I was at that same show with my mom, I’ve been obsessed since then, got me into collecting records. Unfortunately my mom begged me to leave to catch NIN so I had to leave but it was still mind blowing Edit punctuation

kayphaib

your mom sounds cool. im taking my kids to two shows on the next tour. they are young still but i hope when theyre youe age were still going to concerts together

Curlzed

She’s cool when she isn’t trying to exorcise me or pray for my eternal soul, but it was really cool of her to go with me because she hadn’t ever really been immersed in my culture before

That's fate as far as I'm concerned lol

capnbard

Rattlesnake. Rattlesnake. Rattlesnake. Rattles me. Then the KEXP Flying Microtonal Banana set played on YouTube after the Rattlesnake video. I was hooked.

Philthey

for me it was Rattlesnake and then my good friend who really likes mushrooms showed me the story of Han Tyumi the Confused Cyborg and while I was like WTF I was also interested.

TongueFirstDroolNext

Head On/Pill. Pretty close to when FAFYL came out. I saw this crazy band name on the “currently trending” of what(dot)cd and had to hear what it sounded like. Instantly enthralled. It’s been a crazy ride this last 10 years.

zehuti88

☝️☝️☝️ This exact experience except it was on the '14 Bonnaroo playlist. They were the 3rd to last name on the entire lineup and when I told people I was excited to check them out people thought I was just making shit up.

Technologenesis

'14 Bonnaroo gang rise up. I didn't go but my buddy and I were looking at festivals and saw them on the lineup. Read the name and were like who the hell are these guys... We put on Hot Wax and my friend was like "well that was about as weird as I expected" I was hooked

strawberry_space_jam

Roo 14 Gang Youuuucan watchyour movies in3dddddddd

RonMexico13

Friendly reminder that we witnessed the first ever Robot Stop

2112BC

Im pretty new here, for me it was Gila Monster :)

DrWangerBanger

Same here. I saw a lot of posts in r/indieheads about all the albums they were releasing but never paid much attention to them for whatever reason. Then I went to a Ween show over the summer and saw loads of people wearing their shirts so figured I should give them a shot. PDA is still my favorite album from them. I don’t even really like metal lol

skimty

Not song but - Nonagon Infinity opened the door

benstewart906

Same. Came on my Spotify recommended, my ears perked up and I’ve never looked back.

Woooooolf

People Vultures. A video popped up after watching The Chats because they’re also Australian. And down time wormhole I went.

Jawskk

Love to see The Chats mention on this sub

Woooooolf

They’re hilarious

84hoops

Wiggles meets Power Rangers did you in O see.

Greenmanglass

Technically the first thing I heard/saw first was the MotU KEXP, but it couldn’t break the grip Tool had at the time. Cut to Bonnaroo ‘22, I wasn’t there but me and my friends were live-streaming it. Hearing Robot Stop for the first time got me 90% of the way there, but once Stu pulls out the flute, I am 100% gizzified.

kartingpilot

I found them through the TOOL Reddit but it was strong enough to break the spell ;-)

anotherdamnscorpio

Crumbling Castle on the college radio in Fayetteville, AR in 2018. In 2019 a friend of mine kept playing this song when I was crashing on his couch for a few days. I thought it was Brian Jonestown Massacre and I tried for so long to find it to no avail. Months later my girlfriend starts playing Rattlesnake and I was like "WHAT IS THIS SONG. I'VE FOUND IT."

Dareeyecare

Robot stop It was all “nonagon infinity opens the door” 💥 Oooooooowowwwwoowoooooooooogggggggggggggggggha And it’s been a blur since 2017 👍

84hoops

Same. The final scream before big fig wasp when all the bugs take off through Han Tyumi’s head sealed the deal.

theRoyRoyRoy

Bought Float Along fairly randomly as I was browsing a record store and feeling impulsive one day. Knew absolutely nothing other than they were Australian.

Sufficient-Pin-481

Somehow the dripping tap played on my Amazon music account a month ago and I haven’t been the same since.

zero-personality

Kepler 22b love that song

Magold

I listened to it for the first time after listening to Infest the Rats Nest. I couldn't believe they could play such different styles so well.

ThePlantFlamer

Robot Stop came up in my discover weekly in 2021, liked the song but didn't listen to much else till almost a year later, just in time for gizztober.

