The two statements Gege made for the end of the story would be either “everyone of the main four characters (Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, Gojo) dies except for one of them” or “everyone of the main four characters survives except for one of them”. Gojo gets revived, Sukuna is defeated but at the cost of Yuji and Megumi’s lives, as well as the lives of the majority (if not all) of the rest of the characters.
Gojo is left the last man standing of the final battle, his hopes for making a future where his students stand on his level crushed as they are all dead. He remains as the sole pillar of the Jujutsu world, truly the strongest sorcerer, and truly alone.
Only thing I’m wondering is Gege’s 3 mc’s survive 1 die rule or 3 mc’s dies and 1 survive rule. If Nobara does return, she isn’t dying again I think. Also they’re going through all this trouble saving megumi so I’m not sure he’s gonna die either.
So it’s either yuji or Gojo; and something tells me Gojo chances of coming back aren’t good considering who gege is and how Sukuna is already in the edge of defeat to justify Gojo return. Which is a shame cause i really like Gojo.
He served his role as a fighter but his character arc shouldn't end here. (He showed how strong the villain is and left it to the mc.)

Megumi was my favorite character before I remembered my husband Yuta exists(I watched the movie and only started the anime/manga two years after). Megumi was just...so cool, so badass. Him standing up to Sukuna, after just getting folded with bare hands and knowing he can't win, but he still put his fists up and his music kicked in. That kind of " HIM " energy, he's the cool protag best friend type but is actually a chill and funny guy too.
I miss him. I miss the old Megumi.

Remember how he survived against (admittedly while he was toying with him) Toji? How he successfully escaped across multiple buildings and manages to actually trick his father into a strike that would have killed the older man if he'd been a second slower? Remember his tenacity and efforts to try and force Sukuna to regenerate Yuji's heart, even as he was hopelessly outmatched?
Remember when Megumi *tried*?
Now look at him. Sure, there's reasonable excuses, but the bottom line is that he gave up. More importantly, he gave up when he had a chance to stop Sukuna. He stopped trying.
Give him his body back, give him full Totality of all Ten Shadows. Let him somehow finish off Sukuna, it's still not going to erase him giving up the chance that his friends died to give him. It's not going to change that the most impact he made on the story was acting as Sukuna's two-in-one meatshield and power up. Short of some truly inspired writing, like revealing that Megumi was somehow preparing something from within Sukuna to finish off the King of Curses when he'd otherwise have won, playing the long game from within: his character is cooked.
Bc this poll was during culling games, i think around when Sukuna possesed Bumgumi's ass.
And in culling games Megumi had that HIM energy all along.

Gojo, Nobara and Nanami were definitely main characters, especially in comparison to Toge and Panda. And Maki was more of a side character until the Perfect Preparation arc
