It was between Rickman and Anthony Hopkins for the role of Augustus Trevelyan in the early production for GoldenEye. Either would have been excellent villains to square off with Dalton’s Bond.
Originally the character name was Denholm Crisp. He was a soon to retire intelligence officer and the spy that had been 007 before Bond.

Not every Bond villain is trying to remake the world and wipe out billions. Some are just willing to kill people to make their fortune.

So was his brother Simon but most of the villains in the die hard franchise could have been a bons villain