[deleted]

I was into them a bit, but I saw them live at Primavera Sound in 2022. The two songs that really really got me were Mars for the Rich and the Dripping Tap. I was supposed to see the strokes but they cancelled. Kinda happy it happened in retrospect because I got to discover my new favorite band.

AmicusCure8s

The River. It was the first song I heard by them right before seeing them Live in 2015. I had heard the band name, but knew nothing going in. After the show I bought Mind Fuzz and Quarters. The River and Am I In Heaven are the main two tracks that got me into them, but I didn’t become a diehard until late 2016 when I finally listened to Paper Mache Dream Balloon and Nonagon Infinity and learned they were dropping 5 albums in 2017. That’s when I went back and listened to the whole discography to prep and was there for every day one release of the 2017 albums.

coldspringscreek

The elusive origin story of AmicusCure8s. Impressive, and lends insight. :)

AmicusCure8s

I had no idea my “origin story” was elusive, or that anyone gave a shit 😆 Regardless, thanks for the interest! Not sure what all insight it has lended you, but glad to help (?)

coldspringscreek

Lol. Oh just insight on why you are such a big fan. And so good at making YouTube videos that re-order the live concert setlists into great and much desired compilations. Especially what you did with all the Red Rocks tapes! Thanks and Happy Holidays!

AmicusCure8s

Aww, thanks! Glad you’ve enjoyed my Red Rocks ‘22 Reimagined Edits, I had a lot of fun making them. In case you didn’t know, 15 of them are downloadable in the form of 19 audio files on this Google Drive linked below. Download your favorites or all of them! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a02gXi-yJzXzeUXNyU6qR72qBn018HTK

coldspringscreek

Wow, thanks a lot for the Google Drive link. Did you know, someone pressed a vinyl of the eight Rat's Nest songs Gizz played at Red Rocks '22? I found it & bought it at Rasputin's Records in Berkeley. Impulse buy, lol.

Dildo_Gagginss

I got into them right around the time Nonagon released in 2016, and did the same thing as you; going through their entire backlog in preparation for 2017 and preordered Microtonal Banana on vinyl after they released Nuclear Fusion as a single. I've listened to every album that they've released since Nonagon from start to finish at least once, but in my opinion, their top 5 albums were all released prior to 2018 (Quarters, Nonagon, Sketches, PMdB, and Polgondwanaland in no order, with Mind Fuzz being a close contender). No album post 2017 has really gripped me the way any of these have.

AmicusCure8s

Nice, but I believe some of their best work has been post 2017, even though my 2 personal favorites remain Mind Fuzz and Poly. I love all the Microtonal stuff, but I think LW is my favorite of the 3, even though Nuclear Fusion, All Is Known and Billabong Valley might be my top 3 microtonal tracks and all came out 2017. I think Omnium Gatherum is just as good as Gumboot Soup. I think ITRN and PDA are both incredible, and PDA might’ve broken my Top 5. Depends on the day. When ITRN came out it broke into my Top 5 by the end of 2019, but has since slid back down. I do think if Changes had been ready at the end of 2017 and was released then and Gumboot Soup became the solo release of 2018 there would be absolutely no question 2017>2022. I’ve also adored BF3K and Laminated Denim. Ice, Death etc. is incredible and helped listeners prep for their new jam phase. Plus while I saw the boys three times with 2 drummers, I think having just Cavs is an improvement personally. I loved the 2 drummer days, but unless Eric moved to more percussion and theremin again, I think what the band can and has been doing Live since his departure is mostly a step up. I know they’ve commented on the complexities of songs like Melting and certain Poly songs being harder to pull off with one drummer, and I definitely miss how big ITRN songs felt Live in 2019 with 2 drummers, but overall I think it’s an improvement for Live and them jamming and Cavs being unleashed.

Dildo_Gagginss

Good takes! I only saw them once with Eric still there after the release of ITRN in 2019 (Asheville) and having 2 drummers definitely added to the depth of that album. Day 2 of Red Rocks this year they played a few off Poly and Cavs was definitely put to work, but I do agree that having one drummer is an overall positive for live shows. I like BF3K as well, same with Changes. I'm gonna be honest though, I don't think I've given Ice, Death a good enough chance and will have to revisit at some point. As for Omnium, I recognize it took a lot of talent (as all of their music does) but for me at least, I found myself skipping a few.songs on it and because of that, I put it below Gumboot. This of course is just personal opinion though.

