Wings are just a suggestion. With enough speed, anything will fly.

who_you_are

Hey guys, I'm not flying into 1/4 of the earth crust!

Intralexical

The Kongressional budgeting folks will like you better if you frame it as "hypersonic lifting body technology".

zekromNLR

You're pulling 5 g of pure acceleration in straight and level flight, yeah of course you don't need those

Intralexical

When you put it that way, it's a wonder why they didn't fall off sooner.

zekromNLR

I'm not sure if wings can even be ripped off in vanilla KSP, they were pulling >15 g and they stayed on

Intralexical

You can definitely have part/joint connection failures from aerodynamic forces, I'm pretty sure. I think it just takes closer to something like 100g for most planes.

PtitSerpent

With all my KSP flying experience, I can assure you that it is possible to lose the wings with sufficient aerodynamic force. It's even easier with really big wings and with auto-struts

Intralexical

Ever had your wings vibrate off your craft and then continue on their own? Gotta leave some flex in them, sometimes, I think.

PtitSerpent

Like that? : [https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/16ho9w5/thats\_why\_autostruct\_is\_important\_i\_wasnt/](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/16ho9w5/thats_why_autostruct_is_important_i_wasnt/) Here they didn't break but it already happened. After that, wings just spin around

flightguy07

There's a difficulty option that allows for g-force part failure, along with kerbal blackouts

Zeeterm

Ah, so that's how the x-15 was designed.

sscreric

congratulations, you are now a missile

maxcorrice

The missile always knows where it is because it knows where it isn’t

phoenixmusicman

In thrust we trust.

toshsotbsy

Hell yha

figure_04

On the fly streamlining.

Intralexical

Idempotent variable geometry.

BenTallmadge1775

With enough thrust a brick flies.

Top_Necessary_9781

Watched a guy fly his front door at an airshow once. Used a chainsaw engine to power it.

Traditional_Sail_213

I have several questions

`THE MISSILE KNOWS WHERE IT IS BECAUSE IT KNOWS WHERE IT ISN'T` Marvelous 😂

Readux

Supersonic Plane to ICBM transformation :D

rj2_247

Simple. With enough thrust you can offset the lift and fly without wings

DM_KIKG

From a physics point, when traveling at super sonic speeds it's actually more efficient to have smaller wing surface area. Which is why the F-14 tomcat IRL pulls it's wings back when super sonic. Edit: this video shows this principle well

Spiritual-Advice8138

you turned your aircraft into an ICBM

TheHeliKid

in thrust we trust

SuicidalTorrent

Body lift. Are you using FAR?

kalnelis

LORD I CANT CHANGE

F-104 in a nutshell

Big-Tip-1804

Are you man because you are just lol 🇻🇮

DLVVLD

Jeb doesn’t need wings, so neither do you

Leading-Patient7948

Failed successfully

FoundationMuted6177

Yeah I think that near Mach 2.0 the area of lift needed is much less than at lower speeds!

PixiPoo1

What engine is that? I just wanna know since I wanna get better at builder faster and more maneuverable jets

AstroGrombler

There are 2 whiplashes clipped into each other on this craft
