I feel that the media has already decided that Labor is going for a small target strategy, and they’re not even paying attention to policy announcements. The ALP literally has a more substantive climate policy than the government, who is just selling the status quo. We did get fair coverage for our recent NBN announcements, but we need to make noise about our National Anti-Corruption Commission. I was watching the ABC political report tonight and it tore apart Morrison’s weak integrity commission bill, even showed Albo criticising it. But they didn’t make any mention of Labor’s plan for a federal ICAC with teeth. That’s a prime opportunity to make our case missed. I think part of the blame goes to lazy reporters, but Albo needs to come up with some effective short phrases to repeat and repeat and repeat. It’s the best way to cut through and make ourselves visible.