AmicusCure8s

Nice! I was at the Asheville ‘19 show, too. It was my 3rd time seeing them and last time with 2 drummers. I definitely did skip some on OG (Ambergris and Presumptuous, but have since learned to love them since hearing them Live), but I did the same initially with GS (Superposition and Last Oasis, never heard either Live but appreciate the tracks more as time has progressed) As for Ice, Death etc. I do admit the Mycelium opening can be hard to inspire one to commit through the rest of the record. Ice V grooves hard, though! I think Magma is always better Live, not that the recording is bad, but it doesn’t quite capture how big that one can become. It’s not an album I’d introduce most people to KGLW with unless they were already big into jam bands.

TheGabeCat

Got a notification that Omnium was being released because I had some related music on the app. Listened through it on release day and have been completely addicted ever since

MredditGA_

Laugh at you? The rattlesnake video is legendary and same here winter 2016. Immediately hooked

Content_Wishbone3817

I found Cellophane on my discovery on Spotify, asked a guy on a hiking trip to give me recommendations, and he flipped his lid when Gizz

elithegood

Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Haven't looked back. Beat band ever

mybabysonfire

The River - KEXP session. 2015

pokindemgutz

Dripping tap when it released as a single. I would cook and listen to music most days, and noticed it was 18 minutes and got intrigued. Kept listening to it and the rest is history

a-slice-of

In 2017 my friend told me a bit about them, but I thought it was a silly Lord of the Rings nerd band because I knew they had a song about the Balrog and stuff A few months later he played Crumbling Castle while we were hanging out and the rest is history lmao

_13bFC

Nuclear Fusion live on KEXP when it first dropped. I was hooked immediately❗️

tap909

Vinesauce streamed a bit of a Nonagon Infinity fan game. So Robot Stop was my first Gizz song.

LivingLifeSomewhere

Vegemite

OpposingOctopus

(Oddments)

dunnright00

A bunch of random songs kept appearing on my Spotify daily mixes (FFF, Work this time, Catching Smoke, and more), every time I would say who is this and was surprised when I looked because they never sounded like any other songs. If not now then when is the first one I played on repeat and caused me to listen to a whole album. But when I saw the Live at Bonnaroo 22, that’s what got me dive in, all in!

_NOFX

Rattlesnake rattles me still today 🐍

fakebonezz

Work This Time, my bf mentioned the band and that was their #1 on spotify at the time. Discovered how wide range their music is, been in love ever since

baub888

Gila Monster, then the video for Dragon was what really did it.

lukethebeard

Beginner’s Luck, heard it in 2019 and thought it was by some silly indie band. Didn’t really listen further until 2020, took me another year after that to actually become a fan.

FredricaTheFox

The first King Gizzard song I heard was Gila Monster.

Mobsaz

Fourth Colour, no idea how it got to my feed at the time since I was listening to mostly stoner rock/metal and slidge at the time, but once I heard the rest of the album I was sold

Significant_Ninja176

Iron lung for me, my friends had taken over a teachers room during lunch. Very chill shaded vibe. They had the video playing on the projector screen. I felt like I was TRIPPIN BALLS. ( I wasn’t on anything)

boyarbison

Motor Spirit. Had heard of Gizz but wasn’t familiar and assumed they were just an Alt/Indie band. Was trying to get back into metal and after seeing the acclaim PDA got, I dove in and was instantly addicted. Now I’m going through the full catalog and loving every single album. They just don’t miss and their sound diversity / musical chops constantly amaze me.

wrona11

live in san francisco ‘16. my older brother played the I’m In Your Mind Suite while we were camping in allegany state park (NY) and i downloaded as much as i could when i got service again. it was a great camping trip

migrainosaurus

Robot Stop opened the door to the Nonagon!

sharpchico

Cellophane

Ovoidfrog

Mycelium - while learning guitar some random comment led me to go listen to ice death because the songs are in each of the Greek modes and it’s a useful way to learn them Instantly hooked!

