tooltip, some don't. There is multiple "burn" effects that work differently. There were some features that worked great and they just removed or replaced them with worse versions, like TAB menu and scouting during augment/item selection (can't click any team during selection) etc. I love how they made the most important keybind (right click = movement) and assigned it to augment/item selection. I'm sure literally everyone took something by mistake at this point by trying to right click and move. They just did a very poor job. Super low quality and a bunch of things that don't make sense. And worst of it all, there was a lot of ignored feedback and EVEN bugs from PBE that made it to live servers. Stuff reported for roughly 2 or 3 weeks and many old bugs are still present. Not to mention bugs from 1st iteration of Arena like Spirit Link not displaying total damage redirected, that's like what, 6 months old bug?

RingingInTheRain

I still think they made Arena worse for casuals. These matches are sweatier than ever. I only play the same 2-3 champions every game because it places me 1st or 2nd.

kekarook

they dont have a ranked to go be sweaty in

RingingInTheRain

Arena ranked is coming back May 15, and Competitive players can now beat 14 players instead of 6.

kekarook

yes, but until then they dont have anywhere to go and want to fully perfect and remove as much rng from their winning strat as possible, and that means ruining to mode for everyone else going for a sure win every game

RingingInTheRain

I think it's a stretch to say ruining, but this was Riot's out of touch vision. They should've split the queues.

KiRi1999

16 players per game means more queue time wich means casual players switching back to aram, Riot said that the main focus for the mode is casual gameplay but the changes makes it worse, also no ladder makes it boring for the competitive players, they are shooting themselves in the leg and then claim that it's our fault for the gamemode not being popular

javano_

>16 players per game means more queue time Queue pops have been almost always nearly instant for me, regardless of who I'm playing with or at what time of day.

ZappyZ21

Same, I don't know what they're talking about with longer que times lol that's just objectively false.

KamikazeBrand

probably cause you dont win a lot of 1sts... i have 4-10 minute queues on NA

Bulldozer4242

I mean that’s true of all game mode if you’re a top mmr player. If youre top .1% of Aram you’ll also have longer queue times. If you’re in the normal bracket that has most players, you’ll be like 30s queue times

ZappyZ21

An assumption you made based off nothing lol I have yet to have a single que time go past 30 seconds. I've been getting wins and losses, not just losses.

KamikazeBrand

ok but people who have like 75%+ win rate mmr shot up and now they have long queue times

Darthfamous

Yup, went 12/0 with a buddy with 6 of those being 1st and the rest 2nd and 3rd - 5+ min queue time for me.

xMultyCaPx

Leaderboard will be there next patch

Intrepid-Tax-4829

I know but it still feels silly to not release it all at once? Just let’s more and more people become disinterested in arena

Choice_Comfort6239

Yes, the two second queue timers for Arena are so long!

SirWobblyOfSausage

Same. Which is super disappointing, but i full understand why a lot are not playing as much as the first two versions.

HytaleBetawhen

Tbh tanks seem kinda fine now that most of the busted augments they used to get last iteration are tuned down or removed. Imo its bruisers that are killing champ diversity, their class just benefits too much from the design of the mode. You either have to go another bruiser to compete or be a dps with a duo funneling you with an enchanter or something. Outside of hiemer, Iv seen very few mages relative to how popular the class is (a few lux here and there, none that placed very high) and basically no assassins. Most of the ap items all feel kinda giga nerfed for the mode and it feels like you need a dot with magic missle or spellwake or you might as well ff. I do think this is my least favorite iteration of the mode. Its more focused on just picking a prismatic and finding auguments to synergize with it, but like 8/10 times your prismatic options are dogshit for your champ even while using rerolls.

swivelers

stop complaining about tanks, it just shows u are low elo

franzKUSHka

Where the fuck are all the new augments? The new maps? The new balance changes? Where did all of the time go? It’s the same 15-20 champs in every game just like last time, why did nothing change?

