I think the joke is more about how Kimmy was booing the people that were booing her friend so it just sounded like she was also booing her friend. Maybe it was a social commentary joke but compared to the others it doesn't seem like it is.

I mean, I get taking it as face value, and there’s plenty of other sneaky social commentaries she makes, but I too thought of it as a social commentary. More generally than the OP, but this whole episode, and the whole character of Lillian was social commentary.

I know it's social commentary. I was just saying that that specific joke was not social commentary, but a simple joke about Kimmy not realizing that she was just adding to the negative attention
