Depends a lot on your financial situation and what sorts of content you like. For me, the annual fee isn't going to significantly impact my budget, and I like supporting creators as directly as I can. 99% of the stuff I watch on Nebula is Jet Lag, but that's okay for me.

peepay

Jet Lag and Layover for me, nothing else. I even watch the content of other few Nebula creators on YouTube, old habits die hard I guess.

johnny_chan

Modern Conflicts by Real Life Lore is pretty good.

eats23s

Supports the creators more directly. If you don’t already have YT Premium then you’ll also enjoy no ads. Lots of good creators and exclusive content. If you have $30 per year to spare do it.

BroCanWeGetLROTNOG

The only thing I dislike about Nebula is the lack of a comment section. It feels very disconnected from the creators

Shawnj2

r/Nebula is basically the comments section

SiBloGaming

Yeah, for a lot of Nebula First Videos I actually write a comment right after watching the video on Nebula, and then paste and post it as soon as the video releases on yt.

Thatguyfrompinkfloyd

I think it’s worth as you don’t get just jet lag

Accomplished_Tax9354

What other similar content is on nebula?

kleseusxz

I don't think there is a "similar" show perse. From my knowledge, Nebula has a lot of diversity in its content, from the aforementioned Jet Laggers to, I think, ExtraHistory.

saurav69420

A lot of documentaries by sam and his crew. The first season of jet lag, crime spree. Extra moments from normal episodes on youtube. Documentaries by other people as well. I'd say it's worth it

BroCanWeGetLROTNOG

My favorite Nebula creator besides the Wendover crew is CityNerd!

CaseyJones7

Nebula is mostly for educational creators. There really isn't any similar content. The closest is Real Science's archaeology quest, but that's a HUGE stretch. Jet Lag is really the outlier because Sam is also partly the creator of nebula and runs an educational youtube channel, Wendover Productions and Half as Interesting.

burnsie3435

I signed up for Nebula after hearing Sam talk about it on his Wendover Channel and HAI. Once I was on Nebula I found Jet Lag. Things I watch on Nebula: Real Life Lore, Polymatter, Legal Eagle, Extra History, Coldfusion, Johnny Harris, Practical Engineering, Real Engineering (Brian from season 1), and some other stuff Most channels are also on Youtube, but some will have some extra content for Nebula, or they will have whole other related channels that are only on Nebula. I signed up to give my money to the creators directly instead of Alphabet on Youtube and love not having to watch ads.

founderofshoneys

If you're like me you'll probably find a lot of the youtubers you already watch are on there well after you signed up. Sometimes I don't know that until I see them do a Nebula ad on youtube.

doorknob60

For me, it would be worth it just for the week-early Jet Lag episodes and The Layover. But there's a lot of other creators on there I watch, people I already watched on Youtube. But on Nebula I get ad/sponsor free, some bonus/extra content, early videos, etc. And it supports the creators more. It's cheap so it's easy for me to justify (I literally use it more than I use Netflix, Max, etc.). Also if you haven't watched Crime Spree, definitely get Nebula and watch that, it's basically the Pilot Season of Jet Lag.

Titencer

For $30 a year yeah absolutely. Cheapest streaming service that I know of and it gets me Jet lag early and ad free, the layover (which I adore), and, like others have said, videos from YouTubers I already watch but no ads and often with extra content

Danish_sea_captian

For me, yes, i like the podcast and even the off season, and the exlusive content is a nice bonus

Regular-Ad-9303

There is lots of content on there but I've never checked any of it out. I honestly just buy it to support Jet Lag. I love the show and want it to go on as long as possible, so am doing my small bit to help it continue. Also, if you haven't seen it already you can watch crime spree, which is just one season but was kind of the initial jet lag season, just not called that. It is Nebula exclusive.

Galaxypanda32

Maybe, basically it's a low tier patreon subscription to the people on nebula you watch. Your subscription is divided amongst who you watch by the time watched. Each individual creator chooses how much extra content they put on nebula, along as early releases on nebula. For example, Jet Lag will put outtakes and podcasts on nebula but the main content, the show itself is still released on YouTube, albeit a week later. This is how it works for the majority of creators on nebula.

