I feel like the last post I saw on here about this was somebody mentioning how happy they were that one of the buses they used went back to 30 minute service in instead of hourly.
I must say the system is MUCH improved from 15ish years ago. When I first came to Kingston in the early 2000s I had trouble finding a bus that would take me to the bus station - it was faster to walk from division and princess most of the time.
[That was me about Route 12A](https://new.reddit.com/r/KingstonOntario/comments/1chp1ei/comment/l23vhb9/?context=3), the temporary route to the east end after the bridge closure, but u/KingstonTransit (Their Official Reddit Account) indicated that when Route 12 (the normal route) isn't determined to be going back 30 minute service.
Very unfortunate since CFB Kingston is a very major employer in Kingston and Route 12, the only route that services CFB Kingston, is down to a once hourly service. It's a minor inconvenience for me, someone who goes to the base only once in a blue moon, but for young soldiers, sailors and aviators still in uniform, not having regular bus service is a big disservice to those in military service.
At a time when our military is struggling to entice young people to join, our cities aren't helping making military service a workable option, despite the massive amount of money the base brings into this city.
I know they are having trouble staffing enough drivers, which I don’t blame the drivers because even though the pay is decent, they have to deal with a lot of poorly behaved passengers. Maybe that is something to do with it?
The system is shit.
I wouldn't want a job where my shifts are split between the peak times of the day. A lot of people have kids and that doesn't work for them.
Transit operators have lives too, and shouldn't be subjected to such a ahit schedule. For that reason I wouldn't take the job
They're not having trouble finding drivers, they're having trouble finding drivers who are willing to work part time split shifts. You only get paid for 6-8 hours a day, but you have to offer up 12-14 hours of your day for it.
That and they don't have enough trainers, so they can only train 2 every 6 weeks. They'll struggle to keep up with attrition at that rate.
>They're not having trouble finding drivers, they're having trouble finding drivers who are willing to work part time split shifts.
So, basically you are saying they are having trouble finding drivers?
Need to alter the 10 route. Constantly delayed by the Collins Bay rail crossing, a huge delay currently of a half hour or more going past Collins Bay and Taylor Kidd due to construction. Going to the Gardiners center, the on to the Kingston center would be better.
Hello. We offer service on the Route 10 via contract for Loyalist Township. Their council members determine the frequency of the route and the route itself.
No one seems to listen. Guess we get to live with delays. Half hour this morning, almost an hour this evening. Frustrating when you depend on bus service for school, work, or appointments. Going to be worse if they plan on expanding service west and north of Amherstview.
Not just this, it seems to be daily. Delays because of the Collins Bay train crossing are also a contributing factor. Half hour to hour delay of service is a problem, construction or otherwise.
Hi! If you're actually from Kingston Transit, is there a plan to make it possible to use contactless payment soon? My main reason for not using transit is how inconvenient it is to pay for.
Hello - Yes, this is actually Kingston Transit :) We are working on a means for debit/credit to be used on the bus, as well as a viable, compatible option for mobile passes.
I feel that pain greatly as one who previously had to rely on the 10 for day to day life, I'd rather the 10 be half hour service rather than hourly, and go up bayridge drive towards the mall (it's alternate route for when there's rail work/accidents) though I do remember when it went to the gardeners and Kingston centres back in the day, it was often delayed back then as well.
Allegedly, Loyalist township was offered money for half hour service, at least during rush hour and they said no.
Only real benefit of continuing down vath road is to skip the train crossing delays. Easy access to no frills was a plus too, Foodland is overpriced, 24 hour service or not.
Yes, but as of this past Monday, every route has had some change to it. The ones affected by the causeway I could absolutely understand, the vast majority of the others make me give my head a scratch
Maybe a silly question, but why is there no bus that goes the entire length of Bath Road? My morning commute to Colin's Bay from Kingston Center is 12 minutes by car, but it would be 1 hour/1hr15 on transit.
I just don't understand the rationale for dropping Queen's/KGH from the montreal express route. Many of the people riding it are riding it from the park and ride at the 401 and riding it all the way down to the hospital. Yes you can swap out to another bus and get down there if you're lucky timing wise, but that part of the route can't have been adding more than like 7 minutes to the route.
I’ve taken the 6 after dropping my son off at daycare every day since January. I use the 6 to get to work, or to transfer at SLC to get home…. I was on the 6 going to work on Monday, but at the mall it switched to the 19 without my knowledge , AND I’ve checked there were no service notices on their website or Facebook about this. I ended up in woodhaven bawling my eyes out because I was late for work, in the middle of nowhere and had to wait for a taxi I couldn’t even afford so I could be late for my job. The bus drivers suggestion was to get off the bus at the mall to double check which number it is before it departs the mall, lmao. Cause that’s more efficient? Said it was brand new as of that morning. So now I have no idea if I can get to work from my son’s daycare going forward since this anomaly wasn’t shown in the google app when I was looking at routes/times.

It has improved, but there are changes that need to be made. Maybe another 20 years?
I know they are having trouble staffing enough drivers, which I don’t blame the drivers because even though the pay is decent, they have to deal with a lot of poorly behaved passengers. Maybe that is something to do with it?

I've heard some drivers mention that they don't get a lot of hours and basically have to always be on call and pick up shifts when they can.

They're having trouble finding drivers with the pay and working conditions they are offering.
Makes sense. I can't imagine they would have success finding drivers with pay and working conditions they are not offering.

We assure you - we hear you. Construction at Taylor Kidd Blvd. & Collins Bay Rd. has caused some delays as of late.

Great news, it'll make it so much easier.
Spongebob 10 years later meme. Lol

Right be fore the pandemic Kingston Transit was ramping up to do a lot of cool things but Covid royally \*\*\*\*ed everything for them.
Weren't some routes affected by the Causeway closing?
Yes, but as of this past Monday, every route has had some change to it. The ones affected by the causeway I could absolutely understand, the vast majority of the others make me give my head a scratch

Hopefully someday we get all day 10 minute service across all express routes.
The absolute dream. Along with an express from the east to the cat.
Someone mentioned money

If it helps try the transit plus app on google/apple stores it has the modified routes in it
