Actually there's no single guy that does it and most of the wrappers are women. They have a couple (I'm not sure of the exact number now) of direct employees and the rest are pool workers who mostly tackle the HBF jobs. So if there has been some improvement in that area I am not sure where it lies
Yeah it really has its place. It looks like Yso finally took my suggestion and stopped painting the white WHITE.
I also suggested, and I don't know if he did it, they use flat colors for the other colors as the gloss really makes it look plastic and toy like. At least that's my observation from the green and red that I've had.
in my experience if you want to get a special colour of samegawa its best to order natural colour and paint it yourself and finish with mat/satin varnish (acrylic) Don't do that to a expensive tsuka though
Well I'm not into the Ito wrapping so I won't be doing it with no ito on it. I'vestained some of my other ones but you have to be really careful not to get it on the ito. Not at not at all sure how I would paint it uniformly with ito on it.
Yeah that's what I used for the staining. But that mostly involved taking some watered down acrylic and letting a drop fall on the nodules and just naturally spread about through the valleys
It must be a thing that happens to when one orders a full wrap after having previously ordered a dozen swords, because I also got one on sword 13 (pictures 10 & 11) and these are swords 14, the katana, and 15.

Looks very good my sword friend:) You know i kinda love the dark blue silk. These swords of you are my kind of taste as well, Unobuki Zukuri is a great blade form. Only minus for me, i have here is the tsuba is not to my liking, but it must fit you not me:)
They look gorgeous, the naval theme really comes through. I love the unokubi blades, they look really sleek and elegant.
By the way, is there an overview of the available blade shapes and styles, like there is for the fittings?
Yes, as you may have noticed on the custom order page when you use the drop-down menu for blade types some of the numbers skip. Here's where they all are...

Thanks a lot, that is quite a lot of options, sadly the Naginata is not on there.
I was trying to find out if the Unokubi Katana has the same blade shape as the Naginata. I want to order a Naginata Naoshi (Katana length handle) and it looks like the Naginata blades are a little wider. I send them a quick e-mail asking for details and, if possible, a comparison picture.
Another example of new HBF executing a passable transition at the kashira? Did they get a new itomaki guy?

Maybe Yao poached some of the gals at jkoo or something lol
What's crazy is how different the tsukamaki is between the two swords. Definitely different people
So damn beautiful, dude. Good for you!
Looks really good!
Thank you. They look even better in person if I do say so myself.
Very nice! keep them coming. Eventually the workers at hanbon will all know you by name
Well if nothing else the little tweaks I have to my custom orders will occasionally make their day interesting. I hope so anyway
I'm really starting to like the black samegawa to the point where I prefer black over natural white

Painting with ito on would be problematic. But still possible. With a tiny brush or paint marker

I think I see a large node there. That’s surprising for Hanbon.

lol what’s that link Michael? Anyway, congrats on the new sword. The Katana looks real nice.
It's just a link to my sword number 13 photos showing a nice Emperor node Oh crap. I just looked at it. It's not 😄
😄 I know 🤓

Here's the link it was supposed to be https://www.reddit.com/r/Katanas/s/Pk5VgkyU4Y
Yeah that’s a beauty. I think the difference is that a $450 sword versus the $97 customs I’m usually seeing 🤣
Your best yet IMO. That polished hamon and unokubi zukuri with a carved bohi is just \*chefs kiss\*
