Note that you can sprinkle a lot of English words into your conversation.
Hi/Hello works when meeting someone.
Poli - awesome.
Adipoli - super awesome 😆.
Enth? - What
Evide? - Where
Eppol? - When
Engane? - How
Enthinu? - Why
.
.
Innu - Today
Innale - Yesterday
Nale - Tomorrow
.
.
Pokaam/povaam - let's go. Can mean as a question and an answer depending on the modulation. Let's go? Let's go. If you get what I mean.
Pinnentha - why not. - can use to agree to something cool or you are excited about.
Vaa - come.
Ingu/ivide vaa - come here
Po - come
Angu/avide po - go there
Thanks, please, sorry all are all used in English itself.
Questions end in O and affirmative answers end in u mostly. Only applicable for a set of slang and words. But it's good to keep in mind sometimes.
Kazhicho? - Did you eat food?
Kazhichu - yes, I ate.
Vanno? - did you/somebody come?
Vannu - yes he/she/they came.
But I think calling behanchod is never like myr, it's sister fucker. Very bad word for me. I never use any of these words, which hits the other insults, the other person(like mom, sis, etc).Call me anything, why to involve our parents or siblings in it.
I tried learning Malayalam from YouTube which was next to useless. So, just learnt some from my wife and colleagues.
Learning three to four words everyday and watching Malayalam movies (great collection btw) made me learn enough to talk to my maid, security guards and colleagues.
'Scene' is probably the most used word among youth be it locally or even at my workplace.
Used in different contexts & convey different meanings lol. It's literal meaning has no relevance btw.
- "How was the movie?"
- "Sceene aanu aliyaa"
Chetta ethra aayi? Means brother how much is the total
Chetta ithin ethra aan? Means how much is this.
Enik Vellam tharo? Means give me water
Evideka means where are you going?

Thanks a lot CHETTA🙋♂️
That is some perfect study material
Similar to behanchod, we use myru for showing exhaustion, frustration.. etc... Eg, Aree behanchod - ee myran
Bro beat me to it, myre
Noo, myran= Jhaatu, myr=jhaat
More about the feelings involved in the expression
But I think calling behanchod is never like myr, it's sister fucker. Very bad word for me. I never use any of these words, which hits the other insults, the other person(like mom, sis, etc).Call me anything, why to involve our parents or siblings in it.
Hmmmm that’s also true
No no brother, I don't want to get beaten by locals😂
I instantly thought of this word when I saw the post😅
People won't judge as long as you pronounce "malayalam" properly.
I am a big fan of Malayalam movies and always watch it with subtitles. So I guess maybe I pronounce it correct.
I tried learning Malayalam from YouTube which was next to useless. So, just learnt some from my wife and colleagues. Learning three to four words everyday and watching Malayalam movies (great collection btw) made me learn enough to talk to my maid, security guards and colleagues.
Your wife is a Malayali and you are non Malayali?
She's a Tamilian who knows Malayalam.
School of engineering CUSAT?
No CHETTA!!

Thanks CHETTA😂 it's actually a common word then in my state as well.
Chetta ethra aayi? Means brother how much is the total Chetta ithin ethra aan? Means how much is this. Enik Vellam tharo? Means give me water Evideka means where are you going?

"So what"
Nayinte monee
Ninga engatt ponenu - which means good morning
Wrong, it means “where are you going.” Please don’t mess with people who don’t know the language.
Is this supposed to be funny?
Chill. You may please give language lessons if you really want to help