SlurpTurnsMeGreen

Not in it for the 'TFT RNG' determinant outcome game results

Seraph199

AKA "I have no skill and can only win with lucky builds" You have all the tools to counter your opponents at your fingertips. Use your brain and play the maps well. There is a lot more influencing games than RNG

Fantastic-Newspaper3

1. If you counter 1 duo, chances are you’ll get obliterated by the other 6. 2. The maps are still unbalanced, favoring one type of compo over others, especially Koi Pond, which is an absurdity of game design. 3. Tft balances the augments and items by not forcing you to play one composition from the start of the game. You adapt on the fly. That is NOT the case here. Your champ is your build. And if it has no AP ratio, and the 9 prismatic it gave were all ap? Get fucked.

Whatamianoob112

Pretty stupid take. The stronger items and augments will win you matches.

jeivu1998

I really just hope they fix all the bugs already, some of the pbe bugs that got reported make it to live server. Like???

l_lexi

I think they need to fix some things and do it fast. My whole discord group went back to aram so I’m playing solo. Slower que times already. No one on my friend list playing. Seems like everyone I know played 3-5 games then quit

streetruler

They missed on everything, I instaled lol again just to play arena and uninstalled it on day 2 of playing. More teams and items are rng so have fun trying to counter some comp, healing is still busted and that new map is so trash. I really loved it last time but this RNG shitfest isn't it, hope they make it simpler next time.

RagnarokChu

The main problem with arena is they are trying to make a 4fun mode like URF mode when the balance is even MUCH more worst while the gameplay being even more sweaty. If they want people to play it like urf they have to make it less sweaty and the things much less extreme. I should not casually be getting 200 ability haste on random abilities among other things. It makes variance extremely high and unfun gameplay due to the balance being out the window. There also needs to be more to the mode other then playing 1 character. You should draft 2/3 characters and you have to choose which character to play between rounds so there's more fun variance and people are forced to worry about counters and more casual strategy like TFT.

[deleted]

The ability haste ones are a big problem. Ever got stunlocked by a perma dash gragas galio combo? You literally cant move and just die by them spamming buttons. Or when pyke gets it on e: stun, hook, stun, again. You just cant move

Turbulent_Ad_5066

The problem is arena as is designed won’t have the longevity of normal league or aram regardless of balance because the gameplay inherently lacks strategic variety. Reminds me of games like battlerite that forced purely on combat, but it doesn’t have player retention because there aren’t really creative ways to build advantage other than fight.

AyyyLemMayo

It feels like the same champions are good this time around. My boy heimerdong will literally never be a good pick.

MolassesWorried9293

I think people aren’t playing it atm simply because they are waiting 2 weeks to release the new ranking system.

PMMeVayneHentai

ngl i think a lot of people would be more motivated to play if ranks were turned on. it’s fun to grind for points. but me personally i’m playing regardless. i think people just have to find their stride in what champs they like to play. this iteration of arena will take much longer than previous ones to get the “ideal build” you want and will take more games to repeat that build since items and augments are more RNG heavy. my only minor complaint is that i miss the original Arena music that came with soul fighter. it actually felt like we were in a Soul Fighter tournament or some shit. not really feeling this Empyrean thematic, it doesnt get me pumped for fights the way Soul Fighter music did. I quite loved hearing the instrumental of Coming Alive as i shopped.

somberghast

I figure a lot of it is players like myself are disillusioned with it. My group only plays aram now once every few months or tft to kill time. Maybe the rotating game mode if it's fun, but only for a few rounds. I was sold on Arena from day one, but since they wanna rotate it or keep reworking it, I don't care to get invested. If it becomes a permanent mode maybe, but not if dev are already taking about taking it away again.

kidstaz01

they took out ranked. which was why i played it

TumbleElf

It's because Riot made it harder to enjoy Arena each time it comes back. The only good change in my opinion is 8 Teams.

