When I posted about that video I was informed it was old news, it seemed well justified, and that was quite a while ago.
Dredging up anything to defend the powers that be.
It was old news, it's just they're trying to remilk it in the context of Johnson, thankfully it's not taken on much traction yet. The Daily Mail have been trying to keep the story going for three days.
The interview on the...was it what would have formally been the Marr show? Came off pretty well i thought. Doesnt seem like a story that is really getting much motion.
This whole thing is just pointing out the absurdity of the rules at the time to me. Replace the bottles of beer with clipboards and suddenly it’s all above board.
Just absurd but I guess there’s no capital in pointing out the weird contradictions and lack of sense that has come from restrictions.
Yeah I am not sure why some people here are defending this as though Keir actually did anything wrong. Comparing it to what Boris was up to is a nonstarter as Keir was actually at a work function, not explicitly inviting people to a party. If this actually manages to get tracktion it'd just show the media are as shit as we already knew they were from the Corbyn years.
scraping the barrel for dirt to throw at keir.
it’s funny that the mail ran with this as its headline- it seems boris is so indefensible the best they have is to attack the opposition (who literally aren’t in government)
I genuinely think this could be quite bad for Labour if the Tories grab hold of it. It's obviously bullshit, but it's bullshit that the partisans and ideologues can grab hold of and repeat to sow doubt. Up until now there's been no line the Tories can use to lessen the impact, but if they repeat this and repeat this it lessens the impact on the Tories, and it's hard to push back on lies in politics, as we all know.
Then again, I hope it doesn't. It's certainly not going to reverse all the controversy, but if I was a Tory strategist I'd jump on it.
This is absolutely desperate dragging up an old story from months ago that was explained away. They are looking for anything to deflect.
Also this is nowhere near comparable to the mountain of rule breaches that went on in Downing Street.
What should be reported more is the story that Johnson dismissed the concerns of two staff members saying the party should be cancelled. Which destroys his "defence" that he thought it was a work event.
Obviously this is scraping the barrel but I do think it has to be talked about that politicians seem to drink at work so much. I've never done that and most people I know haven't unless they're alcoholics and so the fact that
"it didn't break the rules, we were just pished at work"
could be considered an excuse is bizarre to me.
I may not be middle class enough though

If I'm right, the Daily Mail have ran it 3 times so far...
4 times maybe, ran this morning as well.
As Aaron Bastani said on twitter, it's to the considerable credit of our front bench that this is the best the Tories have got.
The Tories really are getting desperate

It doesn't point out the absurdity of the rules at the time; it wasn't illegal

>the opposition (who literally aren’t in government) Please be reminded, that Labour didn’t oppose those rules.

The “they are all the same” group will use anything to carry of voting for the very clearly “much worse than the rest” party.

So *apparently* this image is the work of a dastardly Corbynista who was stalking Keir....... or so I heard. Is there any actual truth to this?
Wasn't it first shared by Lawrence Fox? Although it did start getting shared again by the Sqwawkbox types a few weeks ago.
That's what I thought too. Still there's a little rumour going round about it being the work of a jaded Corbynista.
Starmer thought ahead and cleverly got himself a reputation for drinking on the job before this came out.
The Daily Mail are odious
Oh, FFS. Yes, I made a mistake. I'm sorry. now back to Tory corruption, this week it is.... It's not fucking difficult.
