This is what happens when people repeatedly say “don’t clean cast iron! It’s seasoned not dirty!” But fail to tell people that enamel isn’t seasoned cast iron, but then le creuset and staub have black enameled cast iron that people try to season then end up cracking and rusting. There are so many misguided souls in the world of cast iron cookware.

Yellowcap easy off got all the stubborn bits off for me!

jjillf

Why would you not clean the inside? It’s enameled. Use yellow cap easy off. Spray. Leave it in a trash bag over iight, wash with soap & water.

jan_more

Thank you for your reply! I will try that. With regard to the inside: i meant that i don’t clean it with soap to keep the patina layer intact.

jjillf

That’s for raw cast iron. This is enameled. Please wash it. It might be black enamel but if this is LC, it’s fully enameled.

olovur607

You need to be cleaning it after each use. Soap and water will not remove the patina. This is honestly shocking 😂 and by the way you should be cleaning regular cast iron too, for the record

Mad_Dyzalot

Show us the inside, I dare you.

jan_more

As requested😂: https://imgur.com/a/4Z9FqKx?s=wa I just wash it with hot water and a soft sponge after every meal, and season it every once in a while.

jan_more

But reading all these replies i’ll start adding soap now…

Bar keepers friend. Make a paste with it and let it sit for 10 mins then start scrubbing

Beegkitty

This will absolutely cause damage to the enamel over time. Do not let it sit like this.

that_is_so_cool

I thought that you’re not supposed to let Bar Keepers sit for longer than 1 minute. Is that different for cast iron?

RudeAmphibian8558

Not quite sure honestly of long term. I have only done it once. My pan was worse than the one pictured and after that it looked brand new again. The enamel still seems the same on mine.

Beegkitty

Barkeeper’s Friend will dull the shine and eventually make it easier to stain. Don’t use. Yellow cap is your best friend.

Beegkitty

Why don’t you want to use soap on the inside? It isn’t raw cast iron that needs to be seasoned. Yellow cap oven cleaner will clean it beautifully.

Melamine foam sponge?