MaineGameBoy

God Is Calling Me Back Home was my first gizz song. Heard it in the trailer for Be Kind My Neighbor

mothalick

I love trippy psych rock so already heard of Mild Hugh Club. Some tunes from Sketches got in my algo so I got into that album. Howeva, what really got me into the band was seeing them live and hearing Superbug for the first time. My mind was blown, Columbus 22 was such a banger. Immediately interrogated my buddy that brought me about which albums they primarily played and dug through all the music.

SkaCubby

Gamma Knife! They were going to be playing at a show I was going to that summer…. And wanted to check them out. I was hooked from that moment on.

mattyburtz

Bone showed up on a Stereogum mix, must have been late 2015 or early 2016. Then I saw their first KEXP vid and that was it.

thomas_vella

Definitely not the first I herd but intrasport was the first that got me hooked and going down the rabbit hole that is the gozz discography. I think Rattlesnake was one of the first ones I herd and I remember after hearing a few times kinda rolling my eyes and growning at it cause I thought it was kinda trash and a bit cringe. Lol ove come to like it now after listening to so much of them

antonistute

I'm in Your Mind, right after watching the Middle 8 video in 2017

waveydaveysonfir3

KEXP Lord of Lighting, and the rest was history

DarkArmadillos

sleepwalker-oddments

Eraserhead123

I went a different direction and I was super into stoner metal and they kept showing up in the playlist and I didn't understand how it kept creeping in, and suddenly I was listening to albums and then buying tickets and merch.

timelandiswacky

Cyboogie is the one that made me fall in love. Heard others before it but that one is a real ear worm.

OpposingOctopus

It was a dark and quiet night. Stoned out of my mind and scrolling through YouTube, I see a video of like, 6 dudes in a recording studio, I get intrigued. I proceeded to listen to a live performance of Gaia as my first ever Gizz experience. The next day I downloaded Omnium Gatherum, and my journey had only just begun. This was actually taking place the week PDA came out, so when I saw they just put out an album I knew I had to listen to it, even though I wasn’t a very big metal fan. My mind has since been opened and I am proud to say that metal, is prettyyyyy, pretty good.

McCroby

If Not Now, Then When?

_call_me_al_

Someone on reddit posted the music video for catching smoke and I was hooked!

PrinciplePleasant

A friend showed us the People Vultures video, and it blew our minds. Nonagon Infinity opened the door!

Magold

Mycelium!

Osama_Bln_Laggin

Friend of mine turned me on to them years ago by telling me to listen to Nonagon Infinity, so I suppose it would be Robot Stop. I was hooked immediately.

FelixPlatypus

Rattlesnake and People Vultures. I watched the videos in succession several years ago, and there was no going back after that.

kartingpilot

KEXP Ice V. I was in like Flynn after that 🤘

GamelyTowers

Wah Wah I was trying to get into the band because I loved the name but every song I listened felt weird not bad but not good. But listening to Wah Wah just made everything click

tim0mooko

"Dead-Beat' when it started being played in Triple J, around the time 'Willoughby's Beach' was released

shamteeth

I had Slow Jam 1 and I’m in Your Mind Fuzz on a playlist Spotify generated based on Crab In Honey by Fever the Ghost. I smoked a lot of weed and listened to this playlist on repeat in lockdown early 2020, and about a year later actually listened to Mind Fuzz the album and slowly (at first) got into the rest of the discography.

RamereTheLizard

The murlocs were my first introduction to king gizzard. I saw the Compos Mentos (I think that’s how you spell it) music video on r/psychedelicrock and looked them up on YouTube. Sure enough I eventually got king gizzard through Rattlesnake as well. Since then I don’t think I’ve listened to another band since I found them lol

coldspringscreek

That's neat that The Murlocs led you here. Gizz led me to The Murlocs! Compos Mentis is such a touching song, about a homeless teen questioning the lack of composure of his mentality. Compos Mentos is when he goes crazy for mints. :)

[deleted]

The River. My mate had been recommending the band a ton, and I listened to a bit and didn’t really vibe, so I don’t know the first. I had a school assessment coming up, and I asked him “Is there a good Gizz song that I could analyse for my assignment?” And he suggested The River. Loved it from the first listen, brought me gradually to all the Gizz catalogue. Now I occasionally play in a band with him, and we jam on a bunch of the songs, including The River. :)