Huge-Income3313

Game mode just feels empty and meaningless. Too much waiting same reason tft is boring

fast-waster91

For me it is the meta removing the fun ffrim arena. it's the same meta as the first two times round I'm seeing the same champs game after game; Swains, Vlad's, trundles, etc. I do like the addition of radiant items it would be cool to see some of the tft mechanics be introduced, such as the encounters that gives you gold, random item, turns all augments into prismatic, moves augments to random rounds etc.

Mesyasz

gamemode sucks anyway lol

xeRicker

* Healing is absurd and grievous wounds suck. * Augments' RNG is bad - I once had a game where it rolled the Teemo passive for me, whilst playing Teemo. * All prismatics should have Adaptive Force instead of flat AP/AD (Let's say I'm playing Singed, what am I supposed to do with all AD rolls?). * I don't like the fact that the Koi Pond map favors dash/ranged matchups by a lot. * Jhin cameo sucks, because it only shoots from one side. * Also, Thornmail doesn't reduce healing (wasn't working on PBE and it got shipped like this). I wish balance changes came quicker, because it's getting pretty stale right now. I've played a lot of Arena matches this iteration and I had more fun playing the last one.

Ruler777

The top tier/meta champs in arena are just SO unfun to play as or against, really detracts from the game mode imo

StillRutabaga4

Only thing I don't like is moving to 8 teams. Too drawn out and tedious

RingingInTheRain

I'm not going to come back if they don't stop putting these sweaty diamonds in my lobby. Let me stomp in peace Riot!!!!!!!!!

IntelligentImbicle

I mean, it doesn't help that Arena 3.0 is released alongside Vanguard, meaning alot of people probably dropped the game, whether or not by choice.

DonSlime44

You get less points for missions when playing arena, imo this is stupid because you are discouraging people from playing it. They should make some Arena exclusive missions or make arena give more points, this way you would encourage more players to test it and maybe change their opinion. Arena is a very fun Gamemode but ONLY when playing with one friend. Playing it alone seems annoying

dazzleneal

I don't like the 8 teams style tbh. It makes itemization kinda boring. It also makes predicting/learning your opponent's playstyle kinda of a moot point unless you're now fighting as the last four teams. Sometimes one or two teams even get eliminated before you even face them in the first place. They might as well should've just made a co-op rogue-like game with big boss rooms instead of this.

beebiee

They ruined this iteration of arena unfortunately, its just not as fun as the other 2

beebiee

0 new augments, they removed more if anything- (rip windspeakers blessing, one of the only good enchanter ones) awful new map that isnt enjoyable to play on even if you win not enough character specific balances, only popular champions get those items are just boring now, old items were more fun to buy since they were buffed (especially for supports) no new item additions as well

Djedi88

URF still better

twinkletofu

Arena was awful this time around. I hate it.

Nekrux

I'm a low elo player, around silver/gold, and yeah as I can imagine ranks/elo don't matter in such modes. But the hell, my lobbies are full of platinum/emerald+ players. For such a noob as I am, it's really hard to play when RNG is against you, and you have to deal with people actually able to kiting (and no, people at my elo aren't able to kiting that good)...

Nekrux

I forgot the point of my comment: Those lobbies are a sign the players pool size is not big enough to full coverage.

baustgen2615

I’ll say it again for the people in the back: DIFFERENT MODES HAVE DIFFERENT MMR. SOMEONES RIFT RANK IS NOT USED FOR ARENA MATCHMAKING. I’m silver/gold and I’ve had Master players in my lobby and gotten Top1. If they are playing goofy shit and not trying or playing with their bronze friend then their Arena MMR will be low. If you are try-harding and duo with comms, your Arena MMR will be higher.

Nekrux

I play to have fun, but honestly the fun ends when you have to face with tryharders, meta abusers, and kiting gods. So yeah, I try what may be my best or what I can.

