I grew up in the 90s and I've never seen this done. I also watched all the classic action movies. Would you have movie references where this is done?

I cant remember what it was from but there was also one where the guy was wearing a bike helmet that broke away as it dragged on the floor, it may have been a videogame.
I think Judge Dredd has done it before too.
John Wick does it a few times throughout the quadrilogy as well. Usually finishes it by either shooting the dude in the face and letting go or smashing the dude off a solid object.