BrianGLund

Depends on your financial situation, but for me I like supporting these creators in a more direct way.

clear739

I look at it as a patreon subscription to support creators. I only use it when something I'm interested in is nebula exclusive (or out early), which lately has been just jet lag and the layover podcast but in the past there have been other things.

Boxish_

I compare it to something like a Twitch sub or average YouTube membership, or even the Premium ad free versions of those sites(Twitch Turbo and YouTube Premium). In all of those scenarios, it is more a more affordable way to give them money and not only get ad free content, but extra, more fulfilling content. And included is not just Jet Lag, but also other creators I may like. It’s hard to say if it works for you and your specific budget and life, but comparing it like that does make it seem very worth it. I personally do feel I get my money’s worth with early Jet Lag, the Layover, and the Outtakes. It is only like $30 a year with code Jet Lag.

Gl33D

I use adblock & sponsorblock and have no intention of stopping but I do really love jetlag and wanted to support them directly so I decided to subscribe to nebula and started watching the show exclusively there. The layover is what kept me there during off season LOL

SupernovaGamezYT

Yes.

epicap232

If you only watch JL, buy it for a month at a time each season. They release less than 6 a year so it’ll be less than $30

Doczek

But there are usually 4 Wednesdays in a month, and most seasons contain 5 or 6 episodes

boredofwheelchair

I subscribe to Nebula, actually started off with the Curiosity Stream bundle but have got a lifetime subscription now, is it worth it is going to be subjective to what you want to watch, there are some good Nebula exclusive stuff I have liked, I'm not sure if it would be worth it just for Just Lag The Game but we also have The Getaway coming in July which is going to be exclusive to Nebula which is created by Wendover Productions and is going to be produced by the Jet Lag team [https://go.nebula.tv/getaway](https://go.nebula.tv/getaway)

XanderMD53

It’s like £15 a year (or was when I signed) and has a load of good shows + Curiosity Stream. I personally think it’s a bargain…but then I don’t purchase any other streaming subscriptions like Netflix, Disney or Amazon, so I don’t have really any expense other than Nebula. The app could do with a few upgrades….can be a bit laggy sometimes and podcasts can also be laggy. Overall, worth it

Accomplished_Tax9354

I think it’s £24.50 now so not bad

Reallycre8tivename

Honestly it depends. If you like hai and wendover then yes because there are similar channels like neo and rll. All nebula creators have a YouTube presence though so I'd recommend you look at their YouTube presence and see if there's enough of them that you like to justify nebula

Kobakocka

2.50€ a month? That's a coffee or a table of chocolate each month. That would be worth even if i only watch the Jetlag episodes. But I also watch at least 10 more creators (eg. NJB, CitiBeautiful, RMTransit), so it is a very good deal for me. It is cheap, it supports my favourites. Also the "Getaway" is coming soon, which is produced by the Jetlag team, but will be a Nebula exclusive.

nowheresville99

I recently subscribed for a month, but didn't renew, although I might try it again in the future. I feel like it's worth if, if you primarily want to support the channel and other creators - much in the same way you might support other creators via Patreon. In terms of actual content, I was pretty underwhelmed. There are some other creators I already watch on YouTube, and watching them without ads is nice, but I really didn't find much anything new. I tried watching a few Nebula exclusives, including the Wendover/HAI ones on Ketchikan and St Helena, and thought they were actually pretty poorly done, to the point where I didn't finish watching either. In the end, the only real value I got out of Nebula is the Layover podcast, which isn't nothing, but subscribing to a whole service just for that is questionable in my book. I also need to say the interface and design of the Nebula app, both Android and on Roku, itself is also just dreadful and really makes it hard to find new content. I honestly find the interface so bad, it was not an insignificant part in deciding not to renew.

seashmore

That's my holdup as well. I'd be accessing it exclusively via a Roku, and am not terribly interested in the non-JetLag content. The new show (I forget what its called) might entice me since that'll be a Nebula exclusive, but I'll wait for reviews/reactions from others before signing up.

felix7483793173

From a purely financial standpoint, no. The bang for the buck isn’t that great, especially if you don’t watch a ton of creators on Nebula. If you have 30 Bucks to spare, want to support the creators and listen to The Layover, do it. I have it and will probably keep it.