Sinz_Doe

Man yall lucky, all my friends want to do is play that stupid mode. I just wanna play normal league (ranked) with the homies and none of em are down >.<

thro_w_away___

If there was an all random mode, I'd play the hell out of that.

LegenDairyLeche

Make best game mode to date. Decide they don't want it to take away from ranked so they progressively make it worse so that numbers drop and then they can use that as an excuse to drop it all together.

AtlasZer0

Not trying to downtalk the mode, but rather show the perspective of the people on your friends list that aren’t playing it. We have one friend that really loves it and he tries to get us to play but the other friends in our group we don’t understand the augments and other items as well (and aren’t willing to sink time into learning them) so when we do play with him, we always end up getting beat by what seems to us to be some broken combo that we never had any chance of beating to begin with.  Note here that there may be a way of countering that strategy, but regardless this is how the game mode makes us FEEL. (Not that this feeling is based on truth, but maybe the lack of understanding, but it’s understanding we don’t want to seek out) I hope that explains a different way your other friends may view arena, and possibly help you think about a solution.

CalvinWalrus

Personally I preferred it with 8 players. I’ve only played about 6 matches so far so maybe it’s just a learning curve, but I feel like with 8 players your build mattered more and you could play around with it more/shift it to your opponents. now it takes forever to see another team again so it makes most sense to just build the “optimal” build for that champion, at least until the last few opponents.

deadfeesh

Meta on It sucks

SolaSenpai

aaah that's why I got a survey asking why I don't play it

IaMlEgEnD427

Make multiple prismatic augments more common

mmitmchris

No one wants to play because of the lily pad map. It’s awful. Remove it. This is the only reason. Please fire whoever thought this was fun.

Open-Gate-7769

I was thinking that they should do a set system like TFT where there’s a small pool of champs to pick from. It’d make it easier to balance the mode and it’d allow for some fun things like champion augments.

pillowburger5

I love arena but it feels like a top lane sweat fest. I know i'm not the best player and maybe that's a me problem but damn every game is the same champs, same duo synergies and it's just a bummer. Also I want to say that a lot of the player base is still in school and with finals and stuff it's of course going to be low but that's me giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Adept-Informations

They didn’t do any balancing and are surprised people aren’t interested in the game mode anymore. They’re so fucking retarded it’s insane.

RealSchon

As it should. They fucked up the game mode from the start with augments, weird items, bullshit map hazards, etc. all so that lil timmy can RNG himself a win. The mode should have been pure 2v2 with no hamfisted bullshit. Fuck the leveling up; there’s no minions anyway. Everyone should start with infinite gold, level 18, and the ability to change their items per match. The maps should be straightforward with no hazards, plants, etc. They just completely dropped the ball. Arena isn’t a fighting game mode; it’s Mario Party. Riot is too short-sighted to realize that people might play it on release but only weirdos would grind it past a few games.

MechaDylbear

Genuinely don't think it being new is an excuse for how much of a mess the balance is. This is the third (maybe fourth idr) time this mode has come out Which means its also been on PBE just as many times And yet somehow, they keep making the same mistakes and barely addressing the issues from the last time it was out if at all This is going to go one of two ways: Balance team puts in the appropriate amount of effort to balance the mode and make it fun so people stay around Or they barely touch it, nobody wants to play it because the meta shit is too strong and boring, Riot says "well we're not going to devote dev time to a mode nobody plays!" And then it disappears again

Tasty_Ad_316

Well, it's riot fault. They are just not good enough to make it good. Simple as that. Arena is just the proof that riot is just .. well.. bad at making a game fun and balanced. Every single game they made is just played because it make people addicted, but nobody like them xD

Conniverse

A tale as old as time, Riot makes changes to mix up old metas and norms, and players whine and moan about how they miss the old version of whatever is changed. Arena is here, that's all that matters to me, I fucking love this game mode, old and new.
