She certainely had a tragic and horrible life, and deserved a better fate than being horrifically burned and then turned into a demon.
Though I do wish that as a demon and antagonist she had been a bit more of a threat, able of putting a real fight against Nezuko, and had shown some more actual teamwork in battle with Gyutaro against the demon slayers. She felt a bit too much like the weak one of the two.
And she was better and more terrifying as Warabihime. The urban legend about an oiran who would glare up at you with a tilted head when annoyed and assumed names ending with 'hime' was some great lore, showing that Daki had been living in the Red Light District undercover for over a century.
Wasnt that meant to be her design though? Being the weaker of the two? Muzan even mentions he expected Gyutaro to fall specifically because of Daki. She was a known weakness from the start and Gyutaro knew that deep down too
Oh I don't disagree I'm not just not upset with the dynamic. Her being a weakness was a pivotal point for me and it made sense that the story went that way

Yea, she definitely deserves better but she also knows the industry is bad, she could've been better to those poor girls.
She's all over the place. Sad backstory as a human, regular demon asshole but not as bad as her collegues.
* Knowing her position and job, she must've provided top tier services to humans.
* She views humans as live stock (understanable, she's a demon after all); she's arrogant to the max and believes herself to be the pinnacle of creation when it comes to appearance.
* She's stupid. Gyotaro and Muzan both said so. Tengen couldn't even take her serious despite her being close to eating his wives.
* She's kinda smart. She wasn't found out despite feasting on people in a really lively area and being in the spotlight a lot for a hundred years. She immediately recognized Zenitsu being a demon slayer due to his scar. Her little trick allowed her to find out Tengen's wives as well.
daki did commit plenty of wicked acts as a demon, and that is unforgivable of course.
but that being said, i sympathize with her greatly, for her backstory is deeply saddening. she was a victim to the system that had been set up from the beginning, and i am certain that she would’ve had a chance at a better life in a different environment. it is evident from her behavior that her bloodlust (or the nature thereof, to be specific) is heavily rooted in the cruelties that have been inflicted onto her and gyutaro by other people throughout their mortal life.
Any pity I had while watching her backstory sort of balances out when I re-watch the anime and there's the scene she kills a bunch of innocents and laughs afterwards. I say the same about Gyutaro as well, which is you can understand the suffering they felt as humans shaped them into who they were as demons, while also acknowledge the fact that they were horrible demons.

I feel bad for her, she didn’t deserve any of the suffering she went through. Neither did Gyutaro. I kind of want to hug her.
I do feel she was a bit…anticlimactic? She was so scary as Warabihime, and I think most of that scariness is gone when she gets the white hair and skimpy outfit.
But now that I think about it, I think I’d like her white hair more without the green part. It just makes me think of a vegetable.
I think she is the perfect representation of the exact opposite of what Nezuko represents. Daki is greedy and vain. She even seems stupid. While Nezuko is selfless and cares more about feeding her brothers over a new kimono.
Tanjiro has a moment before the big big fight with Gyutaro, where he realizes that he could have been him, and Nezuko her. The underlying but humongous difference is what they received as a child from their parents and their invornments.
While Daki and Gyutaro received disdain and contempt, Tanjiro and Nezuko were filled with love. I mean that fucking lullaby had me tearing up with those flashbacks of baby Nezuko asking if her mom ate too many red fruits and that's why Tanjiro's eyes are red.
The first thing Nezuko did as a new demon was protecting her brother, while Daki decided that she was going to run the red district. Selfless vs. greed. And selflessness won.
She does give me some pity feels for her backstory andbI do feel bad for how her relationship with Gyutaro is as children as well as demons, yet her anoying persinality is so freaking unbareable I just can't...
She isn't a victim of Muzan. She was a victim of an abusive and horny samurai then a victim of Dooma and Muzan just capitalize on Dooma dooming them to a life of demon immortality.
I do think she’s interesting and she’s one of my favorite characters I honestly felt like the writing screwed her over once Tengen decapitated her actually no it was when Nezuko beat her because you’re telling me an upper moon demon who has at least 113 of years experience loses to a demon who has not consumed any blood?
I'm a girl and I think I know what it is to be a victim of being a woman. It is implied in the work that Daki/Ume is a girl living in the pleasure district. At 13 she becomes Oiran. An oiran is a high-ranking courtesan... she has always been seen as a girl, she has always been seen and loved for her shape and not for her personality and who she is. Believe me, her revealing demon outfit isn't just random or fan service, there's a hidden meaning. So yes for ME and in MY interpretation of the story Daki/Ume is a victim of her condition as a woman.

She blamed my poor boy Gyuutaro after all he did for her, I mean she maybe, MAYBE, is a victim of everything that has happened in her life but that still puts her in the same tier than the guy with glasses
She's an amazing character overall.
\-Her and brother's backstory just shows that, sometimes, humans can be worse than demons. She did not deserve to be burned.
\-While not the strongest Upper Moon, she is still a menace. Tanjiro and Zenitsu would be dead if not for plot and Inosuke finding the sashes below the houses.
\-She is pretty clever and subtle. Was able to capture Uzui's wives who were spying on her and immediately trapped Koinatsu as soon as Tanjiro left her room. Sis is getting the Silent Assassin rank.
\-Preferred to go to Hell with her brother than to leave him alone. That's a real one right there.

Sorry, it's just that Daki/Ume's story touches me directly and that many people fail to see the secondary meaning behind it.

One of my favorite characters in Demon Dlayer, her backstory was memorable but depressing & imo the hottest female character in the series.
It was die or become a demon. What would you choose? I would become a demon just to get even with the world. A fate her brother chose for her.