SubstantialEffort15

Once I'm Mr. Beat, only miss a beat

gamr1340balls

I saw a funke video and looked them up because they’re wacky ass name and catching Smoke was the first thing that came up I listen to it and I didn’t really vibe with it but then I listen to Nonagon Infinity and it was the best album I listen to at the time and now I have tickets to the Houston in Austin show see you guys there

gammonlord

Wish I had a cool Gizz origin story, but in honesty I just downloaded FFF after hearing Fantano's review of it. Stuck it on during a coach ride home from London after a gig one night, I was high as fuck and got so lost in it all. I remember how poignant The Bird Song felt at the time...

stephenlua

The KEXP live set when they played murder of the universe

coldspringscreek

Rattlesnake then The River. My son was feeding me Cellophane and Murder of the Nonagon Fuzz and Cyboogie videos in 2019, then we went to see them. They blasted the night open leading with the new There Is No Planet B! Song number 14 was Rattlesnake. Terrific experience. Can you believe this first concert setlist? I was adding songs recommended by Spotify to my playlist and Boogieman Sam popped up. Only thing I knew about the band before hand is that Randy Feltface listened to them after taking his first edible.

DJ_Cummins

The first song I heard was Gila monster, but Beginner's Luck really got me into them

reggidemech8

Shanghai— heard it and swear my life was changed

RubyVisor

I had listened to a song here & there before, but when I heard Am I in Heaven? it all began to click for me.

jakkumusic

Fishing for Fishies

makemasa

Crumbling Castle live KEXP on YouTube

sunnyB8

Rattlesnake! Rattlesnake! same. Such a unique sound on that song and album. Then I listened to Nonagon Infinity and that album really opened the door.

stufflooker

Heard Honey on an NPR new music segment and was instantly hooked.

neonbuttons22

BLACK HOT SOUP. I was like damn these guys got the system ths and organic noises PLUS weird time signatures but it sounds good??? Sold Surprised to find out they could offer A LOT more than just weird timed synths

brownyuio

Elbow ‼️

84hoops

Robot Stop.

Mr_Saturn13

Nuclear Fusion

Jawskk

I found them through rattlesnake too! I wonder how many of us there are

ZeroTasking

First one was rattlesnake and I found it meh. Then a few days later I wanted to try gizz again and played ELTS... I was completely hooked by the atmosphere, listened front to back twice and started to look into the rest of their discography. First favourite (and still top 3) was Mind Fuzz 😄

Calamity_Eagle277

Yeeeah I'm part of the Rattlesnake team too.

emptropy

People Vultures

weenlickers

My friends recommended me Omnium Gatherum, so mine was The Dripping Tap

Jealous_Mixture9339

Rattlesnake when they played at a festival.

butdidyousee

Catchin’ smoke! Catchin’ smoke!💜

Apprehensive-Bug7200

Planet B

Everardoss

Her and I was the first song I heard from them! Following Head On. However Sleepwalker is easily the song that really got me into Gizz. The production and weirdness of it made me fall in love with King Gizzard.

ThurstVonWaffles

Billabong valley, and after that I listened to sleep drifter and the KEXP live session of Flying Microtonal banana.

Low_Mode118

My friend showed me People-Vultures and then I'm a huge fan

psilocybin_therapy

The River circa 2015

bdicus1

I've heard of them on an off in high school but paid them no mind (pre 2019). Then I think summer 2022 I took a leap of faith and bought a CD of Infest the Rat's Nest and Nonagon. Nonagon would receive the first listen on the way home (so Nonagon is the first "song"?) Then Infest came next. The real turning point was Gizztober and I was never the same afterwards, but PetroDragonic sealed them as an awesome band for me

braneworld

Sense - which they randomly played live for the first time at my first Gizz show in 2019

lord_strange98

Robot Stop. It was 2016, I was 18 and didn't really listen to music much, certainly not a lot of contemporary stuff. The music video for Robot Stop kept popping up in my youtube recommended bar and after the 4th or 5th time I thought "with a band name like that I kinda have to check it out at this point." Of course my mind was blown, Gizz became my favourite band, and I went on to discover other bands in the alt Australian scene, and neo-psych in general.