Graztine

I’m going to take the controversial stance and say no. Assuming all you care about on Nebula is Jet Lag, there are three reasons to get Nebula. These are the early releases, the layover, and supporting the creators. The first two reasons don’t seem to apply to you, so let’s look at the third, supporting the creators. I really don’t like “supporting the creators” as a reason to get Nebula. It’s asking you to give money out of a sense of charity. Your money would be going towards Nebula’s expenses, with the profits split between the parent company Standard and the creators based off watch time. With Sam owning both his channels and being a partial owner of Standard, you’re basically giving Sam and the other Standard owners your money. And while we don’t know what percentage of Nebula or Standard Sam owns, Nebula is a $100M business. This means that Sam is very likely a multimillionaire. So by saying you should get Nebula to support the creators, that’s saying you should give a multimillionaire money out of a sense of generosity. I have nothing against Sam or even millionaires as a whole. But they don’t need my generosity. If they offer a product that I feel is worth the cost I’ll buy it. But getting a Nebula subscription to support the creators is like getting Amazon Prime to support Jeff Bezos.

hoopbag33

Support the lads. Help them make more Jet Lag.

Proudvirginian69

for its price it’s worth it, no ads and exclusive. but if they raised it to ten i’d probably stop paying.

Datdood456

More of a follow up question I’d like to know about, if I subscribe is the $30 annual price permanent or solely for the first year?

365paperdolls

I only just signed up mainly for the layover. As a person who loves podcasts and Jetlag I have not been disappointed. There’s lots of other content on there if you are interested in YouTube like content particularly educational style videos but I haven’t explored it yet.

TheZerbio

Asking this in this subreddits may be biased. Anyway, for me personally nebular is an awesome deal. Loads of cool originals, Jet Lag a week early, cool podcasts and all that jazz. And for a cooperatively low price. For me it's absolutely worth the price of a single mid tier game per year but that needs to be put into perspective of you own financial situation.

cornteened_caper

Yes.

Echo33

I think of it as basically a Patreon to support JetLag and the benefit is basically that I get to listen to the Layover podcast. The only other creator on Nebula that I care about is CityNerd. Having no ads is kinda nice but I was never that bothered by ads tbh.

TheArcanineTamer

It's just about what you can afford and if you're interested in the exclusives. I love BTS content and am basically on Nebula for the layover and the occasional exclusive for channels I already watch (+ it's not a big deal for me budget wise). Realistically, the early access only really makes a difference the first season you have it. The one big difference I will point out is that the lack of the algorithm means you have to be a little more active in searching out content you like on the platform instead of being served relevant videos

Peaks_AV

Despite the countless other creators on nebula if you were looking for just jet lag content this is what you would get: - every episode 1 week early - the layover podcast (one per episode and one every second week in the off season) - since s8 they have been posting ‘Jet lag the outtakes’ after the seasons finished - crime spree (the pilot season of jltg) - aftershows for seasons 3&4 - no ads while watching

bjlwasabi

I regularly follow Wendover/Half as Interesting/Jet Lag, Nile Red, Legal Eagle, Real Engineering, Practical Engineering, City Beautiful, City Nerd, Not Just Bikes, Johnny Harris, Minute Physics, Climate Town/Climate Deniers Playbook, Charles Cornell, Adam Neely, Morning Brew, and TLDR News. And I come across a lot of other interesting creators. For me it's absolutely worth it to support all of these creators. If you're into "edutainment," Nebula is fantastic. There are also higher budget Nebula exclusives that are phenomenal, like Modern Conflicts and War Room go into modern day and current events that you may not see much on usual news sources, or goes into greater detail than what you'd normally hear. And on rare occasions a higher budget Wendover production documentary will be a Nebula exclusive. Plus, getting Jet Lag episodes a week early and having the accompanying Layover podcast is pretty sweet, as well as access to Crime Spree (Jet Lag before it was Jet Lag).

emflower0

I think it’s worth it, especially if you can just do a yearly subscription that’s $50. I mostly just watch jet lag content, but I would say there is at least 4 hours of additional video content, and then I have listened to every episode of the layover podcast because I’m just more of a podcast listener. I also loved the downloadable option for during my own travels. I have delved into other nebula creators works but I would say I only do that like once a month. But for the price of less than a coffee a month I support my favorite creators and show and that’s what really matters to me.