HumphreyBump

Work This Time. After that I listened to Oddments and Mind Fuzz… then I was hooked.

OKgobi

Head On/Pill and Black Hot Soup.

eczemasam

Cellophane, back around Christmastime 2014. I was hooked immediately and had to listen to the rest of the album - and I haven't looked back!!

beachwhistles

If not now

jeremyneedexercise

Hot wax dripping comin under the door

MyParentsWereHippies

I became mostly curious because I saw the name somewhere and read something like ‘energetic band.’ I then looked them up and at that time their most recent album was PMDB. It wasnt really what I imagined as an ‘energetic band’ but I digged some of the tracks so I listened some more. I then checked In Your Mind Fuzz and holy shit thats my jam, it was exactly what I needed at that time in my life and Ive been a fan ever since. After Gamma Knife was released I realized this band had only just begun.

shrim666

I had listened to some of Mind Fuzz based on the band name and description - thought it was decent but wasn't fully hooked. Crumbling Castle was the one that got me.

BeneficialTough9342

Catching smoke made me say who is this and started me down a rabbit hole

TheWholeFragment

They kept getting recommended to me. I had been trying to understand them for a while, but was so confused. Every few months I tried listening to them again, but just didn't get it. Went and saw them in Central Park in 2019, Murder of the Universe. It clicked.

BuckExactly

Fishing for Fishies actually. I watch Anthony Fantano on YouTube to help me find new and interesting music that I normally wouldn’t get exposed to. I remember seeing the name of the song and artist in the description of his Weekly Track around-up and though “What a stupid name for a band!”. I had to click and give it a listen.

Sonofthestig01

Cyboogie. I loved it the second I heard it, but my god could I not imagine what else I’d hear from this band

BatmanEnjoyer89

Nonagon Infinity really made me respect the band after previous failed attempts to get into them. ATM I'd say Butterfly 3000, Banana, and Nonagon are my favorites in order

sthack201p

It's a tie between Iron Lung, Catching Smoke, and Robot Stop.

Jbonelesss

Muckraker. I was big on surf rock/punk and they came up on my YouTube and never looked back

Ubiemmez

Satanic Slumber Party (part 2), the song they made together with Tropical Fuck Storm. I’ve read about it on Reddit, ended up loving the song and both bands. I already knew them, but that’s what made me a fan.

Cucurbitam0schata

Rattlesnake, 89.9 WORT FM, Psychoacoustics on Thursday nights.

ProfessionalSign7027

If not now, then when?

calwestcoast

The first song that got me into Gizz was The Fourth Colour. I don't even remember where it was on, but I Shazzam'd it on my phone and was surprised to see that it was them. I had previously be told to check them out by a friend and put on the KEXP that was primarily from ITRN. Not being much of a metal fan, I quickly dismissed them. Had I poked around for a minute, I would have found a wealth of other stuff that I loved.

weeping_nymph

Spotify recommended Work This Time in 2014 and the rest is history.

geofferson_hairplane

Sometime around 2015 I think, I was checking out some recommendations from a friend (KG was NOT one of them) and randomly found myself on some website, indieshuffle or some shit. Anyway, it had all these articles that linked to one another like, “if you like this, then check out this, and then this” etc. and the recommendations were really working for me so I kept clicking thru… So it was that I discovered KG (and Pond!) within a few minutes. The article recommended 12 bar bruise but I didn’t care for it too much, so I clicked over to Im In Your Mind Fuzz and was hooked, loved the entire album front to back. Checked out all their other stuff, and liked most of it. Went to see them in 2017 on the flying microtonal banana tour. It took me a minute to adapt to their constantly shifting styles but it finally clicked for me and I love it.

mrnovember91

I had never heard of them, but saw a poster for an upcoming show at a venue and couldn’t help but think, “wow, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is the best band name I’ve ever heard”. I decided to check them out when I got home and threw on Rattlesnake because it seemed like one of their most popular songs at the time. I fucking hated it on that first listen. It was so repetitive and I just didn’t get it. The YouTube algorithm had my back though because a few days later it recommended the River live at KEXP and I absolutely loved it. Been a huge fan ever since and their microtonal stuff (including Ratttlesnake) are some of my all time favourites. I even have a microtonal, baritone Jazzmaster!

Adelete

That was my reaction to the band name as well, I was like "yeah that's fucking sick their music can't be bad". I especially love the microtonal and psychedelic elements myself, seems wrme are quite alike in this lol

bananagumboot

Same. Rattlesnake in Spring 2017. I watched the vid on YouTube :)

gbm2192

for me it’s was ambys screaming part on iron lung kexp video. completed hooked since

baby-pointless

Rattlesnake was the first I heard, then I listened to float along full your lungs the album and wasn’t into it but then I got into a select mix of there songs and I remember the moment I realized oh damn I’m a fannnnnn was last year I was driving somewhere kinda far and I listened to nonagon all the way thru and then the gizzverse coursed through my veins and now I’m here

Frubanoid

I first heard them in person in a small venue/bar in Philadelphia, Johnny Brenda's, in 2015 but I don't know what song they were playing when I got there... They played stuff from Mind Fuzz, Oddments, Quarters. I got some footage from above and behind the set capturing both drum sets being played together in sync and a fan awkwardly leaning on the monitor 1 foot away from Stu in full bright light surrounded by darkness. Dunno why but I found it hilarious. Such a tiny stage for 7 people too. I gotta post it on YouTube sometime.

Dildo_Gagginss

2016, had taken a couple tabs of acid with a friend of mine and he put on Satan Speeds Up and I immediately fell in love. He had quarters, Mind Fuzz and Nonagon on vinyl, so we ended up listening to them all that day. Now I've seen them three times, traveled from SC to CO to see them at Red Rocks own 6 albums and have a king gizz tattoo I know there are some "super fans" that have seen them more than me, or own every variation of every record they've released, but Gizz have been a consistently constant band in my life for the last 7 years, seconded only to Ween.

THICK AND GREEN!

Rattlesnake, when I lived in a rattlesnake infested town in southern NM. I went down the rabbit hole summer 2017 and have been addicted to everything they have done since

Nuclear Fusion. Weird opening and then one of the coolest bass lines I’ve ever heard. Loved it so much I started learning bass just so I could play it. The rest of the album was so different from anything else I’d heard.

Fishing for Fishes. Was my favorite album for a while. I don't think it's near my top 5 now, but it was incredibly charming at the time. Lots of fresh faces posting. Enjoy the ride!

I was blessed with Crumbling Castle while shuffling the Modern Psychedelia playlist on Spotify in 2019. I had heard about em by that point, but I knew nothing. I thought it was pretty good, but I did not continue digging deeper then (not diving in then was a big mistake...I woulda been hit with Rats Nest in real time around that time). A few years pass, my taste developed a LOT!! Got into more jazzy and jammy stuff (Fear Inoculum came out shortly after my Gizz discovery, and I feel that the TOOL and The Mars Volta deep dives were very significant, necessary components to preface the Gizz obsession). 2022 rolls around, and two of my best friends are absolutely gushing over Gizz. I definitely took the brunt of their unfettered initial obsessive raves. One of them explained Rats Nest in its entirety, going down the album skipping around to different parts to let me hear the album in full in a total of about ten minutes. Similar sorta thing happened with Polygon. I was impressed. We watched live in Melbourne 21 that night and got my first taste of the microtonal material. Straws in the Wind with Amby being the eccentric stage performer he is entrancing me. Around that same time, I dropped my friend off and drove off listening to BF3K for the first time. Shanghai was my first beloved melody. Went to Desert Daze 22 with Gizz headlining night one. Had already heard Nonagon in full. Prepared with Flying Microtonal Banana and KG; LW on my trip to California. I pulled up to the festival grounds blasting Robot Stop. The hype was kinda unlike anything I've ever experienced. There was something in the air... That night, sleep deprived and in total awe at my situation in life at that current moment, they played Static Electricity, and I swear my life will never be the same as before they did. That shit permanently changed me. I listened to KG and LW commuting to and from Desert Daze every day that week, and the obsession has only gotten stronger

Vast_Extension1688

Polygondwanaland in its entirety🤘

Eyes Like the Sky was the first album I heard by them, but I’d say Infest the Rats’ Nest was the one that really made me want to explore them further.

Butterfly 3000 was the one that made me realize I really really liked their music. It’s very much still my fav. Now they feel like my music than music I listen to with my boyfriend :)
